The second Phoebe and Her Unicorn graphic novel!

Summer is here, and Phoebe and Marigold are headed to drama camp. Phoebe’s expecting some quality time with her best friend, but in a surprise twist, Marigold has invited her sister, Florence Unfortunate Nostrils! While the unicorn sisters head to camp in a magical rainbow pod, Phoebe is stuck riding with her parents in their boring car, wondering where it all went wrong. But at Camp Thespis, there are more daunting tasks at hand: writing, producing, and acting in an entirely original play! The second Phoebe and Her Unicorn graphic novel is a sparkling tale of sisterhood and summer fun, as well as a reminder that sometimes it takes a bit of drama to recognize true friendship.

Dana Claire Simpson grew up in Gig Harbor, Washington, drawing the entire time. She eventually graduated from The Evergreen State College, despite having spent all her time drawing, and not always for credit.

Attempts at doing real work along the way are hardly worth mentioning; the relevant fact is that, from 1998 to 2008, she drew the internet comic strip Ozy and Millie. After winning the Amazon-sponsored Comic Strip Superstar Contest in 2009, Universal Uclick signed her to a development deal for Heavenly Nostrils.

She currently lives in the Seattle area with her tech genius husband and her fairly stupid cat.

If you've seen my other Phoebe reviews, you'll know that I thought the original comics were cute, but I didn't like the last "graphic novel" (as in, one consecutive plot from start to finish, instead of a bunch of one-shot comic strips) very much. I'm pleased to report that this one was much better! You can tell that Simpson has really grown more accustomed to this style with the longer-running storyline, and it was really cute. I'd definitely recommend this for any young kids.

Thank you so much to the publisher for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Voltina is back!!! I adored her when she was introduced in Phoebe and Her Unicorn in the Magic Storm because she’s a dragon and even more importantly, my favourite nerd, Max, finally had his very own friend/magical creature.

This is Phoebe and Marigold’s second graphic novel and this time they’re going to summer camp. I was glad they didn’t wind up at music camp again because that’s where they’ve always gone. This time they’re going to drama camp and Marigold’s sister, Florence Unfortunate Nostrils, is coming too. Interestingly, Florence’s nostrils aren’t as unfortunate as they have been previously.

Phoebe is initially jealous of the time the two unicorn sisters are spending together. Thankfully Sue and Max are also there, along with Ringo the lake monster and Voltina! Max is so adorably awkward and nerdy

and each time Sue says something weird I remember why I want her to star in her own graphic novel.

Unicorn transport is just as wonderful as I hoped it would be. With drama on and off the stage and some commentary about friendships and sisters, this is a lot of fun and a nice return to the graphic novel format. I’m crossing my fingers that Voltina makes her way into the collections as well as the graphic novels.

I'm going through these too fast to keep up with reviewing them. And my memory for individual details isn't holding up. So I may just copy this as the review for those I've read, at least for as long as the quality keeps up. My review of the first should hold up for the rest.

Okay, one note. Phoebe's dad is totally me. He even looks like me since I've grown my hair out. It's uncanny.

Oh, but I love this series! I've been stretching it out over the past year or so. Every time I read a new volume, it makes me happy. :) It's just so gentle and funny.

Again summer has come and vacations in the world of Phoebe and her friend Marigold the Unicorn. This is a series with a lot of fantasy and imagination, where one could say that those imaginary friends that many had as children here are diverse beings that coexist daily with parents, school tasks as well as games, internet and friendships. In this story, we return again to a single linear story, unlike the presentation form of comic strips of other deliveries.

Phoebe goes to a drama summer camp and has made plans with Sue, her friend from the musical camp by the lake, in fact, Marigold is looking forward to the occasion, but Marigold seems to be more concerned and anxious about the arrival of his sister Florence and spending time with her.

With this way of traveling, the Unicorns now made me wondering after really Otherworldly origin! heh.

Yep. Well, our litle Phoebe seems to been in the border of teens in some vignettes and the green monster is out .

Is a fluffly, and easy going tale about friendship , sisters, and maybe not be selfish?

+The Art is clean and simple.

*One thing I really miss: her love for books and reading.

*I like the final part of the book that teach how to draw the characters.

