The Hidden

Rate this book
The Hidden is a chilling literary thriller set in the outback of Australia. Reminiscent of Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca, Deliverance and Wake in Fright, it follows the story of photographer Caroline Savage as she's preparing for a London exhibition of her Australian photographs, taken 20 years before. She is plunged back into the nightmare that happened all those years before, when she and her new husband have gone to stay on his country property set in rugged bushland outside the little town of Rock Forest. There, amid the harsh alien landscape and hostile township she finds herself increasingly drawn towards the wildness of the bush as a way of escaping from the strange behaviour of her husband. Searching for reasons for his actions, she stumbles upon a horrifying truth, with terrifying consequences for her - as she finds herself in a fight for her life.'A delicious mystery that visits not only a menacing and wild Australian landscape, but the ravaged emotional landscape. The plot itself is dramatic, but a finely-wrought emotional narrative curves its way around it beautifully.' The Age.
