Tessa Emily Hall is an award-winning author who wrote her debut novel when she was sixteen. She is now a multi-published author of both fiction and non-fiction inspirational yet authentic books for teens, including her upcoming release, LOVE YOUR SELFIE (October 2020, Ellie Claire). Tessa's passion for shedding light on clean entertainment and media for teens led her to a career as a Literary Agent at Cyle Young Literary Elite, YA Acquisitions Editor for Illuminate YA (LPC Imprint), and Founder/Editor of PursueMagazine.net. She's guilty of making way too many lattes and never finishing her to-read list. When her fingers aren’t flying 128 WPM across the keyboard, she can be found speaking to teens, teaching at writing conferences, attempting pilates, editing manuscripts, and acting in faith-based films. Her favorite way to procrastinate is to connect with readers is on her mailing list, social media (@tessaemilyhall), and website: www.tessaemilyhall.com.
Hall's debut non-fiction book is a collection of encouraging, short little devotionals. Each one includes a topic bible verse, a couple paragraph long encouragement, a quote, and a short prayer. Hall writes with a personal tone that makes you feel like you are having a conversation over coffee. Speaking of which, all the coffee imagery is so much fun for a coffee lover! Not to mention that adorable cover!
All in all, if you are looking for a short and to-the-point daily devotional, definitely check this one out!
FTC disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Recommendation: Every girl who does or doesn't need a devotional!
My thoughts: I requested this from NetGalley AND got it for my birthday! Well, anyway I haven't read all of the devos yet, but I had to share my review! This is the best devotional I've found/read before and perfect for any girl (Even if she doesn't like coffee like me!) They are short devos, that makes me think about the lesson, and I didn't forget it right after I read it like most devotionals I've read. And I hope you'll check it out!
(I received this book from NetGalley for my honest review and I am truly happy to provide it!)
This was such a sweet and encouraging little book! I really loved how it was divided up into sections, depending on what you were looking for. It's getting harder and harder to find honest, up-front devotionals for teen girls, but this one certainly fit the bill. We need more like this in Christian literature. I absolutely enjoyed it, and would love to read more by Ms. Hall.
This was the first devotional I've read geared for teens that did not just stay surface deep. Hall tackled some very tough subjects. While some of this devotional was a bit too young for me, I really did appreciate it. Even if it did take me seven months to get through it. ;)
Coffee Shop Devos is such an encouraging devotional collection!
I love the way Tessa uses coffee to connect with her audience. When I was a teen, we had several Bible studies at our local coffee shop and it was always the highlight of my week; coffee and Jesus just go together!
In this devo, girls can be encouraged by scripture as well as some of Tessa's own personal stories. They will be able to relate to things such as how to honor their parents, how to push through some troubling circumstances, and even how to look at God as a friend through the good times, just as much as we go to Him during the bad.
The devos are short and sweet. With one main scripture to focus on, a story or commentary from Tessa, a challenge, and a prayer. The book is not intended to be read through from front to cover, but rather for you to pick "from the menu" which devo you need that day. If you're feeling happy, order yourself an Espresso. Having trouble being yourself? A Frappe is calling your name. Each section has a coffee recipe as well as different devotionals for you to work through so you'll always find what you need for the day.
I really, really love this book and recommend it to teen girls who are looking to start a study, or even just to go through it by oneself. I give it 5 out of 5 stars!
I received this book from the author for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are entirely my own.
This is a go-to devotional guide for teen girls! If you know or are a teen girl who desires to pursue and grow in your relationship with Jesus and develop a greater thirst for God's Word, then let this devotional stir you on to greater time in the Word!
This was a great devotional for teen girls! Tessa is very down to earth, and I really enjoyed her writing style and seeing a glimpse into her life and her struggles. She was very relatable and encouraging in my own struggles!

Can I just say that the setup of this book is really unique? Each set of devotionals is organized by different types of coffee—frappes, lattes, americanos, etc. As this setup might suggest, the book is very conversational. Each devotional is fairly short, so it’s nothing too daunting to sit down and read one every morning. I’d definitely recommend this to any teen girls looking for a friendly set of devotionals that encourage a deeper relationship with Jesus.
