Since that fateful day she was snatched from her job and turned into a Vampire, Mandy's life has sucked-literally. Forced to become an assassin for the Vampire Council, she finds solace in taking out the scumbag rogues she's often assigned to kill. Things go south when she realizes her next mark is an old coworker from her human days…a seriously hot one, who she had deep feelings for. Worse, the council was wrong. He's not a villain, but a protector. One she refuses to kill, regardless of orders.
Glacier's astonished to come face to face with Mandy in a dark alley. Even more so to learn the sweet one-time human is now an assassin-assigned to kill him, no less. His orders are clear. Eliminate her. But what's a GarLycan to do when duty conflicts with his desire to protect the woman he once had feelings for? He's about to find out.
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
"I'm sorry they got their hands on you, Mandy." "Thank you. Sometimes life sucks, and now so do I. That vampire joke never gets old."
I have clearly distinguish two parts in this book. The first part continues the story of the missing Lycan children that started in "Creed". Glacier is actually Creed's brother and obviously he is a GarLycan (part Gargoyle, part Lycan). This part of the book is powerfully written. It describes how and when Glacier and Mandy met for the first time, how Mandy became a vampire and later on a vampire assassin and under what circumstances they meet again. These circumstances are related to the missing children's plot. I have to emphasise here that this was a strong plot. I wanted more. More details. More explanations. More pages. Some rescuing. Some continuation maybe in next books. Unfortunately it finished fast.
The second part of the book is basically the mating of Glacier and Mandy and the running away from a few Lycan idiot douchebags. I felt that this part was chaotic. It could have been more focused and more tighten with the first part of the book. Before the book finishes, another storyline will start about the Vampire who fathered the first VampLycans. I don't know how the plot will continue in the next book, but I would love to meet a likeable male vampire. Especially in this book, the male vampires were portrayed with the darkest colours.
Overall it was a nice adventure and a nice addition to the series.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: ❤️💙💜💚 Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎 Character development: 😠☺️😋😍 Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Solo Narration
The heroine:Mandy - she was a fierce woman who used to work at a nightclub and dealt with the bands that played there. She had a crush on the huge bouncer nicknamed “Ice” who worked in the club as well. When a group of ‘troublemakers’ were in the club, Ice told her to get the band out of the club as soon as their set ends and go home herself. She was attacked and turned into a vampire outside the club that night.
The Hero:Glacier (a.k.a. Ice) - he is a GarLycan (result of a mating between a Gargoyle and a Lycan). He worked in a nightclub in the late 80’s but at present he is after vampires who have been stealing Lycan kids and making them fight to the death.
The Story: The night after Mandy was transformed into a vampire, the Vampire council swooped in and cleaned out her nest and killed the master that turned her. They gave her bagged blood and turned her into an assassin for them and had to continue to be so for a certain length of time. At present she and her friend Olivia have a dozen years of service left and they are after an enforcer who has been hunting vampires and cleaning out nests. It turns out the man they are after is someone she used to know and have a crush on.
I like this series so much especially because every book has a different setting and though there are overarching storylines, the main romance storyline is new and distinct in each book, with different races of human and paranormal individuals in each book. I really have liked all the characters, especially the women who are feisty and strong.
This book is told in multiple points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Savannah Richards. She has been doing a terrific job on this whole series so far and though I don’t usually buy audiobooks with solo narration, I ended up buying this whole series. I like the books so much I bought many of Laurann Dohner’s other series as well.
I liked this one well enough. Not super great but not bad at all, IMO. Very plus side of ok! I would have liked it better if Mandy wasn't just so darn good! She was just always ready to do the right thing, to sacrifice herself. Not really a martyr, just so... cooperative. A Little bit irritating. 😕 But not at all in the way the first 2 h's from this series were. They were *itches! Mandy is sweet like cotton candy. But she's a BA assasin...
“I’m a total badass. I just use my powers for good.” ~Mandy
Anywho, I'll definitely continue the series, as I love LD's weird writing style. Her books are one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Happy reading!
I have several series that I read as escape from more serious books and this is one of them!
I like this series, with a slightly mechanical writing style. To me it seems like there's too much explaining between the characters, too much stressing the obvious.
But I still like the stories and here we have a vampire and a GarLycan: Mandy and Glacier/Ice!
Mandy was turned by force and never were a typical vampire. She's compassionate and honorable, but trapped by council in a role che doesn't like.
So when Glacier stumbles upon her she's killing a fellow vampire to protect a child. Obviously things are not what they appear. The child is not a child... but a bait. So Mandy, the assassin, becomes prey.
