Oath Forger #2

Oath Forger 2

Rate this book
There's a saying on Earth: "Fake it till you make it." Sadly, I'm no longer on Earth. My motto is: "Fake it till you get caught."

I'm trying to settle into being the Oath Forger, trying to resist the advances of the five most powerful kings in the galaxy (it's going about as well as you'd think), expecting my lies to catch up with me at any second.

Except, the freaking space pirates catch up with me first.

Hmm...mostly still enjoyable, and I want to see where this goes. The fifth harem member, Roax, has arrived and he is an ultra-dominant, uber alpha villain type - the kind you can't help also loving. Will be interesting to see how all that goes.

But there were cracks showing in this installment. Not as funny as before (partially because the story is picking up a little). And some very very frustrating moments. Ava is being terribly insecure and weaker than she was in the first book. And she made some STOOPID decisions that drove me nuts.

I also find the cliffhanger endings irritating - especially when the author had it all written before publishing even the first book. Which means she did it on purpose. UGH.

And the price on these is high for the length :( Also annoying.

I will try one more and see where it goes, because I like the men and hope it gets back to being as fun as the first volume (and that the MC has gotten her stupidity out of the way).

We shall see.

UPDATE NOTES:
60.0% - And now we have it - my first moment of utter frustration... OMG, Ava is being a fucking idiot. I HATE decisions like this - especially after Tiam has just told her about the pirates and the danger to them all. STOOOPID!

35% - I think this is an error. It should be Uthan and Dason to either side, since the author said Tiam came to meet her at her room and escort her to the private dining room. That, or it was Uthan escorting her and that was the mistake.
"My gaze is drawn to the young woman who sits at the round table. She occupies one of the dozen chairs, with Tiam and Dason seated on either side of her. She has their full attention."

34% - LMAO
"And I can see now what a mistake it would be to pick, say, silver, or blue, or any of the kreks’ colors. It would be read as a declaration. Pink? That’s nobody’s color, as far as I can tell. Pink would do, except, I can’t see myself parading around in a pink jumpsuit. If I go in front of that crowd outside the palace, do I want to look like a giant pink penis? I bite back a laugh."

20.0% - First glaringly false note. Calling Tiam a "nerd" is anachronistic. In a dystopian Earth where there are no books, no paper, and Ava only knows Earth's history from old movies, calling scholarly Tiam a "breathtakingly gorgeous warrior nerd" sticks out like a sore thumb. Popped me right out of the story. :(

This book is just interesting enough that you want to keep reading the series.

I adore Ava, she is truly a survivor and I love that about her. Even though her main goal is getting back to her sister, she is also trying to help Earth as a whole.

I think the book is too short for the price but again it is an interesting book.

The plot is finally going somewhere..

Read other books by this author in the future: yes

Copy of my review left with the first book!
I am going to review all five parts here. All books in this series were pretty short reads (like less than 2000 Positions in Kindle, I am writing this here, because it feels shorter than the 200+ pages you find in the book Information or the Amazon page). So I was able to finish the whole series in three days.
This is a SiFi and the earth is a dystrophian world. This is also a fated mate series, where the FMC Ava has seemingly the choice to accept all mates or most of them. But somehow it does not feel like she has a choice there. The series entertained me and after finishing one book I always felt, that I should find out what the next book is all about. So I rated it with 3.5 stars.

Good, but this installment made me dislike the guys...

I wish I didn’t have to wait for the 3rd installment! I REALLY enjoyed the second book. My only complaint, and it’s a big one, that they all had lovers. I think a truly successful RH has to focus (fair or not) entirely on the heroine, in this case, Ava. It’s pretty underhanded that 4 of the 5 Kreks have lovers, and I really dislike Tiam telling her it was over when he first laid eyes on her when it is CLEAR from the kiss she witnessed that he was still carrying on with the captain. Basically I enjoyed Ava in this installment, I’m rooting for her as the oath forger, but am saddened (especially since i was getting to like the Kreks) how annoyed and upset they made me in this second installment. I honestly felt she had a true connection with Koah and I was getting fond of Tiam...now I don’t trust them and basically I think they’re kind of jerks for using their lovers for release but “stringing” Ava along.

Ok. Part deux. As usual, this serialisation annoys me as a format. This is more like chapter two. It just makes everything feel rushed or like the author is trying to draw some elements out.

Not a lot happens in this part. The heroine gets kidnapped through her own stupidity. For someone so good at surviving, Ava doesn’t really prepare well when she endeavours to save Tiam’s sister. I thought she was more savvy than that.