+Digital arc gently provided by Netgalley and publishers. The thoughts are all mine, bad grammar included+

I absolutely adore Phoebe and her unicorn and am thrilled there is another installment about to be published. In this addition to the series we see Phoebe heading to drama camp and her disappointment when Marigold's sister decides to join them as it takes away from the time Phoebe gets to spend with her best friend. Still, Marigold and her sister need time to reconcile a past hurt and when all is said and done the reader learns some important lessons about being a good sister and a good friend. Plus we get a front row seat to Phoebe and Sue's goofy play. Great fun!

I'm disgusted by you, Dana Simpson.

How dare you compare this worthless piece of filth to 'Calvin And Hobbes', the name that shouldn't even be used from your mouth. I would've gave you and your ridiculous book a chance, but the forward I saw in one of your books made me want to rip it into a thousand pieces and use it to wipe my dogs butt. I hate this book with a BURNING PASSION.

Bill Watterson will be better then you and your stupid, useless vector art pictures will ever be.
Calvin and Hobbes is a breathtakingly unique concept, a book that is treasured for the love, humor, worry, passion and sadness spilled into the pages. His book is genius, and if I could read one thing for the rest of my life, it would be that. Your art is messy and you REUSE THE SAME PANEL OVER AND OVER like we're all too stupid to notice.

Not only do you compare, but you say you're book is BETTER, and Calvin and Hobbes is boring.

And yet here you are, sitting and your trashy high and mighty throne, using and pushing down other authors to lift yourself up.
I wish to never set sight on another one of these books again.

Grow up, Dana Simpson.
And while you're at it, keep the name Bill Watterson out of your immature mouth.

(As for this review, you are JUST the type to be sneaking on Goodreads and acting like you aren't reading your own reviews- Yet here you are. Hopefully this well help you GET A CLUE.)

Another super-cute addiction to this series. This book is actually one long story vs just a bunch of comics together. I really liked the overall theme of friendship and jealousy and getting along.

And also Sue and Ringo. I’d totally read a whole book of their hijinks, together or separate.

I can always count on Phoebe and her Unicorn adventures to make me chuckle, but this installment had an extra side of emotional resonance.

For most of the story arcs of Phoebe and her Unicorn, it's been primarily, well, Phoebe and Marigold. While they have a colorful supporting cast of nerdy parents, friends and frenemies, and an assortment of other magical creatures, nothing has really come between or threatened to come between the two best friends. Until now. And who might come between a girl and her unicorn? A unicorn's sister. Readers will be able to identify with Phoebe's hurt that her bestie might have moved onto someone else, even knowing logically that a sister is a strong relationship too. The result of the conflict and its resolution is a strangely poignant and quirky denouement, keeping well in tone to the wit and humor of the series.

For all that the story hits some sad emotional beats, though, it also has many of the hilarious moments that fans have come to expect, like Florence Unfortunate Nostrils' delight at no longer having spiders come out of her nose when she sneezes (creating some hilarious moments when she meets new people), or the delightful social awkwardness of Phoebe's friends Sue and Max, or the play they have to produce by the end of drama camp. Some of the magical creatures of previous installments return too, resulting in some of the most entertaining dialogue-less panels.

This installment doesn't come out until October (thanks for the ARC, Andrews McMeel and Netgalley!), which means if you haven't been following the adventures of Phoebe and Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, you have time to get caught up!

Phoebe and Marigold are back and headed to drama camp!
Marigold always attends camp with Phoebe but this year she has invited her sister, Florence Unfortunate Nostrils, to go with them.

Phoebe tries to shake off feeling ignored by working with her summer camp pal Sue writing, producing, and acting in a play at Camp Thespis. Jealous that Marigold's time and attention are fixed on her sister, Phoebe and Marigold's friendship is put to the test.
Later, Phoebe realizes that Marigold is trying to fix a previous problem she had with her sister and that it's all because she has grown and matured through her friendship with Phoebe. Overall it's a wonderful tale of sisterhood/friendship!

While previous graphic novels in this series have been collections of 4-panel comics with witty one-liner wise cracks, this is a single story arc of summer camp and friendship. Most of the characters introduced previously return and they are still full of the oddball personality and whimsy longtime readers have come to know and love!