Glcier doesn't know how to handle her. After all, she's a vampire and vampires are despised. But, at the same time, she's known her from before and were attrcated to her then and still is now.
Their start is very brutal: Mandy is resigned to what she think is her destiny - to die, either by Glacier's hand or that of the council. Either way, she's dead, but she prefers Glacier to kill her: at least he will not torture her.
Glacier is appalled by her willingness to die. He also sees that she's not a typical vampire. She's honest and willing to answer any question he has honestly. She also has morals: she's not a cold blooded killer.
Their story starts as brutal, but changes rather quickly. I liked that both of them didn't deny their attraction - all the contrary.
I also appreciated that se didn't come in the first 10 pages as it's the case with this kind of books. They had sex later on, when thei attraction was acknowledged by themselves and sanctioned by GarLycan authority thus avoiding the annoying running from both enemies and friends that often happen in the genre.
I thik the next be Past's book and I'm looking forward to it! :)
Oh wee! I loved the turnaround in this story. We really haven’t meet vampires who were good yet. So this story had me all intrigued.
I am a fan of this series and I loved that the narration hasn’t changed.
We learned of Glacier in Creed’s book and he had me wanting more because he was so stone cold or that is how he comes off. But he is totally a big softy in the center.
I kind of loved that Mandy had a past and isn’t afraid to take care of herself but without making her too hard. She was still sweet and you would think that her past would have or could have affected her in a different way. I am glad it didn’t. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
I loved this book like I have loved the rest of this series and lets be real, all the books I have read from laurann Dohner. I love that this series takes new twists and turns and has such a wide verity of heroes. This story fits right in with this series but it is also very different. I enjoyed reading this book so much. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
The irony of life, one day a wait staff at a strip club, the next a vampire assassin for the Vampire Council. In the end, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do to survive. That is until she's assigned to assassinate a guy she had a crush on at the club she worked at when human.
Glacier is the GarLycan (Gargoyle/Lycan hybrid) sent to investigate the disappearance of Lycan kids. The local Alpha Lycan has been unable to flush out the suspected vampire nest felt responsible thus the reason Glacier is involved.
After a series attempts to assassinate each other, misunderstandings, and basic lust, the two decide to partner up to solve the identity of those responsible for the lost Lycan kids. Along the way they'll discover truths about themselves and others that will affect the Gargoyle, Lycan, and Vampire world.

Enjoyable paranormal romance tale that continues the "VLG" series. Combination of romance, action-adventure, mystery-suspense, and adult content scenes fans of the series will appreciate.
The one downer is the repeated "hot potato" who wants to be Alpha slant.
I love this series. But then again I love every ones by Laurann. Anyway, Glacier was awesome addition to VLG. I love him. Though there were complications to be with Mandy, he still wasn't ready to let her go. He was even ready to meet consequences if he must. I'm so ready for next book. I'm not even sure which of those guys I want next. Oh, well, I will be happy with any.
Glacier was working undercover at a nightclub when he first met human security guard Mandy. He told her to leave one night when things were going down and after refusing her request for a date. Mandy disappeared after that night.
Fast forward 20 years or so and Mandy is now an assassin for the Vampire Council. She and her partner has been sent in to kill who they believe is a rogue Lycan killing vampires. In fact, Glacier is there helping the local Lycan clan kill the master vampire and his nest who are kidnapping Lycan children for underground cage fights.
Glacier caught Mandy and discovered what happened to her that night and wanted to save her from the Vampire Council as well as the local Lycan gang.
I enjoyed Glacier’s story. And we learned a bit more about the mysterious Vampire Council.
This series gets better and better. I loved that while Glacier had every reason to assassinate Mandy due to her appearing to be kidnapping a werecub. However, instead he knocked her out (a vampire) to give her the opportunity to prove that she was still the sweet human she was when they knew each other decades ago. Also to make sure that humans didn't see their interaction. Their relationship progress organically and Pest (Glacier's brother) was a hoot and I can't wait for his book in this series.
Not everyone gets a second chance, but the author made sure these two did. They might really have to work for it, and the author made sure to give us lots of action and adventure, but when a HEA is meant to be love will always find a way. I really enjoyed the way the author expanded on the original story line and keeps bringing us fresh love stories. I can’t wait to read the next book
3.5 Stars I don’t know what it was, but this book just missed the mark for me. I didn’t enjoy it as much as some of Laurann’s other books. The relationship felt very insta-lovey to me and I wasn’t feeling the couple at all. The overall plot was meh. And the world just didn’t grab me as much as it usually does.