It’s the old get kidnapped frequently because you are so brave you run headfirst into situations you can’t handle, then wait for your guys to save you. *bangs head*

But.

It was quite fun.

All the five guys are here now and their characters have been introduced to us now and you get to see all their differences. I am invested in them now so i’ll continue reading. I am not totally underwhelmed but I am a long way from being impressed. But like I say, this could be the end of RH for me.

I’m so glad I read this right after the first one. We really get to know the others now that Koah is off saving earth from space pirates for Ava. Ava waffles back and forth between enjoying the attention of the kings and feeling guilty because she believes herself to be a fraud. She also shows bravery when she sees Olipha being taken, she just goes after her. And we get hints of what her powers could be. Ava has a rebellious spirit, exploring on her own in town and driving Tiam crazy. LOL I liked that.

Koah: My favorite so far. And I don’t really know why except that he was willing to leave her and attempt to protect her sister, the only one to volunteer.

Tiam: At first I didn’t like this one but I warmed up to him because he was so smart and picked up on things that Ava wanted to hide. When he revealed them, he didn’t use them to his advantage but promised to not tell the others. Plus he is the scholar of the group, which always draws me in.

Dason: Youngest and not possessive, actually I think he is submissive to Ava. The way he always sits at her feet and jumps to do her bidding wasn’t as irritating as I thought it would be. He seemed very comfortable in his skin and wasn’t embarrassed by the others making fun of him because he was the youngest.

Uthan: this guy is way more relaxed and doesn’t want to push to hard at Ava to accept him. He doesn’t want to scare her and is willing to go at her pace. I appreciated his patience. He is spiritual.

Roax: We know little of this guy so far, except that he is the most alpha/dominant of the group and Ava seems to sumbit to his attention right away. And she hates it. They seem to have a love/hate relationship so far.

Good, but same concerns

The second book in the series is just as good as the first. However, I still have the same concerns. Why is there so much mystery around what an oath forger is? The mystery seems so forced when the MC has access to a comm unit.

Also, what's the deal with her ditching her comm unit all the time? I really dislike dumb heroines. I'm not saying this one is dumb, but the comm unit issues really make me want to slap some common sense into her.

One of the most things I do like about this book is that it has a rational reason for why everyone in the universe has such common characteristics as humans. Very seldom is that explained.

Overall this book was decent. I'd give it 3.5 stars. It ends in another cliffhanger but it's expected after the first book.

Nothing happened in this one it is a 100% pointless book and you can completely skip it. I would just keep in mind that she spends 100 pages repeating the same thing over and over and you don’t have any progress with any of the meals and it’s not until the last five pages that all of them are even together. It is a very scheme of a book and honestly you don’t need to read it at all just skip ahead.

Disappointed with the Characters

Unfortunately, I don't recommend this series. I would like to save others from the heartbreak I felt from reading this installment. I was really looking forward to the plot and the character development between the Kreks and Ava. I read the next book to try and give this series a chance but I just couldn't get past the situation between all the Kreks and Ava, especially Tiam and Ava.

Books 1-3 could have been combined to be just one book based upon the plot and character development. The story line, the world building, and the character development was rushed and did not allow the reader to really create a bond with everything. For me, great books with multiple guys consist of strong character developments and an understanding of each of the main characters or else it just comes off as the happy, everything is somehow perfect and falls exactly into place story. It's sad to say that this series initially started off great and then just fell into that perfect insta-connection. We even read about Ava questioning that connection, yet she does not follow through on it which was extremely frustrating. Overall, it felt like it could have had another pass at editing to create a full story without missing holes.

After praising Ava for being smart in the first book I think she does some stupid things in this. Going out when you know there are dangers intent on hurting you and you are going to upset people is not smart at all. Also, why not look up what exactly an Oath Forger is and what is encompassed in it. It could easily be explained that coming from earth she doesn't know much about it.

But other than that the story develops nicely.

I know, I know; I should have written one review for each book, but I devoured them back-to-back and now I can’t separate the events in my head. I just couldn’t bring myself to put the series aside long enough to write in between each book. So, ya’ll are just going to have to forgive me for giving you one review for four books.

I’m totally in love with Ava (not that way!). She’s badass and snarky, and watching her navigate the totally bewildering circumstances of her new position was riveting. Her character was relatable and surprisingly well-balanced; her life on a devastated Earth made her strong, but that same strength came with some blind spots. When she messed up, she owned it. She showed great compassion for the people that most higher-ups ignore, and she was smart enough to know when she needed help. Her experiences (and her reactions to them) made me laugh and even cry a couple of times. She’s just a great heroine. We also get to know the kreks, and I’m just going to warn you now: you’re gonna need something to wipe the drool off your chin.

