The media spread my face nationwide on every newspaper known to man when the story first broke. It read- James King. Son of wealthy, ambitious hotel owner, Victoria King, busted for cocaine possession. Let’s be honest. I’ve always been a rebel, a little rough around the edges. The black sheep of the family. The outcast. No one ever thought twice about me, not even when I was arrested. The only thing is I didn’t really do it, but I served time for the crime. Today my freedom was granted to me. I was permitted to leave this prison that I had lived in for the last sixteen months. The guards opened my cell, grinned and told me I could finally go back home. Home? See, it wouldn’t be my home. It would be her home. I have no home of my own anymore. Funny thing about being locked up, is that you lose everything, including yourself. You no longer exist to the outside world. You’re transparent, at least that’s how I felt until I met Emily. She was kind and in my world people like her were far and few between. I was drawn to her like a magnet. I wanted her, but I’d kill myself trying to get her because she’s damaged. I just didn’t know it yet.
Jennifer Raygoza delivers books that will keep you turning pages. She has a knack for writing chaotic characters with complicated pasts, wrapped in pure seduction and sprinkled in darkness. If you love a little of everything in your book then dive into her world.
This book is bad. The idea of the story is good. I was looking forward to listen to the audio book, looking forward for some angst romance story. What I found is good story, but the characters are so immature. Their push and pull is ridiculous. Embarrassing even. Both the hero and the heroine, have insta lust and acting on it with childish maturity.
James's family is stupid. And that makes James like a very needy hero. Feeling sorry for himself. Emily is no better. She can not make up her mind and keep back and forth with her feeling. I do not like doormat heroine, and Emily is the fine example of doormat. At one point, I want her dead.
This is my second book by Miss Raygoza. And I do not develop any positive liking to her book. Especially The Silver Lining.
James King has a bad boy image, jail time for drug possession, gets out and goes to the place he should call home, but doesn't, it's all for show. He trades one hell (jail) for another (home) with his ambitious and status climbing mother Victoria. Everything is about what is reported and how 'others' view their family...no matter what the cost, or you will face her fury. Image, Status, Vanity and Fame are not what James wants, ultimately he wants things that hold value that can't be bought. Even his brother, the favored child, will be brought into Victorias wrath for being himself.
The game changer...Emily, adorable and fierce...I mean, what woman wouldn't freak out seeing a tattoo'd bad boy show up unannounced and scare the shit outta them...LMAO..but trying to stab him, may have just been the way to his heart. James is in pursuit of this subtle vixen, who is trying to keep her guard up dealing with her own personal and family issues that will cause more drama for both her and James...no matter what the fates have planned, together they will forced to deal the regin of Victoria.
This story is engaging and fast paced...I really loved the dynamics of the characters and the way they evolved into something more complex and entrancing to read. The twists and turns are subtle but profound, changing the course of their lives one chapter at a time. There are moments that the emotional attachement to the characters pull you in and your left gasping in fright, cursing at stupidity, yelling at ignorance, screaming in passion, shivering from lust and crying from cruelty....only to be brought back to jumping for joy and laughing your ass off at the irony!! (sorry if that was a mini spoiler...but you still need to read it to get it!) A #mustread #oneclick from Jennifer Raygoza!! Above all...#TeamJames #tattoobadboy #heartofalion
Wow what a fabulous read from this new to me author.. I received a copy of this book from jennifer to read and review.
This is a fabulous tale of one lads journey from riches to rags to king of his empire.
James King. Son of wealthy, ambitious hotel owner, Victoria King, gets busted for cocaine possession. But is everything as plain cut as it once may have seemed? Did James commit the crime for witch he did the time? Just how much of a life can you rebuild when thoes meant to support you viciously turn against you?
It's surprising how much such a short amount of time with one person can change your whole outlook. Is there really such a thing as love at first sight?
Emily is doing her up most to provide for her family, she busts her arse working for people whom believe they are above her, thoes people around her coupled with a horrendous past leave Emily with serious doubts. Can Emily bring herself to trust another person, to ever let someone else in??
Let's join this unusual pairing along there touching journey, will there be a happy ending for this pair or will the tragedy they come up against tear apart there hopes and dreams??
A fabulously composed read, that had me griped from beginning to end. I was routing for the underdog. I feel in love with the characters, I so desperately wanted this story to continue.
Quotes;
#No Fear
“Emily,” I finally shouted. “What?” She stopped talking and took a breath. I grabbed her hand. “Shut up and let me love you.”
