Orishok is the last of his kind — a valo shaped by the Creators to embody death. He’s stood vigil over his people for centuries, watching them fade away, one by one succumbing to the entropic energies they hold inside. With his slightest touch unwillingly bringing death to all living things, he has remained isolated in his people’s city, his heart as empty as the buildings around him…until a pale, slight female arrives and shakes the foundations of his world.
GIVER OF LIFE…

After waking up alone and bloodied, but somehow unharmed, she seeks shelter in an abandoned city — where she discovers an ancient, wondrous mystery. She fell from the sky and into his lonely existence. Convicted of murders she did not commit, Quinn Dalton’s life on an interstellar penitentiary was a living Hell as she was used as a lab rat for heinous experiments. Freedom came when the ship was destroyed and she miraculously finds herself alive after literally falling onto a seemingly deserted alien planet. What she discovers are the ruins of an ancient city filled with stone statues throughout and one giant warrior tasked with guarding the remains of his dead people.
Orishok has existed alone, his heart dead until the small and fragile female awakens his emotions long gone cold by breaking the statute of the beast who cursed him to his existence.
Together, Orishok and Quinn break the barriers of communication, but can Quinn survive a being who brings death to all he touches? Has she found more than she could have dreamed of on this strange new world? Will Orishok find his heart awakened to the life he once knew? Together they could make this world their personal paradise, or will it be just another prison for Quinn?
Tiffany Roberts’ UNDYING is part fantasy, part science fiction and part romantic awakenings for two beings brought together by chance. Feel this world come alive, walk through streets of statutes and learn both the wonder and sadness each holds as their story is told by Orishok.
There are no moments of over the top rapid-fire action, no battle scenes, just two beings reaching out to each other, learning to communicate and trust while sharing companionship to stave off the loneliness of their lives. Sometimes it takes Fate to bring out the beauty in the beast and give a chance for a new life for a woman with no hope.
Once again, Tiffany Roberts brings two perspectives to their writing that blends into one well-told and well-balanced tale with strong, well defined characters, a simple plot that flows along page after page until we forget we are not there, living alongside Orishok and Quinn!
I received a complimentary edition from Tiffany Roberts! This book stands alone, but is a stellar addition to this multi-author series!
Series: Valos of Sonhadra - Book 7 Publication Date: February 11, 2018 Publisher: Tiffany Roberts Genre: Science Fiction | Romance Print Length: 164 pages Available from: Amazon For Reviews & More: http://tometender.blogspot.com
I had mixed feelings when I finished this book but overall I really liked it. The problem comes in when after telling me a fairly detailed story and capturing my attention the last 20% or so felt like it was rushed and left me with a bushel load of questions (most of which I can't even write since they all pertain to the ending chapters).
I do like the idea of the same theme of surviving on a hostile alien world and finding some sort of HEA in each book from several different authors, many times I don't care for such experiments but the basic plot does appeal to me so I might try a couple of the others just to see how it goes.
Bottom Line: 5 Stars story that was reduced to 4 Stars by so many questions that did not get answered for my OCD :)
Promising beginning, not the best work by them though
Quinn was a good FMC with a difficult past and an even worse present - trapped on a dangerous planet alone after a crash. Her man was all depressed loneliness and they were able to help each other feel seen again. That part was good. I didn’t super love the lore behind this specific Valos novella. The book was just kinda meh.
Spice: 3/5
Triggers: murder, involuntary medical experimentation, imprisonment, death, violence, gore, mention of sexual harassment, grief, discussion of slavery
I voluntarily received a copy of Undying in exchange for an honest review. Once again I didn’t read the blurb from Tiffany Roberts because I will read anything from this duo of authors. But I did understand that this is part of a bigger series that a whole slew of authors are contributing too.
Not going to lie, I want to read them all! The basic premise behind the series is a prison ship crashes on a primitive planet, and the female survivors are found by the Valos. Who at least in book 7, are stone-like man/creature who can morph into an incredible scary creature covered in a spiked armor exoskeleton.
Once again in Undying, Tiffany Roberts has a way of bringing such depth and realism to their characters that as I got to know them, they became almost real. Quinn has a resilience, such a kind heart that It was hard not to fall in love with her. Orishok is the ultimate protector. He is tasked with watching over his people, but when Quinn comes, he finds a new purpose in life.
Their story was heartfelt and once again proves that love knows no bounds. The only issue I had with the entire thing was I wanted more of the backstory on the state of the Valos and the crash; perhaps I will get it in the other books? Which I will be reading!
