5 BADASS-VIRGIN Stars!!!!!

Skye….Skye!!!.....SKYE!!!!!!!!! I have read a lot of Skye Warren books, and this is my top fave!!!! I have been a fangirl of Skye for a long time, and I always enjoy her books. She is one of the best dark romance writers, in my opinion, and she has outdone herself with this book! All of the feels! The plot is just genius. This story has been written before, but not Skye Warren. When Skye writes it, it’s just better.

This is the type of book where the only reason you put your kindle down is to jump up and down because the characters said or did something so badass that you can’t help but fangirl in the moment.

à la Mode St. » fashion

I look up at him, searching his eyes for some hint of kindness, of mercy. There’s none. I find only fire – and the thought that comes next makes me shudder: this is vengeance. It’s not a feeling he’s had, a fleeting thought for revenge. This what he’s made of, cell by cell, atom by atom. He’s pure fury, and he’s coming for me.

à la Mode St. » fashion

My Gabriel & Avery:

 :

Avery has grown up with everything she could ever ask for. After a terrible scandal with her father’s company, she and her father are left with close to nothing. In order to do anything she can to save her house and care for her father, Avery goes to the one man who might give her a loan. Little does she know that she will meet the man who ruined her father and give her a proposal that she cannot refuse in order to save her house and her father’s life.

à la Mode St. » fashion

”Can you at least look at me after I suck your dick?”

à la Mode St. » fashion

Avery is a virgin…..A BADASS VIRGIN. This girl stands her ground. She may be naïve but she has got balls of steel! She gives back as good as she gets with Gabriel and I was rooting for her the whole time. She only has herself to depend on, but she doesn’t need anyone else because she does it all. She is willing to sacrifice everything to do the right thing.

…this man of precious metal and revenge, of carved wood and heartache.

GABRIEL.That’s it. Just his name sends shivers down my body. Gabriel is mine. Seriously. Back up, ladies! I know Lana wants to claim him, but NOPE! I refuse. He is ALL MINE, whore! He is a Grade A – Ass….Hole. My kinda man. He treats Avery with nothing less than disdain. She is the daughter of the man that cheated him, and he is willing to put her through hell and humiliation to get his pleasure. I loved the glimpses of compassion in his character, but he inevitably shows his true colors and is true to his inner asshole.

à la Mode St. » fashion

"Here’s the thing about owning a virgin. For as long as I don’t fuck you, I still own one."

à la Mode St. » fashion

I can’t say much about the plot without spoiling, but I will say I could not put this book down. It was emotional and fast-paced and intriguing, and I want more! This book is beautiful and broken and genius.

This Anthilogy has some great names. I loved Mastering Her Senses and The Pawn. Here is my review from The Pawn:

Skye Warren is my go to dark/anti-hero author. SHE CAN DO NO WRONG in my eyes. So when I heard she was starting a new series I JUMPED at the chance to read this. This novel opens up with a bang where Avery James is forced to make a deeply personal and desperate decision to auction off her virginity in order to save her father. Loyal to a fault, and despite his fall from grace, she takes it upon herself to save her family. But who is the lucky purchaser? Only the powerful businessman who might have played a pivotal role in the destruction of her family - Gabriel Miller

I love these type of stories because you have the deeply mysterious and dangerous hero who needs and wants something from the innocent heroine. Who is Gabriel Miller? He is dark and scary and so sexy. He is also a complete enigma. You never know which man Avery would get. Is he a criminal? Yes. Is he dangerous? Yes. But is he truly "bad"? Is he irredeemable? Those are the questions that need to be answered. At times he was cruel and yet at times he was so protective of Avery, you were left unsure as to what was going to happen.

Just to appease my own inner (screaming) fangirl, can I just add that I about died and swooned over the fact during one of their initial meetigs, he saved her from an accident and his brief touch and his striking eyes just stayed with her. I think my heart might've thumped out of my chest.

And the cherry on top? Skye Warren's ability to write strong, feisty and resilient heroines. What I loved about Avery was the fact that despite being in distress, she was no damsel. Nor was she a doormat. She was a level headed young girl forced on a path she didn't see coming in order to make things right. But unbeknownst to her, this would be at a cost to her own heart and emotions as she realizes not everything is black and white and secrets come out that not only damn her but all she holds to be true. 4.5 "I am slowly DYING for the next book" Stars.

