Marie James is a mother of two boys and wife of 17 years. She's spent most of her life lifetime living in central Texas, with only short stays in South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida. Her passions include reading everything under the sun and sewing, although she doesn't get to sew much these days!.
Writing has always been a passion and she's enjoying every step of the journey!
This book was amazing. I knew Marie James could write a great contemporary romance. And I knew she writes leading men that I swoon over. But this book gives me both of those. And I get not one but two swoon worthy men. Joey and Tony were simply amazing characters. They both had big hearts and loyalty. They had passion and this intense attraction that steams up the pages/screen.
I loved all that this book had to offer. A close knit group of friends that are impossible to do anything but love with their own unique personalities. Laughter and light moments that made me smile. And also some deep emotional moments that added a wonderful depth to the story.
Holy shit! When you read a book by Marie James you just never know what can happen. This one is no different. I don’t think I’ve snorted so many time through a book. An I’ve never wanted to throttle two people more in my life.
Let’s start with Joey and Tony.... geez these guys have so much between each other. But the RULES get in the way of everything. An most of the rules suck. HARD. The chemistry and passion just flys off the pages. I mean hot damn these two. I’m pretty sure my kindle melted a few times. But there was always a smile on my face for them.
Jon and Andi..... ugh I just wanted to slap them both. Knock some damn sense into them. But you know the RULES.
And the epilogue..... good lord Dave!! Dr. Pepper went fucking everywhere. I laughed so hard. It was so worth it. But the best part was about Joey and Tony... please please tell me there’s going to be a book about Dave?? I need to know how that happened!!
There are rules that must not be broken, rules that forbid them from a relationship, but will they pay attention to those rules?
This is a hot and steamy M/M romance, with plenty of snarky humour and a good mix of characters. I've read and enjoyed quite a few books by this author, including a previous M/M romance, so I jumped at the chance to read this. I loved the depth of emotion in her Cerberus series so was hoping for a book that had all the feels. Whilst this is a decent read, it just didn't draw me in, I couldn't connect to the characters and found my attention drifting. Normally if a book catches my attention I will read it in just one or two sittings, however I found myself putting this down and reading something else more than once.
Anthony and Joey meet when they are both called into work one evening to fix some badly messed up architectural plans. Despite the company having a no fraternising rule, they flirt outrageously with each other and share a very passionate kiss. Joey isn't sure whether Anthony is truly 'into' him, so when Anthony is introduced into Joey's small circle of friends no-one realises they have already met. Because neither fess up to already knowing each other, Anthony becomes classed as Joey's brother Jon's friend. And there are rules. The rule is that one brother can't have a relationship with the other brother's friends. And so proceeds a lot of subtle, and not so subtle, flirting and hiding of feelings.
I liked all the characters, I particularly loved the group of friends and their interactions with each other. I just didn't feel the connection between Anthony and Joey, I didn't like all the 'I really fancy you but I'm just going to pretend I don't', or 'I might kiss you but then back off', or 'I'll keep flirting but be convinced you aren't interested' stuff. I'm genuinely puzzled as to why, the writing is good and there is plenty of witty, snarky banter but I just didn't feel 'it' for this book.
I'm currently at 30% and struggling to even care about finishing it. Normally I can't get enough of Ms James' work and characters, so I'm assuming it's a case of this just not being my thing. Plenty of others have loved this book, so it's still well worth a try.
While overall I liked the story, I just didn’t really get into this book. The characters fell flat to me and all of the harping on the “rules” started to get annoying as did the hot and cold, love me, hate me throughout the book. The MM sex scenes were tastefully done and I was cheering for Joey and Tony to finally grow a pair and just be the couple they were destined to be. I wanted to smack Andi and Jon multiple times (more Jon than Andi because of his behavior). I am not really sure of Cooper’s role in the story and could not decide if Dave was a peacekeeper or stirring the drama. I did feel that the story dragged on longer than it needed but it was really well written.
Rules are set in place. They are not meant to be broken. Rules are meant to protect. But if it starts before the rules are in effect? Taunting Tony is the story you will want to read over and over. The bantering between characters will have you laughing and falling in love with the each and every character. Joey is you gay best friend who can't make heads or tails of Anthony. Anthony needed a new start and not to make the same mistakes as before. But what if those mistakes this time can turn into something more. Taunting Tony is a page turner and book at that can be read over and over. If you looking for a light-hearted romance, then Taunting Tony is one for your shelf.
