Someone’s using me as leverage against my family. I was your average citizen, innocent of any crime worth going to prison for, and yet here I am.
But this isn’t a regular prison ship.
*Torture.*
Experiments.
They alter me. And when the ship crashes on an alien planet, some of my new abilities come in quite handy—it’s the side effects that aren’t entirely welcome.
Not by me, anyway. The tribe of aliens that have taken me captive?
They don’t seem to mind.

~The Valos of Sonhadra series is the shared vision of nine scifi and fantasy romance authors. Each book is a standalone with a guaranteed Happy Ever After and can be read in any order.~

This book was just all over the place. I never connected to any of the characters or with the plot. Waste of time for me. Sorry.

Amanda Milo has made my ‘auto-buy’ list of authors. This did not disappoint in any way.
I’m absolutely going looking for the sequel by Poppy Rhys.
This is one of those ‘multi-author’ series that all contribute to building.
Absolutely recommended

OK, ladies.

Hold onto your panties.

description

Or at least try to.

I tried.

OK, maybe not that much. But still...

description

I'll start by saying that I have received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. It does help a bit that I would have possibly killed, stolen, blackmailed, threatened, and poisoned for it. People who know me even a little bit are well aware that I might just not be bluffing.

BUT! Fortunately for a couple of innocent souls out there, the wonderful Amanda Milo made it possible for me to skip this step and so I will not be doing jail time anytime soon.

I hope...

Moving on!

Now, I do feel somehow obligated to give you all a fair warning. First and foremost, we're dealing here with quite the scorching , so we can add that to the ocean of alien hotness I have gleefully encountered in this book. No to look forward to (to the mild disappointment of yours truly, a.k.a. the huge pervert), so we're keeping it pretty tame in my book...

*snorts*

Or as tame as it is possible when dealing with plant aliens.

description

Yes, my mind is happily relocating in the gutter every time I start reading hot alien romances (and I read those a lot -like A LOT, A LOT) and it kinda shows. Basically, this was me while reading the book:

description

Petra, our delightful h, starts off as an average individual when comparing her to her father and sister and their impressive achievements and abilities. It also doesn't help that their family is a military one. At least not in her current predicament.

Furthermore, it really doesn't help when she ends up as a prisoner on a jail-ship far out in space. Or when she gets experimented on... Frequently.

Think... human lab rat with certain perks? Yea... not nice.

Life happens.

description

But does our heroine roll over and accept her fate? Hell no. Amanda Milo knows how I like my FLs and this gal is right up my alley. So she turns into a tough little cookie and gives back as good as she gets. Not that bad since the evil scientists are turning her into a sort of superweapon slash perfect soldier and a girl gotta show some spine and brains before things go even more downhill.

The bad part?

Well, it's not really a bad part.

At least not for my inner pervert, that is.

description

Her sex drive went up a few notches and we also get a sexy prison guard called Drogan into the equation, so you can imagine how that itch ended up being frequently scratched. All over the ship. Add some very obvious lack of condoms and contraceptives into the mix and I think you get where I'm going and what the end result is.

description

Hence the aliens in question to the rescue, a.k.a. the Valos.

A.k.a. the plant aliens. A.k.a. the hotties. A.k.a sex on a stick. Plural.

You get me.

Here is where we get some very creative feeding sessions.

With 3 alien hunks.

3.

As in three .

THREE.

OK, I think you got my drift.

Oh, and Drogan of course, who stuck around until the end. The boy gets some extra brownie points for that, not gonna lie here. And it helps that he's such a sucker for Petra.

Basically...

description

Sign.

Me.

In.

ASAP. You didn't hear me complaining when I read this book twice and sort of forgot to go to work on time. And no, that's neither a joke nor an exaggeration. The 230 passengers I was supposed to board into the airplane at the beginning of my shift probably didn't think it was hilarious either. My boss... kinda didn't either.

BUT AGAIN. Moving on, ladies.