The synopsis of the book calls it “a warm atmosphere” and I have to agree with that. The style of each entry is friendly and down-to-earth. Each devotion has the following sections:
Scripture to sip on Let’s chat about it Let’s think about it Let’s pray about it Today’s dare A shot of inspiration Join the convo
Each reading has a single Bible verse and then encouragement related to that verse and challenges to help deepen your relationship with God. I like the “Join the convo” idea. Each day there is a discussion question that you are encouraged to answer on social media (along with a picture of your drink of the day). So you can converse with others about how God is working in your life. Nice!
The devotionals are grouped in such a way to make it easy to find what you need for the day. Some examples of the groupings are:
Latte – Comfort in Trials Coffee – Motivation for the Journey Frappe – Encouragement to Be Yourself Decaf – Finding Rest As a bonus for those of you who actually drink coffee, there are a number of recipes for making your own.
Just remember, ladies, that a single Bible verse each day is not enough to feed your spirit and keep you strong. Use this book, get encouragement from it, but please do not let it replace daily reading of Scripture on your own!
I’m extremely picky when it comes to devotionals, but “Coffee Shop Devos” by Tessa Emily Hall is one I would highly recommend for teenage girls. What makes this devotional stand out from others is that the author breaks her chapters into topics and is designed for the reader to start in a topic of where they’re at in that particular moment.
Each chapter or section is set up as a menu as if you were going into a physical coffee shop. The author even includes recipes that sound delicious. If you’re like me and you aren’t a coffee drinker, no worries because you don’t have to enjoy coffee to enjoy this one.
Each devotional is short, only a page or two long. There is a key verse, a short personal story, a dare or challenge that brings the topic into a daily application. Dares range from a mixture of different things such as sometimes it will be to listen to a song and then spend some quiet time with God, looking up specific scriptures about the topic, beginning a prayer journal, and so much more.
The author also has thought-provoking questions and challenges girls to share on social media. They are great conversation starters whether you use it as a group or individually. But, most important of all, Tessa points her readers to grow in their relationships with God.
While this is geared for teens, most of the devos that I’ve read in the book would be perfect for anyone of any age. I’m 26 and I’m enjoying every moment of it! Highly recommended!

Over the years I was subject to many girls’ devotionals that never seemed to teach anything. They talked down to me, as if I was immature and only interested in boys and makeup (which I wasn’t). I longed for something more, for someone to take me seriously and to TEACH me.
When Tessa announced her Coffee Shop Devos, I was thrilled. If it was anything like her other work, I knew it was going to be good.
Tessa’s devos are honest, simple, and sweet. She’s personal with you, in a way I’ve never seen in a devotional.
I liked how Tessa wove the coffee theme into the book, with each section dedicated to a different coffee drink and a different need (ex. the fifth section is "Macchiato--Healing for Heartache.”).
Other examples are: Mocha—Inspiration for the Soul Latte—Comfort in Trials Espresso—Joy for Each Moment. Cappuccino—All About Relationships
I also really enjoyed the quotes that were included at the end of each devotional—often they were just what I needed and they were uplifting and encouraging.
Tessa’s Coffee Shop Devos are food for your soul, giving you a little bit of everything that you need to get you through your day. From lessons on God’s never-failing love, the seasons of life, and trusting in God’s plan, to transforming the trash and living to our greatest potential, Coffee Shop Devos is a pick-me-up that any young lady can glean encouragement from. It makes the perfect gift for the friend or sister in your life—the perfect guide to help them in the New Year, and for many years to come.
I really enjoyed this devotional. Each day shares a "Scripture to sip on" and then "Let's Chat about It", "Let's Think about It", "Let's Pray about it", "Today's Dare" and "A Shot of Inspiration". The very last thing is to Join the convo! by posing a question that you can post on social media and hashtagging #CoffeeShopDevos!
I really felt this was a very well thought out Devotional for Teen Girls. First they don't have a lot of time because they are running from one activity to the next, doing homework, talking on the phone.... We want them to have a devotional time and the best time for that is different for everyone! I've always felt the best time for it is in the morning because it sets my day out right... This is the perfect length to do over coffee before heading out the door. The topics are very relatable to teens. I say that because it is rare to find a devotional written by an adult geared for teens that is relatable due to generational differences among other things. This would be a great stocking stuffer this Christmas... Enjoy!

