All Kelly Winters wanted was a quiet, simple life in the small coastal town of Haven, and for a time she got that until dead bodies began piling up and she discovered she was a witch. Now it’s all magic and mayhem.
Fortunately, Kelly’s isn't alone, and she’s on the fast track to mastering these spells.
So when a YouTube convention set to take place in Haven is ruined when one of the main speakers is mysteriously found murdered, and police have her brother pinned as the primary suspect, she has no other choice than to investigate.
But dark forces are at work, the clocks ticking and not everyone is telling the truth. Now Kelly must expose the killer and unravel the secrets before the darkness takes hold.
This time the battle is personal, and she won't back down.
I enjoy this series. It is a little cute, a little fun and the characters are great. I also enjoy the narrator. Kelly Winters is learning more about her magic and helping along the way. Great book! *This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.*
I wanted to like this. The premise is interesting to be sure. But the writing is jumbled and needs a lot of editing, and the mystery solving just wasn't well written, imo. She barely seems to do any investigating and then suddenly the plot is solved.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
This book starts a few weeks after book one and you probably need to read that one first so I'm going to assume that you have read it.
I wasn't a fan of how the book ended, I thought there were other equally convincing ways to prove who committed the murder and Kelly created unnecessary problems herself going forward.
That said, the book was fun, it's a good combination of cozy mystery and romance and I'm looking forward to seeing how things develop romantically for Kelly.
I liked getting to know a bit more about some of the towns residents.
The narration was well done again, good character voices and delivery.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
This one is a little bit better than the first one, but still many of the same problems exist. The characters and plot are fun, but this author needs an editor. The grammar is bad and often the leaps between scenes are awkward. Also, the overall premise is overdone and some of the characters and plot are cliched. I enjoyed them because I didn't pay for them - got them through Kindle unlimited. If I had paid money, though, I would have been really annoyed (and not read the second one). Probably not going to read anymore.
My review is based on the Audiobook. Book 2 continues Kelly's journey into coming into her powers and finding out who she is. I enjoy reading about the townspeople of Haven and all of the crazy unusual happenings there. The author has done a great job at world building in this series. The clues to the mystery were paced out perfectly so I was guessing until the end. The narrator does a fabulous job bringing the story and characters to life. Her distinct and easy to understand voices make this a great listen! I look forward to more in this series.
Terrific. When a fellow YouTuber is murdered, her brother is pulled in as the main suspect. Can she find out who had the means to kill the young girl and why? A great plot that uses CCTV as the main witness to what actually happened even though the murder was witnessed by millions of viewers? Great use of red herrings all smoothly merged with her trying to find out more information about her mother and family whilst still solving this most recent case. Wonderful use of the characters and an indents view of the workings of YouTube. A great read.
I enjoyed being transported back to Haven and getting to know Kelly and the other characters. It's a light and cozy with a touch of magic, murder and a little romance. Kelly has another reason to solve the next mysterious murder in the quaint town of Haven, it's not bad enough there is a curse, but now her brother is the number 1 suspect. Kelly will need a little magic and a lot of detective skills to solve this one. Can't wait for book 3
Just enough magic and mystery to keep you entertained. The main character is a balanced person, which I really appreciate. Not narcissistic or quivering or whining person. I look forward to the further development of the rest of the town folk in I hope to be subsiguiente books. They definitely all seem to have secrets. As Always a little side dish of romantic possibilities is a plus.
Yes I updated my review on book 1 from 4 to 5 stars on book 2. The characters are clearer, the plots more in focus and although I still figured out "who done it" was more of a mystery and opening into a much more witch story. I think this series will be an enjoyable light reading and as the mixture of characters progression you will be hooked. I will watch for the next one now.
So I really enjoy reading this story through Kelly's perspective and her solving mysteries while learning about her mom. The other characters don't play a whole lot into the book, they are pretty surface level. So while I would like more interaction with the others, I definitely like those series.
A good witchy whodunnit. When a death occurs and Kellys brother is blamed, she has to figure out who killed the girl. This goes against her aunt and the town.I am hoping there is a book 3!Natalie Naudus was the perfect narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
While I still wish the characters had been better developed, I did enjoy the story. I do hope for more though. As written, I don't care about the characters. I miss that.
I liked the book. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I wish she had solved it without telling the police about the cameras. Also I enjoy the build up but I want it just a little faster!
A most enjoyable novel. Emma Watts needs to continue writing these books. I certainly had fun reading it. This book was a pleasant change from reading the nonfiction types of books I usually read. Thanks Ms Watts.
It was good it took me a little bit longer to read. It seemed to drag a little at the beginning, although it did pick up towards the middle. Nice twist with house also.
I like the main character is very down to earth and not " poor me stuck with magic" whiny. I am really enjoying this series and can not wait for the next one
Kelly and Jamie have hilarious and magical times in Northern California. There are so many mysteries in town! Love the characters! This is interesting and suspenseful at the same time! Good read!
The second story in the Haven Witches story dives deeper into the magic that surrounds Haven. Like the first novel I enjoyed it as an escape, but kept being pulled out of the story by the random magical instances without much continuity.
I am really enjoying this series, I love murder mysteries but also witch books so a great combination. The heroine is believable and it is easy reading. A must read enjoy.