*sigh* This is a case of a fantastic premise being bogged down with choppy writing and a story that seemed to be all over the place. :( I really wanted to like this more than I did.
This is told in first person from James's POV, with one chapter from Emily's POV. James just got out of prison for a crime he didn't commit. Emily works for his mom. His mom is evil. EEEEVIIIIL. There is this whole back & forth thing w/ James & Emily, and they're not really together through most of the story. And when they are together, it's a lot of back & forth of them being happy (10%) and unhappy (90%). It tainted my enjoyment of what was a really fabulous storyline, unfortunately. When things are finally beginning to get resolved, BAM!, we're hit w/ what - to me - was an unnecessary return to that back & forth stuff. And then, BAM!, they're back together & everything is resolved & then it's the end.
*sigh* So, all in all, not one I would recommend, but I'm glad I read it. And that cover - the cover should win an award of some sort! : )
The storyline was excellent, the author was truly amazing in her writings. The characters in here James & Emily without giving spoilers I can say love truly did overcome all! I'm looking forward to all of the future books this author writes, her ability to show her readers what real love, respect and hope is! Very well written!
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I loved it. It is a quick read that is packed with plenty of drama. It was one of those books that I read in one sitting because I just did not want to put it down. Reading as fast as I could and at times unsure of what would happen next or how it would even end.
James King is the son of Victoria King, a very wealthy hotel owner. When we first meet James he is being released from prison for a crime that he did not commit. For most people being released from prison means you are now free. But for James King it just means that he is going back to his own hell, living with his bitch of a mother. And honestly bitch is probably too nice of a word to describe her. James is one of two sons in the King family. But he is the one that has always been looked down up on by his mother, he was never good enough for her and she has never had an issue with letting him know just how much of a disappointment he really is. He wants nothing to do with his mother or her money. And then he meets Emily who is everything that his family is not and exactly what he needs and wants.
Emily is kind and sweet and struggling to make ends meet. She has her own family issues that she is dealing with and trying to work her ass off to help them. Emily and James may come from completely different worlds but they have this odd connection. Emily does things to James and makes him feel things that he cannot explain or even understand. He just knows that he wants her in his life. But he also knows that there’s something holding her back. Emily is attracted to James but in her mind she knows his type and she is so afraid of giving her heart to someone only to get it broken. And she is sure that James King will hurt her. James may be rich but he is also so far from the man that you may think he is. He wants nothing to do with his family’s money and wants to be as far away from his mother as possible. And he also wants Emily. He will do anything to protect her and make her happy, but is that enough? Can Emily and James overcome all of the obstacles that they are faced with and find a happily ever after? Or will Emily’s past and James evil bitch of a mother get in the way?
I really loved this book. It was a short read but yet gave me everything I love in a book. A great love story filled with drama and angst and one swoon worthy hero that I fell for. This story is told from James’ point of view and I have to tell you Ms. Raygoza knows how to write in a male’s point of view. It just flowed perfectly and I loved being inside his head. James was one of those heroes that you will just fall for. He may have been the black sheep of the family or considered a bad boy but to me he was perfection. He knew from the moment he met Emily that she was special. He couldn’t understand why he felt the way he did after only knowing her for a short period of time but he couldn’t control his feelings regardless of the time. You felt the connection that these two had. I wanted nothing more than for the two of them to get together. And there were times where I honestly wasn’t sure how this story was going to go. How it was going to work out. Because no matter what was going on between them or how they felt there was something that would get in between them.
I loved Emily and honestly felt bad for her at times. she was struggling so much with trying to help her family plus the fact that she had her own demons from her past that she was still fighting. And those demons held her back from finding love. she liked James and you could feel it but her fear and insecurities held her back.
