It was focused more on the beauty of Iceland rather than the storyline and plot of the series. I did appreciate that we got to see more of the relationship between Kei and his grandfather and see the love of Iceland they both share, but I was continuously wanting to return to the mystery and intrigue of the last volume, of seeing the magic that the family possesses.

3 out of 5 stars

This volume was a weird follow up to the last one. We went from the main character beginning to learn bad things about his little brother and using his ability to speak to technology to solve little mystery’s for people, to a beautiful, informative tourist advertisement for Iceland. A step in the plot line must have been skipped because one second Miyama’s creepy brother was coming to stay with his grandfather and him, and the next, he’s been kicked out and Miyama’s friend Kiyoshi comes to visit. His brother is only shown breaking some farmers fences in order to let sheep loose. A dick thing to do, but I don’t know why he’s doing it.

I will still probably read the next volume, but I have no idea where the story is going now. Although, the art is still gorgeous and I really want to go to Iceland now.

The abrupt change in the pacing and storyline direction did feel a bit jarring in the first chapter of this volume. Like, what happened with Micchi? Also, distracting Kei is as easy as offering him meat? Didn't realize manipulating a person's emotions was that simple.

Even more so than volume 1, this volume is a lush guide to Iceland. I've researched enough travel guides and videos to know the sites that are shown in this manga, but the descriptions and the commentary described by the manga (through Kei and Jacques) has me yearning to visit this country asap. Kiyoshi is also an adorable, enthusiastic addition to the cast-- definitely a foil to Kei's moody and loping grace. There's really something about Kei that throws me back to manga characters of mid- to late-90s manga. It's the eyes, the long legs, the attitude. I'm so glad that I discovered this manga; it's quickly risen to my favorites list with only two volumes read.

E a me piace; mi piace l’infodump su placche terrestri, correnti, vegetazione e sorgenti termali.
I disegni sempre meravigliosi.

Gorgeous artwork, as usual. An educational volume, no cases to solve this time. ;P
Only a cameo for the ML's creepy brother in this volume.

Bukan berarti saya gak suka sih....
Betul apa kata banyak reviewer lain, bahwa jilid 02 ini udah kayak "Iceland Guidebook manga version" lolol~ Habisnyaaaa, hampir seisi jilid 02 ini menceritakan Abang Kei mengantar teman jepangnya keliling Islandia. Bukan berarti saya gak suka sih [2]

Oke, penjelasan tentang Islandia memang (sangaaaat) menyenangkan.

Last but not least, saya lumayan suka sama tokoh Kiyoshi, teman kecil Kei yang datang berkunjung ke Islandia dari Jepang. Kehadiran Kiyoshi menambahkan bumbu-bumbu bromance yang sangat kuat. Hum, hum. Saya suka.

I am falling more and more for this wondrous tale. Irie takes us on a journey through Iceland. In the previous volume we got to meet with Kei's younger brother, who came to Iceland after an incident in Japan that is shrouded in mystery. However, in this volume he hardly makes an appearance. Here, Kei is visited by his close friend Kiyoshi who came all the way from Japan, and together they go on a tour and discover the island, where not only Kiyoshi learns alot but we as a reader too. Irie manages to capture the beauty of the landscapes in magical fashion, and creates the feeling of wanderlust. Not only once did I give in to my longing for the distance. To go out to explore and discover, to go on an adventure, to make memories and share these with a friend, with someone you love. So much so that I was sometimes close to tears. What a truly wonderful thought! We also learn a little more about Kei and how his friendship with Kiyoshi came to happen, in form of a brief flashback.

While there is a lack of transition between the first and second volume regarding the the cryptic circumstances revolving around Kei's younger brother (it's really weird!), this volume offers overall a lovely proceeding of the story. I am excited to see how it further unfolds from here on out, and what mysteries there are to uncover.

New character and it's getting better 💖🥹

I thought Kei Miyama doesn't have friends 😂🤚🏼Guess I was wrong and thanks to Kiyoshi, I got to see the scenic view and all the fun facts about Iceland ❤️ From the geyser, rifts, hot spring, and mineral water? Oh my! I wish to go to Iceland this instant!

