In this fast-paced political thriller, Major Brooke Grant joins the president's top-secret CIA team and races around the globe in pursuit of a terrorist known only as the Falcon.

On the day of Major Brooke Grant's wedding, an explosive-packed rental truck detonates a deadly bomb, killing hundreds of her friends and family and endangering D.C.'s most powerful politicians.

Saved by a last-minute fluke, Brooke seeks revenge against the master terrorist responsible, an international radical Islamist who is determined to murder her, bring America to its knees, and create a modern-day caliphate.

With help from an odd duo -- a Saudi intelligence officer and an Israeli Mossad agent -- Brooke goes after her elusive zealot nemesis. But before the team can close in on their target, they discover that America's worst nightmare has come true.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Pulitzer Prize finalist Pete Earley deliver fast-paced writing and a frighteningly believable plot in this third installment of the bestselling Brooke Grant series. Set against the backdrop of Washington's political intrigue, Vengeance is a heart-pounding thriller that raises serious questions about our national security, the power of religious faith to inspire good and evil, the consequences of revenge, and the validity of our constitutional safeguards.

Newt Gingrich is well-known as the architect of the “Contract with America” that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time in forty years. After he was elected Speaker, he disrupted the status quo by moving power out of Washington and back to the American people. Under his leadership, Congress passed welfare reform, the first balanced budget in a generation, and the first tax cut in sixteen years. In addition, the Congress restored funding to strengthen defense and intelligence capabilities, an action later lauded by the bipartisan 9/11 Commission.

Today Newt Gingrich is a Fox News contributor. He is a Senior Advisor at Dentons, the world’s largest law firm with more than 6,500 lawyers in 50 countries and offices in more than 125 cities. From May 2011 to May 2012, Newt Gingrich was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States, winning the South Carolina and the Georgia primaries. He is also the author of a series of historical fiction books including, Gettysburg, Grant Comes East, Never Call Retreat: Lee and Grant the Final Victory, 1945, Pearl Harbor, Days of Infamy, To Make Men Free, To Try Men’s Souls, Valley Forge, and Victory at Yorktown. These novels are active history studies in the lessons of warfare based on fictional accounts of historical wartime battles and their aftermaths. His latest novel, Treason, is the sequel to Duplicity and is a thriller of Washington intrigue and international terrorism.

Newt and his wife, Callista, host and produce historical and public policy documentaries. Recent films include The First American, Divine Mercy: The Canonization of John Paul II, A City Upon A Hill, America at Risk, Nine Days That Changed The World, Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny, Rediscovering God in America, Rediscovering God in America II: Our Heritage, and We Have the Power.

On what should be the happiest day of her life, Major Brooke Grant's world is shattered when a terrorist sets off a car bomb just seconds before she walks down the aisle. Seems that Brooke has ticked off the terrorist leader, the Falcon, who has declared a jihad on Brooke for events in a previous installment of this series. And while a fluke saves Brooke from destruction, the Falcon's bomb is able to wipe out her friends, family and the president of the United States all in one fell swoop.

The Falcon then decides to make sure the United States knows what it's like to feel terror and uses a high-profile Arab reporter to issue a threat to wipe out three U.S. cities with nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, several U.S. citizens are seized for possible connections to the plot, putting an Islamic Congressman in a precarious position and the newly installed U.S. president wanting to make sure that the U.S. hits back and hits back hard.

Grieving and trying to piece back together not only her life, but the life of her step-daughter, Brooke is offered the chance to join the team that will hunt down and take out the Falcon. But are there forces lurking that will prevent her and the team from accomplishing that goal?

Written like an old-school Tom Clancy novel, Vengeance starts off with a bang and rarely lets up the page-turning intensity. Newt Gingrich and Pete Early juggle multiple plot threads and characters without creating confusion on which character we're following in each chapter. They also get a lot of drama and suspense in situations that require it, making the pages turn quickly.

Going into Vengeance, I was unaware that it was the third novel to focus on Brooke Grant. And while I probably missed some of the nuances, Gingrich and Early do a nice job of bringing new readers up to speed on what's unfolded until now.

The novel features some great action, some great moments of espionage and a race against time towards the end as multiple nuclear weapons could be headed to multiple United States cities. The pace rarely falters and while most of the story is wrapped up by the final page, there is still a cliffhanger to make you want to spend a couple of hundred more pages with Major Grant.

