Most people go through life unaware of the war between light and dark raging just beyond their field of vision. They live blissful, ordinary lives, but that is a luxury Taylor will never have. With a single birthday wish, she is thrown into a war between Eve's angels and Lilith's demons.
Bestowed with the magical ability to control light and adorned with the sight of supernatural races, Taylor is forced to fight for her own survival. Then Lucian, her shadowy protector, enters her life and heart. But there’s something dark inside of him: he’s a vampire, the original Dark One.
With her mother murdered and a hideous beast out for her blood, Taylor has no choice but to put her faith in Lucian and go to war as she tries to unravel the mystery of who she truly is.
Annalee Adams lives in England with her Husband, two children and a zoo worth of animals. She loves a good strong cup of tea or coffee, plenty of chocolate and binge watching her shows on Netflix.
Annalee began The Celestial Rose series while at University. She spent much of her childhood engrossed in fictional stories. Starting with teenage point horror books and moving up to the works of Stephen King and Dean Koontz. However, her all-time favourite book is Lewis Carroll's, Alice in Wonderland. Which explains her mindset quite well.

Not-so-secretly, I enjoy delving into YA books, if and when they do not come across as something too young. I prefer the older YA, often with less censoring and more realism. This book brings that. I am also not a fan of mushy and happy outcomes to every bad situation. In my perspective, bad things (especially the terrible things the protagonist deals with) leave a dark mark on a person (or multiple people). To ignore the darkness that builds behind every tragedy is unrealistic and difficult to relate to. Of course, readers can acknowledge that something filed with the supernatural is nowhere near realistic, it is the emotions that we seek to relate to, and that is here.
There are some familiar tropes to supernatural YA books, and yet, as each trope pops up, it is then transformed and reset to something different and new. There was a hint at a love triangle, but it is quickly swept aside and I applauded that move. Thank you! There is gore, there is sexually explicit content, but none of it is excessive or forced into the story. It fits with what is occurring. I think the author did a good job at balancing the world of a teenager being turned on its head, the emotions and hormones of being a teenager, and the atrocities she learns about and deals with.
There was one scene, toward the end, that really pulled at my heartstrings. The imagery used when there is a scene of tragedy or terror or any extreme situation is amazing. Even the more languid scenes, the flutter of leaves and the descriptions of the sky are beautiful. Language like this is rare in modern writings, and something I often only find when I go back to Poe or the more classical writers. I adore such descriptions and the author uses them beautifully.
In all, I really enjoyed this book. I hope there is more to this universe and story and can't wait to see where it can possibly go from here.
I fell in love with this cover as soon as I saw it. How could I not? It's absolutely gorgeous and reminds me of The Tether Saga book covers. I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but it's this cover that had me approaching the author. Luckily, she said sure and here we are!
The Good: Holy cow! This story will pick you up and not just carry you, but will sprint with you until the end. That doesn't mean that the story is even slightly rushed, but that once you start this book, you won't want to put it down until you've read every last word. In fact, I was up until 4 am because I kept saying, "Just one more chapter." until I ran out of chapters and then first thing this morning, I messaged Annalee thanking her for my lack of sleep.
The Bad: There were few problems with grammar and the like. Obviously it wasn't enough to make me stop reading because I'm still yawning. My brain is trained though to see these and so they jumped at me. I wouldn't let this stop me from reading this book again and again. Also, the ending felt a bit cliffhangerish which is something I don't like in books. However, I knew book 2 had already been released so I'm forgiving it...
The Summary: An incredible book that I'm hoping turns into an incredible series. I hope that the ending isn't what it appears to be but I'm not saying anything more than that because you really need to check it out for yourself.
Taylor Lane is denied the most simple pleasures of life from the moment she beholds the hooded man in the metro who isn’t there as a passenger. As one of three survivors in what the papers touted as a ‘terrorist’ attack, Taylor recognizes that far more evil forces are at work in the blast that kills her mother and destroys the train station. While the book seems like a teen-aged dystopian novel with matching dialogue, the plot is much more sophisticated. As I pondered the theme of the novel as I neared its completion, I settled upon how many of us, in conflict and battle, become those things they fear most and are fighting against. The book is really about choice and how one honors and fights for those people and ideas we really value. Taylor is forced to look into the mirror near the end of the novel and doesn’t like what she sees; one who is becoming a being just like the Shadelings. Will she have the strength to overcome her anger and grief? Thank goodness there are sequels to help answer this question! I truly enjoyed the plot development as well as the tormented heroine and look forward to reading the next installment of the series.
This was such a moving book. Even with the supernatural theme plot and characters, it is still about a young girl trying to find herself in a world that is unknown to her. Taylor was such a great, strong female character. She had to get over the tragedy of losing her mother on her 16th birthday and also deal with the fact that she knows now that the monsters in the shadows are not just a myth. She meets and falls in love with Lucian and they go through so much together. So much pain, fighting, sorrow, it is a wonder that they all remained sane. This is a heart wrenching story that I for one could not put down. I can not wait to read the next book to see how things are playing out.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I am all for a war between the light and the dark, but the sad and unfortunate truth is there is alway something or someone caught in the middle of this. This is a war between angels and demons. It is the eternal war that seems to have been going on since the beginning of time. Now Taylor is the one caught in the middle and it seems to do nothing but bring her pain, few answers and....a protector. That is all very intense and sexy. I was not sure how I would feel about this book when I first discovered it. But is made me want to pull for Taylor to find her place in all this with Luciens help. Ready for the next one.
A great book by author Annalee Adams. I loved this book so much. The story is very well written and the characters are very well developed. The author managed to catch my attention since page 1 and the way that the author narrates the scenes made me feel as I was there as a part of the story. I could't put this book down until finished. I definitively recommend this book to anyone.
She barely survived the attack which killed her mother. She now has powers which if found out by others could cause her even more problems. She has a vampire as a guardian. How will she get on? Will she be safe with him? What is going to happen to her? See what will happen