This is a wonderful series for both young and older readers (my daughter and I love to read this series together!) because it contains important lessons told with humor and Simpson often throws in a joke or reference that adults will enjoy and relate to. The illustrations are the bright, signature style that I've come to recognize and adore!

Many thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for providing an ARC for review purposes. Unicorn Theater is scheduled for release on October 23, 2018.

I'm not the biggest fan of these graphic novels. I prefer the comic collections much more. Those are more clever and funny. This story is okay, but like the other graphic novel, it's squarely aimed at kids.

In this story, Phoebe goes to drama camp. Marigold is going, too, but so is her sister, Florence Unfortunate Nostrils. As the days go on, Phoebe grows more and more jealous as Marigold seems to spend less time with her. Eventually, everything works out and the kids and magical creatures (including Ringo and Voltina) put on a play at the end of camp.

The themes of jealousy and friendship are nice, and had this been in another series, I probably would have liked this graphic novel more than I did. But... expectations. When I'm reading about Phoebe and Marigold, I expect a certain level of intelligence and maturity to come through the writing. That really isn't apparent here. And while I did enjoy this one a whole lot more than The Magic Storm, I can't wait to get back to the comic collections.

I quite like Phoebe and Her Unicorn. There is an overarching narrative in this book about Phoebe's visit to summer drama camp, and while it does contain a valuable lesson about learning to share the spotlight, I did not like it as much as the more single-panel Phoebe and Her Unicorn stories.
Still very cute, though.

Another fun book in the Phoebe and Her Unicorn series! This one is a graphic novel, that is, not one-shot kind of comics that the series is known for.
I especially loved that Marigold’s sister makes an appearance and that Phoebe meets up with her camp friend Sue.
It’s always a delight to read a Phoebe and Her Unicorn book.

A new Phoebe and Her Unicorn GN!

Although I felt this one was a little thin plot-wise compared to The Magic Storm (and no Dakota and her goblins!) this was still sweet and charming and a wonderful read.

I haven't read The Magic Storm, so some of the continuity went over my head (the regular comics stand fairly well alone, the graphic novels less so), but Phoebe and Marigold continue to be charming.

4.5 ⭐️

This was such an amazing read, and i think it’s better than the previous 2 books (which felt really repetitive).

This book series is amazing, but it is a little bit repetitive, it feels like I’m reading the same book over and over again, like it never focuses on it’s title.

but with this one, it feels like I’m reading a book with a different plot, which i really enjoyed reading, and I’m so glad that it’s focused on the title that makes it have a plot.

And the humorous aspect, THE HUMOROUS ASPECT!!
Ok, it’s not supposed to be funny, but i don’t know why I laughed at this book alot!

Oh my gosh, you wouldn’t know how much I had laughed 🤣

Overall it was really good, buuuuut i would’ve loved it if it was a little more longer, like 220 pages, which is why i give it almost a 5 stars.

And the play was 🥰, i love it, Sue is the best character, there, i said it, she’s just WAY too likable to hate.

That’s all, thank you so much for reading 😊

In this edition, it's summer vacation, and Phoebe chooses to go to drama camp (last summer she chose music camp). Phoebe comes along and brings her sister, which causes some drama. Phoebe's roommate from music camp (Sue) was there too, and they work together on their drama project.

I enjoyed this story a lot! I liked the break from the bully, the bringing back of other characters from previous stories, the relatable friendship drama that arose!

There's something that kind of bugs me about Sue, and it's subtle, so I may be overthinking it. Like when Phoebe and Sue first met in Unicorns Vs. Goblins, Sue said, "If you played the clarinet better than me, I might have had to kill you in an jealous rage." Later when they were texting about their school supplies, Sue sent pictures or an axe, bees in a jar, a blow horn, and pruning shears.

Phoebe and her unicorn are back, but this time not everything is heavenly. Marigold has a sister named Florence and her long visit makes Phoebe feel left out. Surely things will get better at camp, but this year camp will be different because camp is not for music, but for drama. And boy will there be drama. I love the story of this book. It's about friends having differences and being okay with those differences. Being okay that two friends do not have to spend every waking moment with each other and that friendship doesn’t end just because each person enjoys spending time in different ways. This was not the usual laugh riot you get with a Simpson book, but the story has heart and more then makes up for the lack of one liners and quips.
