I read this with my Lay deacon intern. Is the only pastoral theology book CPH puts out that I hadn’t read yet. It’s truly a remarkable resource. If you really wanna know how to be a good practical pastor, with hands-on how to, day and day, best practices? I can’t think of a better resource.

Truly a comprehensive and outstanding book on pastoral ministry. I took Dr Warneck's class in seminary and greatly benefited from it and now I get to save and review my notes and his book which certainly elaborates on all he shared in class. I know Dr Warneck is an outstanding teacher, I have no doubt he was/is an outstanding pastor and I greatly benefited from his class and this book.

This is a pastoral theology from a Lutheran perspective. It is complete and anyone interested in the subject will profit from reading it. There are, of course, aspects of the author's theology with which those from other doctrinal positions will differ, but that does not take away from the book's contribution. I especially appreciated the chapter on the Call to ministry.