Review of The Pawn by Skye Warren.

After I seen the blurb for this I had to read it! It just really intrigued me and I knew I was either going to love or hate it. This is a darker romance book but I loved it!! Haha. Gabriel is kind of an asshole at some parts but you’ll start to understand him more in the other books. Parts of the book are heartbreaking and I really felt bad for Avery but I couldn’t stop reading it! You couldn’t deny the chemistry between them! It leaves off on a cliffhanger but at least the series is finished!

This is such a great collection of books! It has a few of my favorite authors and some new ones to try! I’ve actually read Spin by CD Reiss too but it’s been so long that I need to reread it! Haha. I can’t wait to read all the other books!

*I received an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own! :)

Diamonds by KA Linde
Filthy Wicked Love by Lili Valente
Mastering Her Senses by Laura Kaye
Personal Geography by Tamsen Parker
Spin by CD Reiss
The Pawn by Skye Warren
Willing Victim by Cara McKenna
The Prince & The Player by Tia Louise

I've already read a couple of the stories and I'll update this review as I read the rest.

Mastering Her Senses - Laura Kaye - 4.5 stars

After a horrible accident a couple of years ago Cassia is petrified of the dark and it's affecting her life in all kinds of negative ways, even down to stopping her from doing the job she has always loved. Desperate to overcome her fears she turns to Blasphemy, the club she used to be a member in the hope of working through her fears with the help of a Dom. Quinton is the club's expert when it comes to sensory deprivation and when he sees how much Cassia is struggling because of her phobia he becomes determined to help her get past her issues.

I knew I was going to love Quinton after his appearances in the previous books in the series but I fell for him even harder than I expected to. He's the perfect combination of in control alpha in the bedroom and fun loving guy outside of it. He's a bit of an adrenaline junkie and loves to push his limits in all kinds of ways and that is just what Cassia needed. I love that the characters in this series are able to use their kink to help them deal with other issues but that Laura Kaye never uses sex as an easy answer to all their problems. Quinton uses pleasure to change Cassia's perception of the dark and it works brilliantly but it doesn't magically take her fears away and that's something she'll have to keep working on.

Mastering Her Senses has some incredibly hot scenes (probably some of the hottest from the series so far!) but we also get to see Quinton and Cassia spend time together outside of the bedroom at the Raven Rider's race track with Cassia's brother Jagger (who will hopefully get a book in the other series). I loved every minute of this story and I thought both of the characters were brilliant but if anything I would have loved to spend a little more time with them. I think if we could have had a couple more chapters their romance would have felt a little less rushed. Don't get me wrong these two are perfect for each other and I loved the way Quinton cared for Cassia but their HEA came a little quickly, it was totally believable but could have been even better if it had taken a little longer. This was definitely my favourite book in the series though and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

Willing Victim - Cara McKenna - 3 stars

I just realised I never actually wrote a review for this one but I remember being a bit disappointed by it. I usually love Cara McKenna's books but this one just didn't work for me. It wasn't so much Flynn's kink that bothered me (I've read other books where willing participants play out rape fantasies and even though it's not a kink I share I still enjoyed the stories) but I didn't find Laurel's introduction to Flynn's fantasies very realistic. There was a pretty cold and clinical scene where Flynn invites Laurel back to his place to watch him play out his fantasy with another woman & I just thought that was weird.

This was definitely a case of it not being the right book for me but I would highly recommend Unbound, Hard Time & Way Down Deep by this author.

NOTE: My review is for MASTERING HER SENSES by Laura Kaye

MASTERING HER SENSES (Blasphemy #2) by Laura Kaye

4 stars--

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 21, 2017

He wants to dominate her senses—and her heart…

Quinton Ross has always been a thrill-seeker—so it’s no surprise that he’s drawn to extremes in the bedroom and at his BDSM club, Blasphemy, where he creates sense-depriving scenarios that blow submissives’ minds. Now if he could just find one who needs the rush as much as him…

Cassia Locke hasn’t played at Blasphemy since a caving accident left her with a paralyzing fear of the dark. Ready to fight, she knows just who to ask for help—the hard-bodied, funny-as-hell Dom she’d always crushed on—and once stood up.

