You can find her nose deep into a book when not whacking away her laptop's keyboard or scribbling away in red ink in weird looking engineering drawings.
Her first published short story featured in an anthology. On an impulse, she decided to take part in Amazon Kindle Wordsworthy contest and published her first solo book - A short story. She is currently writing a novella, a novel and a collection of short stories, all of which she aims to publish before her curly hair turns completely white and eventually become all straight.
The author asked if I could review this book. I have only accepted one review-copy book before , from another author's request. And since then I have decided to never review another book from random requests from authors. But this one was only 12 pages so I decided to accept this request. The book was not a satisfying read. The plot just doesn't seem to be well thought out , but again I won't blame the author since it was stated that this story was written for a contest with time constraints. This is as its title indicates , a story of an accident, well, more than one accident actually, in fact , it contains way too many accidents than a reader could expect in 12 pages. That's were it lost me, in my opinion. (its very hard for me to give negative reviews to these upcoming authors, especially after receiving a free copy from them, so from now on I will not get myself into these obligations).
This 12 page long book is a mix of suspense, romance and horror all mixed together. The author has tried to put in all the elements and tried to narrate a story. When i was approached for a review, I was intrigued by the fact that whether it can be interesting enough. While it did hold my interest, the story ended abruptly and I was a tad disappointed. This might be because the story was restricted by its length. Cannot comment on the characters as there was only so much matter in the book. This being a debut, the author holds promise and would hopefully write a full length book in the future.
The Accident is a story about an accident which changed the life of two people. In the eyes of the law, the accident happened by the ignorance of the driver and killed a person along with the lady driving the car.
The Accident is a short story of twelve pages. It is a short thriller which ends on a cliffhanger and leaves you wanting more. I love the plot of the story, it is brilliant. The story completes a full circle and ends where it starts. It is a story of four individuals collided by fate.
The story has more to say. An element of suspense with an unexpected ending. Best for a quick read. A good, engaging and enthralling read.
I know Shree ever since I read her detailed, wonderful review of one of the most well-written books I've read—Letters from an Indian Summer. From that moment, I had wanted to send her my book when it came out. I did, and I am really happy that she liked my writing style, although she found the story too predictable for her liking.
Anyway, after reviewing my book, she informed me about a short story that she had written and submitted to a short story contest organized by Amazon KDP, quite similar to the Amazon KDP Pen To Publish contest in which I was selected as a Finalist myself. I agreed and downloaded the book. Actually, I had a couple of books in the pipeline before her book, but as soon as I read a couple of pages, I was hooked, and the narrative forced me to finish reading the book in one go.
I loved her writing style, characterization, and plotting. It gripped me and didn't allow me to let go of the book. The language is lucid and stylish. I loved how she built the characters. Despite being a short story, she has fleshed them out perfectly, with sufficient backstories. Also, she has religiously followed the show-don't-tell rule and weaved the backstories and memories beautifully with the narrative. Kudos for that as well.
The flow of the story was good, and I never knew when I reached the end. The ending was very unexpected, though. I was reading it at night, and it spooked me out. Although it did feel abrupt and strange and a bit unsatisfying, it wasn't badly written.
I did not find any grammatical errors except for a couple of punctuation errors here and there. Some of the dialogues seemed a bit strange and unrealistic. However, apart from these minor errors, this is a very well-written and enjoyable short story.
A short story about the supernatural world, a theme that has not been explored much and can get tricky. The story is simple, that includes the plot as well as the writing style. It kept me engaged, even though the story line was the usual one. There's a little problem with the transition but that can be ignored. The plot twist is definitely unexpected and left me in splits. Overall an entertaining read.
This is the first time I accidentally read a paranormal fiction at night!! Okay, you can call me a faint-hearted person but I did have a tough time going to sleep, I kept seeing the book cover and the road and the people the author had described on the road. And I am firm that my choice of reading such books during the daytime is right. A few typos did pull me out of the book but nothing major and the story holds the reader. The ending is such a twist that I had to read it again to be sure! Shree has woven the love of two couples within an accident. The love she describes is sweet and the kinds we find rarely. It also impacts the change that occurs more. The accident that changes their lives and how the couples get entwined. I liked the premise of the story. I hope to read more from this author. Nice, fast read with a good surprise at the end. (Good in a scary way)
The Accident by Shree Janani is a 12 Page short read. The story starts off as a crisis story of a middle age businessman mourning a death. As the story progresses you see a different dimension to the story and the shift in genre. The pace was fast and it won't let you feel lagged. The writing is crisp and to the point.