Excellent daily devotional! Tessa writes in a clear and engaging way, and I definitely think that Coffee Shop Devos can help draw teen girls closer to God. Each devotional includes a couple of things like: Bible verses, quotes, encouragement, and more. Plus, you get coffee recipes- I really love that Tessa includes these- I think it would be so much fun to get together with a group of girls, make some coffee, and read this book! Overall, a well-written and encouraging devotional that I think would be suitable for any teen girl!
To begin with, a caveat about me: I tend not to enjoy devotionals. When I was a teenager, I was often frustrated with devotional books for my age group because they either (1) talked down to me and assumed a more immature faith than I had, or (2) assumed I was, like many girls my age, interested in boys and clothes and makeup (which I wasn't). I chose to read this book because I enjoy Tessa's writing and guessed (rightly) that her perspective would be one that teenage me would have related to.
This book was not like those others that frustrated me. Though topics like romantic relationships and physical appearance are covered, the focus is not on these things but rather on what Tessa states is an invitation "into a conversation with Jesus." Her writing style is very personal. This book reads almost like a series of letters from an older sister to younger ones, in that Tessa uses personal experiences from her own life and a conversational tone. I know I would have enjoyed this as a teenager.
Therefore, just as coffee is not a substitute for a meal, so Tessa also communicates that these devotions are meant not to replace but rather to inspire deeper fellowship with God. Each short devotion provides opportunities for this with the following sections: "Scripture to sip on" (a passage from the Bible that relates to that entry's theme), "Let's Chat About It" (the main portion of the devotion), "Let's Think About It" (a space for the reader to respond), "Let's Pray About It" (a model prayer that relates to the devotion), "Today's Dare" (an idea for something the reader can do to put what she learned into practice), "A Shot of Inspiration" (a quote or Bible verse), and "Join the convo!" (a higher-level question and an opportunity to discuss with others).
I liked how Tessa integrated the coffee theme into the book, with each section dedicated to a different coffee drink and a different need (for example, the fourth section is "Frappe," for "Encouragement to Be Yourself"). I will definitely be trying out those coffee recipes!
I would recommend this book for young teens, particularly ages 13-15.

I picked this book as the current read for my teen girl's small group. I love that each devo is short and sweet yet offers a couple questions that get you thinking a bit deeper. It makes it a great book for my girls who are just learning/trying to make daily time in God's Word a habit.
I also think its cool that it ends with an interactive point for the girls to take to their social media and continue the conversation. We have used this on our group's facebook page for the girls to have a chance to chat about what they are reading each day.
The teen girls in my group have only shared good things about the devo. They love the look, layout and coffee recipes.
Definitely a good daily devotional for teen girls. Especially those getting started in this spiritual discipline.
I'm finding it really hard to review this devotional, because I am so not the target audience. When I first requested the ARC from Netgalley, the book didn't have its full title yet, so I just saw "Coffee Shop Devos"... and nothing about it being for teens. Not the fault of the book at all, but I had to readjust my expectations somewhat.
That being said, I still felt like I got a lot out of the devotional. Granted, there were some I skipped, because they simply weren't relevant to me at this point in my life, but as a whole, I liked more than I disliked. Some were very superficial, but others really made me think. Had I been either 20-25 years younger or a much "newer" Christian than I am, I think I would have found it very relevant.
Our family enjoyed this devotional a lot. (My teenagers -loved- the coffee recipes. ❤️) First of all, you can’t tell by the picture, but this book is big. There are 10 sections with a theme (and themed recipe) for each. Each section has around 18 days of devotions, so this would be a great treat to start for the school year for homeschool parents or before school devotions for mothers of girls.
I personally found the messages applicable to all ages & I enjoyed reading them with my girls. The stories are honest & insightful and the questions/ journal prompts/ and quotes are just excellent material to think on through the day. (Or even for journaling at bedtime) I would definitely recommend this book for mothers of teen and tween girls & it goes right with this author’s clean YA novels in the Purple Moon series. #CoffeeLove