And you probably also won't see me complaining when I'll devour the second book in the series with equal gusto - they're connected, so do make sure to read them together

Now, you guys know I don't do recs or flattering reviews just for the sake of promoting shit I don't like. When I do like stuff, you'll know it. When I don't like stuff, you get my painful review of Ticees (Ribus 7 #2)

Yea, what can I say? I really am a sucker for good alien romances. I mean, I've got what? Over 3500 read books on my "alien hanky panky" shelf? Along with zero regrets about it and frequent bouts of bragging about my reading proclivities.

This to my mother's eternal horror.

*whispers* thank God she doesn't know any English or else she'd completely erase me from the family registry *ends whisper*

Unfortunately though, even with that number, damn few of those books get the coveted 5 stars from me. I've gotta admit once in a while that my huge inner pervert sometimes requires more than inserting alien slot A into human slot B.

I had some concerns with the happenings in the beginning of this book. Mostly because prison romances between a guard and inmate can be very iffy if not handled right. So I was (a) concerned the first man we were introduced to was going to die horribly and leave Preta on her own or (b) he was going to be a colossal douchecanoe who *expected* things she had only given him because of the imbalance of power due to their positions on the ship.

I'm pleased to say neither of these scenarios came to pass. Drogan didn't die and he wasn't a douchecanoe. He was a little possessive and a lot in love and he still managed to see that the Kahav are her greatest chance for survival what with their ability to keep her healthy and happy.

I like a guy who can rationalize his way through things completely outside what their used to.

While Drogan had to come to terms with Preta needing more than one mate to keep her on the up and up, Preta had to make her own mental adjustments. Namely, that three very alien beings were all that stood between her and wasting away. Good thing she liked the three men who found her. And good thing that Drogan saw the light when he did and managed to convince her that she needed to follow her heart and her lady garden to wherever they led.

A lot of crazy, a lot of sexy, and a lot of fun. I have a feeling I'm going to blaze through this entire series pretty quickly. I'd best get to it.

Well that took me by complete surprise.

The writing style flowed and made the story flow, even though you need more book to really know what is going on. I understand that all the books in the series are written by different authors and you can read them as a stand alone but the plot is suppose to intertwine the books together so I hope more is explained in the next book.

Preta was an interesting MC, I actually liked her and her aliens. Her back story was just strange because you really have no idea how the hell she wound up in that situation.

This book is absolutely amazing! I adored the characters and how they all interacted together. I caught myself laughing out loud quite a few times, and the banter! Oh my goodness. This is one of those books that you just don't want to end. Don't get me wrong, the ending is perfection, but I wanted to stay in her world longer. She did such a wonderful job of bringing this world to life in vivid detail. I'll be rereading this in the near future. This is the first book out of nine in the Valos of Sonhadra series, I will be reading the whole series. Please check out her other books, she's amazing and you won't be disappointed.

Okay, sooo... let's start.

This book has a lot of my favourite tropes. Mars needs women, cultural differences between humans and aliens, what I dub the "great prison escape", a lab rat heroine, reverse harem... Yep. I like the author's voice, and it was very amusing. But what has me subtracting a star is that this story line was just too damn interesting for such a short novel!! This deserved KO'C levels of fleshing out, not a quick 5 second synopsis.

3.5 Stars!

Hands down my favorite in the series because of the details and well Tree Dragon Aliens. Yeah.

We spend a lot of time in the awful prison ship and we meet our first hero there and our heroine.

I won't spoil what is going on but I will say I loved how reasonable and grown up they both were about the crazy sauce that was happening.

And the Tree Aliens are amazing. The banter is great. The world building is good and we get time to trust and root for this poly romance.

Good stuff!