Having said that, I felt the story was too short. I would love to see more of it. The author can very well take this as a prelude to expanding the story. Although the characters are less, as a reader I am intrigued to know more about them. The story gave a lot of room for interpretation and scope. Hope author takes this into consideration and work on an expansion.
The Accident by Shree Janani - An Induced Thriller @shreejanani
There are many aspects to The Accident by Shree Janani. It is just a 12-page story. Without undermining the capabilities of writing skills of the author, the story is short and abrupt. Obviously, in 12 pages it is the best you could produce. It has love, intensity, suspense, thrill, shock, grief, and paranormal. Definitely, there is an element of curiosity that remains with you while passing through every page of the story. And that remains until the end. But at the end, you would feel something is missing. And probably, like me would try to join the dots. But I could not. Maybe there is no point in finding out the gaps and enjoy the story as it is. Of course, it gives you a shock. And makes you think why and how even after finishing the story. That is the power of writing.
The Accident is a story of Raghu, a billionaire businessman. Raghu and his wife Rini were living a wonderful life together. Having no child for 15 years despite a happy marriage was a unanimous decision for whatsoever reasons. All of a sudden, after 15 years, it becomes a point of an argument. That argument triggers an aggression and finally results in a disaster. Coincidently, a similar kind of situation arises between another couple living in the same city. And that leads to a double disaster. This is where the story takes turns and changes Raghu's life altogether. The same thing happens with Anusha, wife of Ashok. Anusha and Ashok is the other couple. If you spread the story on a blank canvas, you will find many question marks here and there.
I think the author is quite clear about those question marks in mind. But maybe couldn't express them well in the story. But that is just a beginning. There is a lot of scopes and a better set of stories are in store for future from the author. The Accident is just a first step of a long journey of writing from this promising author.
Ah! such a twisted ending... The story started off with the difficulties of a middle-aged man and later moved to a middle-aged woman. I was expecting it to be a Cliched love story which we see in Tamil Cinema but-but it was so different. It was all connected throughout the end. A very well written short-story and I personally see a lot of scope for expanding it to a novel. Hoping to read that if it gets published. Please do read this book and I'm pretty sure you will be dumbfounded when you finish it.
Oh My, What a punch in a story of 12 pages. A billionaire business man who has lost his wife in an accident meets Anusha, the wife of the man who causes the accident and all of a sudden there's an ending that was totally unexpected with a supernatural twist. Superb writing because of which I was left with wanting more.Being a reader who wants all her i's dotted and t's crossed, I am left with blinders and made to ask myself WHY?!?? Why these 2 families, why that ending , why a child...so many WHYs? All those readers who loves thrillers go ahead and read it. You are in for a treat!
I picked this book up thinking it will be a quick read. I had never expected it to be so engrossing. I was lost in the pages and hated it when the story ended. I really wish the author makes a full fledged novel out of this story line. In a few words, the author has managed pathos a fear beautifully. Kudos!
'The Accident' by Shree Janani is a thrilling story that can keep you at the edge of your seats till the end. The anticipation of what would happen next and the suspense around the accident are maintained well throughout. I liked the way the author had narrated the story, with oodles of emotion and mystery spread evenly.
I expected a different ending, where the pair would end up together and adopt the child. But it was an unexpected twist! I loved it.
Eagerly waiting for more such thrilling stories from Shree Janani.
I learned about this book on Goodreads and read it using Kindle Unlimited. The Accident is a very short story about a serendipitous meeting between the spouses of a pair of accident victims. The writing is fine, but I felt like the beginning of the story was missing. Including the moments before the accident and the event itself would have made the story better.
I am not someone who reads short stories often, though I’ll give one a chance once in a blue moon or pick up an anthology if I know the author’s work. I’m happy that I did give this one a try because it was gripping and well-written.
