I received this book from the author im exchange of an honest review.

I really liked JT Lawrence narration style, the first story Panama Wings won me over since i'm from Panama, it was very interesting.

The old traveling slacks was fun too, I was surprised when I heard his story, he is a little crazy.

The next ones were pretty intriguing too, that's what I like most on these compilations they all have something for everyone.

The narrator made a good job telling these stories, I liked her voice.

I want to get first things first; Roshina Ratnam is like a super narrator. I will never, ever be able to listen to a South African book if she hasn't narrated it. She's flipping marvellous and deserves an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a £50 Marks and Spencer's voucher for her contribution to JT Lawrence's writing. They are the peaches and cream of audio books. Now, onto the short stories. I feel it only fair to point out that I HATE short stories, novellas and their ilk. I feel short changed, I always want more and end up frustrated. OK, this was no exception, I did want more, I'm just not sure my brain could have coped with it. JT Lawrence has, once again, totally messed with my head. Is this writer actually in league with psychiatrists? I swear, by the time I'd finished all 12 short stories I was no longer sure which way was up, where I lived, what the year was or even if I knew my own name. I mean, I know what people called me, but is that me or a different person altogether. I don't even trust the reflection in the mirror any more. (It definitely can't be me, it's some old hag staring back at me). I'm pretty sure my dogs are Russian spies and somebody is putting something in my tea. The postman looks shifty and are the children living in my house really my children? I almost wish you could get this audio book on vinyl, because if you played it backwards there's probably a subliminal message there. And, to add to all this mayhem, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! It may take me a week or so to get my equilibrium back, (and I'm always going to keep a close eye on the postman), but JT Lawrence has done it again! 5 big, fat juicy stars and 10mg diazepam from me! I'm off for a lie down!

Sticky Fingers Volume 2 by JT Lawrence is the first collection of stories I have read by this author. This collection has twelve short stories; they are all a bit weird or twisted but not in an in-your-face way. To appreciate these, there must be reader engagement; readers will, on occasion, be required to provide their own conclusions. It is helpful to note that this author lives in Johannesburg. To find out why this is helpful, read the short stories. A quick note about the title (my impression). Why “Sticky?” Because the stories will stick to your mind either as amazing or as an impression of something like “What did I just read? What was its purpose?” If the purpose was entertainment, great, this collection did that. I gave this five Amazon stars for the way it woke me up and broke a pattern in my usual reading routine.

1 Panama Wings Dwell on the idea that the Devil had something to do with this. He did, sort of, but in this story the “Devil” is only a name. This is a conventional story that surprised only the husband.

2 Gatsby’s Double Everything in in Richard’s world is the same … but different. Given the opportunity, he should ask Alice.

3 Astrid Rebecca was first pleased that Astrid liked the new school but then came the feeling that perhaps Astrid liked it too much. Was Samantha Dalton, a teacher, seducing Astrid away from Rebecca? Not quite. This is a great story about the power of suggestion.

4 GlobeTrotter69 Mr. Belafry, Globetrotter69, liked the Twin Palms resort and wanted to leave a review beyond the usual cookie-cutter comments. Here is an extended exchange of emails as a result of the initial review. The ending is sort of an expected surprise; we know the result, we just don’t know when or how it will appear.

5 Court, Marry, Kill Curtis loved Monica and Monica loved Curtis. After marriage, Curtis loved Monica too much and wanted exclusive control. Curtis eventually criticized everything about Monica down to the slovenly way she kept house. But Monica could clean up well when she wanted to.

6 Can We Light a Fire? Children who like to play with fire are acting out indicators of a potentially criminal future. When she burnt down her doll hose at age four, her parents thought it an accident. So was the bathroom fire at age six. What would it be fifteen years later?

7 He Did It You have to read this story to the end. Detective Denton was investigating the story of a cop, one of his mentees, possibly having gone rogue and been killed in the process. After a few twists and turns, Denton gets a glimpse into the abyss.