I love how Mandy is so tender hearted and how she is very open and honest with Glacier after he captures her. The love that they have for each other is beautiful. Can't wait to see more from his brothers. Well done job Laurann Dohner.
Got the book on its release day and just finished it. Dohner book's for me tend to be page turners that are read in one sitting. The books in this series just keep getting better but I haven't read one of her books that were not good but most were great. The New Species was my favorite series by Laurann but this one is quickly gaining on it. I highly recommend this book, author and series to anyone who even remotely likes PNR. Happy reading. SQ
Another great read from Laurann Dohner! I think Glacier is my fav Alpha in this series so far but I say that after reading each of LD's novels LOL. If you love Laurann...and her books you will adore Glacier. Nice to see a VLG out in the world...and loved the epilogue! Thanks for the great read.
Ok what can I say about this story; it wasn't what I was expecting and it definitely wasn't my favourite in the series so far. Glacier seemed to cool, calm and collected for my liking. He was attracted to Mandy from the start but did nothing about it cause she was human didn't even give her a chance. I mean other GarLycan's have human mates and they can make it work by giving them their blood so what the heck Glacier why did you have to be such a manwhore! He supposedly liked her soooo much that when she didnt show up for work the next day he just took for granted that she'd quit her job after his rejection of her um ego much Glacier. My only consolation was that if he had done things differently there would have been no story so he had to be a douche to begin with. Then after 30 years they meet again and he discovers Mandy's not who she used to be (kinda his fault by the way). He's very untrusting of her cause of his prejudice to her kind so what does he do to get answers from her?? Knocks her out! That's right punches her in the face! I don't care that she'd heal from it that was just wrong. His harsh and cold treatment of her even though from her behaviour and words you could see she wasn't like every other from her kind wasn't enough for him to trust her, not even when she kept offering up her head several times I might add. Damn even an idiot could have seen how kind hearted she was but there's a difference between being kind hearted and being a door mat. She lost her spunk once she saw him again and she should have at least told him outright that she wasn't going to stand still while he killed her that she was a good person and had a right to live. Their supposed passion wasn't very thrilling to be honest. Their wasn't any intensity or build up to the relationship all he did was question what he felt for her, I mean he saw her showering for goodness sake and didn't do or say anything. When they finally got together he asked her first if she wanted to be with him and then pondered how they could have sex without her biting him. I just didn't find their love believable, it felt rushed/forced to be honest even if after he finally learnt to trust her he was very sweet and kind to her. I did find the secret reason why she couldn't bite him very interesting and Glaciers brother's to be a hoot and can't wait to read Nebulas and Tempests story though Pest's story should be first for tempting fate lol. I just wished that their would have been a way for them to be able to have kids. That would have been the icing on the cake for me but it did show how much Glacier loved her for having sacrificed ever having children of his own for her.
I love anything and everything from Laurann Dohner. Every series that I have ever read from her has been absolutely amazing. I have to admit that I am completely obsessed with her New Species series but the VLG series is also very good. I remember Glacier from Creed. I am happy that the entire family will be getting books and Glacier found his mate.
A lot of things happened within the story and all of it was good. There wasn't a moment within the store where I felt as though I just wanted it to hurry up and move along. There was action from the beginning, when we are first introduced to Glacier and Mandy to the very last scene. Even the epilogue, which sometimes is unnecessary, was cute. I'm excited to see the other brother's get books however the next book is not about Creed or Glacier's brothers.
I don't remember who Redson is and I do know that he is the next person in line to get a book. Redson will more than likely introduce us to new characters or we might be seeing some characters from previous books. I cannot wait to see who this old vampire is and why it seems that everybody wants him dead.
Mandy's darkest secrets had been the retaliation she took on her family after the cruelty she'd suffered at their hands. All she really wanted was the sunny side of life as she told her boss, Ice, when he refused her invitation for a date, instead advising Mandy to leave the club as soon as her job finished that night to avoid the trouble they expected.
Too bad Mandy left later than Ice advised and ended the night turned into a vampire. Better for Mandy she's rescued by the Vampire Council before she's forced to become part of her new nest's depraved master's harem. The cost of this rescue is becoming a Council assassin and Mandy's got twelve years before she can call her undead life her own.
Even now, more than thirty years later, Mandy recognizes tonight's target even though he's a were. But more to the point Ice recognizes her. Having maintained a good bit of her humanity, Mandy tells Ice all she can about the Vampire council and her assignment, knowing the Council will kill her for not killing him.
