As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.
My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.
My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with. I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.
I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters. When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!
Maryann Jordan has definitely written a heart touching soul searing extremely easy to follow the storyline flowed really well. It was amazing that previous characters were in this book aswell so you got to read how they were going. I loved the fact that is was written as a slow building friendship to begin with and it was beautiful to follow it through the book and you could emerse yourself in the story and feel for the charecters with what they were experiencing.
Rafe and Eleanor were beautiful to read they both have very beautiful souls and it was a pleasure to read them while they did alot of soul searching to figure out either where they wanted to be or who they wanted to be, they both did alot of changing and it was written exceptionally.
I absolutely adore this author and her style of writing and would recommend this book to anyone who love an epic love between two very beautiful souls and I hope if you buy this book you will love it as much as I have.
Whenever I pick up a book by Ms Jordan, I know I will be reading another wonderful story. This one is no exception. Though this a stand alone, I would encourage you to read book one, ZANDER. The background of all the stories centers around foster boys who spent their youth in the loving home of Miss Ethel. As adults ,they have grown to be honorable men. Rafe served his country, and by chance became a model. But that life is no longer for him. He returns home for the summer to ponder on his future and ends up working for a recluse as a grounds keeper. Eleanor, the recluse has suffered great pain and losses , both emotionally and physically. Injuries have caused her to hide . Will Rafe open the world up for her? This was a heartbreaking but also heartwarming story. The journey these two take individually as well as together is touching. One discovers himself , the other realizes that love can heal if you trust and believe in the one who loves you. Loved the various quotes from classical books intertwined in the story. In addition to some of the author’s quotes. I specially loved, “the measure of a man was not in the mistakes he made, but in how he handles those mistakes” and “…roses take a long time to cultivate…but when they bloom, it’s worth the wait”. Lastly, Ms Jordan reminds us that the brave men and women who fight for our freedom , frequently return with emotional and physical injuries. We as a society, need to embrace as well as help them in their return to civilian life. Another wonderful story by this talented author. I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This book needs a warning label saying that readers must ensure tissue box is nearby as lots of them will be needed, otherwise you'll end up using your husband's shirt to blow your nose *true story*
When I read Zander's book and getting to know about Rafe, I just knew I would love it. I just didn't know that I would love it even more than Zander's! So far, I love everything about this series. From the amazing art on the book covers (yes, the very handsome models are just bonuses) and to Maryann Jordan taking a page from the Grimm's fairytale and twisting it to make her own. This book is so haunting, sad and funny too. Oh yes, it has the hotness and whoa, was it hot!
Rafe is book 2 in the Heroes At Heart series, it can be read on its own but for the full experience I highly recommend readers to start from book 1 (Zander).
*thank you for the advance copy gift. my thoughts with regards on the book are of my own*
Another great add to the series. Loving this new series and Rafe is no exception! Rafe is a man who got caught up in the moment, but now he's trying to get back to finding who he is. Eleanor is stuck in a prison of her own making, wanting to be left alone and away from the world. This is a sweet lovely story that kept a smile on my face. We see them building a friendship that turns into more because they can't deny that the connection they feel is special. You'll fall in love with each new couple for sure. Can't wait for the next. I voluntarily reviewed an 'Advance Author’s Copy' of this book.
Another sweet story to add to this series! This one is a twist on Beauty and the Beast. He is the beauty (a very hot model) and she is the 'beast' (woman with scars and insecurities). I liked the tension build up as Rafe tries to push his way into Eleanor's life. Plus, you get more Miss Ethel, more Zander and the other brothers, and more of this enchanting little town in Virginia!
This is book two in this series but can be read as a stand alone. I am loving this series. I really enjoyed these two main characters, Rafe and Eleanor. Rafe is trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life and Eleanor is trying to figure out how to live her life after the tragedies from her past. I love stories like this that make me feel so much and needing tissues through some parts. I can't wait to see what else this series brings.
After being the star of a "military men in uniform" calendar, former soldier Rafe starts a modeling career, even though it's not his style. So when his foster mother arranges for him to follow in his biological father's footsteps as a landscaper for a shut-in back in his hometown, he jumps at the opportunity, not knowing that house owner Eleanor is his own age, and just as lonely as he is.
This book is a gender-swapped take on "Beauty and the Beast," with Eleanor having been convinced that her burn scars make her "beastly," a fact that's reinforced when she's photographed with ex-model Rafe, who's previously dated other models. However, like Belle in the Disney version, Rafe doesn't care what Eleanor looks like, he can see through to her heart. Their relationship is sweet and wonderful. Once again, the book is slightly marred by the one-dimensional "villain" of Rafe's ex-agent, but overall, it's a great book.