8 Alpha Lyrae With a subtitle like “A Robot Romance,” enough said.

9 Rockabye Baby The world of male patriarchy has been turned upside down.

10 Dasher It looks like Santa has only one list to look at this year. (Hint). It is not the one with the names of who has been nice. It looks like the only one nice is Nicholas himself. Even Mrs. Gramercy would like him if he would turn the music down.

11 Kakkerlak This story made me immensely sad. I lived in Vietnam with friends from South Africa. Their story was this story. I read this story in a few minutes. They told me this story over a period of two months. This is a very dark story.

12 The Brain Bleacher What if you could go to a doctor because you are sad, and the doctor could remove bad or sad experiences from your mind and replace them with happy or pleasant experiences? Keeping in mind that we do not exist as self in a vacuum and that there must be some interaction with others for all of us, can you think of any ethical problems that might become prominent? JT Lawrence can.

I purchased this collection for USD 0.99; it is a reading experience worth more than that. I look forward to reading Volume 1 and any that follow Volume 2.

I'd like to first advise that you read Sticky Fingers 1 (if you haven't done so)

Here are some thoughts about this batch of stories...
Transported aboard Panama Wings to begin a new life elsewhere - is it that simple though? Love the neat plot twist.
Is Gatsby's Double real, a hallucination or an impostor whose appearance is as a result of taking the pills, or not taking the pills? Quite the dilemma.
Coping mechanisms manifest as a result of deep trauma, and Astrid's mother reaches out in desperation and confusion.
Globetrotters evoked deja vu and then the light-bulb moment... and, as anticipated, it had me in stitches!
Guess whose body lands up at the bottom of the ocean in Court, Marry, Kill?
In Can We Light A Fire, a closet pyromaniac channels her childhood obsession into adulthood.
He Did It is a tale of corruption within the law... will justice prevail at the end?
Alph Lyrae - virtual reality and real life come together...
What happens to male infants in the female-only world of Rockabye Baby?
In the festive tale Dasher, Santa Claus makes a choice: freedom or ongoing drudgery?
Kakkerlak - with this story my brain refused to function and all I could imagine was thousands of the flying variety of these creatures.
The Brain Bleacher wipes the slate clean and gives patients an opportunity to start over again, minus the painful memories... idyllic... or is it?

Another wonderful collection!

This is the second installment of short stories by Lawrence that I have listened to, and, as with the first installment, I have thoroughly enjoyed this. Different narrator but done well: Ratnam has a lovely voice which suits these stories well and really brought them to life. I made some notes on each story as I listened to them (not necessarily a review on each story, more my musings as the audio progressed), I'll add a a spoiler however for fear of ruining some of the twists.

Overall, a fun collection of dark and quirky stories.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request via Audioboom and have voluntarily left this review.

Continuing in the tradition of Sticky Fingers, JT Lawrence brings us volume two in what is at this point a three volume series of short stories. There are twelve stories in each and I loved these books! I really enjoy short stories, especially when they are well written. There is something for everyone if you like short stories that have a twist to them. Just be prepared for when the story is over that you may want it to continue!
Not all the stories were not for me, at no fault to the author. Some of the stories just did not work for me, but not everything written will please everyone. JT Lawrence really has a talent with her short stories! I will write ‘mini-reviews’ on some of the stories:

Panama Wings:
A Missing woman and a missing plane. What’s the connection? It’s not what you expect and neither was that ending.

Astrid:
This one really gripped me. I figured the twist out fairly quickly, but the journey of getting there with our narrator… OMG!

GlobeTrotter69:
Here we go again with the reviews of a hotel stay! I love it!!!!

Court, Marry, Kill:
This one was difficult to listen to, but had a satisfying ending: I loved it!

Alpha Lyrae:
A robot love story: I needed more to this one. Maybe Lawrence will expand on this world! (And I am selective with my sci-fi stories…)

Rockabye Baby:
A female only cult: That is all you need to say and I am there reading it! I find cults fascinating and this had a Handmaid’s Tale feel to it for me (I have not read Handmaid’s Tale and only watched the first episode of the show, but it had the same type feeling for me.)