Undying (Valos of Sonhadra #7) is receiving 5 Boundless stars, I loved it and can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I love my alien books!
After the prison ship she has been held captive on crash lands, Quinn wakes up on a strange planet covered in blood and in fear for her safety. She heads away from the terrifying sounds of beasts in the forest and finds herself in a city of ruins. Filled with humanoid sculptures made of rock, she doesn’t know what happened just that she appears to be the only living being around. That is until she knocks over a giant stature and meeting the guardian of behmet.... orishock.
Orishock has been alone for so long, guarding over his fellow valos who have turned to stone. He is death...alone and unfeeling for such a long time until Quinn knocked over the stature of the cruel monster that altered him and his people, and in the process revealing what was stolen from him so long ago... his heartstone.
Living and learning together, Quinn soon adapts to the harsh world and it’s strange guardian. Quinn hates her time on the concord, filled with pain and experiments, but she cannot be sad that it has changed her...those changes have given her more than she could ever believe.
Beautifully written and so original in its concept and creation this fabulous writer duo continue to bring to life a intimidating, harsh but beautiful world that is Sonhadra
If you had a long day, and you just want to curl up with a glass of wine or a cup of hot chocolate on the armchair with a lovely book to unwind, this is the book for you. No complicated plots, no love triangles, no sudden deaths of a well-loved character, no BDSM, just a simple love story between 2 characters who had gone through a lot of shit in life.
The story progresses at a steady and comfortable pace where Quinn and Orishok learn more about each other, fall in love, explore the beautiful city ruins and build a home together out of the ruins. It can be read in about three hours uninterrupted on a lovely weekend night. Nothing overly dramatic because the characters had gone through enough. It's their turn for peace and happiness. There's a nice dose of steamy scenes between the characters too. No need to wait until the end of the book for the action to happen.
I enjoyed the book thoroughly. Mostly because it fulfilled my need for a quick getaway from reality and topped up my happy tank pretty well after reading the book. I get all my emotional needs met and I didn't need to try to hide somewhere from my kids in order to try to complete reading the book.
I'm eager to pick up the entire series to see how they are connected.
Oh, man. All of the Valos have drawn the short end of the stick as far as their existences after the Creators did their things and abandoned them, but Orishok really got beaten down by things. I mean...MAN. Sucks to be both the embodiment of death and totally alone in his city.
Good thing Quinn found her way to him. Not only did the experiments done to her give her a measure of immunity against his deadly touch, but she's a genuinely nice person and Orishok deserves someone like that. You know, because of the abandonment and standing vigil over his dead brethren thing.
Given poor Orishok's inability to touch living things, it takes a while (and a mishap or two) before things start heating up between the two of them. Mental realignments take time, you know.
I'm still digging this world and all the weird, deadly things that the survivors of the Concord are running across. *thumbs up*
This was unlike anything I've ever read! In so many good ways!
It definitely had those moments with similar ideas and emotions we've read about, but the way they were executed was unlike anything I've read.
There hasn't been a book (that I can think of to date) that didn't involve a cast of characters. Anywhere from friends, to parents, enemies to heroes/sidekicks. The settings usually always involved more then just the hero and heroine. Until now.
Literally, the entire book, aside for maybe 3-4 pages revolved strictly around our two MC's. It was just the two of them against their surroundings (okay, except maybe some scary looking beasts but for point making purposes I'm excluding them because...reasons).
It was pure perfection, and I know I use that a lot but it really was. I feel like as a reader I got to understand them-just them-on a deeper level. Really, they didn't have anyone else to worry about except themselves so I feel like we got to see a side of them we wouldn't have had they had family or friends, a world to go back to.
In addition to this we get to see so much character growth, and despite being, well, different beings, they were more similar then I think they even thought they were. Here we have two characters that were forcibly molded into something they had no say in being, yet they took it and literally made the best of it! There were no second thoughts or doubts. There wasn't much of any fear either! No swords needed here! These characters showed so much strength in just being themselves, it was truly admirable and made me feel so incredibly attached to them.
Why not the full 5 stars? While I appreciate that initially we have no idea why/how Quinn got to be where she is, I do realize that what better way to describe it all to us would be to just tell it to us but the paragraphs were a bit tedious. I don't do long explanatory paragraphs. They drag me down, and while others may appreciate learning about all of the world/customs/past inhabitants (don't get me wrong, I do to) but paragraph after paragraph bores me. Maybe I should have cared more about what happened to the people but I didn't. I was too focused on our two MC's (I don't refer to them by name cause I can't remember how to spells his lol)
No mater, this is my second book by Tiffany Roberts and I won't be stopping at this one! Easily a new favorite author!