Fabulous book. Emotional heartbreaking and so compelling I couldn’t put this book down. It’s about life and learning and heartbreak. The measure of a person is what they do not what they say. Rafe is that man. He shows his girl just what’s in his heart. A definite must read book
I absolutely loved Rafe, the latest installment of Maryann Jordan's Hero's at Heart series. We were first introduced to Rafe in Zander's book and I was left eagerly waiting for his story. I was not disappointed. Rafe Walker is former military turned model after posing in an Army calendar. Rafe is unsatisfied with his life and has decided to come home and get back to his roots. He takes on the job of landscaper for Bellamy House, where are heroine Eleanor lives. Rafe believes that he is working for an older lady who has become a shut in. Instead of an older woman, we have Eleanor; Eleanor is a young woman who has shut herself off from the world. At first, we don't know why but along the lines of the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, we know that in some way her appearance has caused her to turn away from society. Eventually, the two meet and from there their story unfolds. I wont give any details away, but it is absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking. Beautiful because of Rafe's unconditional acceptance and heartbreaking when we finally learn of Eleanor's history. Be prepared to have your heart strings tugged! I received an author's copy and I have left an honest review.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, sadness, secrets, pain, suspense, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Zander (Heroes at Heart #1)
This is Eleanor and Rafe’s story. Rafe is a beauty and had a modeling career to show for it. But he is tired of all the fame and just wants to relax. He goes home and finds work as a groundskeeper for a shut-in. Eleanor has experienced pain. She is young but Rafe does not know that when he gets the job he thinks she is older. When he finally does see her, he is surprised. When a storm comes through and Rafe gets injured Eleanor must take care of him. The slowly form a friendship that turns to more. But Rafe has secrets. When those secrets come out will he lose Eleanor forever? Or will she finally come around when she learns his love is real and know just a fairy tale?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
This book is beautiful and amazing. I received an ARC for my honest review. Rafe is the second book in the new Heroes of Heart series by Maryann Jordan, and she has delivered such a heartfelt and touching story you thought Zander was cry worthy well the story of Rafe and Eleanor will break your heart and slowly put it back together. The story centers around Rafe another of Miss Ethel's foster boys who she raised after Rafe's parents were both killed tragically. He grew up from a tall lanky kid to a strong well built handsome man. Rafe never could never quite figure out what he wanted to do with his life he worked hard but just sort of followed what others did or jobs just fell into his lap with out him trying hard. But eventually his lonely empty life had ran its course and though Miss Ethel he is given an opportunity to work as a grounds keeper at the beautiful Bellamy House which takes him back to his childhood roots when his parents where still alive, he thinks he's working for an elderly shut in woman, he is shocked to find a younger woman living a recluse life at Bellamy House instead. The two meet and eventually Rafe is able to break down some of Eleanor's walls she has built around her heart, and soon the pair begin to fall in love but will the ugliness of others and what society sees as beautiful tear this couple apart, will Eleanor return to her life behind her stone walls or will Rafe's unconditional love prove to Eleanor he is worth a second chance and a piece of her heart. I love how Maryann has based these stories around some of our favorite fairytales it only adds to the romance and beauty of what she writes but she still keeps her suspense and mystery in her books, it's different but makes me excited to read what's coming next. Thanks for the opportunity to read another of your books.
This is book 2 in the Heroes at Heart series. It can be read as a stand alone but the first one was a great read too so I recommend reading it also. Especially so you fully get the relationship between the "brothers". This one is about Rafe Walker and Eleanor Bellamy. Rafe is looking for a change in his life. He has always known modeling wasn't what he wanted to be doing forever after his stint in the military but now that his contract is finally up he doesn't know what he wants to do. So he goes home. Miss Ethel tells him about an opportunity to work for the summer as a landscaper for Bellamy house for a shut in. And since he loves working with plants and such he decides to do it. Not realizing that what he assumed was an elderly woman who couldn't get out was in actuality a young woman with secrets of her own.
I absolutely loved this book!! I knew there would be something special about Rafe after reading the first book and seeing his concern for his brother. I just didn't realize exactly how much I would truly love him. Yes, he is a beautiful man. But he doesn't let it go to his head or even to define who he is. Not after how he grew up or after hearing the words of wisdom from Miss Ethel. I love her by the way, LOVE HER!! Eleanor has issues of her own. And I don't want to give away what they are but when you read about it, you will understand why she is the way she is. And why she has such a hard time with her life now. It's heartbreaking, absolutely heartbreaking. But then they spend time together, and come to realize that they not only need each other, but they complete each other. Even when outside influences try to tear them down, they work through it and become so much stronger than they could be. And the ending! I loved it!! Absolutely great book!!