In the interest of full disclosure, I received an ARC of this book as part of the Amazon Vine program in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very well written fast paced political thriller that has turn after turn and leaves you wanting more! I loved this book and couldn't put it down. I understood after starting this book it is the third in a series but had no trouble reading it as a standalone novel.
A terrorist crashes into a D.C. wedding but the bride survives. Brooke wants nothing more than to assist in finding the terrorist and having her revenge. She joins a special CIA team to do just that but the terrorist has other plans.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book for a fair and honest review!

I've had trouble getting in to this series because the "heroine" is just not "likeable". The first 2 books were good stories and I really did like many of the other characters. Specifically her boyfriend/husband to be "Walks Many Miles". Well.....spoiler alert......all the likeable folks die in the first few pages of this third book. She went on to be just as obnoxious and unlikeable as she was in the first two books. I almost stopped reading it when "Miles" died but I hate to be a quitter. So I finished it and now I no longer care about the series so I won't be moving on with you Newt.

I am sorry to say I was very disappointed in this third book of the Brooke Grant series. I felt the first two books were pretty well balanced with the amount of action and twists, but this book just went completely overboard. My disappointment started early on and without spoiling it - the events at the church are where my interest and excitement began to turn. Unfortunately the main character was largely absent and played mostly a secondary role. Much of the action and twists were unrealistic and unbelievable. Even the ending was ... in a word - Awful. I will be tempted to read another book for the series, but urge the authors to take care in contriving a more realistic story.

Sometimes when you finish a book and lay it down, it can be hard to imagine that it is simply all a story. That it hasn't happened. But also that it could very well happen just as it is laid out in the book you just read. Vengeance by Newt Gingrich is a chilling political suspense novel that once more pits Major Brook Grant against her nemesis known only as the Falcon. He has sworn a death threat against those she loves before he targets his attacks directly on her. While an unknown terrorist breaks through barricades at her wedding, she didn't realize that the President would make a last minute appearance. Even though all attempts to stop the rental truck from drawing too near to the event, Oklahoma would be remembered after this deadly explosion that would claim the lives of more than 300 people and barely leave Brooke alive with only her daughter as the last remaining family she had left.

Now that the President has been killed, the Vice President moves into the Oval Office and he isn't going to take any chances now that a nuclear device has been bought on the black market and known terrorist groups like the Falcon are planning on making America pay for all the retribution and Muslim lives that have been lost while trying to turn America away from being the once great nation it claims to be. The Vice President is about to use some unorthodox methods of catching the Falcon and locating the nuclear device and now it is time for vengeance to rise to the top. He doesn't want them brought back alive, he wants all of them dead and the device recovered before it can be used against American's.

Brooke is just the right candidate for the team known only as KTB or Kill the Bast**d. She just isn't prepared to work with agents from other countries that have their own reasons for wanting the Falcon dead including an Israeli Mossad agent and a Saudi intelligence officer and this time all bets are off. There is nothing keeping this team from accomplishing what needs to be done and with full authorization from the White House, Brooke is about to take the game to the Falcon's playing field and this time the game is about to change.

I received Vengeance by Newt Gingrich compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups. This is a chilling look at what could quite possibly be going on in the dark shadows in our own country with countless groups looking to take down our political leaders and turn this county into one of great fear and submission. Yet like all good novels, our goodness rises to the top and for Brooke, it will be a duality of sorts, coming to terms with her own personal vengeance and saving the country she has vowed to serve so valiantly even if it costs her everything. She truly has nothing more to lose and the action never lets up until the last page. This is what draws me to novels like this, a true adrenaline rush and an unforgettable roller coaster ride of emotions. Another 5 out of 5 stars in this reader's opinion. This is the third novel in the Brooke Grant Series.

4.5 stars. This is the third in the series and while I liked it and it's a great political thriller. But to me, it lacked some of the suspense of the prior books. It was very well written and certainly very plausible, which is alarming.

I've really enjoyed reading this series from Newt Gingrich. I like that this book left open the opportunity for another sequel but didn't use the cliffhanger style to do it

I read 3, that'll be enough.

In the end "Brooke Grant" just doesn't come off as a viable character. She accomplished way too much for someone so unskilled. The major annoying aspect of this book though is the portrayal of Texans. Come visit and don't believe the stereotypes before you write about us.