This book may be a short red but here was a lot of drama that unfolded in the form of one mother who is as selfish as they come. She really was just pure evil in the way she treated her son. Money and her image was all that mattered to her. His mother's selfish ways made for great drama and angst between Emily and James. Throw in an ex girlfriend and a haunted past and you have a roller coaster ride of emotions that is so worth taking in the end. I loved this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
I was pretty excited when I was giving the opportunity to meet him. He has become someone special to me in my book world. He was an odd character to meet after my past experiences with jack ass billionaires and full of themselves biker kings. Not saying I hate those men, because I don't. But James King was a breath of fresh air. He's a little rough around the edges, but who isn't? This story is in James' POV. Which I loved! It was very different since most books were the opposite. It starts with his leaving jail. Heading back to another hell, he calls home. To an evil dictator called mom. He's one of two sons by Victoria King, and he's her least favorite. Like she hates him. She fakes a smile for the media but that's it. He hates his life with her, and soon in meets a woman who may change his life for the better or worse. Emily is his ending, his beginning, his thing to make him question his sanity. After all he's been through, jail for a buddy, horrible rich life, pathetic excuse of an ex and best mate, the hope comes soon that he'll get his happy ending. This entire story is pretty much out in the open. Nothing is behind closed doors, except a few things. Which makes this story pretty easy to read. To some this could be a good or bad thing. I enjoyed it personally. It's very to the point, no bullshit. Literally, what they said was usually meant. The other characters were just as amazing. The heroin Emily is a sight. I can see her in my head as being such a beautiful person inside and out. Then there's James' evil bitch of a mother. Now I'd love to go a few rounds with her in the ring. She is vicious, malicious, ugh I just hate her. But I love her. Her character is amazing to me. The author really brought out her horrid personality well. Another character Nikki, who in my opinion, is probably a good person in a fucked up situation... I believe she was just an easy target for evil to intercept her personality. Shame. Then the best friend...fuck his name! I hate him. Hateeeeeeeeee him! Bless me. He's just as awful as the mother. Mike is awesome! Love him. Would love to see a book on him. He reminds me of all the characters I've read about who are usually the heroes body guard or personal bestie. But he was James' boss. Which was a great change. This book seriously has potential to be a five star read. And if not for a few things, I'd definitely give it 5 out of 5 stars. But, for this reason, and that being the story wasn't that captivating I must give it 4 out of 5 stars. When I say it wasn't captivating, I mean it didnt either have the list of things I need to have me on my toes, crying, laughing, pissed, sad, you know the list where I'm like, What. The. Hell. Just. Happened. This book was lacking that. Like I said earlier. This book is an easy read. Which was nice. It wasn't a mind fuck. But me being me I LOVE that in a story. So 4 stars to The Silver Lining. I definitely recommend this read! And I seriously hope she continues this story, even if it's a spin off. I would buy it in a heart beat!
That's Everything on The Silver Lining By Jennifer Raygoza XoXo♡♡ Erica
I was privileged enough as one of Jen's beta readers to be gifted a copy of "The Silver Lining"
Being familiar with Jen's work and having enjoyed every read what I'm about to say is not to be taken lightly. ....This is her BEST work yet ! Yes it's different to her other work but this is more than just genre change....The style of writing has evolved and the characters suck you in and the storyline is brilliant!
Right from the dedication you feel like you're about to embark on an epic journey, one that is rather private , we are dealing with people and their emotions after all. Jen , your dedication is heartfelt and filled with emotion. Thank you for taking me on James's journey.
So James does time for a crime he didn't commit and as clichéd as that sounds he really was innocent. His "loved ones" are a pathetic sorry bunch. His mother however is the queen bitch and I'd like to knock her deceitful , caniving ass off her throne! She's the devils spawn ! She's self centred ,conceited and uber selfish . Let's quote Mike as he sums her up "Meaner. I think the woman eats battery acid for breakfast." I must be honest not everyone in James's life suck the life out of me ....There is Mike , the bar owner and friend , Chad his brother and then the lovely Emily, who starts off as a lady in his mother's employ but who becomes so much more ♥
I fell for James and for so many different reasons. James has heart and character and it comes through very strong when James stands up for Emily and defends her♥ again we're exposed to what a cold and heartless bitch mother Victoria is !
Just as I think Victoria can't stoop any lower she comes with her request to James ....WTF ?!?!.. Really does she smoke her socks? This woman is all shades of fucked up!
On a lighter note ...Chad , the brother ...what a sweetheart and I can't help but wonder how such a skank ass wench ended up with 2 such wonderful boys. ...
James and Emily have plenty of obstacles to work through and Emily is a bit of a runner which I understand but it still frustrates me at times. James fights for her ,for them which just adds to his persona .
At a stage their paths sadly part and when he BUMPS into her, figuratively and literally, I'm done for...I'm a total blubbering mess !
Mona rocks my socks and is an absolute card ! She doesn't beat around the bush and she had me in stitches !!