We were introduced to Rafe in the first book in the series, he has/had a photography modeling job. While in the military he had a chance to be in the military calendar and after that, his career took off. Seeing his brother in love he feels like that's what he wants and has been missing since he's surrounded by fake people in the industry. Having an opportunity to go back home he takes the chance to get away. He's gonna end up working as a groundskeeper for a lady with a giant house. He's always had a green thumb just like his dad before he passed away. Eleanor owns the house and nobody has actually seen her, Rafe believing he's working for an old lady only to realize that its young beautiful women. When a storm comes through throws Rafe off and injures him luckily Eleanor is near and helps him. Once these two finally meet each other she starts t realize that he's helping her grow in a good way. Eleanor has a couple of scares but leaves it to Rafe to make her feel like beautiful women. They go through a riff but that doesn't stop Rafe from getting a few words across her mind.
I loveeeee the fairytale theme with a twist, Rafe and Eleanor are a great couple can't wait for whose next to fall in love.
*I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion*
I am loving this series. This one is a take on Beauty and the Beast.
Having reached the end of his modeling contract, Rafe has had more than enough of the shallow, self-serving world surrounding him. He returns home to Virginia, set on finding something he really loves to do.
Miss Ethel, the woman who raised him and his 'brothers', is a crafty woman. She entices him to take the job as groundskeeper for a nearby shut-in. Of course she neglects to mention said shut-in isn't old or infirm.
As Rafe gets the outside of the estate looking pristine, our heroine Evelyn, starts thinking about her life and the cruelness of the world that caused her to hide away.
Storms lead the way to them actually meeting face to face. The twists and turns in this story will keep you wondering if these too will ever get together.
It's a good thing Rafe isn't one of those sit and watch TV guys, the cottage that comes with the contract has no TV, it does however have books. Lots and lots of books. Having him settle in to read after dinner is inspiring in itself. I really loved that when he looked around his temporary home he thought of a Hobbit house.
Full of references to several classics including Jane Eyre and The Hobbit. This is an entertaining love story you won't want to miss!
Rafe, former military, makes his life as a model. Tired of life as a model, the falseness of it all, he decides to take a break. He leaves LA to come home to his brothers and foster mom. Not sure what he wants to do with his life, he takes a job as grounds keeper to a shut in. His dad worked outside to create beauty, so he decides to put the skills he learned as a child to use. Rafe only has a few rules to follow. He can't go close to the main house or contact the shut in....
Eleanor, former nurse in the military, lives life as a shut in. Injured while serving and tired of the whispers, she decides it's better to live life alone....until Rafe. After an accident forces Eleanor out of her comfort zone, she realizes how lonely she is. Her friendship with Rafe soon means "everything" to her. Knowing that Rafe is leaving at the end of the summer, she decides to make the most of her friendship and experiences with Rafe.
This novel is the second in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. I love the beauty and the beast theme! I enjoyed that Rafe and Eleanor's friendship came first. The suspense at the end only added to the excitement. I read a gifted copy, but all opinions stated are my own.
Rafe is ex military and a model who is sick of the plastic bodies and the falseness of the people around him. He misses his brothers and Miss Ethel, the foster mother who raised him since he was 8 years old. Miss Ethel mentions a job that is right up his alley. He becomes the grounds keeper for a shut in. He is in for the surprise of his life.
Eleanor is the owner of the house and the shut in. She requests that he text her and demands her privacy. She doesn't want to be seen by anyone other than the few she lets into her life. She is proud, strong, but vulnerable. He ego has taken a huge hit and she is very self-conscious. She is an amazing character and I found myself admiring her and feeling for her as she struggled with her self-image.
Ms. Jordan's characters are so real. They have real insecurities and struggles and that's what draws me to her writing. These characters come to life on the pages and this story is sweet, heartbreaking, but also hopeful. I loved how she brought the two characters together. It was the perfect way for them to meet given the circumstances. The quotes throughout this book are also perfect in that they are very relevant to the story and only enhance it. I am hooked on these books. I can't wait to read the next one.