This was the second book in the Valos universe that I read, but I didn't realize that the rules about the valos could/would be different for each book because they were based on different "elements" until almost halfway, which made it confusing to me until I started focusing that this was its own story that didn't necessarily share all the same rules as the first book that I read, Shadowed (where the valos were shadow ghosts that could shift forms).
I enjoyed the OP nature of the main couple, but I felt the pacing was a bit off, and there wasn't really much of a plot, just the realization of the couple that they . However, while this book is a standalone, it seems that the author wrote a sequel standalone sharing the same setting in Unleashed, which I plan on reading.
The Valos of Sonhadra series is a Sci-Fi alien romance with each of the 9 books in the series being told by a different author. If you have a favourite author of the bunch and don't want to read them all don't worry, each book can be read as a standalone. The background story for each book is the same, the heroine for nefarious and various reasons has been locked away in a prison ship and being experimented on by scientists. The experimentation changes each of the heroines in some way, which becomes massively useful when the prison ship crash lands on an unfamiliar planet. That's when the heroine starts to meet the natives. Sonhadra, the planet they have landed on, is inhabited by different factions of valos. The valos all have unique abilities and appearances...and most of them haven't seen a female in a long long time.
Undying by Tiffany Roberts Valos of Sonhadra #7 3.5 Stars
Wins the Award for Best Superpower of the Series
When you can't die why not hook up with death? Or at least the valos who kills everything he touches...apart from her. Orishok is the last in his race and is the caretaker of his now dead race and their city. His touch is death to everyone but Quinn the female who stumbled into his city. Undying gives us another sweet and sexy romance as Quinn and Orishok fall in love and find a very delicious use for the bath house.
Overall thoughts: Another good instalment into the series
I really struggled with this one. The biggest positive of this book is that, as per other books of Tiffany Roberts, the world building is meticulous. The flip side though is that there is so much world building very little is given to plot development. I kept waiting for something to happen but up until about 85% all I read about was the world, the inner thoughts of the character and what they did and say in their day to day life in that world. There are not any supporting characters which really doesn’t help when the 2 main characters are kind of bland and the words they say to each other are usually repetitive.
Having said this, I will keep reading this writing duo’s other books, because I still have faith that as they have written a sci-fi romance as wonderful as Duetwalker, they will surely keep writing great stories that wrench your heart and make you feel all the things you can only feel when a book draws you in so completely.
Cool! I was hoping for some previous characters to come say hi because there were only TWO of them. Not that there is anything wrong with that but I just recently binged on the previous books with their reverse harem and merrier fleshed-out personalities heroes loving their heroine making her feel precious as their queen of the universe. After those books, this kind of felt lonely. Don’t get me wrong. The story is absolutely beautiful and I enjoyed it much 😋 It had that gothy mournful vibes but still retained that colorful vibrant setting of the planet Sonhadra.
Absolutely loved this book. Not only was the romance extremely well-written, but the setting had a life of its own that added so much depth to the story. I need to read the rest of the Valos books now.
Disclaimer -- I proofread it, but would have loved it even if I hadn't.
Tiffany Roberts writing has been hit and miss for me at times, but this was defiantly a big hit for me.. There is a quietness and a subtlety here but it’s beautiful to watch unfold,I don’t know what Quinn was supposed to have done to have ended up in the cruel and sadistic place that she did,( honestly don’t believe she could have done anything from the character she displays here in the story) but watching her story unfold w/Orishok was a joy to behold... My only problem at times was feeling like it moved too slowly, but at the moment at least I feel certain that was more me than it was the story..... You can’t move to fast when a couple have to get to know each other and learn each other’s language and soo many other things that unless they are some how fated mates or something you can only go soo fast... I really enjoyed myself, I came in uncertain but I’m leaving feeling I’m glad I came.... read the book on KU but I bought it as I started to write this because I knew I would want to visit these two amazing characters again... Thank you, thank you soo much for bringing to us to share... Honestly the idea of being alone with just me and my love in our own little world to share ? Sounds pretty damn amazing ! I’d just like Quinn want to be able to continue my Art,painting, drawing and using photos on my iPad mini to create something special and unique, let me have that and a tropical climate and welllllll, if this my fantasy maybe at least two men whose world centers around me for all things romantic and sexual ;) Say someone like Orishok having a brother or something ;) Art,warm climate , water and least two men to love ? ( Hey, call me greedy and attention starved) ;) and I’d step into this in a heart beat.... a simple life but a beautiful and well loved one... Thank you,... By the way I did really enjoy “Treasure of the Abyss “, I’m definitely looking forward to more Kraken ;) Grins, ooooooooo tentacles ;)
I have read up to the 7th book of the VALOS of SONHADRA series, and all I see are possibilities.....