James grants "L.A. Dish It Up" an interview and what I appreciate is that James stays true to himself , he's honest and candid about his time in prison, his childhood and his relationship with his mother. He doesn't pretend to be something he's not and he says a thing as he feels it.
I LOVED the ending of The Silver Lining. It does leave oppertunity for a follow up but by no means does it leave you hanging !
Congratulations Jen on a well written and beautiful ★★★★★ read
I received a free copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
The Silver Lining is a New Adult romance about a Hotel mogul's son who just got back from prison. He was stuck there for a crime he didn't commit, but didn't snitch on the person either. The book centers on his romance with a housekeeper and the struggle the two go through to find peace.
The book is written in first person with almost all of the chapters being in James King's point of view. There is one chapter that is Emily's. Though this could confuse a reader, I found the chapter to be important. It helps you understand Emily and what her reasons are. Granted, they weren't great reasons, but I can understand why she did what she did (no spoilers here).
James King is from a rich family, but he acts like a decent man. He isn't all about money and thinks family is first. His close friends are family to him because of his lack of relationship with his mother. I love a family guy and James has that quality. He would give the shirt off his back for someone because it is right, not because he expects something in return.
Emily is from a poor family and has worked hard to get what she wants in life. She seemed anxious to me and afraid of the future. She didn't seem to live in the moment, but more day to day. She was a character who seemed to focus on survival, not necessarily happiness.
Together, they may a good team. James seemed to be less angry and less of an ass (he was an ass for reasons I could understand) when he was with Emily. Emily was less anxious. They work well together and I liked that Raygoza made them feed off each other well. Even when they fought, they were meant to be. It didn't feel like a dangerous relationship, but one that could thrive in real life.
The story was easy to get into and fun to read. I was able to figure things out, but there is one question left in the wind. However, the question is more like a "I wonder" and it's not focal to the main characters. It's about the main antagonist, James King's mother. Who seemed more like an evil stepmother from a Disney movie. Seriously, she's a witch. All in all, I really liked the book. It was quick, had me rooting for the main guy (there were moments I did swoon over him), and I couldn't put it down until I was done.
*I received this book for review from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not told what to say, I was not paid to write this review and all the opinions expressed are my own
I really enjoyed this book, it was a quick read. And a lot of drama.
James is locked up for something that he didn't do. Gets out of prison and has to start all over. His mother is a horrible monster. Literally. I dont think I have ever dispised someone has much in a book. James is treated like garbage. He overcomes it and falls in love with Emily. Emily happens to work for his mother, go figure...
You can only guess the drama and fights that happen from just that little romance beginning. Through it all, secrets are revealed. Life happens and they have to learn to overcome them. Just as any other couple does. It's a good read. And not very long, so if your looking for a quick, dramatic, romance...then definitely pick this book up.
My only aggravation this book is the overuse of ? marks. The author has been very thorough with all of the beta readers suggestions and even asking in depth questions on how to make the book better. I can guarantee you, that the author has put a lot of hard work into this book, and the finished copy that will soon hit your EReader will be awesome. This is the first book I have read by Jennifer, and I will definitely be looking at her others for my next read!
This story had a great premise and I really liked James, the main character in the story. He was dealt a rough hand and is doing the best he can with it while not taking crap from anyone. I liked that he could go the wrong path or even the easy path but he choses his own path even though it is a difficult one.
His mother is an evil woman that I thought might be the impression that we were getting because we were seeing her from James point of view. It turns out that she really was that bad. I really liked this because there were times in the book that I didn’t think the mother could get any worse and the author kept surprising me.
The story premise is unique however for me it seemed to move a little too fast. James sees his mother’s housekeeper and likes what he sees. She ends up finding him on the street, drunk, and brings her to he house to stay with her. She is going through a tough time as well and all of a sudden James feels the need to protect her. There is a lot of them wanting each other, then denying their feelings, and back again.
The ending seemed to hit all at once and everything fell into place a little too quickly and perfectly for my taste. I don’t want to give anything away in regards to the ending but I would have liked to see a little more struggle or slower paced resolution.
I'm not entirely sure how to rate this book. I liked it but I didn't. I wanted to like it more. It was certainly action packed but it felt a little 'too packed' which made it a bit unbelievable. I know in a romance book you're supposed to be able to right about what you want when you want and it's about imagination but.....released from jail, loses girlfriend to his best friend (said best friend is the reason he went to jail), ex-girlfriend also has an abortion, meets new girl, falls in love (in two days it felt like), gets in a horrible car crash with said girl friend and finds out she's pregnant, she says she's aborting it, two months suddenly pass and she's randomly in the grocery store sporting a baby belly (um...she's maybe 3 months pregnant at this time, first child), she insists they can't be together, he fights for her, the entire time his evil mother is doing everything she possibly can to sabbotage his life....it just seemed fakey to me.