To my taste the gargoyle related tales have been the best outings of the series. Mandy and Glacier are very great as they recognize and face the issues of being a couple. Their tightly woven story held together nicely leaving no threads untended. It was good to have the brothers together and I liked Glacier's story tying neatly to the earlier series entries. Rating 4stars
I really enjoyed this book. It had a little second chance romance thing going for it that I really liked. In this series you don't see that very often.
Mild Spoilers Ahead:
Our heroine, Mandy, is a basa** vampire assassin with a heart of gold. She was turned, against her will, in the late eighties and is indentured to the vampire council as an assassin. Glacier, our hero, is a scorching hot GarLycan with a protector streak a mile wide. He's been sent to deal with a vampire nest that's been killing Lycan children. Mandy has been sent to take him out under false pretenses. Little does she know he's her dream man from 1989. Sparks fly!
I have to set something straight here. One of the other reviewers was pissed because Glacier punches Mandy in the face shortly after meeting her. The reviewer said the author was romanticizing violence against women. Let's put this into perspective. At the time that he punched her she is asking him to kill by ripping her head off. Instead, he punches her to knock her out until he can restrain her and figure out if she is a threat. Again, she was asking him to KILL her. It's a wonderful book. Don't let that review turn you off.
I'm totally loving this series. I think I like the Garlycans more than the Vamplycans. Maybe it's just me, cause I like the wings aspect. This book tells the story of Glacier and Mandy. Mandy was once a human working in a nightclub when she was taken and made vampire, now she's an assassin that works for the vampire council, assigned to terminate rouge vampires. Glacier is a garlycan, protector of his race and their secrets from humans. Mandy's assignment is to take out lycans who are murdering an entire vampire nest. But she comes face to face with Glacier, once known to her as Ice when she was human, a man she was deeply attracted to. She learns not only that he isn't the one taking out the vampires, but that it's the vampires killing young lycans. Glacier is there to protect the young lycans and working with them to put a stop to the vampires responsible for the murders. They find each other in an alley, when she went after a vampire about to kill a kid. It's been years since Glacier has seen Mandy, and he's not sure what to do with her, so he abducts her to gather information and get to the bottom of the killings.
Any book that has Laurann Dohner's name as author, I'm reading. No questions asked. I love her imagination! Her series are all so different. New Species, Cyborgs, VLG, Werevolves/Shifters, Aliens and regular human ranch owners! And every one of them are believable and so much fun! I'd love to be inside her head just to watch the magic happen. Glacier is a GarLycan. A new race, among others where Lycans are able to breed and have children with both Vampires to create VampLycans; and Gargoyles to create GarLycans. Each race is stronger than their parents and have very different abilites. I've enjoyed each book in this series but this gives us a different view of Vampires. We've seen them as bad guys in Lorne's story and good guys in Kraven's. This brought a whole new dyanmic.
I saw some people mentioned a punch the hero gave the heroine, it really wasn’t domestic abuse. She’s an Assassin sent to kill him and he decided to knock her out quickly, remove a tracker she explained was implanted in her against her will while she unconscious and takes her away from a council who wants to kill her. She was prepared for him to kill her. He saved her and took her to safety. He knew her before she was changed to a vampire and didn’t want to hurt her because she was and still seemed to be a sweetheart.
So far I've read every book Laurann has written and never once had she earned less than a 5Star rating from me. This book is no exception. Her only flaw is she doesn't write faster. I love how she marries different species, clans and packs together. With all the different spin offs and subject matter to choose from in this series of should keep the VLG world going for years to come. We can only hope she never gets bored writing them. That being said, I really miss the other series she got me addicted to and would love to see more. Adoring Fan DanaLynn
Although I do not love this series as much as I do the New Species and Cyborgs, they’re still entertaining and a good days’ read. Glacier is a hot GarLycan, and I liked that at first Mandy was a kickass heroine in need of nobody’s help....I just wish she would have stayed like that instead of stepping back and letting big bad Glacier take care of everything...I just can’t decide which of his two unmated brothers will end up with Olivia....
This series makes a woman want to move and set up house in Alaska! Just in the hopes of finding her own VampLycan or GarLycan! These males are beyond HOT!!!!! Glacier is a dream come true. This is another hit for Laurann Dohner! A good read! I don't give spoilers. This book is worth buying. If you are new to this author, come join the rest of US fans! It will definitely be worth your time.
This is one of my favorite series. Glacier meets Mandy while on a job. He turns her offer down and that night bad things happen. Fast forward 30 years. They meet again. I loved Glacier. Very gruff but fair and so sweet. Mandy is funny. She is loyal and totally understanding. She is great. Loved the ending. Can't wait for the other brothers to find their mates.