Quinton is shocked and a little leery to see Cassia, but he can’t pass up the chance to dominate the alluring little sub this time. Introducing her to sensory deprivation becomes his new favorite obsession, and watching her fight fear is its own thrill. But when doubt threatens to send her running again, Quinton must find a way to master her senses—and her heart.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: MASTERING HER SENSES is the second full length installment in Laura Kaye’s contemporary, adult BLASPHEMY erotic, BDSM, romance series focusing on the exclusive BDSM club Blasphemy. This is Blasphemy co-owner and Master Quinton Ross, and geologist Cassia Locke’s story line. MASTERING HER SENSES can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. There is a slight cross over with Laura’s Raven Riders MC series. Cassia is the sister to Raven Rider’s member Jackson ‘Jagger’ Locke.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Cassia and Quinton) MASTERING HER SENSES follows the building relationship between Blasphemy co-owner and Master Quinton Ross, and geologist/submissive Cassia Locke. Years earlier, geologist Cassia Locke had been a submissive at Club Blasphemy but a work-place accident left our heroine with a panic disorder leaving her afraid of the dark. Upon her return to Blasphemy Cassia will encounter her former Master Quinton Ross who offers our heroine a ‘no-strings attached’ relationship to help her overcome her fear of the dark. A specialist in ‘sensory depravation’ kink Quinton will gain Cassia’s trust enabling her to slowly overcome the dark and frightening memories of the past. What ensues is the rekindling relationship and building romance between Cassia and Quinton, and Quinton’s realization that he wants more from Cassia than a Dom/sub relationship.

The world building focuses on the BDSM lifestyle: the Dom/sub relationships, the backrooms, the rules, the regulations and the people who like to play the scenes. There is very little story line conflict between our leading couple but for a case of mistaken belief that forces Cassia to second guess her relationship with Quinton Ross. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense but I do have an issue with authors who use a particular word in their erotic, romance story lines-in my opinion it is unnecessary and cheapens the overall feel of the story.

Kenna Sloane and Master Griffin Hudson (Bound to Submit #1) play secondary and supporting roles, as well as the introduction of Cassia’s brother Raven Rider MC member Jackson ‘Jagger’ Locke, and Master Wolf Henrikson whose story will be told next in the 1001 Dark Nights novella Eyes on You (July 2017).

MASTERING HER SENSES is a quick read; an erotic tale; a romantic story about one woman’s struggle to move on from the past, and one man’s belief in the woman with whom he is falling in love. The premise is emotional and dramatic; the romance is seductive and compelling; the characters are colorful, intelligent and spirited. MASTERING HER SENSES is a great addition to Laura Kaye’s BLASPHEMY series.

Mastering Her Senses - Laura Kaye, first time reading something by this author. Cassia had an incident, now shes afraid of the dark. Quinton owner of Blasphemy a BDSM club. Helps her with that. This book had a twist and turn you didn't see coming. This was a good read.

Pawn - Skye Warren, I absolutely loved this book. Avery is determined to save her father who has fraud charges against him and her house. She visits Damon a loan shark. It's determined they will auction her virginity. Gabriel, gets her. Little does she know he has several hidden agenda. This book for sure has a cliffhanger. Cannot wait to see what the next books in this series has in store for Avery/Gabriel.

Willing Victim - Cara McKenna, this is the first time to read anything by this author. This was a good book. Flynn is a boxer, who is into role playing. Laurel ask him for lunch. He invites her to his fight. Shes into him, he wants no relationship. Can she change his mind.

Assumption - Aurora Rose Reynolds, this is my first time reading something by this author. Autumn works at the Lion's Den in Vegas. While at work she witnesses four people shot. She's shipped off to Nashville. Links friend Kenton takes her in. He thinks shes a stripper. Not until an incident happens that he ends up at the hospital he finds out shes a nurse. This book had several twist and turns. Kenyon/Autumn had me laughing several times. This is a book worth reading.

Personal Geography - Tamsen Parker, is a new author to me. India is a take charge chick. She works with the housing authority. Cris wants a sub. This book had several twist and turns. It does end with a cliffhanger.