Brain Bleacher:
I loved this concept and I need more!

Another weird and wonderful collection from JT Lawrence.

As with all collections of short stories, some will speak to some readers more than others. And that's true for me too.

I really loved some of these stories - I loved Gatsy's Double and the reality of that kind of situation (no spoilers - go read it yourself) haunts me still. Similarly I found Astrid wonderfully disturbing and frightening, and Globetrotter69 had me giggling. Rockabye Baby had me shuddering with the same emotions The Handmaiden's Tale did and Court, Marry Kill saw me gleefully rubbing my hands together.

Others I felt read a bit like chapters from another book, unmoored and without context. But I have read comments from other readers absolutely loving those stories.

A collection of short stories is a brave thing for an author to do because you cannot please everyone all the time and presenting more than one story will always leave some readers more pleased than others.

Over all, however, this is a wonderful collection and each story is so well crafted that even if the narrative doesn't grasp you entirely, the way the tale is told will.

Lawrence has a keen observation skill and I love wandering along with her in her world where the afternoon sun is syrup coloured and dead skin is unzipped by hungry fish.

A collection worth buying and reading. And for me, in some cases, rereading.

Average rating: 3.8 stars

1. Panama Wings - 3 stars - Just too short but a clever plot.
2. Gatsby's Double - 4 stars - Intense!
3. Astrid - 4 stars - Kind of saw where it was going.
4. Globetrotter69 - 3.5 stars - Didn't see the twist coming
5. Court, Marry, Kill - 5 stars - That was brilliant!
6. Can We Light a Fire? - 4.5 stars - Clever. Didn't see that coming.
7. He Did It - 3 stars - This was like the opening chapter of a really good crime novel. Unfortunately, it ended like an opening chapter so left me unfulfilled.
8. Alpha Lyrae - 3 stars - Also ended suddenly. This is why I'm not a fan of short stories.
9. Rockabye Baby - 4 stars - I saw the end coming. Would have liked to have known more of the back story.
10. Dasher - 4.5 stars - A feel good Christmas story.
11. Kakkerlak - 3 stars - Very dark and a bit close to home. Not my cup of tea.
12. The Brain Bleacher - 4.5 stars - Jarring ending. Interesting ideas.

This is the second collection of short stories I’ve read by JT Lawrence. Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this one as much as her first Sticky Fingers book that I read back in June. A few of the 12 stories left me feeling confused, like I was missing the point. Others were left too open at the end and felt incomplete.

Despite the fact that I didn’t find some of the stories to be entertaining or twisted at all, there were a few gems in there, namely: Gatsby’s Double, Astrid, Rockabye Baby and The Brain Bleacher.

Amazing

I enjoyed reading this book. The characters, the plots and the story lines. I couldn't get enough of the shocking endings of the stories.

I enjoyed the first book but this one was naff. None of the stories really had any substance and the "twists" were predicable. 2*

I am writing this review based off the listening of my free Audible copy, provided by the author. Another awesome short story collection, just as dark as the first! And I really enjoyed how the author built on stories from the first collection. The vacation reviewer story was funny in the first volume, but he was absolutely hilarious in the second! I laughed through the whole story. I loved trying to predict the twist in each story, not that I’m very good at it, I just enjoy doing it. I think my favorites in this bunch were Astrid, about the mother who puts her daughter in daycare for the first time, Dasher, cuz I hate kids and people (:D), and Court, Marry, Kill, because I love vigilante justice! The Sticky Fingers compilations are pretty much the only short story collections that I’ll read, and I really like them a lot! The only reason I gave this collection 4 stars is because one of the stories is from the When Tomorrow Calls series, and I had already read it. I absolutely recommend this collection to anyone looking for a chilling, interesting read

I thoroughly enjoyed the first collection of short stories, craving more the whole time. When I heard that there is a new collection I placed my order and kept willing Lawrence the finish quickly. I was not disappointed. It is fully loaded with stories that are beautifully written and even some that left me thirsting for a full novel.