This was a breath of fresh air to read...there was drama but nothing too untoward, and there was definitely humour and a general feel good factor...the group of friends, at its centre, are an entertaining lot; I loved their banter, and I found myself laughing out loud whilst reading some of their moments together....they are governed by a set of self-imposed rules that seem destined to be more of a hindrance than a help...
Tony and Joey have all the right chemistry but their relationship, which should have been relatively straightforward, has more than its fair share of obstacles...... these two guys are hot!!! And together they are incendiary..... this author always creates such interesting and authentic characters, and the cast in this book are no exception....but whether they are irritating, mean, kind or loving they are all worthy of their place in the proceedings..
This story of family, friendship and love was a thoroughly engaging and humorous read......I received an advanced copy of this book from the Author
It looks like i'm the only one here that wasn't feeling this story. I like the beginning of the story it was fun but it went downhill for me after that those damn rules #ugh I didn't like or care for Andi she came across as very desperate and in a way i felt that she was friends with Joey only to be closer to his twin brother Jon. I didn't like the hot and cold between the Mc's Also why did Jon had a sudden change of heart #ugh so this story was just not for me
This book is not only filled with tension and sexy moments, there is a great amount of humor. I have to say there was also quite a bit of frustration for me. A lot going on in addition to the two main H/H.
In a nut shell, Anthony is fairly new to town and is invited to hang out with an established group of friends who have the most dysfunctional dynamic. I wasn't a big fan of some aspects of this book. Actually it was some of the secondary characters I didn't much care for. Especially Jon.
Joey, his brother Jon, his best friend Andi (a woman), Cooper and Dave. These are the group of friends and they are almost always present on the pages. Joey is gay and proud. Anthony is bisexual and while he claims he is comfortable with his sexuality, there are moments where it was hard to believe.
The story here is Joey and Anthony had to hide their attraction from Jon. There was a rule in the group, one of many, that states no fooling around with anyone in the group. So Anthony and Joey had to hide. Andi, on the other hand is in love with Jon but because of that rule, he won't make a move. I hated his behavior. Although everyone had a happy ending, I only felt that Joey and Anthony's was believable. I could have done without the other drama, wishing all the book's focus was on the two mains.
I don't want to say too much more about the book because you should form your own opinions and I don't want to give any details away. I want to add that while there were things I didn't enjoy with this book, there were things I did enjoy. I really liked Joey and Anthony. They were a perfect couple and I couldn't help but root for their HEA.
This is my honest and unbiased opinion. Thank you for Taking the time to read it.
I received an ARC of this in exchange for a honest review.
The minute I started this, I fell in love with this book! I loved the chemistry between Anthony and Joey. Honestly I couldn’t even put this down. I barely managed to do so last night so I could actually get some sleep. I was addicted from beginning to end. I loved the interactions with the group of Jon, Cooper, and Dave. They’re hilarious! And Andi and Joey together are super funny too. I loved how it all ended and now I can’t wait to read more of Marie’s books.
One group of friends and a whole lot of rules. Can any of these characters have what they want? Can Tony open himself up and be exactly who he is? This book was delicious. Between Tony and Joey and Jon and Andi, this book will leave you breathless. Awesome writing
Holy shit, this book! I laughed. I cried. I wanted to rage. There were times I wanted to slap Jon and tell him to man up and the same with Andi. But I’m glad things turned out the way they did.Anthony and Joey were hawt! That bathroom scene *fans self*
I couldn’t put this book down, each page had me wanting to turn to the next quicker to see how it would all play out.
I have to start by saying this book was nothing like I thought it would be but I still really enjoyed it and the blurb makes complete sense now.
This book focuses on Tony and Joey who have an instant connection however they have quite a few road blocks in their way, namely a boat load of rules. Rules created to keep their crazy friendship group together but in the end started tearing them apart. I found that friendship group hilarious even if I thought they drank a bit much haha.
I loved all the supporting characters and even though I wanted to throttle Joey's brother most of the time I was actually really crushing on him a bit too.
This book certainly had layers. There was the superficial jokes and then the much deeper aspect. Both guys had issues from their past that was holding them back at times.
There are also plenty of steamy moments that will leave you fanning yourself. Anthony showed his romantic side and knew when to be a gentleman (swoon) and then pulled out this hot alpha when needed.
This book is a funny and sexy and a nice change to what I have been reading lately.
I'm kind of in love with the beautiful cover of this book - it's the pretty blue version, just for future reference - but sadly I can't say the same about the book itself.
Yeah, the writing is fine, and the story flows ok. But the characters? No. Just- Well.