-In this third book in the series revolving around Major Brooke Grant, the surprises and action continues. She is now going to be married to a soldier who worked with her on their previous mission in Africa, Walks Many Miles. The affair is filled with dignitaries and is taking place in Washington DC.
-At the same time, we follow Hakim Farouk, who is known as the Destroyer. In previous books, we watched how the Falcon, who is head of a Middle Eastern terrorist organization, was thwarted several times by Brooke, and the Falcon has arranged for Hakim to end Brooke's life. Hakim has put explosives into a van, which appeared to be that of a catering company and has arranged for an American Muslim to drive it to the wedding, where it will be exploded, killing not only the driver, but the wedding guests, including Brooke.
-The President of the United States, who is friendly with both Brooke, and Brooke's uncle, General Grant, decided at the last minute to attend. The truck gets through a perimeter and races closer to the wedding hall. Before the truck could be stopped, it's detonated, and wipes out everyone attending the wedding. But by a twist of fate, both Brooke and her foster daughter, Jennifer are in the basement, and are the only ones who are saved.
-The former Vice President is now sworn in as President, and he appears to be very presidential material. He orders a task force to go after the Falcon, under the direction of the CIA and insists that Brooke be part of the team. The Falcon, though, is not finished, and through contacts and financing in Africa, he has obtained a nuclear bomb and additional radioactive material and is now threatening the US with multiple hits, which could be devastating.
-Very interesting, especially as you see what the powers of the President actually are and how deals could be made in Congress. That's a side benefit of this series, as Mr. Gingrich writes of those actions based on what is actually possible in the political arena.
-The new characters that are introduced are very interesting, but it's sad that the original characters in the other two novels were killed off in the initial bombing, but that gives it more of a sense of reality.
-Though it seemed that this would only be a 3 part book series, the ending is such that it leaves open the possibility of further books involving Major Grant and possibly, some of the new characters that were just now introduced. Another great addition to the series, but it may have been better if certain devastation that occurred in the end of the book could have been avoided.

This is an explosive international political thriller. The story feels ripped from the headlines and very relevant to the time we are living in. Newt Gingrich and Pete Earley are back with the third installment in their Brooke Grant series. I have not read the first two books in this series, but after reading this one I will definitely put them on my list for the future. The authors provide just enough back story from previous novels so that someone who is unfamiliar with the characters can still follow along without being too confused. The entire cast of characters in this novel are complex in their own right. Each one is developed sufficiently and their stories are expertly woven into the plot.

This novel starts with a scene that casts a dark tone, a promise to eliminate Brooke on the happiest day of her life. By sheer chance, Brooke survives the attempt on her life, but her world is forever changed. Soon afterwards Brooke is assigned to a CIA task force charged with hunting down and eliminating enemy #1, The Falcon. The president has given the CIA director free reign to operate how he sees fit to accomplish this task, even going so far as to giving him a signed pardon in advance. Brooke is paired up with two people from different countries that she is not sure she can fully trust, but she is left with little choice in the matter.

This book has insightful discussions of different religions throughout it that really deepen the plot, including a healthy dose of Christianity. The reader becomes familiar with different beliefs and cultures and gains a better understanding of the religious and political climates around the world. As the action accelerates, Brooke and her team are in a race against time to stop a large scale terrorist act. The tension ratchets up with each chapter, culminating in a shocking and explosive conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next installment in this series.

I would recommend this book to fans of international and political thrillers. I received this as a free ARC from Center Street, Hachette Book Group on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is an explosive international political thriller. As a political junkie, I was hooked on this book rather quickly. The story is extremely timely and feels ripped from the headlines. Unfortunately, it seems accurately relevant to the time we are living in. It hearkens to the upcoming anniversary of September 11th combined with the news coming from North Korea.

This is the third book in a series by Newt Gingrich and Pete Earley. While I have not read the first two books they are on my “to read” list now. This story can stand independently from the other two books. Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Early craft just enough of the back story so that someone who is not familiar with the main characters can still follow along without being bewildered.

This book develops each character wonderfully. Each main character is deeply complex. One of the characters in the novel is religion. The book carefully develops different religions of the Middle East and Christianity. The authors take the reader through the idiosyncracies of these beliefs and the cultures they derive from.

Another main character is political climate. Interwoven into the story is the political climate in the United States regarding terrorism and how to keep our Country safe. The storyline is very intense and action packed. The plot gives the reader a small peak into what it takes to protect our homeland. The culmination of the story leaves you wanting more. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the first two installments, as well as, future installments. I would definitely recommend this book.

