You can't change the past, you can't flee from the inevitable, and you can't fight what you can't see.
After the death of the grandmother she never knew, dragon shifter Lucrezia Delarossa has inherited more than just her Grandmothers extensive wealth and property. The Delarossa Clan was a powerful line of dragon shifters and without her mother to guide her when she was growing up, she is just discovering the extent of their legacy and how little she was told about her heritage.
After finally summoning the courage to cut ties and end her poor relationship with her boyfriend, she tries to start a new life in the city. Strange things have happened in the last year, and the extensive warnings she received from her Grandmothers' lawyer do not seem so silly and exaggerated anymore. Her supernatural powers have intensified, and she is stronger than ever, but her gifts are difficult to hone, she has yet to learn how to wield them with finesse. Her dragon feels hunted and unsure, and the usually strong and independent Lucy is feeling vulnerable. Along with her abilities that are central to her career as a Detector, the precognition she experiences in dreams has shown the past and future events, if only she could harness the power so she could direct it to get badly needed answers.
She literally meets the man from her dreams, but he is so much more than he seems. With people following her, warnings and attacks, she has to trust someone, and the people she called her best friends are not as close as she once thought. Desperate to trust someone, paranoid and afraid, she reaches out, in the hope that he can help.
Aris is a vampire with problems of his own, and his coven, The Hadley Caro Coven, has enough on their plate, but Lucy has him fascinated and she is in his thoughts constantly. With too many unanswered questions and family chronicles she cannot understand, Aris must help her discover who is behind the attacks on her and his coven before whoever is behind them succeeds in their task.
As they get closer to answers, it becomes clear that there is so much more happening than either of them could imagine, both behind the scenes and between them both. As his past comes back to haunt him, can he convince Lucy to trust him despite what he has done? She does not trust easily for good reason, very few people know her properly, and he is desperate to be one of them. As the truth unfolds both Aris and Lucy need to face more than their enemies, and it becomes clear to them both that they will only succeed if they do it together.
Shifters and vampires, betrayal and deception, the past that is determined to speak for itself, and a powerful barrier to their survival. Can they survive long enough to see if the spark between them is worth fighting for?

A change to the usual fast food type fantasy book. This one was definitely a hearty home cooked meal in comparison. The characters are likeable and explored well, very relateable. The book blurb thing doesn't do this story justice there's far more going on than it suggests. Only wish the second book was here now as it's left me wanting to know what happens next.
Absolute cracker! Easily up there with Anne Rice and the other greats. For a first book this was brilliant. Very impressed, a very good writer, especially the exciting scenes, very well described and not cheesy or corny where other books in this genre are. Very good.