I suspected ‘foul play’ straight away, had this niggling, nagging feeling at the back of my mind while reading – and I was right, but only to some extent. The ending still took me by surprise, and left me yearning for more. There are all sorts of open possibilities and riddles to be solved, and I appreciate it when a story is so thought-provoking. The characters, though only sketched, came alive and were interestingly connected. In some places, the story could have been edited a little better, but it took nothing away from its gripping content.
The author managed to hook me, shine a light on some critical issues, and leave me continuing the story in my own way. I hope she’ll continue writing.
Honestly, when I was approached by someone to do an honest review of a 12 page long book, I was intrigued. A story, that too a thriller (my favorite genre), only 12 pages long? How was it possible? That question made me read it. As this review book was for an honest review I would like to say that I was disappointed in it. I can understand that you can't actually show a plot /character development in it but mixing up thriller with horror just at the last second was not the right choice. Sure, the story pulled me in but just as it did, it ended abruptly. I am sure the author can do much better with this story if the constraint of 12 page was not there. I would recommend the author to take her time and work more on the story, it could turn out great!
What was I expecting and this story turned out completely different from that...it is an amazing thriller with elements of supernatural mixed with it..when we read it we think a bit of love in it but to my surprise story was completely different....there are things happening which cannot be explained...u ll be hooked to know what's happens ahead but than the story ends...I want more of it... thanks to the author for letting me know about this book and giving me a chance to read
The story has an open ending, which leaves you wanting for more. It starts off as a normal story, with a widower attending a wedding, he ends up reminiscing his marriage. A chance encounter with a lady, the moment they understand the connection between them. Then comes the totally unexpected Climax, I had to go back to read the last pages, to make sure that this was all.A short thrilling read, I enjoyed it
How to pack in a whole story within a few pages? This author has done it with amazing impact. Hats off Shree Janani. I truly hope this is the first of many to come. I like your writing style
Short, fast-paced and a bit of paranormal suspense. It was an excellent read and it has left me with more questions. It would be fun to read this as a longer novella.
I always love it when fellow bibliophiles that I met online write a book or a story and approach me to review it. So when Shree Janani contacted me about her short story, The Accident, I was glad to hear about it because: 1) I love supporting my online bibliophile buddies and 2) the story is 12 pages short (or long). I and no idea what to expect from the story, but what I got left me feeling surprised, awestruck and frightened to the last nerve in my body.
The Accident is a story about how the lives of four people intermingle and come to the same point where fate has something planned for them. Ravi and his wife Rini, Anusha and her husband Ashok are the four people around whom this story revolves. And while the story itself is super duper interesting, I would have- had the story been longer, of course or if the author decides to ever write more- loved more insides into the lives of our characters, which seemed just as interesting.
I was not prepared for the spine-chilling ending that this book had, because it made me want to shut it and never open it again. It literally horrified the shit out of me. And that's a positive because I don't normally get frightened while reading. But the way Shree Janani ended her story was insanely incredible. Having said that, however, I would have loved to know more about it.
Overall, The Accident is a great read for anytime you're in the mood to get terrified with an abrupt but well done ending. With elements of drama, thriller, supernatural and horror, this story is packed with action that's bound to leave the reader wanting more. Barely an half an hour read, this one will keep you entertained for the short while that it will remain with you.
*Note: A copy of this book was provided by Shree Janani in exchange for an honest review. We thank them.
Once in a while, one comes across a story which blows you away literally. It makes you feel wanting for more and also perplexed. The Accident by Shree Janani is one such story. I had to read it twice, especially the last page to be sure that I read it right. Mind-blowing, hats off to the author for such an awesome, supernatural story. Totally loved it.
A good short read. Got this on Kindle Unlimited. The book is very short. So the character building is adequate for a book of this length. The main plot involves a mix of suspense and horror. Some loose ends could have been tied up in the book. The initial part has way too much description. The ending is sort of abrupt but the main plot line is good. But all in all, a nice short read.
The Accident (Review Copy) . A very short read (just 12 pages), which falls into thriller and supernatural genre. A very tricky combination to experiment with, and unluckily, it didn’t go well. Although the writer managed to keep the curiosity level up to some extent, the story didn’t feel complete. The abrupt ending and an improper story structure are its drawbacks. Let’s hope for a more polished and refined future works from the author.