The other things that I love are:

I got to see the backstory of how Kei and Kiyoshi met. It was not a fun intro. I can see now why they're inseparable and got each other 😭🙌🏼

Then, the bickering moment between Kei and his gramps, Jacques got me choked all the time 🤣 They always fight about petty stuff. It's kinda fun to see their development in this manga. But how are Lilja and Kei? I'm wheezing! They're not grumpy x sunshine, more like both are grumpy to the max 😂

All the chapter inside this volume is so chef's kiss. Despite the motive of this manga should be towards Kei's mystery power and Michii's (his younger brother) sudden behavior, I think this volume is cool as we can see the different side of Kei ❤️

Couldn't wait to continue this series 💃🏼

this volume is so weird because there's a plot that develops at the end of vol 1, that this book starts by saying "naaaahhh actually we just want to tour Iceland" and does just that. on the plus side, I really like Kiyoshi as a character and his friendship with Kei makes Kei significantly more interesting. on the negative side, is that plot going to come back lol? well, I am not against having more ICELAND FACTS delivered to me in the form of a manga. (geothermal... stuff! tectonic plates!!! sheep!!!!)

in comparison to volume 1 this book only had 1.5 boobs so that's an improvement for me personally (I just don't see the merit of mixing in boobs with my Iceland Facts, y'know).

I am sad that Kiyoshi may not continue being a presence, I enjoy him and his soft belly (though did I need Kei commenting about his weight? no. I remember anti-fatness being a running theme in Ran and the Gray World... Kiyoshi is not even fat, he's just not ridiculously skinny/beautiful like most Aki Irie characters).

bye

The reader might be well forgiven in thinking they must have skipped a volume, as vol 2 doesn't continue on with the mystery hinted at the end of vol 1 but instead goes off on a merry tangent and instead turns into an Icelandic travel guide. But that is bad, but in a way, it felt as if this volume was sponsored by Iceland's Board of Tourism or was a way for Aki Irie to display much of what she learned during her trip to Iceland.

As much as learning about the lore and locations of Iceland were interesting, I'm still left hanging on some of the things hinted at in the previous volume. Like, what's up with his Kei's brother? Is there anything more about Kei's abilities? And what language they're all speaking. (Japanese? Icelandic? Both?)

Maybe some will be revealed in the next volume. But overall, a skippable volume, but still interesting in the few parts that flesh out Kei's past.

2.5/5

This volume reads as a travel promo to Iceland. And uh, yeah it kinda worked. Lol.

The shift in tone was a bit confusing with how things left off with the psycho little brother. I did enjoy the new character being introduced, but any semblance of a plot was completely nixed. We got some back story, Kei is rounded out a bit better. And then promptly takes two steps back with how he acts around Lilja. I'm sorry but I'm so over male leads acting douchey around girls they're attracted to. It's boring.

I hope he'll grow out of it but I won't hold my breath. I like Kei best when he's doing his own thing, and I like the chill travel vibe - which is enough to keep my interest piqued.

Beautifully drawn, but what a strange follow-up to last time. The hot springs issue is supposed to be the last one in a series! What became of the cop hunting for Kei’s brother Michitaka? So odd, but what did I say about Aki Irie’s work, it’s dreamlike, so prone to peculiar detours. This did make for an interesting tour of parts of Iceland, but by the time I got to the end of the exposition it felt like... it’s a great place to visit, but don’t show up or you’ll crush our grass! Hehe! We will have to see where the next volume takes us, but Vertical, what happened to our full-colored intro pages?!?

Person 1: Aki Irie enchants me with her drawing skills, I have learned so much about Island in the second part, that i want to go there one day too. Can't wait to read part3!!

The mystery about Kei's brother that gets set up in the first volume is completely put on hold for this volume. I guess not every reader will be happy about that and I found it a weird choice of pacing as well. However, I still really liked this volume. Kei gets a visit from his best friend Kiyoshi and what follows is pretty much a travel guide through Iceland in manga form. Not much else happens beside sightseeing and getting to know the nature and culture of the country, but it's so enjoyable and the art really emphasises the beautiful landscapes.
