Kate is rescued by Jay, who turns out to be more than just a mild-mannered programmer. As she learns more about him and his power, she sees him in a whole new light.
Derek is angered by Kate's escape, and will stop at nothing to get her back. Despite his feelings for Kate, Steve has no choice but to do Derek's bidding, if he ever wants to see his daughter again.
Still recovering from the incident with Alex, Kate is afraid of intimacy. But flirtatious Vi isn't making it easy, with her sexy fantasies playing in her head.
Will Kate figure out how to stop Derek? Can she fix her past mistakes? And how long can she hold out before she gives in to Vi's advances?

Originally a Jersey girl, sunny Texas is where I now call home, in a town way up north in the panhandle called Wellington. Along with the man of my dreams, I have two children: a rambunctious little girl and a sweet but vocal little boy. Three cats, three dogs and an inordinate amount of pet hair complete my household. For fun I like to read YA, horror, and existentialist fiction, as well as watch cartoons, movies, and sometimes even cartoon movies. I try not to take anything in life too seriously and I tend to smile often.
My addiction is pacified once more because of Modified Volume four, but only for a little while, I fear. The great thing about these stories, besides that fact that they're hot as hell, is that Kat Stiles brings them out pretty quick, which means I don't have to wait for years or even months for the next one in the series to come out. In this one, the sexual tension rises big time, and we finally find out about Jay. I knew there was something going on with that dude.
Modified is the proverbial sexy, supernatural, soap opera with superpowers to boot. With Kate at the helm, the pages are on fire as usual. You get the just right amount of bang for the buck here. Stiles scored with four, but I'm looking forward to five to keep me alive because I'm hanging from a cliff here. Oh, no Vi! I need to know happens next.
Wow, never a dull moment in Kat Stiles universe! In Modified (volume 4) our hero, Kate, is in prison awaiting a grisly fate; or at least – great pain – promised by Derek, her jailer. I won’t even begin to try to summarize the plot, but I did enjoy this installment as much as the first three. Stiles is serializing her brand of horror, erotica and dark humor. I would say successfully but I will be curious to see how it all ends. In the meantime, Kate’s universe is turning out to be filled with modified confreres. Check in to see her various adventures with mayhem, teleportation and frustrated lust. Great fun for the easy going reader. Enjoy with molecular food. And a shout out to cover artist Jasper Yu who perfectly captures the tone of Stile’s vision.
I'm always going to remember this installment by it referring to a "250 proof alcohol" in the second paragraph, which kind of broke my brain trying to decide whether the author was being sloppily hyperbolic, doesn't know how alcohol proof works, or they were imagining some way in which through quantum physics there could be a drink that was 125% alcohol.
That's why it took me three days to read this. I read two paragraphs on Friday, then I needed the weekend for my brain to recover enough to read the rest this morning.
great continuation of series (received and read as part of the box set of vol 1-5) see my review of box set for a more detailed review on this series thus far.
