Curtain Call #1

Showtime Rendezvous

Rate this book
Devon eyed me with a rueful smile. "If I didn't know any better I'd say you were doing the ol' spill wine on my shirt so I'd have to take it off trick."

The last place Kristin wanted to land her first accounting job was a theater.
The last person she expected to see there was her first heartbreak, Devon Dashner.

A gallon of hair dye and a decade of practicality are enough to disguise her identity, but Devon’s boyish personality and constantly shirtless body has Kristin wanting to work his payroll between the spreadsheets all over again.

Torn between rejection and her desire to avoid living out of a cardboard box, Kristin sets out to do her job and keep her identity, and her libido quiet. Except there's a problem. In a theater filled with costume parties, lavish libations, and the occasional unwitting voyeurism, keeping her secret won’t be easy.

I live in Colorado and love nothing more than walking my dog on a chilly day, writing a good story and irritating the neighbor's noisy cat. When I'm not loitering around a firefighter's workout room for inspiration, you can find me hard at work, editing manuscripts, consulting other authors and writing steamy scenes to heat up my latest book. I would describe myself an adventurous hermit with a with a unicorn's soul who enjoys spicy sesame chicken and smooth scotch. Nothing can shake my zeal for life and all its crazy experiences; not even a friendly, feline nemesis wailing out his revenge beneath my bedroom window.

I received SHOWTIME RENDEZVOUS as a gift and this quick read delivered!

Imagine falling in love after high school, taking the relationship to the next level with a night of passion, and having your first-love leave town without an explanation. Nearly a decade later, imagine you get a job at a historical theater to clean up the company’s accounting paperwork and you find him there—a performer who is sexy as ever—only he no longer recognizes the new you or your proper name!

Such is the predicament of accountant Kristin Hughes when she runs into Devon Dasher at the Plaisir De Rouge!

Will Devon figure out she’s the girl he left behind? Will Kristin learn why he left her in the dust? And will their once-steamy passion begin to boil again?

Quick, fun, and steamy! I gave SHOWTIME RENDEZVOUS five stars and look forward to reading the next installment: STAGE BOUND!

A friend recommended I read something light and entertaining in between all those thrillers and dark mysteries I've focused on lately. Showtime Rendezvous fit the bill just fine. This sexy romance with an excellent story line, an interesting main character, and a few quirky secondary characters, is a fun novella with no shortage of sex and even a well-drawn voyeurism incident that might be more titillating than the regular sex scenes. The author did a good job with the main character's occupation, too. It's not that easy to make accounting a fascinating job, but Wiles does it when she sends her main character to a theater run by an aging owner who files her financial records in big black trash bags.

I believe C.K. Wiles has a second novella published already. Something for me to sample after the next round of grim crime fiction.

I received this book as a gift ... one of the best gifts ever. It was a relatively quick read and a titillating page turner. After reading it, I’ll never think of the theater the same. Very vivid scenes and lots of romance with just the right dose of intrigue make this book a great way to escape into the world of romance delayed and yet fulfilled to nth degree. Can’t wait to read the next one!

C.K. Wiles first novella is a fun and heartfelt glimpse into the backstage of classic show biz. C.K. offers quirky and loveable characters in a setting that is lush and immersive. The interactions between characters is playful and steamy and the author's sense of humor had me giggling throughout the whole book. I look forward to her next novel!

Overall this book is sensational (in a good way). I like the made-up words "spandexing" and "chastitying", as well as how a secret hideout becomes central to the story. No spoilers!

It's interesting to read this quite soon after I finished a similar romance novel ("European Tour", L.V. Lewis, between a rock star and a pop princess). Two concerns: the protagonist's male lover could have been hinted at earlier because it's a bit unexpected to find the romantic element at around 21% of a romantic comedy; and the comic relief embodied by the grandmother figure might have a closer tie to to the central romance, though I felt that wasn't explored deeply enough. On the flip side, though, the book is light-hearted and funny, and the tone of the book, especially after the introduction of the protagonist's male lover, is its greatest strength.
