Can this rebel dragon learn to play by the rules when his destined mate’s life is at stake?
Off to Maui for a relaxing vacation? Surfer Jenna Monroe can only wish. Instead, she’s on the run from a stalker who lusts after her blood. She’d rather comb the beach for lost treasures than venture any deeper into the terrifying world of shapeshifters. There, even the good guys are hard to trust — except for the hot-blooded rebel she can’t get out of her head.
Connor Hoving and his band of Special Forces shifters were planning to leave trouble behind by moving to Maui, but destiny has other ideas. His whole future — and that of his brothers — depends on acing his new job as head of security at an exclusive seaside estate. But Connor can barely get his inner dragon to focus with alluring, off-limits Jenna around. Can this rebel dragon learn to play by the rules when his fated mate’s life is at stake?
The closer Connor and Jenna become, the higher forbidden passions blaze. The more they give in to simmering desire, the more impossible love seems. And the more secrets they uncover, the closer their enemies creep. Vampires and ruthless dragons lurk in the shadows, and it’s impossible to tell whose side fate will take. Only one thing is certain: great heroes don’t get to pick their destinies — only the choices they make.
Maui just got hotter with this exciting new series of steamy, suspenseful paranormal romance! ALOHA SHIFTERS: PEARLS OF DESIRE is a series of sizzling paranormal romances with adult content. This series spins off from Aloha Shifters: Jewels of the Heart. It’s fun to read each series in order, but any of the books can be read as standalone title in its own right. Just be warned: hot alpha shifters, ruthless enemies, and unveiled desires ahead!
No cliff hangers. Each story is a page-turner packed with action, emotion, and romance! If you like Magnum, PI and smoldering hot, alpha shapeshifters, you'll love these books! Each includes strong heroines, alpha heroes, werewolves and shapeshifters, billionaires, military romance, paranormal suspense, action-adventure romance, fantasy romance, and exotic, tropical locales!
USA Today and Amazon best-selling author Anna Lowe loves putting the "hero" back into heroine and letting location ignite a passionate romance. She likes a heroine who is independent, intelligent, and imperfect — a woman who's doing just fine on her own. But give the heroine a good man (not to mention a chance to overcome her own inhibitions) and she'll never turn down the chance for adventure, nor shy away from danger.
On any given weekend, you might find her hiking in the mountains or hunched over her laptop, working on her latest story. Either way, the day will end with a chunk of dark chocolate and a good read.
Aloha Shifters: Pearls of Desire is a spin-off from Anna Lowe’s Aloha Shifters Jewels of the Heart series. You don’t have to have read the other before starting this one, but we do see previous characters and are right next door to the guys from Jewels of the Heart ^_^.
Rebel Dragon is the first book and it sets the tone for a wonderful story.
We meet Jenna who is the sister to Jody - Lure of the Tiger. Jenna is going to Maui to get away from a stocker. She is treated like the little kid sister, which she is, but we see her come out of the kid sister area and show that she is a strong women who can make chooses for herself and protect those she loves. We also get to meet Connor who’s trying to find a place for himself and his brothers. He’s also kinda a hothead, but wants to change. He and his brothers need this chance and don’t want to mess up what they could have on Maui. Besides that we meet several of the other cast and a sweet little boy. I have to say it’s going to be fun learning about these new characters and seeing what Destiny has in store for them.
Jenna and Connor fit. They make a great couple and you can see the romance bloom. Both find what they needed a place to belong, a home, a mate, and a clan.
We also get a unique story about the Pearls of Desire. I’m very curious to learn more. I liked the story and uniqueness of it all.
Rebel Dragon is a sizzling romance, filled with a rich story, action, adventure, paranormal suspense, and more. I can’t wait to get my hands on Rebel Bear.