I would like to thank the authors and Hachette Book Group for the ARC on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was really intense. The beginning had me worried about how it would turn out but it was really good and I am glad I continued on. The characters were exciting and this book full of action and suspense.
The characters were hard to figure out and that made them really fascinating. They all played their cards close to their vest so you couldn’t ever see what anyone’s motives were. I was always waiting for someone to do something very unexpected.
I was hooked on this book pretty quick. Like I said earlier, the beginning had me worried, but then you had to keep reading to see how it would all play out. After that, the action got really intense. By the time I got a quarter of the way in it was so action packed that I didn’t really feel as though there was ever a good time to put it down.
This is a scary world we live in right now and this book showed exactly what could happen. With all the talk from North Korea about launching nuclear bombs at the US, this book is terrifyingly relevant to today’s world.

Wow, I loved this book. This is a very fast paced political thriller that I couldn't put down - it kept me up late into the night until I finished it. I loved the characters, especially Brooke, who is a talented woman and Major in the Marines. She took a different path from her family and made her own way, but that put her in the cross hairs of Muslim extremists and has them actively trying to kill her. Because of this, she is thrown into a variety of dangerous situations and forced to partner with people she would normally rather see criminally prosecuted for their actions. However, as the proverb states, sometimes "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." This leads to Brooke having to face difficult moral challenges and decisions on how to preserve her humanity while making those choices.

This the third book in the Brooke Grant series, but is a stand alone novel, however, the series is so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. This is a must read for fans of the genre. The authors are on my must read authors' list.

A terrorist drives an explosive packed truck into Major Brooke Grant's Washington
D.C wedding reception to detonate a deadly bomb. Brooke is saved by a last minute
fluke and she seeks revenge against a master terrorist known as the Falcon. An unor-
thodox newly sworn in President recruits Brook to join a new clandestine CIA group
to go in pursuit of the Falcon. She will have help from an odd couple. A Saudi intelligence
officer and an Israeli Mossad agent. Before the trio can close in on their target they
discover that America's worst nightmare has come true. Vengeance is interwined with
backroom Washington intrigue and it is a fast paced thriller that entertains while raising
serious questions about our national security, the power of religious faith to inspire good
and evil and to the consequences of revenge. This is book 3 in the Brooke Grant series. I've
never read any of Mr. Gingrich's novels and I really enjoyed this one all kind of action and
everyone getting killed. My kind of book so I guess I'll have to find the other 2.I gave it a 5.

Get ready for Major Brooke Grant’s next adventure, filled with action and adrenaline. When Brooke Grant’s Washington, DC wedding is attacked by a terrorist, Brooke and her daughter escape the explosion by a stroke of luck. The casualties include the president, and Brooke is soon drawn into hunting the terrorist who took her life’s love from her, along with many family and friends.

The newly-sworn-in president establishes a covert CIA task force, and Brooke teams up with a Saudi intelligence officer and an Israeli Mossad agent as they go on the hunt for the terrorist known as the Falcon, a man determined to destroy the USA and establish a caliphate.

With plenty of backroom political intrigue and undercover exploits, Vengeance speeds along on a wild thriller ride that won’t disappoint Brooke Grant fans in this third installment of the series.

It was ok. I didn't like it nearly as well as I did the first 2 books in this series. The main character was missing throughout most of the book and didn't really have much of a part in the bulk of the book. I also thought it was fairly predictable throughout, even once the twist at the end of the book was revealed. Some of it also didn't make logical sense, and that bothered me. (Minor spoiler - a military officer does not get promoted without seeing military action, and if, per chance, said officer does get promoted several times, you do not send that officer on a special ops mission with a Seal team and send that officer into action.) Overall I was disappointed that the 3rd book of this series was just ok.

In the book Vengeance, author and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich continues to follow Major Brooke Grant and the terrorist who is out to destroy her and her family – the Falcon.
After losing most of her friends, family, fiancée, and even the President to a terrorist truck bomb, Grant becomes part of a taskforce that is hunting the Falcon. But can she make the hard decisions that will bring him to justice? Or will the politics of Washington thwart it all!
I would highly recommend this book. It is a fast pace read with many twists and turns. I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

An Exciting Journey

Brooke’s family, friends and fiancée are brutally murdered when an Islamic Terrorist, seeking revenge on Brooke uses a truck bomb to destroy the church on here wedding day.

Brooke and her ward, Jessie, were spared by a fortuitous bathroom break shielding them from the explosion.

The President of the United States was in the church giving the Terrorists a reason to celebrate.

This book is as real as today’s headlines and no punches are pulled. Follow the search for “The Falcon” as he leads them around the world.

I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys action adventures.