In this 7th book, Quinn has fallen out of the relative safety of the space -orbiting prison space ship the Concord. Something horrible has ripped a portion ( or portions ??) of the Ship from the main body ,and quite a few of the inmates ( women ) and guards( men) as well as a few of those sadistic Dr's have survived. While the inmates were convicted for various felonies from different parts of the world the real reason that they were there was to be experimented on !; Horrible , nasty experiments, that changed the chemistry and make-up of their bodies. Can you imagine, all the terror, all the screaming and crying and carrying on ??? Bruugghh !! Rough !! So , when she falls onto the ground, she can't truly understand how she got to wherever Here is...... So Quinn wanders around until she finds a city begins to explore it looking for shelter, and food, and she finds something different. Some one different.....And then the adventure Really begins !! I truly believe that this series is a marvel of engineering and great minds, and most of all GREAT Authors !!! I have bought all of these books , and Most are Reverse Harem stories, this one is not . Which I found a pleasant surprise ! I also see endless possibilities for expansion of these different stories of SONHADRA .....Perhaps all coming together to fight the "Creator's" , should they return . Or even the former inmates seeing each other happy , healthy and enjoying life on their new planet..........trading again, living again, loving again !!
More than anything, this was a sweet and touching read. The other books in the series talked about the loneliness of the male characters; this book actually showed it in a way that was more real and tangible.
I really liked the way the communication barrier was bridged. Beyond the typical translator, there was no real explanation on how the native learned English so quickly. However, the fact that he couldn’t explain it was good enough for me. Sometimes simply going with “I don’t know” makes a story more believable. After all, we can’t know everything, but at the same time it’s important not to brush important world building aspects under the rug. The author did a great job balancing the unknown.
I do think there was one world building good that I still can’t find a reasonable explanation for. I got the impression every live think he touched withered. There was on pivotal scene in the story where that did not happen with an animal. Maybe I missed something, but it struck me as odd.
Overall, I enjoyed the chemistry between the main characters. They simply were just so compatible. As I mentioned, the story was sweet. It had very little drama because of it.
Quinn woke up from the crash with blood on her but no injuries, she doesn't know why. She hears the screeching of animals and heads the opposite direction. She comes upon a crumbling city filled with what appears to be statues. She touches one and it too crumbles to the ground. Orishok hears the crash and comes to investigate. He was once a member of a tribe until the Creator changed them. Only around 175 survived the change out of over 700. He is the last one left. His job is to watch over his fallen tribesmen until Sonhandra takes them. He sees what appears to be a small female holding his heartstone. She places it down then backs away. He can't touch her because the creator made him death. Anything he touches dies. This is a very interesting relationship. Quinn as we know from previous books was being experimented on for healing while Orishok causes death. Can they figure out how to be together? There are a few places in this story that will get your blood pumping. This story is very entertaining and I am glad that I read it.
"All things are possible on Sonhadra, where females fall from the sky."
For some reason I stopped reading this series. I think I had several books come out all at the same time. But for whatever reason I'm happy to be reading about the Valos again. The other books in the series are reverse harem one heroine and three heros, this book is different with only two main characters. The hero and the heroine. The premise of the books is very intriguing. A prison in space where the convicts are experimented on is torn apart when a worm-hole opens up next to it. Parts of the prison are transported thro the worm-hole to another planet. The survivors now have to find their way on an alien planet full of viscous beasts, poisonous plants and Valos. I love the fact that the books are written by different authors. Everyone has their own writing style and no matter how much I love an author, if I read only them for long periods of time I get bored. With different authors it keeps the writing new and unpredictable. This story is about his life and her death. The balance of both and it's affects on them.
