The 'Rents (Junior Novel #20): At school, Lizzie is assigned to read The Orchids and Gumbo Poker Club, which is about a mother and daughter's relationship. She loves the book and wants to get closer to her own mother. Mrs. McGuire is more than happy to spend time with Lizzie. They make pottery together and are best friends. But when Mrs. McGuire tells Lizzie things she doesn't want to know, like that her grandmother wants to leave her grandfather and that at one time Mr. McGuire had a tax mix-up, Lizzie wishes she could go back to being the kid. Can Lizzie strike the delicate balance between being her mother's friend and her daughter? Plus, Lizzie tries to make time to hang out with her dad.

The Good: Not only is this a great novelization of two Lizzie McGuire episodes, but the first one is among the most iconic ones in the series. Like many books based on TV shows and movies, you get extra details, such as Lizzie's thoughts that aren't revealed by her animated alter ego. All in all, a treat for fans of the original show.

The Bad: About the only complaint I can come up with is that there was an ad for W.I.T.C.H. in the back matter.

Conclusion: I've said time and time again that I hold Lizzie McGuire in high regard to this day, because it changed my life. Revisiting the series through these books has been a blast; after completing this, I can say that I've read all of the novelizations, and some more than once. Now, I just need to finish the Mysteries series, the other Super Special book, and get my hands on the rest of the Cine-Mangas, and I'll be able to say I've read every single Lizzie book there is.

As a lifelong Lizzie McGuire fan, The 'Rents (Lizzie McGuire #20) instantly transported me back to some of my favorite episodes from the show. These were the storylines I used to look forward to as a kid — the hilarious, awkward, and heartwarming moments between Lizzie and her wonderfully embarrassing (yet lovable) parents. Revisiting them in book form felt like catching up with old friends, and I found myself smiling through every chapter.

The nostalgia hit hard in the best way possible. The book perfectly captures the charm, humor, and relatable chaos of being a teenager with parents who somehow manage to be both mortifying and endearing at the same time. I loved how it stayed true to the tone of the show while adding little extra moments and inner thoughts from Lizzie that made it feel fresh and new even after all these years.

If you grew up with Lizzie McGuire, this book is like a warm hug from your childhood. It reminded me why I adored these episodes so much and made me want to rewatch the series all over again. It’s fun, lighthearted, and filled with that classic early-2000s Disney Channel magic. I’ll always have a soft spot for these stories, and this book just reaffirmed how timeless they really are.

Highly recommend for anyone craving a little nostalgic joy and a trip down memory lane with one of the most iconic teen sitcom characters ever. 💛✨