There is a little of everything, stories that will creep you out, that will make you laugh and even some that will make you doubt your reality.

Of course, no reader can say that when reading these collections, that they can’t pick a favourite. There are some of these stories that will stay with me and I will reread them. If you read the previous collection of short stories there is even an old favourite that will make a reappearance and leave you with a stitch in your side from laughing.

A fun little read. As with the first installment I liked some stories more than others but there is something here for everyone. Creepy, fun, surprising, clever.

Nice to see the rogue hotel reviewer back for another online showdown too!

I received a copy of this audiobook anthology through audiobookboom (which is amazing and everyone should check it out). I was not compensated for this review. Everything that you read is my opinion and mine alone.

I have been in the need for a mind twist for a while. What was great about this audiobook was that each story set itself apart from the rest. Each one grabbed the reader and took them on a journey. Sometimes I got the twist before it happened, but most of the time I was excited to find out I was wrong.

I'm not from South Africa, but this anthology's setting doesn't push the reader to know anything about the country, the cultures in the country, or the people (though now I am interested to know more than what my past World History courses have taught me). What the anthology asks of the reader is to immerse themselves into the characters, to feel and to witness what is unfolding or is about to unfold, and, most importantly, to wonder what will happen next.

The narrator, I feel, was well placed. Her voice is melodic and pulls in the reader. When she is reading an especially odd story, you can't help but be pulled even if the story itself isn't the best.

It is here I should mention that out of the twelve stories, I didn't really care for two of them. But, that was just the content of the story and not the writing style or narration. It just wasn't my cup of tea at that moment.

In all, this anthology was good. I would read more from J.T. Lawrence and am wondering what I should read next from this author.

Final Rating: 4/5

Review originally published at:https://www.lomeraniel.com/audiobookr...

I’m not a short story kind of reader, but after loving the first book I needed to listen to the second part, and I have to say that I love it as much as the first book. Janita surprises us again with an explosion of creativity, charismatic characters, and very special plots.

Some stories are an answer to stories in the first book. I enjoyed meeting the hotel reviewer again, and also the detective with his imaginary friend. Rockabye Baby reminded me a lot of the world in When Tomorrow Calls, and The Brain Bleacher could just be the gist of a greater story. These twelve stories tickled my imagination like sparks on a dark night.

This time it’s Roshina Ratnam who narrates the book. I like the previous narrator, but meeting Ratnam again was a pleasant surprise. She is also the narrator of the When Tomorrow Calls series, and I have to say that I love her powerful style. She transports the listener to far away worlds and traps you with her distinctive voice. Her character interpretations are top notch, and especially enjoyed how she pronounced ‘kakkerlak’. I speak a bit of Dutch, so it’s always nice how Dutch words are pronounced in other parts of the world.

There is yet another book with twelve more short stories. I’m impatient to listen to those.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I desperately wanted to read a book but I know that my attention span has been horribly short lately. And then I found this on my Kindle app and knew it was a winner.
J.T Lawrence has a wonderfully entertaining writing style but the "Sticky Fingers" collection is one of my favorites because of how unexpected and unusual the stories are.
I figured this would be easier to read than a novel and I was right. I finished this book in one sitting and was left wanting more (a rather unfortunate side-effect of this collection).
I do not want to binge read because at some point I will then run of books to read but I cannot wait to start another "Sticky Fingers" book.
This series is well-written, gripping and entertaining. If you're looking for a good book, need to fall back into the habit of reading or just want to escape reality, this is the series for you!
You could pick up any of these books and they will do a great job pulling you in.