The first Oath Forger book had some definite sexual tension between Ava and Koah, but it’s multiplied exponentially as each subsequent krek is worked into the story. Each book is also increasingly more explicit in the frequency and intensity of the romance scenes. The sex is pretty detailed, though Ms. Mars achieved a nice balance between sensual and explicit, and there’s more than just Ava + one. This is, after all, a reverse harem story with five men! Even with all that, however, the characters are really well developed and we get to know them better as they interact with Ava. It would have been so easy for Ms. Mars to let them blend together into an indistinguishable attractive-alien-overlord stereotype, especially considering the commonalities they shared, but she didn’t. She gave each krek his own distinct style, personality, and quirks, and I found that I liked each for different reasons. It was impossible to pick a favorite, though Tiam and Roax would be in the running. All five are head-over-heels in love with Ava and she with them. Those blossoming relationships—and the struggles they face along the way—add a very intimate element to balance the politics, treachery, and intergalactic going’s on, and super-hot sack sessions.

My only complaint—and the reason this isn’t an A+ rating—is the editing. While there aren’t a ton of typos, the ones I came across were the kind that a spellchecker should have caught. I have a suspicion that Ms. Mars got a little rushed in trying to stick to her publish-one-each-week timeframe, and that last run-through got skipped. Hopefully, she’ll go back and fix them.

Bottom line: What a fantastic sci-fi romance series! Sure, they’re short and could easily have been combined into one book, but I like the idea of the serial releases. I highly recommend Oath Forger to anyone who loves a fast-paced, well-plotted, sizzling-hot reverse harem with a strong heroine at its center, and a HEA. Seriously, I can’t encourage you enough to read these! Sorry, I’m fan-girling a little…

Yes, yes, yes. Loved this book. I'm pretty sure I was grinning the entire time I was reading it. All the humor makes me giggle, and these men need to get laid STAT. (lol)

So, I'm really liking Ava in this book. She's got such a good heart, I mean she's throwing away her life for to save Earth, (most of all Lily) but her subconscious is killing her inside because she doesn't want to keep lying about being the Oath Forger (GIRL PLZ, YOU'RE THE OATH FORGER) is all I gotta say every time she throws that excuse in the air for not doin' more than she wants when it comes to these sexy men.

This time we are introduced to more than just Koah and Tiam and get to know the guys A LOT better like Uthan & Dason. Also, Roax but he's not important in this book since he's not really prominent (YET OOOOF)

I love that each guy is different, very much so physically, but their personalities all glow a different vibe or color, kind of like the colors they represent being, Koah (Blue), Tiam (Silver), Uthan (Bronze), Dason (Green), and Roax (Black).

The heat is turned up ladies and gents. There's more nom-nomness to be had in this book. Also, it's my favorite because we get lots of Tiam time, and Tiam is pure dreamboat. I'm flying through these books because I love this world and the characters. It doesn't even have to be a reverse harem, and I'd still be content.

If you've read the 1st and are deciding on the 2nd, GO READ THE REST OF THE BOOKS!!!

P.S: Please, again I ask of you...somehow, someway this needs to become an anime!!

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better... I read book 2!
I'm seriously falling in love with this series.
In this book we learn more about the guys and meet our fifth king who is kind of an ass but definitely seems like the kind that I'll end up loving in the end. He's definitely gonna make things interesting ;)
Plus I love the way this book ended! Don't wanna spoil anything but lets just say it set up some great plot for book 3 :)
Also in this book we got to meet a sister to one of the guys who seems great! I hope she continues to play a role in the upcoming books.
This book also addressed the concept of the guys having previous/other lovers/relationships. They make it clear that any previous relationships they may have had ended once they found out about Ava. While she is worried they aren't really developing feelings for her, just thinking they are because they believe she is the oath forger, Ava is still beginning to fall for them. She also worries about the "real" oath forger arriving and what will happen then. While I firmly believe that she is definitely the actual oath forger, we don't know for sure yet.... but I'm sure we'll find out very soon!
Eagerly awaiting book 3... only five more days :)

Sci-Fi Reverse Harem Romance.

Ava has now meet The Five.
But the crippling truth is beating down on her.
How can she possibly be the Oath Forger?
She has to tell them the truth, even if it puts her at stake.

I think I enjoyed this one more than the first one.

We've gotten past on the preliminary stuff and into the meat of the story.
We've met all the key players in the story.
Lined out what is going on and what needs to happen.