Rebel Dragon Aloha Shifters: Pearls of Desire Book 1 by Anna Lowe ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ OMG! This story is so worth waiting for, you couldn't ask for any thing better than the spin off of Aloha Shifters Jewels of the Heart series. The first book in Aloha Shifters Pearls of Desire, just rocked my world and blew any of my expectations out of the water. 😁 As the first book Rebel Dragon certainly sets the tone which you can't help but to enjoy. The hot and steamy sexy scenes builds from the slow tension between Connor and Jenna. Although there is a few twists in the story, there is also however quite surprise in store for you. What a fantastic story where you are thrust from the beginning into the action and it never really lets up to the end. It starts with Jenna Monroe need for help and can Connor Hoving a rebel dragon who is just starting at his new job learn to play by the rules. Along with his band of Special Forces shifters they intend to leave the trouble behind by moving to Maui. This is a great steamy, suspenseful paranormal romance! Shifters are a huge part of the story and I enjoy how captivating and exciting they are. Jenna and Connor have to navigate their relationship and the danger. I enjoyed how witty and spunky Jenna character is along with the way we are able to see Jenna and Connor relationship develops as well. You can't help but to enjoy this story as it a page-turner packed with action, emotion, and romance! If you like smoldering hot alpha male shifter, you can't help but to enjoy this book! It includes a strong heroine and shapeshifters, billionaires, romance, paranormal suspense, action-adventure and exotic tropical locales! You can discover your next hot alpha hero in this story as it continues to introduce readers to such a rich storybook world, from the sunny and beauty of Maui with the spellbinding beautiful scenery of the sunset. Maui just got hotter with these two. Along with the fact that Maui could be a good cover for such an dragon. This such a sizzling romance I guarantee you will enjoy!
Amazing start to the new series. We get to see some of our favorite Hawaiian shifters and get to meet new ones.
The story is about Connor and Jenna. Connor is a dragon shifter and a bit of a loose cannon. Jenny is Jody's little sister (Cruz's mate) and the one with mermaid blood.
While we have a case of insta-love, it was developed nicely. No jumping into bed immediately. There was a nice progression to the relationship. Also, the pearls' role is not very clear...but then again, book one of the previous series only gave a glimpse into the gems.
I'm excited to see where this goes with Tim's arc.
Oh. My. Word. And I thought the Aloha Shifters: Jewels of the Heart was amazing… just you wait until you start Rebel Dragon. Yeah, another completely satisfying visit to the estate (Koa Point) that so reminds me of Magnum P.I and the neighboring property (Koakea Plantation), a run down plantation that several shifters in need of a new direction will be renovating and making their own. Meet Connor, Tim (Timber), Dell (won’t even mention his full name, he’s embarrassed by it) and Chase. Chances are that you’re going to fall just as in love with these shifters as I will… and if you’ve enjoyed Jewels of the Heart then I’m pretty sure about this.
There is some slight world building and background establishing as we add new residents to Maui, but easily devoured within dialogue and the story line. I easily fell into this world once again without a hesitation, that was helped by the appearance or mention of characters I already knew and loved.
Jenna has a connection at the estate she’s heading to on this flight to safety. She’s suddenly become the target of a stalker, and she’s hoping that being far off of the mainland in Hawaii will stop his annoying, increasingly threatening texts and gifts. She’ll be staying with her sister and beginning an exciting new job on Maui. Hopefully the danger will be far behind her. Connor has left the Special Forces and is heading to Hawaii to meet up with his brothers and their friend to begin a new job and a new type of life. Fate put him in the seat next to Jenna on the plane, and fate also has shown, at least his dragon, their mate. The spark is there between them from the beginning, even if they are both hesitant to act on it. Soon they’ll discover that their lives do seem to be fatefully intertwined in danger and in love. Jenna is about to make some amazing discoveries that will change how she views the world forever.
Rebel Dragon captured my heart from the first page and still hasn’t let go. I loved Jenna and Connor together, the discoveries they are about to make will pull you even deeper into the story. We have some pretty vile villains to deal with, solid friendships to build, old friends to catch up with and new adventures to look forward to. I had a blast and I highly recommend Rebel Dragon to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader who enjoys a really good story, likable characters, nasty bad buys to conquer, steamy moments and a very satisfying reading experience. This is why I love Shifter Romance, for stories like this one. Anna Lowe, you’ve done it again and I cannot wait for what comes next.