Spin -CD Reiss, first time reading something by this author. Theresa still trying to get over her ex Faniel. It is kinda hard to do that when theres trouble with her family. This book ends in a cliffhanger.

A Week In New York - Louise Bay, first time reading something by this author. Anna has relationship problems. So what better way to get oover things. Go to New York. She meets Ethan, who doesn't want a relationship. Will these two do away with previous issues and take things to the next level.

Filthy Wicked Love - Louise Bay, is a new author
to me. Harley is on the run. With her son. Clay only
wants his son. This book had several twist and turns. It is worth reading.

Diamonds - K.A. Linde, is a new author to me. I really liked this book. Bryna/Jude both have secrets and have told lies. This book has several twist and turns. Its worth reading.

The Prince and The Player - Tia Louise, is a new
author to me. In this book we read about Zelda and Rowan. This book had several twist and turns.

While I would give one book in this collection 5 stars (and have elsewhere) overall this collection clearly wasn't for me.

book 1 - Mastering Her Senses by Laura Kaye
This was brilliant. I've reviewed it separately and given it 5 stars there, so check the individual listing for more. I'm also checking out the authors other books, and have already grabbed a couple more from the series this book is a part of.

book 2 - The Pawn by Skye Warren
Sadly this was written in first person POV (a writing style I actively dislike), and is only part one of a series about the one couple, so no resolution expected within the featured story. As a result I didn't even bother with it.

book 3 - Willing Victim by Cara McKenna
Part one again, so I would need to buy another book (and maybe more later) to get the whole story. Again, I didn't read this.

book 4 - Assumption by Aurora Rose Reynolds
Another first person POV so again I didn't bother with it.

book 5 - Personal Geography by Tamsen Parker
First person POV yet again, also is again part one and NOT a stand alone. So again, I didn't read it.

book 6 - Spin by CD Reiss
Yet another first person POV, so I didn't even check if it was a stand alone.

book 7 - A Week In New York by Louise Bay
Another first person POV. I'm starting to see a pattern here, and wondering if I should just give up. As you can no doubt guess, I didn't read it.

book 8 - Filthy Wicked Love by Lili Valente
This is part two of four, all about the same couple. While part one is currently free, I would still need to buy two more books to get the full story. So yet again I didn't bother reading this.

book 9 - Diamonds by K.A. Linde
Part one again, so to get the whole story I'd need to buy the next book. Again, I didn't bother.

book 10 - The Prince & The Player by Tia Louise
First person POV. AGAIN.

So, overall.....If you like first person POV's then by all means check out this collection, as it may well appeal to you, though beware that in most cases you're probably looking at needing to buy more books to get the whole story.

If, like me, first person doesn't work for you, steer clear. Though you should DEFINITELY check out Mastering Her Senses by Laura Kaye, and the rest of the series it belongs to. And thankfully, while that is part of a series, it CAN be read as a stand alone, as can the others in the series. I know, because I'm already reading them :)

Filthy Wicked Love is the second serial in the Kidnapped by a Billionaire series. It is also a spin-off of the Bought by a Billionaire Series. You can easily read this series without the other but I do recommend reading both since they are hot, twisted and addicting. Now, back to Clay and Harley's wickedly sexy story.

Filthy Wicked Love continues where Dirty Twisted Love ended, with Harley trapped with the ex that she never thought she would see again. He wants what she is not willing to give up. Their son. Clay's mind is set on revenge because of all the lies and torture she put him and his best friend through. But, his body is telling a different story, it wants Harley so much that it hurts. And he knows that she is feeling the exact same way so let the games begin...

Clay and Harley feel the hate between them but they also feel the desire. The heat. The want. Clay and Harley know to use this their advantage. Harley needs to get to their son before her drug lord boss discovers she even has one and Clay needs to know where Harley is hiding him so he can take what is his and to also keep him safe. Will their wicked games get in the way of their son's safety? Can they let go of the past and work together? Or if they had the chance to kill the other, will they?

This story is hot! There is a fine line between love and hate when it comes to Clay and Harley. They want to hate each other but they also want to fuck each other until they are sated. But, it's just not the two of them in this equation, they have to fight for their son but that always means their needs to be trust which is not easy with either of them. Who do you think will win this round in their twisted game?