I finished it.
That being said, not one character in this book had a mature bone in their body and I couldn't stand it. I mean, it seemed like he was trying to be mature sometimes but really....no. His mother....least mature person in the history of books. Pregnant girlfriend....it was like watching a 16 year old girl try to make a decision....
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

4 stars for Silver Lining by Jennifer Raygoza.
James King was in the wrong place at the wrong time. His friend gave him a back pack to hold and then ran off. The police were there and when they opened the back pack, it contained quiet a bit of cocaine. Because of this, James spends 16 months in jail. When he is released, he goes to his mother's house, and it is there he meets Emily. He has never had a good relationship with his mother and when he discovers all of her dirty secrets, he cuts her out of his life. While driving, Emily spots James walking down the road and notices that he is drunk. She takes him home with her to take care of him. They are each sexually attracted to one another, and it doesn't take them long to become intimate. Events transpire that cause Emily to doubt her relationship with James. Will they realize that the love they share is pure and unique, or will they just give up?
I enjoyed Jennifer Raygoza's writing style. The story line was enjoyable and progressed nicely. Overall, this is a good book that I would have no problem recommending,
James King. Spoiled rich kid or loyal friend? After taking the fall for his friend Zach, James is released from prison to find his girlfriend has moved on, his best friend feels no remorse whatsoever for allowing James to do time for Zach's crime. His mother is a psychotic bitch, that's the only way I can explain the crazy, social climbing, money grubbing witch. James didn't have the picture perfect childhood, regardless of what the media sees, behind closed doors the picture is completely different. Upon coming home James meets Emily, his mothers housekeeper and quite possibly his savior. The developing relationship between James and Emily has it's ups and downs but they both end up being each others shoulder to cry on when they need it most and soon they find themselves connected on a deeper level. Can the rich boy and the maid have a real, meaningful relationship or will family pressures ruin any chance they have to be happy?
Loved Emily from from the beginning!! While she was struggling with her own demons she still took the time to try to help a man she barely knew. And James, the first encounter with neighborhood watch hooked me, I was in love with him from then on. Great read!!
I loved this book. When the book starts James King is getting out of jail. On the surface James may look like a bad boy but he really is super sweet. James is a great friend and is definitely the guy you want to have your back. He loyalty to friendship and trusting soul in what landed him in prison. James is very straight forward and I was laughing at some of the things that came out of his mouth.
James is from money but he is not snobby and all about status. His mother, Victoria, on the other hand is all about money and status. When he gets out of prison, he has no choice but to return home to his mother's house. There is really nothing likable about his mother but she does hire good house staff. Emily is Victoria's housekeeper. Emily is a sweet, good hearted person. She is very loyal to her family. James and Emily's paths cross. They are both attracted to each other. James get kicked out of his mother's house and Emily steps in to help him. From there a friendship forms and grows into much more.
I loved reading Emily and James's story. They have a lot of bumps in their relationship road to overcome but those bumps makes for a great story.
This book was a great read. Both the main characters, James and Emily overcome a lot in this story. James by all appearances lives a charmed life. His father started a chain of hotels and upon his death his mother turned them into cash machines. They are wealthy. Emily works as his mother's house keeper in the beginning of the book. Emily has been through a lot and is scared to let James in. James keeps fighting and trying to prove to her that he won't hurt her like she has been hurt in the past. James' mother Victoria takes the crazy cake she was mean and manipulating. She only cared about herself and her reputation. Some of the things she did in the book were just horrible. James and Emily road to happiness is not an easy one but they have a great love. The ending is a complete surprise but fantastic. Once Emily realizes that she can't fight her feeling for James and doesn't want to she realizes how much she has been missing. This book was funny at times and sad at others. I would love to read more about these characters. James' brother is a great funny character. I can't say enough about this book but I don't want to give any spoilers away. I love Jennifer Raygoza, she is a great author. I was given this book in return for an honest review.