Oh wow, how exciting I get to travel to awesome Hawaii again with the hot as all get out shifters.
Silas and Kai decide more protection is needed on their sprawling Estate in Maui since they've had so many attacks and who better than former Special Forces dragon Conner Hoving and his merry clan of Special forces shifter brothers. When on the plane on his way to his new job as head of security, Conner is seated next to a terrified beauty who has his senses going loopy. Conner grew up in a different environment than most dragons being the son of a Myriad shifter, he and his brothers are all different species of shifter therefore they were raised with normal but different values. They are not used to the pomp and riches of other shifter especially the very regal dragons. Conner doesn't want to mess up anymore especially not at this job for his and his brothers sake, so he tries his best to stay away from the woman he has realized is his mate, if only he can.
Jenna Monroe is on her way to Hawaii to stay with her sister Jodi and to escape a stalker, she just found out that there is a totally different world out there and she is a huge part of it, who knew that's why she has always loved the water so much. Is she ready to join this new and terrifying world of shifters, well not if that darn vampire stalker get to her first. And man is the guy that was on the plane with her smoking hot and he is living right next door, how can she get any luckier? She is going to make the best of her paradise vacation once she gets her head around all the different beings around her especially what she is and if she can come to terms with what hottie is.
There a new gem in town, how will these Pearls of Desire affect the shifter world of Hawaii.
"You do not get to choose the path to your destiny. Only the choices you make once the journey begins."
Conner, a dragon shifter who left Special Forces, has a new job as head of security at an estate in Maui together with his brothers. He is a rebel who feels like a misfit, but now needs to man up as everything depends on him and this job. But the question is: will his dragon behave with Jenna around?
Jenna is on the run from a stalker who wants her and her blood. She is on her way to her sister in Maui when she meets Mr McStud (Conner) who, by fate or pure coincidence, sits next to her on the plane. She feels safe and protected around him, something she hasn't felt in a long while.
Jenna and Conner run into each other again at the estate (again, by fate or just pure coincidence) and the attraction and desire flares madly between them. They will need to fight the attraction to focus on the looming danger with a rare creature who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
Ms Lowe's writing and plots just gets better and better. The scenes are so descriptive and realistic, it takes you on a breathtaking journey. An Alpha male that will protect his mate at any cost and a female who is strong, independent and relatable. Add a mystical pearl into the mix and you get a story full of adventure, suspense and a whole lot of heat.
Love, love, loved it! Recommended to each and every paranormal lover!
I was gifted a free copy and have voluntarily chosen to leave an honest review.
Book one of the Pearls of Desire (Rebel Dragon) by Anna Lowe. So this series is a spin off to Jewels of the Heart series, the mated Shifters from previous series decide they need security and hire ex-special forces team and three of the shifters are brothers to live and look after the place. Connor get of a flight to Maui to start his new life as security to his friends that live at Kao point and meets his mate Jenna but because he doesn’t realise straight away the go there separate ways at the airport. Jenna has been trying to get away from her stalker and decides to go see her sister at Kao Point that where she bums into Connor again and they find out their living in same place. This book is a bit different to other because three of the shifters are brothers but surprisingly they are different shifter animals because there deadbeat dad could shift into anything and they all have different mothers. I absolutely loved that Jenna didn’t resist much when things heated up with her and Connor and it felt like the relationship developed really nicely and naturally. Only things would say I had against this book is that Jenna never really turns into a proper mermaid but she’s really new to it and I might develop this later in series. The narrator was good but at times did come across as slightly fluffy too upbeat cheerleader which I hadn’t experience with Kelsey Osborne before but I just speeded up the narration speed and which made it a lot better.
Started this while waiting for friend to arrive, got so pulled in didn't notice her pull up in space next to me. Really enjoying.
Book 1 in a new series by Anna Lowe and of course I wanted to read it.
This series is a spin-off from Jewels of the Heart Based in Hawaii, this is a new series with new shifters, a mixed bunch at that. Book 1 is about Connor, a dragon shifter who feels the need to prove himself to everyone.
