The door which leads to the magical town of Brimstone has gone. Despite its absence, Cassia and her gran find a way into the town using another door.
They are met in Brimstone by the Grim Reaper who tells them of a curse which was cast hundreds of years ago by their ancestor, Gertrude Winter. He explains that if a murder dating back twenty-three years isn’t solved immediately, Cassia and her gran will no longer be witches. Not only that, the residents of Brimstone will forget they ever existed.
Gran makes a deal with the Grim Reaper and he gives them more time to solve the mystery. All Cassia has to do is to work out who was murdered, where the deceased body is now, and who did it – all within twenty-four hours. Luckily, she has her cat, Stanley, at her side to help her with this seemingly impossible task.
As they get deeper into their investigation, Cassia and Stanley learn about another deal which the Grim Reaper made – which changes everything.

April Fernsby lives in the north of England in a county called Yorkshire. Yorkshire has its fair share of hauntings and supernatural events, including a witch called Mary Bateman, aka The Yorkshire Witch, whose skeleton now hangs in a local museum.
April loves all things supernatural and mysterious. Her favourite book as a child was ‘The Faraway Tree’ as it took the reader into a different world where unusual creatures lived. April looked for a similar tree near her house but never found it.
Her Brimstone Witch series involves the main character, Cassia Winter, going through a cellar door and into another world where magical creatures live, and mysteries abound.
A Deal With The Grim Reaper (A Brimstone Witch Mystery Book 10) by April Fernsby is a great addition to the series. I really enjoyed this book. The justice witch has to solve the murder or everyone in Brimstone will forget her and her grandmother. She has 24 hours and the murder is 23 years old! It is one of my favorite so far! A real twist when she finds out too!
kindle unlimited but got it on a freebie day, better than good because had missed #9 on freebie day, so now have them all but 9 singly and all three box sets AND the feebie day 1.5 as I call it {the Lepreuchan one mentioned at bottom} AND #10 today. NOTE: the 3 sets START with #2 book, might try to find time to re-read them, there is something 'off' so only a 4 but want to pinpoint reason.

As our story opens we find that the Winter women are under a curse placed upon them by their ancestor Gertrude Winter (founding witch of Brimstone). This curse stated that if any of her descendents didn't solve all murders before their 30th birthday they would loose their witch powers. Andy (the Grimm reaper) informs Esther and her granddaughter Cassia (the current Justice Witch of Brimstone) that the curse has taken effect and they have 24hrs to solve a 23yr old murder. I received an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
A good read but not one of my favourite ones in the series. A wall prevents her and Granny from entering brimstone. An ancient curse has come into effect. She has 24 hours to solve a crime that has been forgotten for 23 years. Can she and her cat do so especially as with every minute that ticks by she looses a bit more of her magic? Even if she does, is that the only unsolved crime? The race is on with not only magic, the fate of Brimstone but also of her Gran at stake (as she made a deal with the Grimm Reaper so that she could pass her magic to Cassia). Not a plot that I enjoyed and the characters seemed slightly out of phase to normal.
This is a wonderful story. Other stories of the Reaper don't show him from a spot of levity. This story shows 2 witches and a murder curse. With the Reaper helping, can the witches solve a murder that is more than a decade old in 24 hours? Well, if they don't, they won't be witches anymore. So, with the help of the townsfolk and their special familiars, they go to it. What ensues is a hilarious blend of mix ups in this Who-done-it. Can't wait to read the next one!
I really enjoyed reading this book. This time, everyone's favorite justice witch faces a curse that will wipe the memory of her from existence. The story takes place over a twenty-four hour period. There is lots of action that leaves you at the edge of your seat. Will she, or won't she? Either way, it's still a great read. Like the series, this one is absolutely worth reading.
Two good books in a row. This was amazing. I loved this one too. The time limit, the "forgotten" murder, Rosalyn's fate, Luca, the butterflies... Just everything was incredible. I have no words to describe how much I loved this one. A couple of things didn't really make sense but they served the purpose, like the transportation methods, but besides that, this was an extraordinary magical cozy mystery.
I have enjoyed all of the Brimstone Witch books, but this was the best one ever. Cassia and Gran fell under a curse from one of their ancestors and were in danger of losing their powers and having to leave Brimstone. Cassia's struggles to break the curse kept me sitting on the edge of my chair.
I liked the story line. April added some interest in twists. Over the life of the series this reader has gotten to know the characters and has seen them grow and change. They are occasionally not quite believable, but still enjoyable. This book was a bit different because of the revelations near the end. Please read and enjoy.
A big mystery, a centuries old curse, a little of a live story. And another adventure with Cassia, and Stanley. Our friends are knee deep in this adventure. Loved it
What a trip! Curses, a grim reaper, and mysterious murders are no match for justice witch and her fiercely loyal feline. I loved every bit of it and my mind is still reeling the revelations of this latest case.
This series by Ms Fernsby is one of the best written series I have read and will continue to read! She really draws out the five senses. Thank you. EVERYONE please read her writings you won’t be sorry!
This book has every element of a mystery. curses, grim reaper, Witches, and some romance. Talking cats, beautiful butterflies, and of course, murder. Enjoyable reading
Missing dwarf, missing necklace, forgotten century old curses, makes for a great mystery. And murder of course. If you have not read anything from this Author start with book 1 in the series. Makes for better read.
Cute little YA story. Liked the time deadline aspect to getting secrets discovered and solving crimes. So many lies and omission of facts, you would think she could have imagined that problem from occurring. It certainly wasted a lot of time.
book 10 another great cozy mystery of who did it to who? and who else? and what else?? here's to hoping there are lots more mysteries in brimstone bay..
Shocking trouble in Brimstone! Could this be the end of Cassia and Stanley? An unsolved murder must be figured out in record time. All will be revealed!
Cassia is losing her powers. If she doesn't solve a murder mystery before 24 hours are up she'll lose her powers, be forgotten and have to leave Brimstone!