This story shows that beautiful is not what is outside but what is inside. Rafe was in the military and took park in a calendar shoot after this modelling contracts started coming in, after a while Rafe knew that he had had enough and wanted to go back home to his roots. When home he was offered a job doing the gardens of an estate and as this is something that he always enjoyed he took the job. Eleanor was a nurse in the military and was badly burned when an IED exploded, she then returns home to a life of seclusion. This Book is so emotional and shows how strong they both are even after everything that they have gone through. Can Rafe bring Eleanor out of the darkness that she is living in and show her that there is a life to live regardless of other people's opinions. This series is absolutely amazing and every book can be read as a standalone but I feel that you need to read the whole series to get the background history. Maryann is such an amazing author and her books are wrote with so much compassion even with difficult subjects, I have had the honour of reading her books for quite a long time and have never been disappointed. I definitely recommend you read this book and this series you will love them. I Voluntarily Reviewed an ARC Copy Of This Amazing Book.
"Rafe", second in the 'Heroes at Heart' series, is a modern-day inverted retelling of Beauty and the Beast. As in 'Zane' it combines fairytales, classic novels, and real life in a highly interesting way. The author, Maryann Jordan, clearly loves reading and knows what short extracts to use for maximum effect. Former soldier and current successful male model Rafe is at the end of his tether. He's lost interest in the modelling world and just wants out. When his contract ends he's back home in a jiffy. He's given himself the Summer months to figure out what he wants to do with his life. He's close to his foster mother, Miss Ethel, and she has just the thing to keep him occupied - live-in gardener for a reclusive lady. He's always loved gardening and, ensconced in a cottage on the expansive property, he gets to work. The lady in the big house remains invisible until one stormy day ... to say any more would be giving the game away. I felt it was more heavy-handed than 'Zane' but maybe that's because I kinda knew the way it would be structured. It has a strong tale to tell and does so with strong emotions. My eyes welled up several times but I currently have an eye infection so I'm blaming the Blepharitis! 'Rafe' is a standout in a crowded field. 4 solid Stars.
This lady here is a one clicker for me. I have loved every book she has ever put out even if it is out of my comfort zone. Rafe was no exception. This new series is absolutely amazing. Now to start before you even open up the book go get a box of tissues and some wine. Don't say I didn't warn you. We first meet Rafe in Zander's book and we were left waiting for his story. Boy, I was not disappointed. Rafe is former military who turned to be a model after posing in an Army calendar. Rafe is not happy with his life and has decided to go home and get back to his roots. When he gets home he takes on the job of a landscaper for the Bellamy House. Rafe believes that he is working for an older lady who has become a shut-in. But instead of an older woman, we have Eleanor. Eleanor is a young woman who has shut herself off from the world. At first, we don't know why but we know that in some way her appearance has caused her to lock herself away from society. This book is a rollercoaster of all the feelings. Yes you will cry, but man it will so be worth it in the end.
Rafe is an amazing story that will touch your heart, tear up and sigh at the same time. This series is aptly named Heroes at Heart because Rafe has the biggest heart of all. This is the second book in the series but I recommend you read Zander to learn about all of Miss Ethel's boys and see of their background in foster care. Rafe and Eleanor are perfectly matched for each other. Eleanor has emotional and physical pains to overcome while Rafe needs to truly believe in himself again. I love the fairy tale themes that run through these books they truly bring back my childhood listening to my Dad read us a bedtime story. Character development is phenomenal as always you truly understand these characters and their motivation for why the handle things the way they do. This story will truly make you son and need a box of tissues as you read but you will also laugh with joy as Rafe and Eleanor find their HEA ending. Maryann Jordan has once again pulled out all the stops and has me voraciously waiting for the next in this series.
I absolutely loved this latest book in the Heroes at Heart series!! This is the story of Rafe and Eleanor. Rafe now works as a model after leaving the army. He is getting tired of the modeling life and is looking to go back to his roots and go back home. He takes some time off to take a break and recharge. He needs something to do so his foster mom Miss Ethel suggests a gardener job. Eleanor is hiding in her home. Curious about the new gardener she sneaks glances at him but will never reveal herself. That all changes when a horrible storm happens and Rafe gets hurt. Eleanor leaves the safety of her home and rescues Rafe. What develops is surprising to both....a deep connection that they didn't bargain on. Eleanor has these walls up to protect herself and Rafe has every intention of tearing them down and seeing what could be between them. I loved everything about this book...it was such a great story and I would highly recommend it to everyone. I can't wait to read the next installment of the series...another 5 star read from the very talented Maryann Jordan. Well done!!!!
I have loved all of Ms. Jordan's books, but this series is truly touching my soul. The loose reference to the fairy tales and the stories are absolute perfection.