Jenna is connected to the shifters that are already settled on the island, she is in fact Jodie's sister. She is spooked by some unwanted attention.
I loved how these two meet and how their story is told, it doesn't feel rushed at all and mingles in with the world building for the new set up.
The chemistry between Jenna and Connor shimmers along nicely, they are mates after all, and Jenna is not shy in telling Connor she wants him, I do love a woman that knows what she wants.
There is always a little suspense and danger in this authors books, just enough for me.
As this is a spin-off we get a glimpse at the mated shifters from Koa point and yes they're all loved up still but had a feel of settled down and happy, which was lovely, hope there are more cameos through this new series. I have to say the new characthers seem to have enough personality not to need a cameo, but they're fun.
This sets up the new series very well and a suggested storyline too, but the author may be teasing us.
First I want to say that this is a full-length story. It's not a novella packaged as a book. This author writes amazing stories with great characters (those you love & those you love to dislike), fast-moving plots, unexpected twist and turns, and, of course, hot alpha shifters who meet their mates (strong women you can admire). Anna Lowe pays attention to details that make the book come alive as you read.
I am voluntarily reviewing a book gifted to me by the author with no obligation.
I love these characters. Jenna is strong and carefree even when she's afraid of the stalker texting her. Connor didn't have the best upbringing, though his single mom tried. Then he went a little wild in his service days. Now he's buckling down and getting serious. Maybe too cautious? This fast paced tale has action, suspense, and some surprises I didn't see coming, along with a sexy fated romance.
Shifter goodness at it’s best. Imagine a whole family of shifters who share a father but not type. Great drama and the villain is so devious. Jenna finally breaks out of the “little sister” role and claims her mate. Connor is a big cuddly dragon who totally doubts himself and his ability to “do the right thing” for his family. Can’t wait for next book in series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book was really good. I really like the way this series is going. This group are not perfect and don't have everything going for them, but they still get it all in the end, with a few bumps. It was also nice to have the other characters from the other series pop in as well.

New book in a new series and I must say it is one of Anna Lowe's best books. I loved the plot. I found the villain to be a surprise. And I loved all of the interactions of the new clan members and their relationship to the original Alpha shifters. Jenna was an amazing heroine, very courageous and strong. And Conner an amazing hero who showed a depth of growth with his clan. Loved this story.
Connor is a Dragon shifter. Connor had a no show father who enjoyed spreading his DNA, so he has several half siblings. Connor feels it's his job to look out for the others. Jenna is being stalked by someone, or something creepy so she goes to visit her sister. The two are brought together at the same place, Connor for work, Jenna to be with her sister, is it fate? I enjoyed the story of this one, it was just a bit long and drawn out for my taste.
Jenna, a surfer, is headed to Maui. A relaxing vacation to visit her sister, Jody, and enjoy the beautiful sights it is not. She's running from a stalker, and she has no idea who it could be or why they're after her. She just knows she doesn't want him to catch her.
Connor, former Special Forces, has signed on, along with his fellow teammates, to help Silas with security. But first, he must pass his first assignment. Though he easily has the skills to do so, he doesn't have the focus, nor does his dragon, as the beautiful Jenna has captured his eye. Unfortunately, Jenna is off-limits.
As Connor and Jenna spend more time together to ensure her safety, the intense chemistry between them only grows stronger. Their ability to resist, however, continually fades.
Soon, Connor and Jenna are exploring what's between them, both knowing how special what they found is. Connor's dragon knows Jenna is their other half, but Jenna is slowly making her way through the knowledge that shifters exist, and the man she's falling for is one of them.
Can Connor keep Jenna safe? Will Jenna realize not all shifters are bad? Who is after her and why? Will the danger surrounding Jenna always be there? Or will she and Connor get their HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people meet under unique circumstances and discover a love that was always meant to be.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**
This series carries on from The Aloha Shifters, Jewels of the Heart series and whilst it can be read alone, it is better if the Aloha Shifters series is read first as all the characters from that series have a part to play in this one.