"The colour of new beginnings. "
Sticky Fingers is more than a collection of short stories. It is a coming together of a small group of individuals, each with some strange quirk which the author brings vividly to life for the reader. Not necessarily always likable, each is, however, interesting and well worth getting to know. It is a remarkable experience.
The titles included, in order of presentation, are:-
Panama Wings
Gadsby's Double
Astrid
Globe Trotter '69as
Caught, Marry, Kill
Can we light a fire?
He Did It.
Alpha power
Rockabye Baby
Dasher
Cuckerluck
Brain Bleacher
Each story is read, in this second series, by Toshiba Rotnam, her voice crystal clear, pleasant on the ear and delivered with perfect adherence to the text. A lovely performance.

Definitely recommended

This is the seventh book I’ve read/listened to by this author. I listened to Sticky Fingers (book 1) and it was great. This one is just as good. I love the vast array of stories. Each one is different.

This is the fourth book I’ve listened to by this narrator (Roshina Ratnam) and I would gladly listen to another. I love her accent and narration style. She does “scared/apprehensive” well. She reads each story a bit differently to suit the content.

There are no explicit sex scenes, or excessive violence and I don’t recall swearing.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.

A collection of twelve short stories. I liked the variety of subjects although some of the stories weren’t very memorable. My favorite was one that started off with a five star review of a vacation spot. It was told through the exchange of e-mails where a guy was very happy with his stay until the hotel staff answered and mentioned some of his bad behaviors. Next thing you know he’s deducting stars for the ocean being too cold and the beach being too sandy. One frustrating thing of the book was that most of the stories didn’t really end with any kind of satisfaction. They just kind of trailed off into some unknown kind of…

An interesting collection of twelve stories. All of them are wildly suspenseful and offer intriguing twists at the end. I love when I can’t predict where a story was going. With this collection, I went 0/12.

My personal favorite story was Gatsby’s Double. To me it was almost as if the narrator of the story was someone suffering from schizophrenia which made it an interesting change of pace of MCs.

If you’re looking for something dark and twisted, this collection is perfect. Easy to listen to in one sitting.

As always I start with the fact I was given this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review. And I am honest, I get really excited when the review opps for JTL come up. I'm a big fan of short stories in general and these didn't disappoint. I'm getting more used to the way her mind works but while I'm busy looking out for the twist a different one smacks me in the face 😆. Lovely to visit a familiar character from her novels in one of the stories. Lovely to have Roshina Ratnam narrating, I was disappointed on another that wasn't her.
More please.

Another great collection of short stories by JT Lawrence.

I got to listen to the Audio version, for which I would give the narration 5/5 stars. I had listened to one of JT Lawrences other audio books (which was an exceptionally brilliant book) but the narration by a non South African just didn't works as well as it should have at some places. This narration by Roshina Ratnam though was perfect.

Sticky Fingers 2: Another 12 Twisted Short Stories (Sticky Fingers Collection) by J.T. Lawrence was a great read. It consisted of twelve great short stories by the author. Panama Wings; Gatsby’s Double; Astrid; GlobeTrotter69; Court Marry Kill; Can We Light a Fire?; He Did It; Alpha Lyrae; Rockabye Baby; Dasher; Kakkerlak and The Brain Bleacher. I loved reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Just like the first in the series, Sticky Fingers 2 is great. A wonderful collection of short stories that filled me with both delight and unease. Short stories can be tricky to write well, but JT Lawrence puts together some really awesome tales in these little bite-sized pieces. I loved The Brain Bleacher. It was fantastic.

Worthless reading. Each story falls short of providing anything of worth, even if its just excitement to continue to the next paragraph. Held out throughout to catch a glimpse of interest. The writing was good though and some of the stories had potential to become something, however I think this book is less than short story, rather than meaningless writing for the sake. I'd get to the end of a story and think " what did I just read". Frustrating.

Loved reading the short stories in Sticky Fingers 2, although I found myself a little confused with one as at first I thought one from the first series had sneaked in. I loved the ending as the twist brought the story from the first Sticky Fingers to a great ending. The other stories were brilliantly written as I really enjoyed the last one. Looking forward to reading Sticky Fingers 3!

Not as good as the first volume. A couple stories felt more like the beginnings of a longer story that the author just decided to stop writing, tacking on an open ending. Really unsatisfying open endings at that.