Quotes:

Sexy as the devil and twice as sweet, twice as sweet…

No matter how crazy she made him, her will power was completely fucking impressive.

“What’s next, boss man?” she asked.
“Since you seem to get off on being in charge.”

The Pawn is a seductive enticing read any romance reader will enjoy.

What first attracted me to this book is the blurb. A virgin auctioning herself to help pay for her father’s medical expenses. Yes please!

Avery was a rich girl, but now she is poor and everyone that once was her friend had turned thier backs in her even her boyfriend. Now she only has her father, who is practically on his death bed. The only thing she has left is the house her father built for her mother. With Evrey in need of money she is desprate and will do anything to keep that house and keep her father comfortable.

The only thing she has left of value is her virginity. You can’t help but feel sorry for Avery. Her father did alot of shady deals and now Avery being the good girl she is, trying to save her house and her father has to pay the price, but at what cost?

Gabriel is very rich, and he didn’t expect to bid on Avery, but there’s something about her that he has to have. Gabriel just doesn’t want Avery’s virginity, but he he wants her mind, body and soul. Gabriel is ruthless at times but you also saw a softer side of him too.

The chemistry between Gabriel and Avery was out of this world. The thing I really enjoyed about this book is that Gabriel kept Avery guessing, wondering, and even pining after him. I loved the back and fourth between the two of then and had me glued to the book wanting to know what was going to happen next.

I was shocked that Gabriel had a hand in Avery’s current situation. We don’t know the exact reason. There’s plenty of drama with her crazy so called Uncle and her father’s health situation. It was enough to keep me on my toes and wanting to know what was going to happen.

Here is my review for The Pawn by Skye Warren.

You get a certain idea of a book in your head from reading the blurb, so of course I knew kind of what to expect... But the delivery was something else on this one. I always feel like I over-gush when I read books by Skye Warren, but I'm genuinely blown away each and every time.

Avery is broke and desperate with no options left until she goes to see a loan shark and gets an offer to auction off her virginity instead. We meet Gabriel early on and there should be nothing remotely redeeming about him, but in true dark romance style, of course we're drawn to him. He's dark, feral, mysterious and he offers crumbs of kindness that Avery so desperately craves.

I loved the raw honesty between the characters. I think ultimately it made me feel that much more sharply the moment when Avery, after feeling like she may have finally figured things out, gets the rug ripped out from under her all over again.

And the surprise cameo from past Stripped characters was so cool.

I'm a bit sad to have to wait to have some answers, but the hangover was worth it.

A set with ten books by different authors, romance (?) with a touch of violence, BDSM, etc. Of these ten, I liked two, about four were okay, and the rest was just horrible.
For the most part, although there were kind of plots, the stories were not plausible, the characters weak and unrealistic, and I will not even start with narration styles.
Add to that that at least half of the stories ended on cliffhangers, so the reader did not even have the satisfaction of a finished and completed story. I love series, but I either prefer them when each book can be read on its own, with a finished storyline, or when I know beforehand that this is ongoing and will not be "solved" until the last book has been published. Most authors of this type of series will at least put a warning in the first book.
The positive things in this boxed set were that a) I found two new authors I might get more books from, and b) this was one of these special offers on amazon and I did not have to pay for the books.

Awesome Anthology
Ten authors share their first books in their series. So many choices!
My review of Skye Warren’s The Pawn
Wow! Game on!
I love this book! The story had me wanting to know more about Avery and Gabriel. I couldn't put it down! For me the book was a fast read but a very interesting one.
There's a some intrigue, suspense, and some sex. It's a dark story between Avery and Gabriel and just when you think it all is going to work out well cliffhanger so you have to have the next book ready! This is book 1 in a 3 book series. This isn't your typical boy meets girl and fall in love type of story! There some back story for both Gabriel and Avery that they will have to overcome to possibly be together no guarantees in this book of an HEA. Love Skye Warren's writing. Its dark and twisty and just when you think you have it all figured out she puts in another twist! Definitely recommend this book!

So many good books in this anthology...
Skye Warren...The Pawn
Skye..my heart is just broken for them...the ending was shattering. I cried...