Connor is a dragon shifter who is something of a lovable rogue. He has a good heart but between him, his brothers Tim and Chase and surrogate ‘brother’ Dell, trouble has a way of always finding them. We meet him on the way to Hawaii where he’s to take up a security job and possible Alpha of his ragtag clan on the adjoining property to Koa Point, the home of the Aloha Shifters. Sitting next to him on the flight is Jenna, sister of Jody who is running to Koa Point to hide from a stalker and he feels an attraction he has never felt before. Jenna is something of a rebel. She’s unhappy about being the baby of the family and feels that now is the time when she can spread her wings. Except that travelling to Koa Point means that as Jody’s sister, she’s the baby of an even bigger family! When Connor takes the seat next to her on the plane, Jenna feels an unfathomable attraction to him and despite her innate fear because of her stalker, she feels safe with him. So much so that she sleeps restfully for most of the flight with no nightmares about the vampire she suspects is after her.
Although they are staying at neighbouring properties, it’s not long before they find each other again and they work hard to ignore their feelings for each other. Connor, because he has his hands full with his security work and trying to make a good impression to be named Alpha at Koakea Plantation instead of Cynthia, a mysterious fellow dragon shifter and single mum to Joey who is also being considered as a possible Alpha for their ragtag clan. Connor’s first security job is to watch a visiting dragon shifter called Draig and his nephew Anton who are holidaying in Hawaii aboard Draig’s yacht.
Like her sister Jody, Jenna is completely at home swimming in the sea or riding a wave and the bonus is that she believes the sea keeps her safe from the vampire she firmly believes is her stalker. It would appear that the heart to heart with Jody some months previously has led her to have a wildly overactive imagination! The suspense comes in the form of discovering exactly who her stalker is and the battle Connor has in keeping her alive.
As spin offs go, there is no recapping so as I’ve said before, it really would be more enjoyable if the Aloha Shifters Jewels of the Heart series is read first to give you an insight into the secondary characters. I was just as riveted reading this as I was reading them, and you won’t be disappointed.
Wonderful to be staying in Maui with a new set of shifters. A great spin-off series following on from the wonderful Jewels of the Heart. This time we have the Pearls of Desire which have a sad history attached to them but that help out those with true love in their hearts. Really liked how Ms Lowe brings the wonderful island of Maui straight into your senses. I can see, smell and feel the lushness of this beautiful island whilst reading. To really get the best of this book I would suggest reading LURE OF THE TIGER first to get more knowledge about Jenna and her special blood. In this new series we get some seriously tough alpha men, Connor, his brothers Tim (a bear shifter) and Chance (a wolf shifter) and their brother of the heart Dell (a lion shifter). If you want to know how three brothers are all different shifters you will have to read this story. In this first story, our Alpha leader Connor is a dragon who is scared of water and is perfect for our mermaid blooded Jenna. He has not always been a good little soldier following orders blindly, unfortunately his brothers tended to follow him so any trouble found them too. Working for Koa Point means a fresh start, a good steady job and a chance to make something of their lives. Living on Koakea Planation means a chance to set down roots. Connor cannot do anything to mess this up. Meeting and falling for Jenna on the plane to Maui could be one big mess up. These men are also former special forces soldiers known to the men of Koa Point, who need a place to settle down and call home. The fact they will also be getting the one woman in the whole world who will complete and compliment them is an added component in making this a great series. Thrown into this mix living at Koakea Plantation is a mystery widowed woman, Cynthia, (a dragon shifter) and her adorable little boy Joey. Jenna is fleeing to Koa Point and her sister Jody. The chance of working for Teddy Akoa making surf boards in one not to be missed but getting away from her stalker is what prompted this quick change of direction in her life. Meeting the tough silent Connor on the plane and feeling safe in his presence gives Jenna the chance to sleep for the first time in weeks. Finding out he is living on the plantation next door to Koa Point gives them the chance to spend time together. Love how this story flows and the surprise with Jenna’s stalker was good. Cannot wait to read Cynthia’s story as well as the rest of the boys.