We'll start with the two main characters, shall we, two selfish twenty-somethings who didn't have nearly enough redeeming characteristics to make up for being spineless, indecisive assholes with dubious and conveniently flexible morals.
BUT! Let's not stop there! Because frankly, the secondary characters make these guys look marvellous in comparison.
The best friend and the brother? Ugly. Both their behaviour is appalling throughout.
Unfortunately they are central to the story and feature prominently.
Their behavior was appalling to the point where by the end of this novel I just felt disgusted with it all - the characters; the story; life, the universe and everything, damnit.
Which is exactly the opposite to the point of this kind of read for me - I wasn't expecting miracles going into this, but I was hoping for a happily brainless read with a satisfying HEA.
Taunting Tony was the opposite of the kind of feel good read that leaves you warm and fuzzy, and without completely laying it out, I'll just say the ending just clinched it for me. No, no and nope. Seriously not OK.
The whole book felt like a passable idea for a short trying desperately to be a novel, much to the detriment of all.
Tl;dr it seems all the pretty got used up on the cover - enjoy looking at it, and spare yourself the rest.
Taunting Tony was a story so full of rules that you knew they just had to be broken. However, it was when the rule would be broken, which rule and who would do the breaking that had you allured into this story. Two men who have an instant magnetism to each other that has them running a little scared, but it will be the unexpected introduction of one of them into the other's group that just turns the notch up on the complicated even more. Twin brothers Joey and Jon have a group of friends but these friends are more than that, they are each others family and with family comes rules. These rules will have you taking the train to emotional town with frustration, hilarity, mortification and down right absurdity just being some of what you will experience as each rule is explained. Joey and Anthony's story will make you laugh, cry and swoon and not necessarily in that order. This book however should come with a big old warning, because the heat and steam along with the flirty and sexy are going to torment and taunt you from the very first page.
I loved this book sooooo much, this authors humor is my favorite, witty and a little raunchy. Why I knocked off four stars is because there is a back round relationship that is disgusting. Jon(joeys twin brother) is a man whore and joeys BFF(andi) has been in love with him for years and Jon knows this but still flaunts numerous woman in front of her and gets mad when a guy even talks to andi. He hurts andi over and over again andi cries so many times, but at thee end of course they end up together after Jon drunkenly has sex with her. It’s a sick relationship.
This book has a rather ridiculous premise. That's not necessarily a deal breaker for me if the book is otherwise well done. However, this book is not well done. The majority of the characters are insufferable, and it is rife with stereotypes and subtle, and not so subtle, chauvinism and homophobia. Definitely do not recommend.
I tried... I really did, but everything about this book irritated me - from the characters to the present tense narration to the endless meant-to-be-funny-but-really-not-all-that-funny dialogue. Not to mention the kind of rambling free indirect style of narrative. Nothing about these characters was convincing, and certainly not as gay or bisexual men.
I enjoyed it for a while, but eventually I got sick and tired of all the rules. The brother was a complete and utter a-hole pig, the best friend was a damn doormat, these mid twenty year olds constantly behaved like young teens, and their was to much sex with hardly any relationship building. I mean I’m all for sexy time in my books, but I need to see the MCs build on more than that.
The whole plot was nice, but the way it’s written into a story was boring. I almost dnf. But since I’m curious about the ending, i stuck reading (with mostly skipping pages). And even the ending didn’t raise to expectation.. i was hoping HUGE climax after all the waiting (because seriously, i fells like survival test) But noooooo, it’s just solved like that.
I believe i've mentioned this quite a few times already, but M/M genre novels never have been my go to genre. While i'll read them from time to time since i love a great storyline and sometimes some of my favorite authors will write in that genre, i can't say i'm a diehard fan like so many i know are. That being said: is this Marie James' first time writing M/M?? if so, holy crap, it does NOT show. If not, then damn, i really have some catching up to do.
Taunting Tony was hot. Like, i had butterflies in my stomach and squirmed in my chair hot. It was incredible as a storyline and i may have laughed more than once when it came to Joey and Abby (his best gal friend) and the way that Anthony and Joey would taunt one another. The sexual chemistry and angst that exist between these two is absolutely undeniable.
And those rules!!! How many can one group have? I laughed each time Anthony had that puzzled look on his face when a new rule was explained, and i absolutely sighed when it came to this couple trying to deny their attraction for one another. This is the kind of book that i will absolutely read again in the future because it was that good. I can't wait to find out where this author is going to go with her next book because so far i've never been disappointed with any of the books i've picked up from her!
