Possibly the silliest superhero kids' comic I've ever read. A real (and very well-coiffed) superhero gets turned into a potato by his nemesis. He still has his superpowers, but now he's a potato! I had fun reading it and I'm 44. If the kid in your life is into superheroes, and especially if the kid knows the genre and tropes well, this is a winner.

I cracked up reading this. Super Potato was a handsome superhero battling villains before he got turned into a potato by his arch-nemesis Dr. Malevolent. This was absurd and hilarious - I will definitely recommend this to young fans of Dav Pilkey at my library. It was originally a Spanish comic, now being published for English readers.

And once again I’m not in the right age audience for the book. But I guess boys in ages 6-12 will like it . It reads like DOGMAN OR CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS.

A cheeky take on the superhero genre. I'm not particularly motivated to read the rest of the series, so I don't know if it just refers to tired tropes or actually tries to overcome them.

I'm not a connoisseur of kids' comics, but the use of color was more exciting than what I'd expected. Laperla is Spanish, so that might account for it. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can comment.

Superkartoffel stiehlt allen ohnehin die Show.

Disclaimer – I didn't read this book, rather I witnessed it through the medium of read-along Youtube video, courtesy a month-long programme of such events devised by the publisher. Even though lockdowns are getting to be a thing of the past I cannot see a reason not to applaud such an initiative, aiding educators and youth literacy groups with free materials. And yes, I am still providing my opinions entirely off my own bat and with no thoughts of bias, prejudice or baksheesh.

Either way, this one proved to be quite a decent young comic, and well suited for projection and public display. Clear panels and action, with good characters and drama, all show the story of how the world's best superhero (despite issues with his hair) was turned into a potato by his archest of enemies. I guess a read-aloud would need a voice for the baddy and the goodie and the voice-over caption boxes, and then you'd find the rat's presence even more needless and annoying than it is on the page. But you'll have a breezy little bit of fun, and a series setting out in some knockabout, light-hearted fashion.

Sehr lustig

When Doctor Malevolent turns Super Max into a potato, he continues to fight crime as Super Potato. His first case becomes how to stop the evil doctor before he turns everyone in the world into potatoes. This graphic novel will appeal to younger readers eager for stories meant for them. It hits the target for high interest stories with a wacky sense of humor and plot that school age readers crave. A bright superhero primary color palate makes the illustrations an energetic partner in the storytelling. Readers will be thrilled with the ending and its promise for more spud adventures to come.

I would recommend this book for purchase by any school or public library.

Read an e-arc from NetGalley.
Super Max has another run in with Malevolent, who turns Super Max into a potato. Super potato still has powers, such as super strength and the ability to fly, but he is the size of a potato, and the shape of one, too. He is able to use the clothing from an action hero.
Cute, for young readers. There is a sequel planned.

Vain, self-indulgent and narcissistic Super Max is transformed into Super Potato by Doctor Malevolent. This is the origin story in a series. The pages are colorful and funny. Other people have been turned into potatoes, too. (Hilarious!) Considering adding this and the subsequent tales to our collection. Reading the others just to be sure!

Vain superhero, Super Max, is turned into a potato by the evil doctor Malevolent. Super Max thinks all is lost until he realizes that he still has his super powers while in potato form.

This is exactly what is sounds like--slapstick humor, standard superhero antics, flying potatoes in capes. A fun title to hand to Dog Man fans.

This was surprisingly good! Not only did my little one get to practice a mad scientist evil villain voice, there were also opportunities to practice many other cliché voices such as the snooty French maître d', the pompous hero, and even the rat henchperson. And if that wasn't enough, we got to repeatedly practice the annunciation of the word "malevolent". What more could you want?

This graphic novel is cute. There were some funny parts. It is about a super hero who gets turned into a potato by the bad guy and is not turned back. I think a lot of the words are tricky for little kids to read and understand.

Incredibly stupid middle grades graphic novel with super broad humor that will probably prove popular with students who love Captain Underpants and Dogman. So what? It is funny, and they will love it. Best for grades 3-5 and fans of silly graphic novels.

As good an origin story for a superhero as any--maybe even better than average, because it's about a superhero who is turned into another, different superhero. The best part is where Super Potato wears the hair from the Super Max action figure to great effect.

This is a super cool book about a superhero potato. He is fighting against Dr. Malevolent over and over again. The boys love the fact that he is a potato with a cool cape. A great read for elementary.

Super funny Spanish comic! I may buy more in the series for our classroom library as “gateway books” like our other graphic novels to get kids interested in reading (without feeling as overwhelmed with ALL of the words at once).