This is another great read from Anna Lowe. It is part of a new series but related to the previous one and has many of my favorite characters back. You probably will want to go read the earlier books once you realize how great a read it is but you don't have to.
The author did a wonderful job building the relationship between Jenna and Connor. You get a lot of background that helped me feel like I really understood the characters and why they were making the choices they made. Jenna and Connor have great chemistry from the very beginning.
I liked and respected both Jenna and Connor. I felt like they tried to make the best choices for themselves and others and really cared about the people in their life. He has an interesting family both biological and made by friendship. Connor's devotion to his brothers is very admirable.
The course of love is not easy. The opening is really good and you feel the foreshadowing of danger. The fear keeps building as you wait for the enemy to make their appearance. There are personal issues too that make him hesitant to pursue her. He wants to do what was right and focus on his job but his dragon really pulls him towards Jenna.
The author also does a really good job with developing the other characters too and increasing interest in reading their stories. Cynthia is a really interesting character and hear some of her story Her son helps illustrate a different side to Dell. It definitely make me look forward to hearing their stories. Chase is also a real mystery too especially with how he was raised. I think that will be a very interesting story.
I liked the ending and felt it resolved their story but still left room for the other stories. Too many times the author leaves too much open at the end to help bring others to the next books if they want answers. The author doesn't leave the reader with a big cliffhanger but left me with the feeling of looking forward to more.
This is a spin-off series from my favorite series by Anna Lowe so far, The Aloha Shifters. This story features characters from those books, so for me this series is like a continuation of that series. In Rebel Dragon, there are POV chapters from each of the 2 main characters, Connor and Jenna. I love getting POV from both main characters! It's great to see each of their perspectives. I listened to the audio version, and the narrator does a good job. I would've loved to hear this with a female narrator for the female parts, and a male narrator for the male parts because there were some times that Connor came across as feminine, but that may be some of the word choices by the author. I still really enjoy the audio though, and recommend it.
I enjoyed the action in Rebel Dragon, and I do like that magical items are involved in the storyline. I do wish that the storyline was more different than the previous Aloha series, but I still enjoy that type of storyline. This story moved a little slow for me, and I didn't quite feel the connection with the characters that I had with most of Anna Lowe's characters. I'm not loving the other characters yet, but I'm still looking forward to their books, and seeing them develop. Right now, it seems like they are all basic, but I know Anna Lowe will have some great stories for all the characters. I liked both Connor and Jenna, and they are sweet together, but I didn't quite feel the depth of love most of the other mate pairings have felt. Connor and Jenna are more of a fun and light-hearted mate pairing, which isn't a bad thing, I just love a bit more Alphaness. They do have some steam though! I was disappointed in Jenna with how much she overreacted with her sister's husband, but I appreciated her standing up for herself other times. She's a tough cookie. I always love dragon shifters! I'm on the fence about part mermaids, but it was still a fun scenario. Some under the sea adventures! Overall, I really enjoyed Rebel Dragon, and it was fun and entertaining! I'm interested to see where this series goes!
An addictively good, steamy PNR with thriller overtones, an adrenaline pumping, nail-bitingly good climax and a warm fuzzy HEA
I love Anna Lowe's books, I've read quite a few of them over the years and freely admit I'm addicted to the Twin Moon series' as well Shifters in Vegas, Blue Moon Saloon, Island Escapes, Serendipity Adventures...the list goes on. Her new paranormal romance series, 'Pearls of Desire', the latest under her Hawaii set 'Aloha Shifters' umbrella promises to be just as addictive and equally as good the first Aloha series 'Jewels of the Heart'. The first book, 'Rebel Dragon' is absolutely terrific. Once I started reading, I was there with the characters and completely engrossed in this spellbinding story. Sweet and steamy with danger around almost every corner, bad guy action and thriller overtones I was there with them in my idea of paradise, following the clues and facing down the vipers along with everyone else.