Title: Taunting Tony Author: Marie James Genre: M/M Romance Rating: 5/5
This was a refreshing, hilarious fun read that had me all out belly laughing with tears streaming down my face if I’d been wearing mascara I’d have given Alice Cooper a run for his money.
Taunting Tony’s a story about fun, friendship, love and family with a whole load of rules that are just meant to be broken thrown in for good measure. Tony and Joey are two incredibly hot sexy men within this group of brilliant characters who share amazing chemistry and what should be a relatively straight forward relationship is hindered with obstacles as well as plenty of laughs along the way. If you enjoy your reads with plenty of heat,?humour and a touch of drama then this one’s for you.
Marie has done it again with this enjoyable and highly entertaining read, five smoking hot stars out of five. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
I actually laughed out loud this book was hilarious. It was a really fun read with great MC’s and their friends. It almost felt like you get two stories in one. Joey and Tony and joeys twin brother and andi joeys best friend. But there are rules 100s of rules so many rules they can’t even remember the rules half the time. The most important rule is don’t sleep with anyone in the group. When David introduces Anthony to the group that’s where things become interesting as Joey and Tony have already shared a cheeky kiss. The instant attraction and their ability to not keep their hands off each other makes this a hot and steamy fun novel to read. With so much interaction with the other characters it’s fun to get all points especially Andi who wants no one but Jon but Jon won’t break the rules. Sometimes rules are more fun when they are broken.
I received an arc copy in exchange for an honest review.
Um, yeah... F%*KING AWSOME! This story was everything I didn't know I wanted. I loved it. I laughed, I swooned, I fell hard!
This is the fantastic story of a group of friends, rules, humor, and drama, oh the drama! I loved this book so hard! Everything about it: the relationship between Tony and Joey, the one liners, the trouble makers, the friends, the drama, the hot, Hot scenes; EVERYTHING!
There were a few times that I was just sitting back in awe of this story. I wanted to be part of this group of friends. I wanted to be in on the action and become family. Reading this book was like a mini trip into a wonderful, caring and loving family. I did gave a few qualms with a couple of characters, but I just felt the needed to grow up and find themselves before commenting on others lives.
I cannot adequately describe this story so I will say this: if you enjoy MM, HEAT, humor, and drama then read thus story. It is amazing and such a great time! I had the immense pleasure of receiving an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.
Joey gets called in to work late one night to fix a co workers mistake. What he finds when he gets there almost knocks him on his butt. The chemistry is off the charts and the pull to Anthony is indescribable.
Anthony is new to the job and low man on the totem pole so he gets called to help fix a problem at work. When his eyes land on Joey work is the last thing on his mind.
But there are rules.... too many damn rules
This was a really cute story with a group of friends I'd love to hang out with. These friends will go through everything together and come out better for having each other. With that said this book has all the sexy hotness you could handle and is worth the read.
My Review of Taunting Tony By Marie James My Rating 4.5 stars Fantastic story! This one has everything you could possibly want in a book, Lots of laughs and smarta$$ humor, drama in epic proportions, and rules so many damn rules! Anthony and Joey have rules that have been put in place from their friends and family. Let the Fun begin, because as we all know rules are meant to be broken, and hmmm broken they are. This story taunts enough that I wanted to be a part of the group…. Like be their friends too!! Ms. James writes in a way that captivates and gets you addicted quickly. This is one more of her quirky stories that I wasn’t able to put down until the very last page and in my humble opinion I didn’t want the story to be over. Review provided by Tamra @ Hellmouth’s Bookblog
Anthony is new in town and invited to hang with a close nit group of friends. Only problem is that they they have rules for everything! One rule that he has a problem with is “Don’t date anyone in the group”. Only problem is, before he met the group he had already met and kissed Joey.
I loved this story. It had a “friends” type feel and was very entertaining. The different situations that occurred made me laugh and sympathize with the struggles the friends faced. This was a very lighthearted read that I recommend completely.
If I had to say anything negative it would be that it was a little long. For people that have a problem with it, there is M/M sex. And it shows men who are womanizers. But if that doesn’t bother you, I think you will enjoy it as much as I did!
This is another great book by Marie James. It is a M/M contemporary Romance. It is about twin brothers who have been hurt by the other by sleeping with their friends and the other one finds out that the person is only friends with them because the other. So they made rules that cannot be broken. You are not allowed to sleep with the other ones friends. This cause a problem because Joey's friend Andi is in love with Jon. Tony is Jon's friend want really wants Joey. But in order to follow the rules and stay in the circle of friends they must all obey the rules. Will they obey the rules or were rules really meant to be broken. Read the book to find out. You will laugh and cry all in the same book.