Newt Gingrich writes great historical fiction (Gettysburg) and in the last three years he has written exciting contemporary fiction about terrorism. Vengeance is the third in a series portraying attacks on the US stemming from those countries harboring radical Islamic terrorists dealing with North Korea and funded by an African billionaire. The protagonist, a successful African American woman, deals with personal tragedy and terrorist acts in exemplary fashion. Gingrich also informs readers with current US military capabilities which makes the novel's suspense realistic.

2 stars = "It was ok" according to GR's 5 star rating system. This is a neutral rating from me.

The writing was easy to read and get into. The topic of the book is very current and will appeal to a lot of readers. It's a very standard contemporary political action thriller, that's not to say this is a bad topic, just a little cliched. The writing style reminds me of mass market thrillers, uncomplicated if a little trite. The characters are just a little too overdone as is usual in these thrillers. Overall a good read if you like that sort of thing.

I got this book as a free ARC.

The third installment in a pretty good franchise with compelling characters and plots. Mr. Gingrich starts this book off with a quick hook that grabs the reader's attention. In an interesting development, a very interesting development takes place impacting a large number of the ongoing characters in the series. This opening salvo is like the first hill of a roller coaster. There is a slight reprieve as the car climbs another hill, and then the ride really takes off and the reader is left to "keep arms and legs in the car at all times and enjoy the ride".

Really good political thriller. This is the third Major Brooke Grant novel and the ending leaves no doubt there will be more. This one explored how politics/religion forms a person. For me, the Major is getting a little tiring. How many times can she come up against terrorists hell-bent on destroying her and still come out on top? Eventually her luck has to run out. Too many of the situations were implausible -- all 300+ guests at her wedding are killed but somehow she and her ward survive and other folks survive a nuclear explosion that kills thousands of people.

series went off the rails with this one. female mc is missing from most of the book; her ward is lost (again) in her unicorn world; and the potentially most interesting character and relationship is blown up in the first chapter. what's left is a bunch of guys (including the new us president) blathering and bloviating, engaging in illicit and unconstitutional acts. sorry, get enough of that irl. and at the end, the mc, ironically (?), rationalizes her actions with religion. not for me. also, needed a darn good proofreading throughout. finished with this author.

About the fight against terrorism. Fiction, but somewhat illuminating with regard to the mind set of Muslims. Where do the great religions of the world go wrong? It would seem to be in the presumption that they speak for God No one actually knows the mind of God and therefore they cannot speak for him or mete out justice to others. Basically what all need to do - do unto others what you would have them do unto you. I guess you could say that MANKIND IS JUST TOO ARROGANT!!

It is a fictional story and not a great one in that regard but still worth the read.

I had no problem reading "Vengeance" by Newt Gingrich. As a reader, I found it to be a fast paced interesting book with a lot of suspense. My only problem was the up in the air ending. I felt that there should have been more clarification about what happened to one particular character at the end. I will not add any more details, because I don't want to spoil it for any person who reads "Vengeance".

Perhaps if I had read earlier books in this series I might have enjoyed the book a bit more. I didn’t realize until almost 3/4 of the way thru that this was part of a series. A friend lent it to me thinking I would enjoy it as a thriller. I kept feeling I was missing something. I was. The history of the characters. As it is, I just spent way too much time trying to fill in blanks and wondering why it was so tedious!

This was a good book up to a point. I swear, there are 10 too many pages to it. The ending is awful! Stupid! Insulting to our intellect. Unrealistic and unnecessary, and it really demeaned the book as a whole.

The plot was good, the action was good, although sometimes a bit rushed. But no matter how good the book was or how much I enjoyed, the ending totally ruined it for me.

Really.... Stop at page 398 (hardbound edition.)

What next?

Probably the best in the trilogy of the Brooke Grant series, but maybe the first two novels set the scene for this tome. I think the largest shortcoming of the book is; now that all of the good guys and bad guys are killed off what's next for Brooke and Jennifer? Maybe she could become a congresswoman..............

I’ve read the first 2 books in this series and really enjoyed them. This one was an OK read, but not nearly as good as the others. Am hoping that when book 4 of the series comes out that the intrigue and believability is better. Too much focus on Maj. Grant’s feelings and not enough depth in the story as I like. Can’t say much more without giving away the storyline.

Good but not worth the price

The book is a d God read but it drage in the middle. It is to long and the end is very easily figured out. I almost did not finish as it got boring. There are interesting discussion with Me Grants pastor concerning the 11th commandment. The ending left questions as to sequel.