The Valos of Sonhadra series is a Sci-Fi alien romance with each of the 9 books in the series being told by a different author. If you have a favourite author of the bunch and don't want to read them all don't worry, each book can be read as a standalone. The background story for each book is the same, the heroine for nefarious and various reasons has been locked away in a prison ship and being experimented on by scientists. The experimentation changes each of the heroines in some way, which becomes massively useful when the prison ship crash lands on an unfamiliar planet. That's when the heroine starts to meet the natives. Sonhadra, the planet they have landed on, is inhabited by different factions of valos. The valos all have unique abilities and appearances...and most of them haven't seen a female in a long long time.

Wins the Award for Weirdest Alien Cock of the Series

This series popped up on my radar because of Amanda Milo, I have read her books before (check out her Stolen by an Alien series) and really enjoyed them. What I like about Milo is her aliens, she writes a great alien romance she makes them weird, but still kind of sexy as well. However, although the aliens in this one qualified as weird, although intriguing, I just didn't find them sexy. That didn't mean I didn't enjoy the heroine being romance by three tree aliens and one human male, but it came across as more sweet then sexy.

Overall thoughts: I enjoyed it, however, it perhaps wasn't the best introduction to the series and wasn't my favourite.

Amanda Milo has done it again! She brings truly alien aliens to life in ways that intrigue me instead of repulse me.

Preta has been an unwilling experimental subject in a space prison. During the course of the experiments done upon her, she has formed a relationship with a guard. There are emotional ties between them that are about to complicate their lives tremendously when the prison station crashes on a strange planet.

Mayhem ensues and in the mad dash to safety, Preta Sol and Ryan Drogan run into several alien creatures. Unbeknownst to them, they are also being tracked and protected by sentient aliens in battle form (think tree dragons). Once they all meet, during a bloody battle, the three aliens form a bond with Petra and Ryan. Preta and Ryan have much they need to come to terms with about these new people and how they will all interact.

The three aliens - Petrichor, Maceous, and Bortammos are the last of their kind and all male. They are earth power Valos, which is quite different from what I expected. They have a bipedal form and a battle form - a tree dragon. Each of them is quite different. Petrichor is the first to bond with Preta and is the most well-rounded of the three. Maceous is the largest and bossiest. Bortammos is quite shy and smaller than the other two. I wish I had seen more of them individually but now there is more to imagine.

Ryan is an interesting character. I think there is much more to him than we expected from a run-of-the-mill prison guard.

All in all, I would recommend this book if you like science fiction romance and reverse harem. It certainly fits both nicely. Preta is a lucky girl in the end!

Original characters

I liked this mostly because of its originality. Petra was imprisoned on a spaceship, she was experimented on, she found a guard she could trust, fell for him, ended up pregnant, the ship crashed on an alien planet. None of that sounds very original, but what comes after is!
Petra and her guard Ryan run into some pretty vicious predictors on the planet. Ryan (her loved guard) tries to protect her from not only the predators, but the other guards who are almost as vicious. They get get separated and saved by some very interesting aliens. Ryan is shot and Petra is near starvation, she was also separated from her sister Charlie. These aliens, Tree Dragons, save them both in an interesting way. In the she is reunited with her sister and a new set of aliens.
The author does some great world building with the underground home of the tree dragons. She has almost surgical description in the wat the tree dragons feed Petra. I really liked her description of Caedon. I think it took real imagination to come up with this story and its originality.
My 1 complaint is that Petra said she was innocent, I would like to know how/ why she was on the prison ship. As for the rest, such as Charlie's story and what happened to the rest of the girls on the ship, hopefully the rest of the series covers that! Well done Amanda Milo!

Its ok. It was pretty funny and entertaining or else I might have rated lower. The characters were flat and the love interests and sex boring. The parts that connect this book to the 2nd book were just as awful in both books.

I’ve never read this author so that’s one thing I like about the series itself, the fact that each new books is going to be a different writing style with the same background. I will still continue with it, hopefully I can find a new author that writes a hell of tale, even if it’s only a couple hundred pages.