This is one of the best supernatural thrillers I've read in a while. The storyline absolutely keeps you on your toes and its a book you can't put down once you start it!! Annalee definitely got it just right with this one and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves this genre!!!
This was a wonderful introduction to the series. The characters are well defined and intriguing. The plot is full of drama and suspense. The beginning captured my attention and I could not put this book down. I look forward to reading the next book.
Definitely worth the read and looking forward to the next one... but that ending! What!
The story itself is great, liking the characters too.
A few niggles that prevented me from giving this book 5 stars. Note the book is still fantastic. At the beginning occasional use of random American words - unsure why when they aren't terms us Brits would use (British author and story) Some random words added in to expand a sentence that probably didn't need to to there or describing something with a word that means the same just fancier. Sometimes made the occasional sentence feel out of place and had to re-read.
Anyway, they are by all means just small niggles and in no way made me want to put the book down. Possible the fastest I've read a book I wanted to stay in the story.
DNF 66%. Was excited for a book to be set in England but it seemed that the author definitely was not from England. We don't call people jocks and not many schools have cheerleaders. The cars were mainly American, people didn't freak out and wonder why there was a wolf in England (we've not had wolves for centuries) so that was disappointing. There's a lot of scenes that remind me of twilight too, so I felt I was reading a twilight fanfiction. The first few chapters were confusing which could have been cleared up by an editor. After that though, the book became more enjoyable though it really does need a good edit. The descriptions were sometimes difficult to follow meaning I couldn't imagine what was being portrayed and I decided to give up because of this 66% in.

I tried very hard to enjoy this, and only finished because I personally am unable to leave books partially read. It could have been a 4 or 5 star for me, but the editing was lacking, and felt like someone ran a spell check service but didn't actually pay attention to it in detail. Also, the story didn't always flow consistently. There were points where the timeline of events was confusing, and the overall plot left me unimpressed. Perhaps I'll come back and attempt to continue the series, but with so many inconsistencies, it was hard to enjoy the story itself.
Oh my goodness, what a journey. Taylor most certainly had a full on two years, seeing the passing of her mother and having gone through so much hurt along the way. Annalee most definitely wasn't kind to her lead female, pushing her to her limits and then a little more.
Annalee is truly a talented author with a great way with words.

Wow what a book this was to read, I was fascinated on how this story line would develop and wow was I blown away with this. The character were incredible and really brought the book to life. This was the first book I've read by Annalee Adams and she didn't disappoint with this story line and if this book is anything to go by I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future.