This author is new to me, but I came across this book in my travels across social media and the blurb sold me. To be honest, the cover helped too, but there was something about the idea presented in the blurb that made me want to jump right in. So jump I did. While I enjoyed the story overall, especially with the end that both James and Emily were given, I had issues with the flow of the story. The execution, if you will, which didn't quite make it a 5 star read for me. I will say that I enjoyed James immensely. I connected with his character quite early on. There was something about where he found himself in his life, a crossroads so to speak and the choices and decisions that he makes as he realizes it all that made me like him. Want to root for him. Unfortunately the same could not be said for Emily. She seemed a lot more scattered and all over the place than I was expecting her to be. Gun shy, worried about the pace at which they moved, I understood. That aspect made sense to me. It was a lot of the push away and make him chase her, along with her decisions later in the book that rubbed me the wrong way. Overall, this was a good read, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me. But that being said, I'm interested in checking out more from this author.
The book Silver Lining is wonderfully written by Jennifer Raygoza. Her story draws into the life of James King a son of Victoria King. In the beginning he is getting out jail thinking that his mom is going to pick him only to find she has disappointed him again. His journey starts when He gets home and his mom starts treating him as before. He leaves all the wealth behind to live on his own. Emily finds him roaming the streets with no shirt and drunk. As you are pulled into his story fighting his way through life and breaking down the walls that Emily has put up. Mommie, ex girl and boyfriends try to destroy Emily and him again. He has too much fight to give up on Emily. He finds her in a store and offers to take her to her job where she takes care of a elderly lady. This elderly lady listens to James talk about his life and how he loves Emily. The elderly lady begins a tale about a lovesick couple who has many bumps in the road. In the ends of James's journey He gets the girl and the Hotel chain because His father knew what was good for his family. Wonderful story with its ups and down with a wonderful conclusion.

Silver Linings is a fast read about love; love that isn't based on fairy tales but on real life love, painful with growing pains and questions...James and Emily are the young couple, each has their own story of why they run from love, James, born with a silver spoon who basically got everything he wanted except love from his mother, and Emily who had the love of family but dealt with an abusive relationship that almost killed her....The couple get together for the wrong reasons, but as they get to know each other, scars and all, fall in love, and each character becomes stronger and faces the fears that stopped them from falling in love....love hurts, but when it is right it is good...and with Emily and James it is right and good. The first chapter just pulls you into the story, the characters are well define and the story includes a mean spirited mother, an abuser and some unfortunate incidents, well worth the read to find out....
This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading books by her in the future. This book was well written and flowed with ease. It was sexy, sweet, angsty, full of drama, and had quite a suspenseful storyline.
This is James and Emily's story. James and Emily are two seriously damaged people in their own way. James is fresh out of prison and his world is flipped upside down. Emily is grieving and healing from her past. When their worlds cross path, they feel a connection like they've never felt. They will ace obstacles at every turn. Their story is not easy but beautiful in its own way.
I liked James. He was funny, direct, in your face, and totally sweet. I liked how he went after Emily and kept pursuing her even when she ran. These two hit tons of bumps along the way. I also liked Emily though I wanted to smack her at times for the reckless decisions she made along the why. I was rooting for these two along the way.
The Silver Lining starts out a bit unlikely for a romance novel, in prison. And it also is from the male lead's POV. Usually, as we know, it is the female's POV. I have always been skeptical about a woman writing from a man's (especially one that was in jail for drug possession) perspective. In the usual sense, women's and men's brains work so differently that it seemed a difficult task (one even I haven't attempted yet) to be so accurate. And it would also be hard to make female readers identify with the man in question. But Ms. Raygoza did just that. You immediately like James, despite his wrongdoings and shortcomings. And that's because James is an honest character; you meet him as he exits jail, for crying out loud! But he's a likable bad boy who falls in love easily. As he cares for Emily, you feel that. As she hurts him, you also feel that. You're right there with him as he experiences love and freedom, as he gains back every single thing he lost during his time in jail. It's honest, heartfelt and very, very real. A great book, all around!
The Silver Lining was intense, and a really good story. It started off with James King, the hot bad boy, and I loved every second of it. We got to learn about him in first person right off the bat, which was good because it helped with following the story.
The characters were very interesting, and I loved seeing how they mingled with each other. It was interesting to see how they interacted with each other, and how the actions of one character would affect the others.