Book 1 in the valos of sonhadra series

Petra is leverage, her father is a military major, her sister is a secret military operative.. Petra was just Petra... she didn’t have the will to join the military... but held captive on the prison ship The Concord she has no choice... slowly but surely she is being turned into a super soldier. With mind programming and secret serums to keep her at optimum levels.
Her one happiness is a guard, her guard Drogan. After discovering that the experiments have caused her to suffer excess in sexual appetite she initiated a sexual relationship with Ryan. But it’s not enough what she really needs, what her programming needs is a ‘unit’, a team, a family and due to conditions in space and a distinct lack of a drugstore or family planning that’s gonna happen real quick.

So when Petra and Drogan stumble onto a group of earth valos, Petra is in bad shape, the experiments have resulted in a highly highly metabolised state and is starving to death, the earth valos ( are all that’s left ) and cannot help but want to nurture her and feed her 😈😈😈

There are moments of pure unadulterated hilarity in this book, The interactions between the earth valos and Ryan had me in fits of laughter...beautifully crafted, wonderfully lighthearted and filled with humour this book was an absolute pleasure and joy to read!
I especially liked the tie in with book 2 ( I looked forward to it happening because I read book two prior to this one ) and le squeeedd in happiness when I read the ending!!

I'll admit I've been tip-toeing around this series for a while, but I never could muster the courage or motivation to start it. However, I find myself in kind of a dry spell when it comes to Alien romances, I've read all those that got my attention and until new ones get published I had to find a series to read in the meantime. And that's how The Valos of Sonhadra finally got its chance.

When it comes to Alien romances I usually prefer the Hero to be an Alien and the heroine to be plain human, so this series was a bit of an adjustment seeing as the heroines have all been genetically modified by evil scientists. But I got over it after a while.

THE STORY
I won't lie, I skipped most of the first part of this story and only started reading when Petra and Ryan meet the Kahav trio. But even without reading fully the beginning I was able to understand the ongoing plot and what had happened. — So, from the blurb I knew what to expect, yet at the same time I didn't. I didn't expect there be humor especially once the Kahav come into play. In the end I'm really glad I finally gave this book a chance and I'm confident that I'll enjoy the rest of this series. Even tho I tend to prefer my romances to be childless and pregnancy free...

THE CHARACTERS

Petra — she was interesting character and I admire her strong will and courage especially after everything the scientist have put her through. She adapted. I'm not really into the whole "in need to f*ck to feed" thing going on but the author managed to write it in a way that I found enjoyable.

Ryan and the Trio — honestly I laugh my ass off with Ryan's POV and banter with Mace. I wasn't fully sure if I liked him at first, but he grew on me. Having to share Petra with other beings was a hard things to grasp at first but he was man enough to understand that her well being came before his pride. And once he was able to accept the Kahav and understand that they basically all wanted the same thing , which was to make Petra happy and take care of her child, he became more reasonable even tho it didn't stop his banter with the guys.

— ALL IN ALL : final thoughts

The author did an amazing job at worldbuilding. The alien species she created were refreshing and very well thought through. It is a nice change from this usual grey/purple/blue humanoid aliens that the author usual tend to portrait. The sex scenes were kinda hot if not a bit strange due to the alien's species. The writing was great, the story was well paced and the most lead characters were all endearing and entertaining in their own way.

Will I reread this book ?
Possibly. Once the series is closed I might reread each book and enjoy the adventure completely from start to finish.

Would I recommend this book ?
I would. It was entertaining and refreshing (especially the hot strange sex with the tree guys).

Will I read the next book ?
I will , and if all goes well I'll read the whole series. It will all depends on the authors and their writing style since each book seem to be written by a different author. I just hope their writing styles won't be too different from one another .

A new side to nature.

