Nothing is as it seems... When Blane Blagden plunders his latest pirated ship, he claims the young female aboard as his prize only to discover the lust-inspiring woman is actually a cross-dressing man. Despite penetrating the disguise right away, Captain Blagden decides the only way to protect his treasure is to perpetrate another lie and demand his captive serve as his cabin boy. A man pretending to be a woman pretending to be a boy... Artist and poet Darran de Tourmatt prayed the pirates would be unwilling to defile an innocent. Unfortunately for him, they are. Or at least Captain Blagden is. The longer the captain keeps him close without claiming him, the more Darran wants to be defiled. But first, he'll have to admit to his masquerade. But Darran isn't the only one with a secret... An accidental spell reveals shocking truths, forcing the pair apart. Brokenhearted, Blagden vows to live out his life alone, but Darran is determined to bring them back together no matter what the cost. Just how far will Darran go for the sake of true love? This high seas swishbuckling tale has been rated slow burn, mildly kinky, and heavy on the romance. 34,000 words or 136 pages.

This story was released on Valentine’s day and I think it couldn’t be any more appropriate. 😊 The story is different from any of Bruce Rose’s usual stories since they tend to be much darker, angstier and kinkier. This book is way more fluffy, sweet and cute. Just like a tasty choco treat on Valentine’s. 😉

Darran is a runaway in disguise. To escape the lust of his stepfather, he had to run away from home dressing as a woman and hiding on the ship as a stowaway. When the ship was plundered by the notorious captain Bladgen, Darren prayed to all the gods that the pirates won’t defile his innocence. And to his surprise, the captain didn’t plunder his booty despite claiming him as a cabin boy. 😁 But the thing is as they got to be closer and closer, he wanted to desperately claimed by the handsome and fierce captain. 😉

Captain Bladgen was pleasantly surprised by discovering a beautiful woman as a stowaway when he plundered his latest ship. And to top his surprise, he actually found out that the beautiful woman in fact is a man. But that doesn’t stop Captain Bladgen from lusting after the boy. 😂 In fact, he wants more than bodily pleasure from the boy and the best way to achieve what he wants is to keep the boy at arm’s length and seduce him slowly in his wicked ways. 😉 But things didn’t exactly turn out the way he wished it would. 😭

While Darren was holding a secret, Captain has his own skeleton in the closet too. And boy, was that skeleton huge. 😁 After falling for each other despite not revealing their feelings, Captain and Darren was so cruelly separated by the ruthless fate. But Darren is not a quitter and our beautiful artist is determined to reunite with his fierce and handsome captain. If only things work out easy enough as he wanted. 🙏

The storyline is as I said, very cute, very fluffy and very sweet. 💗 I was thoroughly surprised by many twists and turns in the story. Despite being a Bruce Rose story, the smut is a bit on the low in this one. The MCs are decent and fun and interesting. And did I say the banters between Captain and Darran before they got separated are so wickedly funny, amusing and fun! 😁 This certainly is kind of a fairytale retelling with a lot of unexpected plot twists. 😌 I just wish Darren and Captain reunited soon rather than having to go through many hardships. The ending was sweet and heartwarming. ❤️ Definitely a comfort read for some quiet me-time. 😘

Favorite excerpts from the novel: 💙

“I will never willingly submit to the likes of you.” Up went that arrogant nose. And up went Captain Blagden’s cock. Come hell or high water, he would have this haughty boy whimpering in need while holding his own legs invitingly open.

“Haven’t you ever heard the one about looking a gift horse in the mouth?” “Haven’t you ever heard the one about something that seems too good to be true probably is?”

“You think pirates are lawless heathens with no moral fiber at all, don’t you?” “I confess that I think that of all men.”

“Because he belongs to me. Nothing and no one will ever take him from me but he himself.”

“I don’t think I can make you any more handsome than you are.” Captain Blagden kissed the tip of Darran’s nose. “Perfection is impossible to improve on.”

“The lighting is better up top.” “Aye.” The captain grinned. “I’ve always found the lighting better on top.” “Of the ship.” “That’s what I meant.” “No, it’s not, you lusty pirate you.” “I can’t help it.”

“Complete.” “What?” “I feel full, complete.” Darran met Blagden’s concerned gaze. “No pain. None at all. Only pleasure.”

“You expect me to attend your every need at all hours of the day and night?” “Aye.” “And in return?” “I shall endeavor to make you the happiest cabin boy in the world.” “I’m already there, my love.” Darran kissed him. “I’m already there.”

A classic Bruce Rose novel, Hidden Treasure is a unique and captivating story. The swish comes in the form of a young man pretending to be a girl pretending to be a cabin boy… well you’ll have to read it to get the full effect, but I promise this one has all the romance, humor, and hot, kinky sex I love in a Bruce Rose story plus his trademark heartfelt messages that always leave me smiling.

In an effort to escape his sleazy stepfather, Darran de Tourmatt, disguised as a young woman, hides aboard a ship which is promptly seized by pirates. Luckily for Darran, Captain Blagden is intrigued by his lovely young captive and decides to keep him. Darran is equally enthralled by the dashing pirate and the sparks begin to fly.

These two have the most charming banter, and as they grow more familiar with each other their flirting becomes endearingly romantic. The attraction blooms into passion and while Darran’s kinky side comes out, Blagden shows some real emotion. These two are so sweet together, when Darran tells Blagden, “‘If I had coin to pay you, I fear -- no, I know I would spend every last bit buying kisses from you,’" I absolutely melted.

Bruce Rose writes the innocent virgin/experienced older man scenario better than anyone I know, add in the silky panties, and shiver me timbers!

There’s a whimsical fantasy component to Hidden Treasure which I didn’t expect and really enjoyed. These events provide both characters the chance to dig deep into themselves; Darran discovers his confidence and determination while Blagden refocuses his priorities and finds he needs love too. These changes ensure when the couple are parted and reunite, it’s as equals.

Captain Blagden is a fascinating character and my new favorite book boyfriend. He’s completely comfortable in his own skin, and he views people the way I wish everyone could. Blagden encourages Darran to be himself and do what feels good, that he will accept him however he wants to be. When Darran asks for clarification on which version of himself the Captain prefers, Blagden says, “‘I like you, not your gender,’” and further clarifies, “‘I wish for you to be just as you are.’” What a great message!

The romance is sweet and passionate, and the story is creative and exciting; Hidden Treasure is an absolute pleasure and one book I’ll be adding to my favorites shelf

I have enjoyed many of Bruce’s books but this isn't my favorite genre. Definitely a case of me not the book! It was more fantasy and magic than just pirates. Cute, just not my cuppa.

EEEEE well this was a pleasant surprise! Love me some sexy pirate romances, and this was fun! AND then there was the surprise magic element that I did NOT see coming, and I enjoyed it even more!

The chemistry between Blagden and Darran was just yummy. Darran pretends to be a girl to save himself from the pirates, but Blagden sees right through that ruse. Instead, he suggests that Darran pass as his personal cabin boy, and let me tell you right here - manties alert! Yum!

They make a pinkie promise to each other, and I loved everything that came as a result from that. I loved their connection, how it grew, and I loved the passion between the two. It's a slow burn, and there is this whole "accidental spell" thing that happens (and I don't want to give anything away, but there's definitely a clue on the cover) and I was thoroughly entertained by this!

I hope there will be more in this series, some of the other pirates could use their own cabin boy, right?!

Hidden Treasure

I’m kicking myself for not reading this one months ago. It is definitely a hidden treasure. I pretty much devoured it in one sitting.

Highly recommend.