The story was really interesting. There was a lot of conflict and drama, which is what I wanted out of this novel. There was a ton of twists and turns, and things I was definitely was not expecting out of this book. Jennifer Raygoza really knows how to throw out plot twists.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. It was very entertaining and I loved getting to know James and Emily. It was also really well written, which adds to its greatness. I have to give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
This book is about finding love. The kind of love that helps you heal from your past and move on to a better future. The characters are interesting and hard not to like, the story's a bit fast but easy to follow and keeps your attention. The book itself is a fast read, had I not had a bunch of other things going on I would have finished this in one sitting one afternoon.
James the bad boy rich kid who could care less about money meets Emily who is the quiet cleaning lady at his mothers house. They both have issues with love in the past and that effects their lives now. They have their trials and tests that push the limits for them but eventually they find healing from the past with one another.
This isn't the first from author Jennifer Raygoza but this is the first I have read from her. I look forward to more from her. I recommend it to all romance lovers!
First I want to start off by writing..AMAZING cover! That's what drew me in to take a look at the this book. Fantastic choice.
Sadly, this story fell completely apart for me. It was all over the place. Characters seemed to be thrown in just for filler purposes. The back and forth fighting, no I don't want to be with you or no I really love you was overwhelming. Jame's inner dialogue and constant self question asking was too much.
The timeline seemed really off as well. If I'm not mistaken the book cover about 3-4 months of time. A lot happens during that time, but nothing seems to have completion or closure or explanation. I was really confused by the end of the book. He's been disowned, has no money, a baby on the way but takes insurance money and purchases a "Beamer" and will still have payments on it..??? Next thing you know, in the last few percent of the book everything has changed. By the time I was finished, my head was spinning.
What an incredible and touching story. I Like that it's written from James' POV, so you're feeling closer to all the things he and Emily have to go through or fight for. Their whole story is really touching and will get under your Skin and to your heart instantly with ervery page you turn. It's awesome and inspiring, too, to see how James fights with his demons, and Emilys as well, to be with the woman he has fallen so hard for. No matter what obstacle or stone is thrown on his way, he doesn't just fight for himslef but for his Emily, too. He wants to be her silver lining, as she is already his. Will Emily let her walls down? Just read it! Highly recommended! You won't be disappointed, believe me!
I loved this book! James King is released from jail. He was in there for charges relating to drugs thanks to his friend whom he trusted. He come family a wealthy family who owns hotels. His father started the business but his mother has now taken over it and is greedy. She favors her son Chad over James. Chad is the perfect son and James seems to be the one who is always causing her problems.
James meets Emily, his mothers maid and likes her. She has a troubling past with an ex boyfriend. This makes it hard for James and her to be in a relationship. The have a bumpy road but he helps her see it is worth it to be scared and take chances.
I was given the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion so here goes.
It's a brilliant fast read book about love but real life love that draws you in.
We first meet James who is fresh out of prison after being stitched up by a so called friend. James comes from a wealthy family and therefore was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. We then meet Emily his mum's maid and romance blossoms between the 2 of them. But there romance has alot of bumpy roads but they overcome them.
I really enjoyed this book and loved it was written from a male's POV.
I was given this free for my honest review, this author is new to me and I have to say what a great read, it is certainly a book you snuggle down and let it take you, James is from money but is so down to earth you will love him the bad breaks he has had because of so called friends and a mother no one would want. Emily is such a sweet girl just trying to earn money to send to her family and has gone through an awful relationship, the hurdles they face and how they each deal with them gets your heart and you just want them to have an easy time. it's a great story that is written very well and it all goes at a steady pace, I would definitely keep this author in mind in the future.
The story has laughs, drama, drama, drama and heartbreak.
This is Emily and James’s story. James did time for a crime he didn’t commit. His girlfriend moved on while he was inside. His mother is freaking evil to the extreme. Emily is his mother’s housekeeper. They are both a little broken. But between the two of them they might be able to make it. When James is kicked out Emily steps up to help. They become friends that turn into more. Will they be able to hope for something even better? Or will both their family ruin everything before it get to far?
I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
What a fantastic and smooth read…a story that shows life's ups, downs, broken and wonderful promises as well as an old fashion kind of deep faith in "love". James King is the son of Hotel Entrepreneur Victoria King, a ruthless, greedy mother who will go to any lengths to get what she believes she deserves…including the incarceration of her own son James. I love how relatable and likable the characters are. Author Jennifer Raygoza, makes it easy to fall in love with her main character James…a bad boy type with a good boy's heart. Although it is an adult read, it is tastefully written without all the cheesy smut of adult content books. Great job! Will definitely recommend to my adult friends!