The bare bones tell two stories that merge into one another and become an edgy but totally wonderful whole. First there's dragon shifter Connor Hoving and his team, recently discharged ex-military and desperately trying to make a life for themselves on Civvy Street, hoping against hope that they make a success of the opportunity they've been given by the shifter team next door on Koa Point because, well, they really don't have anywhere else to go. Then there's Jenna Monroe, a woman who loves to surf and beachcomb, with olympic level swimming capabilities who has somehow managed to acquire a mysterious paranormal stalker in her Californian home town, but an opportunity to apprentice to a master board carver is just the break she needs. There are twists and turns aplenty as well as some startling revelations from Jenna's sister, Jody, who Jenna is staying with on Maui while she's there and who was in the first 'Aloha' series. There's so much story in this book that to say anything more about it would be a mistake on my part, because I really don't think I'd be able to stop before I told you everything. I could go on and on, but I won't. There are some really sweet, as well as some not so sweet, moments, some warm and fuzzy romantic moments, seriously steamy moments, some totally magical and spellbinding moments and some seriously adrenaline pumping, edge of the seat rooting for the good guys moments as the story unfolds and races towards a nail-bitingly good climax.
I absolutely loved this terrific story with it's action, humour, romance and happily ever after and have given it a well deserved 5 stars. I've also added it to my ever growing 'read again' and 'rescue if the house was burning down' lists. I really can't wait to read the next one in what promises to be another addictively good series from one of my favourite 'go to' authors.
Oh my! I'm so in love with this spin-off from the Aloha Shifters-Jewels of the Heart, series. Once again, Anna Lowe has captured our hearts with her witty and complex characters, and their constant battle, seeking a life full of love and devoid of evil. In this, the first of the new series, we are introduced to a new "gang", a mixed breed family thanks to some awesome family genes, who need new starts in life, and a greater need to prove themselves worthy of the status of "shifter". When Connor and his myriad of brothers gather together for a new lease on life outside of the special ops structure, they know they have lots to prove, but will they be able to settle down enough to stay out of trouble, or will trouble come find them as usual? Jenna is running for her life! After a freak photo caption of her in a local newspaper, she's captured the unwanted attention of a stalker. The only question is whether or not he is human or of the paranormal type. Having recently discovered the origins of a second nature, she's paranoid to go anywhere. It seems that he's tracking her closely, leaving her petrified and unable to function. When a perfect opportunity comes up for her to join her sister Jody in Koa Point, Maui, she jumps at it, hoping that somehow, she will be able to loose her stalker. When Connor sits in the seat next to her on the plane, it would appear that destiny was once again showing her strength, because never has Jenna felt as safe as she did with Connor sitting there beside her, and Connor's inner dragon is certain that Jenna's their mate. Will they follow the route Destiny has set out for them, or will the odd twist and turn take them on a journey neither will ever forget? An absolute wonder to read, this story will have you falling in love all over again. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.
I absolutely loved Anna's Jewels series (total fan of "Magnum, P.I." that I am, how could I not?), and I'm also a sucker for Paranormal Romance. OK, I'm also an enormous fangirl when it comes to Military Suspense Romance books... and I love just about anything with Dragons... I also love little touches of fairytale-retelling, snappy dialog, clever plot lines, deeply thought-out back stories, and compelling, relateable characters...
What can I say, "Rebel Dragon" is just about perfect for someone like me!
Connor and Jenna are so likable, and their relationship isn't just a case of "insta-love," though Connor's Inner Dragon certainly recognizes his Mate, of course. Things progress over time, with some bumps along the way - some of them truly frightening. And I have to give Anna props for throwing me a curve! I did not see that coming... nicely done.
The Pearls are interesting, and I want to know more about the lore behind them. So mysterious! Personally, I love pearls - they need to be handled regularly, and they warm up when you wear them; they're the only "gem" created from a living creature. Almost like magic, don't you think? They come in such an array of colors, with no two the same shape or size... perfect for a Paranormal Romance series set in Hawaii.
There's so much to love here, no matter what type of Romance Genre you like: Paranormal - Heck yeah, got ya covered! Hot Military Romance? Roger Copy! Suspense or mystery? Lots of spine-tingly goodness, comin' up! Hot, sexy action? So, sooo good (yet doesn't take over the entire story, I promise - totally NOT the point)!