I felt like I was on a caffeine high the entire time I was reading this story...there's an electric energy pulsing just under the surface of "everything is not as it seems".

Gabriel...gah, Gabriel, he wants to own Avery, he wants to protect her, he wants to tell her everything, the story vibrates with his need, but I think she's right when she tells him, he's scared. He's scared that once she knows what he knows, she really will be broken and he doesn't want that for her so, he pushes her away, almost like he needs her to hate him. I don't know, I may be completely off base with my analysis, but lord have mercy this series is going to break me!

Huge book hangover for Skye Warren fans...you do not want to pass up this series!

The Pawn is the first book I’ve ever read by Skye Warren and what a way to pop my cherry! Skye Warren is such a talented author, I don’t know how I went so long without reading her books. She is now one of my favorite authors! The Pawn is a thrilling and magnificent start to Gabriel’s and Avery’s trilogy.

Avery is such a resourceful and strong willed character. Willing to do whatever it takes to tale care of her family, even sacrifice the most delicate part of herself. Gabriel is one powerful dose of alpha-male. Their battle of wills is explosive and their chemistry is off the charts and super intoxicating.

The Pawn is just one of ten AMAZING stories you’ll get a chance to experience when reading A Love Thing.

'A love thing' is 10 brilliant authors with a wide range of different stories to keep you immersed in the book. But one thing is the same for all the stories and that is the Alphas are pure perfection!!!! My favourite was 'The Pawn' by Skye Warren, it's a dark romance about mind games, deceit, seduction and all consuming chemistry that will have you on the edge of your seat. Skye warren has always been one of my go to anti-hero Alphas that make you weak at the knees and a storyline that holds you captivated.

It was a great way to be introduced to new authors that I haven't had the pleasure of reading and now I want to read more of their books. They are all beautifully written and compliment one another. Great authors, great stories, great book.

It was free on amazon. Some of the stories were not what I was in the mood for, I am not a fan of bondage stuff. No 50 shades for me. There were a couple stories I liked, Assumption was good. I also liked The Pawn. Unfortunately, these are mostly prequel books, so you will have buy the next book(s). Assumption was part of a trilogy, but the other two books are about other people. I recommend those books. Just to put it out there, there is seldom enough material to tell one story beginning to end about one event , that needs three brooks. Perhaps I should have put the caps lock on for that sentence.

The Pawn by Skye Warren - 3/5
I can't believe I liked this but I did and my library has the rest of the series, so will probably be checking that out.

Willing Victim by Cara McKenna - 4/5
Was SUPER into this, not sure I want to seek out the sequel because I liked where this was left.

Assumption by Aurora Rose Reynolds- DNF

That's a terrible cliffhanger and I resent it. Otherwise, this was great.

I made it almost all the way through this and then there was a loan shark scene that made me roll my eyes so badly that I couldn't bring myself to finish it.

A Week in New York by Louise Bay - 3/5 stars

I read Skye Warren's The Pawn which is her contribution to this anthology and I love this series.

This book is absolutely intoxicating in a dark and dangerous way. I loved every minute of it and Gabriel...HOT dang Gabriel is just the sexiest jerk ever. Avery is a good character she does have some growing to do that's for sure but I have a feeling she will grow so very well in the next books to come and I can't wait to see how this game Gabriel seems to be playing plays out and find out the truth to his secrets he is keeping.

Mastering Her Senses-Laura Kaye
4 stars
Quinton and Cassia’s romance was sexy, gentle, and steamy. The sensory deprivation aspect was also quite interesting.

Assumption -Aurora Rose Reynolds

Kenton and Autumn were a pair! Between the bickering, bossy orders and possessive behavior, Kenton kept me on my toes, but Autumn also gave as good as she got. At times I felt a little lost with what I assume were character references, but not enough to detract from the overall story. Good read.

I have only myself to blame

I downloaded this book knowing that there were BDSM elements when I don't like BDSM. I should have known better.

I read about a third of the first book in this compilation. The writing is good and well-edited. The hero isn't an obnoxious jerk. However, the whole master-submissive thing offends my feminist soul.

So, take this review for what little it's worth. If you enjoy BDSM romance, then you'll probably enjoy this. If not, find something else to read.