While I can see where some people will have a hard time with certain aspects of this book, I found them intriguing.
The members of her harem having previous lovers is something to be expected.
One major scene is not told from the male POV so we don't get to see how he reacted.
I would definitely love to get some points of view from the males' perspective.

Ends on a horrendous cliffhanger!

I still have a lot of questions I feel need to be answered.
And at times I felt like a discussion was leading somewhere only to not be finished.
I'm hoping by the end of this series everything I've been wondering about will be answered.

Recommend it.
I've been enjoying this series so far and I think others will too.

Oath Forger 2 was just as good, if not better, than number 1. Mars’ writing style is one I can lose myself in completely. I was about an hour late starting dinner because I could not put number 2 down until I had finished it.

The world (or worlds) building is fantastic and Mars delivers the science fiction aspect of this reverse harem novel with masterful skill. I’m finding myself more and more drawn into the different planets and how the galaxy works.

Oath Forger 2 starts off from exactly where number 1 left off. Ava has just agreed to give being the Oath Forger a go, for the sake of peace and saving her sister. But Ava is full of fear that all her lies will catch up with her and spends much of the book running from those fears. We do get some more backstory on the four Kreks we had already met, and we finally get to meet the fifth Krek - Roax.

I have to admit that this was a hastily written review, I do have to get back to dinner, but more importantly, I have to immerse myself in book 3.

Series review: A really fun and competently written scifi reverse harem, but should have been condensed into fewer books. Each book is novella length and often ended fairly abruptly and there wasn't really any book-specific plot - it's a single story broken into five parts. But since I just read them back to back, I did enjoy the story.

The characters were largely fine. Ava has a bit of a case of the stupids, not understanding things that were incredibly obvious, which was frustrating, but there were other interesting and fun aspects of her character that I liked. The guys weren't particularly deep but they were distinguishable. I thought it made good use of the sci-fi setting but if you're here for the alien-love, the heroes here are technically aliens but really just humans with tiny differences and you may be disappointed.

Another Chapter into the Oath Forger Deception

The story pick up right where the last one left off. Ava and four of the Five are talking about her ultimatums. This book's overall story focuses on Ava and Tiam relationship. It starts with Koah going to protect Earth from the current pirate forces. Ava gets closer to Tiam only to find he has a lover. Running away, Ava finds herself on a small adventure. Meanwhile Koah has gone missing in action. You really get know are heroine in this tale. She's kind and courageous even a little naive at time. Loved the ending. Laughed till I cried. Have already pre-ordered the next in series.

THIS!!!!

Ok this series is seriously vying for a spot on my favorites shelf. I need the rest of these books like yesterday lol. The story is so far just deliciously good and I can't wait to see what happens. The action the mystery the frustration and excitement it's seems to be working toward the perfect storm. And can I just say Roax yuuuummmm, all of the five are but oooo goodness i can't wait to learn more about him and all of them and their futures. Would totally recommend this series.

Sexy...

So I finish the second book, and see that the author says she has already written all 5 books but she is releasing them a week apart. Also, these books are not apart of the kindle unlimited, I have to pay extra...but let me say this...I will pay it gladly. The girl was kick ass but still innocent and sweet. The men were so hot, I’m positive if I was her, there is no way I would have held out...I’m usually a little aggravated with endless sequels, but really, it’s so good...I can’t hate on her for makin that money. Keep writing honey...

Okay

The last book I found the plot was engaging and interesting but writing was stilted. Unfortunately, this seems to be a common theme because I still found the writing to be awkward and underdeveloped at parts. I also started to develop an intense dislike for Ava with her constantly running away. I'll read the next one if it comes out on kindle unlimited but I don't want to buy any more books in this series.

Mixed feelings

I like the story. I want to keep reading especially since these cliff hangers are driving me nuts, but I have to admit that she's not as strong a character as I wish she was. Maybe it's just because it's book 2, idk. But I am hooked enough that even though I'm not completely sold on Ava, I will be finishing the series lol.

Runaway

When you go from nothing to the most important person in the federation, things can get a bit overwhelming. Especially when 4 potential hot lovers are part of the deal.

While safe, Ava isn't coping well, and the things that she discovers when she hides could break her heart and end her life.

This is moving right along. We finally meet Roax. He's intriguing. I think Dason is sweet. Ava has finally told the five that she isn't the Oath Forger. The pirates are up to no good and I wonder who is giving them information about the Federation and about Ava. I'm pretty sure that Ava has power that she is unaware of.

Frustrating

These first two books have been so frustrating!! Are these YA books because there are still so many unanswered questions nobody's communicating!!