Ok this is the first book in the Valos Of Sonhadra series and I have to admit I've got mixed feelings about this one. Firstly I'm not really into reverse harem so I found myself not enjoying it as much as I could have. The story starts off quite interesting with our leading lady Preta being wrongly imprisoned. During her stay a relationship bloom's between her and one of her prison guards Drogan. She was used for medical testing during her incarceration and is no longer the woman she used to be. Something happens to the prison ship and it crashes into an alien planet. There on the planet Sonhadra Preta and Drogan come across three male looking aliens which resemble tree men. Yeah that's right men who look part human and part tree it was just that strange. I could have gotten over that fact if when it came down to the intimate scenes their equipment would have been a bit more human looking. When I read that description and it came down to them having sex it was just too weird for me. It sort of reminded me of the hentai tentacle movies and that's just not my thing. I mean the three males wouldn't even move during sex they'd just stay still and there thingamajig would do all the probing. What really bothered me was the fact that she had no choice but to screw around with all of them, her life actually depended on it. I just felt so sorry for Drogan, he was NOT happy with that arrangement but had no choice but to accept it because he loved her. The story from the moment they crash landed and were searching for safety had no real depth to it. I mean it was mainly about her having to screw three alien men in order to live and even though learning about them was interesting other than that not much happens.

Alien male / human female HEA romance. The plus that gains the 4th star are the aliens. They don't look vaguely like human males, their social mores are distinct and their "junk" is ... alien.

Menage is well done.

I wonder who came up with the disparaging term 'junk' for what are properly called the 'family jewels'? Clearly a disgruntled ____. (You know who.)

The proof reading missed omitted words too often.

I'm not even sure this book is worth 2 ***. It was a hot mess from start to finish. If this first book was supposed to set the stage and draw me into the series it failed miserably. Nothing made sense. The characters were shallow and the plot disjointed. Hot sexy tree / plant men, really???? Too many WTF moments for me.

Drogan and Preta started off with a bang, the plot jumps into the deep end and I'm hooked. However pretty quick a reverse harem was added in and it felt forced, Preta never seemed to really care/connect with them. And since this was the rest of the story (not much else but each taking their turn) I rated this book 1*.

This is the first book of the series. Preta is an innocent person, who is imprisoned wrongfully on a floating spaceship prison above Earth. Preta is tortured experimented on by vile scientists. Her only silverlinig is a guard named Drogan. He shows her compassion, but he also accidentally impregnants her. The floating prison crash lands on a strange alien planet named Sonhadra. She meets up with some of the local males who can shapeshift into a tree dragon. The males can sense Preta is with ”sproutling” and she needs to be fed. They are willing accept Pretra, Drogan, and the sproutling as part of their unique blended family. Preta gets a bigger surprise when she finds her older sister, who has her own harem of four Valos males who can manipulate water and electricity. Charlie’s story continues in book 2. Even if reverse harmen is not your favorite genre, the thrill and excitement of reading about a new world, culture, and people should spark anybody’s interest.

Well...

What a wild ride. Her books are always...interesting. I will give credit where it’s due, the story is unique and wholly original. The writing is superb and the humor is good. I laughed out loud several times. My only complaints are that the story skips ahead too much. Barely skimming over parts. There were several moments where I thought maybe I had accidentally skipped a page or paragraph. I struggled to fully grasp the “super solider” personification in the female lead. One moment she is bad ass and the next she is meek and unsure. I did like the relationship between her and Ryan. But I felt like there was nothing between her and the “dragons” her only need for them being protection, food and sex, I didn’t feel any other connection between her and them. The love scenes between the were awkward and short. There was also no explanation on how they knew she was their mate. I would have liked a bit more clarification on that and a few other things. I’m interested to see how the others in this series pan out.

This will "grow" on you

Prisons and experimentation are dismal subjects but the characters are amazing.
I really liked the uniqueness of there being a human male along with this reverse alien harem. The feelings were realistic in an out of this world crash landing. The lust and other feelings (or none at all) had scientific reasons.
I'm very interested to read other stories in this collaborative world.