And finally, my favorite line: "The horizon was dark, the sun off visiting other lovers on distant shores."
If that doesn't move you, you have no poetry in your soul.
First book in another Shifter Series by Anna Lowe that builds on her previous shifter series set in Hawaii. It takes a while for background on characters and new location to be established, so action does not really get started until midway through this story.
It was delightful to have characters from earlier series interacting with this new group of characters, and I think it rounds out the story if you have read the earlier series. Hero Connor has been a daredevil screw-up in the past and wants to make his mark and find respect in this last chance work opportunity. I did find Connor's repetitive self criticism and negativity to drag the story down a bit. However on the lighter side, this book once again demonstrates Anna is gifted at giving inner Shifter characters a unique and amusing voice that is distinctly separate from the personalities of each character.
Heroine Jenna is the sister of Jody the key female character in Lure of the Tiger from the earlier series. Both women are surfers and I love that their ambition is to open a business together creating surf boards. Jenna has an interesting role hinted at in some of the plot twists in the earlier book, and this Series centers around the finding of Pearls that are magical and mystical and help these Shifter Fated Mates defeat dark forces.
This story gives us just enough of a hint of backstories and gifts of Connor’s brothers to keep me interested in the series, and there are tantalizing hints of future intrigue with the Alpha Female and her son who share their part of Koa Point Plantation. Final Rating: 3.5 Stars
I am voluntarily reviewing a book gifted to me by the author with no obligation...
Anna Lowe is one of my favorite authors that writes about shifters. Aloha Shifters: Pearls of Desire is a new series and Rebel Dragon is the first book in the series.
This group is located in Hawaii and has come joined the group of shifters that were written about in the Aloha Shifters: Jewels of the Heart series (another great series). Connor and his brothers have come to Hawaii to start over. He feels like it's one of his last chances to prove himself even though he was special forces. While flying to Maui, he meets Jenna, a shy and frightened woman on his flight. Jenna is on her way to meet her sister and escape from what she things may be a crazed vampire stalker. She's hoping to get away but keeps watching over her shoulder fearing she'll never be safe. Connor promises to protect her and she falls asleep on the flight. By the time, the plane lands, they feel a strange connection but part ways with no way of contacting each other. As luck would have it Jenna is sisters with Jody who is mated to Cruz (who's part of the shifters already set up on Maui and the group that Connor is going to join).
They meet the next day and the pull keeps getting stronger. But Jenna's not telling everyone the truth about her stalker and Connor is trying not to mess up this new job and wants to prove himself as the alpha and take over this new group of shifters. This begins the fun part of the book where you get to see Jenna and Connor and their coming together. Such a great read and an epic battle! Can't wait to read more about this new clan, especially Cynthia and Dell.
REBEL DRAGON - STEAMS UP THE PAGES. A captivating story that grabbed my attention from the first page and kept it until the heavenly conclusion. Inside; action, suspense, horrific danger, life-threatening incidents, humor, fabulous characters, picturesque vivid dynamic scene descriptions, and fiery passionate romance.
Connor a buffed gorgeous dragon shifter has his work cut out for him when he accepts a security job in Maui; he has always been one to break rules; following rules is imperative to keep his job and finally have the life he yearns for. Jenna a dazzling, sassy surfer comes to Maui to see her sister who has offered protection from the stalker that haunts her. Jenna and Connor harbor fiery desires for each other. Jenna is forbidden to Conner if he wants to keep his job. They eventually get their happily ever after but not before all the dangerous obstacles are put to rest.
A THRILLING read that at times had me on the edge of my seat, I laughed at the witty dialogue, and cheered too. I adored Connor and Jenna together; their chemistry is definitely genuine and their devotion to each other shines. Both are definitely a force to be reckoned with. The backstories give the reader much insight into the personas of Connor and Jenna. Finding this to be a most entertaining shifter read and loved it so much, {of my own volition without any stipulations, I reviewed an advanced copy. Without reservations, I recommend this read.