Quinn Dalton was sentenced to imprisonment for murder. At first she was in a prison where she was cold all the time but left alone but then she was sent too an orbiting prison where she and other prisoners were experimented upon. After one pain filled session the space station was tossed around and started to break up. Unbeknownst to Quinn it had travelled through a rift to Sonhadra. When she woke up on the ground she couldn’t believe that she was alive. Not only was she alive but she didn’t have a scratch on her! Orishok is the last surviving member of his race, the Valos and has held vigil for hundreds of years. The victims of a being who stripped the life from them and instilled it in ‘heartstones’, all but Orishok have given up and turned to stone. But Orishok is the death bringer and patrols the dead city of Bahmet with no companions and no end in sight. Then Quinn arrived and his whole reason for being changed. Quite an unusual little novella but well thought out.
MEH, TIFFANY ROBERTS HAS WRITTEN BETTER STORIES THAN THIS ONE. This would be what I like to call a FILLER BOOK into the series. I admit I never started from Book One, and I don't have any ideas to whom the characters were referring to in the story (learn from my lesson, you should prolly go read from the first book if you're contemplating on starting this series) so yeah...OBVIOUSLY I FAILED TO ENJOY it as much as fans did.
This story was more of a typical, girl meets guy and then BAM CHEMISTRY! That's boring! Guess I had a gut feeling that's why I put off this story for years.
There's no intrigue, everything's flat and by the end of the day, only the sex parts were interesting. The characters were pretty much "D'AWWWW YOU'RE SO SWEET!" or "YOU'RE THE ONE FOR ME!" The conflict was superficial, and the book was probably written for the sake of filling the series.
If you're new to Tiffany Roberts, DON'T READ THIS BOOK. The author(s) has written their own stories that isn't a collaborated collection like this that is SOOOOO much better.
She lived. She died. She lived. She died, but then realized this was a process. She really died, her alien lover cried then she lived. And the alien lover who had been dead the entire time was now alive. The end.
Confused? Yeah, welcome to the club. This wasn't some edge of the seat turning tale like the movie "The 6th Sense". This book was just random tidbits compiled together, all shoved into a box that had so many leaks, it was like the author didn't care, or truly thought it was clever; either scenario is equally disturbing.
I'm also beginning to think that all of the females in this series are the same character suffering from multiple personality disorder.
I would not recommend this book nor would I seek other titles written by this author.
Oh gosh. This is what you call a slow burn. Not a whole lot of action, but a lot of steam. I love this author duo. I did not like the first two books of this series. But having read some of the comments I skipped to the ones written by my favorites. And was not disappointed. The only one so far I’ve read that wasn’t a reverse harem, it was still excellent This book had amazing world build and fantastic chemistry between the two lovers. As I said before not much action, so if you prefer steamy love stories this ones it.
O fell in love with Quinn and Orishko. I thought they were amazing especially them being so opposite. This to me wasn't like the other books in this series and I guess that's why I loved it so. I get that these authors came together but I liked the deviation of the love they both felt. It wasn't instant let me get in your pants I'm in love scenario it was getting to know you type. They both have a lot of baggage and I guess that goes with the other heroines in previous books. This just appealed to me on another level.
This is the second book I've read by this author and I must say she's very good! Very well written the story of Quinn and her Alien man whose name I can not remember how to spell LoL he is death and some how she is life and they manage to save each other...it was a very sweet and heart breaking tale that has a very happy ending I highly recommend this book! If you haven't read the book she wrote about the abused wife hiding out in the woods that is protected by the Lord of the forest who is a shadow you should check that out too it was very good!
Fascinating premise and storyline. I believe this is the one of the series I enjoyed the most. Felt more complete and logical. If you plunge into the make believe world, story, I felt like it was most realistic. In their reactions. The parts of I don’t buy (in any storyline in series) is the food, shelters still standing after a thousand years in most of books, weapons, cloth, etc deteriorate after that many years. As well as the fact this reanimated “people” don’t eat, etc.
“And what must a king do for his queen?” he asked. “He must conquer her.”
This was short but felt like a full blown novel. There was also realistic elements in here as well that made this feel slightly like a contemporary read. I can’t even begin to express how much I loved this honestly. Quinn is precious and Orishok just wants to love and be loved🥹 I’m curious about “The Creators” though —who exactly are they? but this was too short to get as in-depth as TR usually does. The sequel is a RH so I’m intrigued lol
Oh my goodness! This book has made me feel all the feels!!!!
Quinn and Orishok are absolutely beautiful together. Each one has a backstory of tragedy (like all the Valos of Sonhadra) that compels them to be wary of anything that gives them hope. As their relationship grows, we see that spark of hope and love build and warm them. I adore Orishok and Quinn.
Oh, it was so wonderful to read this book. It will go on my read to feel good shelf.