Rafe and Eleanor's story is one of incredible loss and tragedy and digging deep to overcome so much pain. This story definitely should be read with a box of tissue handy. The tale will run you through every emotion. Eleanor has so much strength and when you first meet her, you don't realize what an incredible person she is and what a strong woman she is. I loved Xander's book and Rafe's book just takes it to another level for me. The beauty and the beast play of this story was absolute perfection.
I love the group of guys that Ms. Ethel has raised. This is such a special group of stories. Ms. Jordan gets better with each book. I always think this one is my favorite and she always tops it the next time out. This is a definite must read series!
I loved this book. Loosely based on the classic Grimm's fairytale, Beauty and the Beast, Rafe is a sweet love story that shows how love can rise above insecurities and public ridicule. Rafe grew up from being a bullied adolescent in foster care to a gorgeous ex-Military man who gets recruited for a modeling career. When his career leaves him desiring more from his life, he returns to his roots and a surprising summer job that allows him to meet Eleanor. Because of devastating events in her own life, Eleanor shuts herself off from the world. She keeps her distance from her new employee, but a freak accident forces her to break down her defenses in order to help Rafe. The two begin a friendship that develops into something more, but the cruelty of others threatens their happily ever after. Don't worry! In true Maryann Jordan fashion, there is a happy ending, but the journey to that HEA is something readers will want to take.
The saying that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, has never been portrayed so beautifully as in Rafe. Rafe was raised in the system from the age of 10 and was lucky enough to be in a home filled with more love than any child could ask for. After 3 years as a model in the fake world of the beautiful, he decided to go back to his roots to find himself. Eleanor was raised in a wealthy, loving family who supported her choices in life. After serving as a nurse in the Army Reserves and being severely burned, her family is killed while trying to see her. She feels no one would want to see her so she becomes a recluse at her family home. What ensues between the two will have you laughing and crying. You'll be mad and hopeful all at the same time. This book will appeal to all romance lovers and is a must read.
The Heroes at Heart series by Maryann Jordan is a fairy tales for adults who still believe in happily ever afters. I love this series. In this book we meet Eleanor, mysterious and recluse. Eleanor suffers in the privacy of her own castle. Rafe handsome and successful model is unhappy and unsatisfied with his life. Wanting to get back to his roots and reconnect with his family he heads home. On the suggestion of his foster mom he takes a job gardening for a shut in he assumes is an elderly lady. Both Rafe and Eleanor are surprised by each other. Eleanor wants privacy of the walls she has built, but Rafe wants to tear down those walls...pushing his way in. This story is a sweet surprise and a tale as old as time....I hope you enjoy this play on Beauty and the Beast as much as I did.
Rafe by Maryann Jordan was a fantastic book, it had a bit of mystery some drama, it made you want to smile and yet brought you to tears. This had real emotions that just tugged at your heart strings. The story was well written and omg the characters were outstanding and very easy to believe what they were feeling. This is book two in the Heroes at Heart series and I have to say I think this is my favorite, I really enjoyed the whole story and couldn't put it down. It was a page turner and so much more. He is ready for his life to turn in a different direction, heading home is one way for him to reconnect with the ones he cares for and just maybe find what he is looking for. She has suffered from a few too many tragedies and has decided to withdraw from the world around her. Can she ever find her way back? She is looking for gardener, he looking for somewhere to work with nature. When circumstances bring them together there is an attraction that is unmistakable. There are some ups and downs with a few twists. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend this wonderful story.
ALL. THE. FREAKING. FEELS. This book made me choke up so BAD. It was beautiful, with a twist on a classic fairytale that left me in awe. It made me smile and cry...it was almost eerie but in a almost magical way. What a stunner!
I absolutely fell in love with Zander and I thought that book would remain my favorite in this new series, but no...Rafe took it to a whole NEW level. My heart got sucked in with this book. I LOOOOOVED the twisting plot and absolutely LOVED the characters. This is a unique fairy tale retelling that I think readers will fall head over heels for. Its a powerful, seductive, haunting story that is truly unforgettable!
Rafe gets a EMOTIONAL AND IRRESISTIBLE FIVE SHOOTING STARS!
I’ve loved all of Maryann Jordan’s book but this new series is just beyond everything! After leaving the army Rafe falls into modeling thanks to a calendar he posed for. Life as a model is getting old and he yearns to return to his roots. His foster mother gets him a job as a gardener something that’s close to his heart. Eleanor has been hiding in her family’s home feeling more like the beast then the beauty she is. Curious about the new groundskeeper but still hiding away it’s not until a storm will she step behind the curtain. When friendship turns into more not everyone from the past is happy. This is a beautiful story showing us that some scars are seen but some of the worse are inside!
