Knitting in the City #6.5

Scenes from the Hallway

Rate this book
You know who I am.

I swear too much, I crack too many jokes, and I got a thing for Kat Tanner; a messy thing, a distracting thing, a getting-in-the-way-of-everything thing; a thing that makes being in the same room with the woman torture. Sometimes it's the good kind. Mostly, it's not.

What you don't know is how it all started. You don't know how we met, you might not know what happened in Vegas (or the morning after), and you definitely don't know what happened after that.

You want to know the story before the story? Well... here you go.

But be careful what you ask for. As I've discovered the hard way, you might not like it.

'Scenes from the Hallway' is a companion short prequel/short story (11k words) for Marriage of Inconvenience, and includes the first 3 chapters of that book.

Quick introduction to Kat and Dan's book.

Not essential to read but explains what happens in Vegas (and so far stayed there, too). Plus it shows some of the explosive chemistry these two have. Also, there are some hilarious quotes in there!

The nuns. Think of the nuns! Sister Francesca, Sister Theresa, Sister Madeline. They’re all dead and they’re all watching you. And they can see your hard-on. So let’s make it a hard-off, okay buddy?

Watching was difficult, and not just because witnessing another person vomit is on the bottom of my list of pastimes, right next to hearing news about Justin Bieber, and listening to Justin Bieber music, and thinking about Justin Bieber. That guy seems like a giant bag of dicks.

I just LOOOVE it when we get extra goodness from our favorite characters! Thank you Penny Reid for this wonderful preview novella.

If you want to know what this short story is about, the blurb says is all... It's the story before the story about Kat and Stan the security man. If you're a Knitting in the City fan, I doubt these two need any more introduction than that. Also, if you're a fan of the series I'm wondering why you're reading this review? What are you waiting for? Get it now before it's too late!

For those of you left, you have most likely not heard of this series, nor have you heard about Kat and Dan the security man. This romance has been in the making for a while, take it from someone who's already read it, it's sweet, touching, funny and sexy. Marriage of Inconvenience, book #7 is the last of the Knitting in the City series, but you don't have to read the entire series to love this couple. It's a wonderful read for any contemporary romance lover, and the best part of all is that you can get a preview with this FREE novella. So what are you waiting for!?

A beautiful woman with a great laugh who smells like cake and is named after candy? Fuck a duck, I was in love.

This went by wayyyy faster than I expected!! For those interested, there are four scenes and the book ends at the 41% mark, with the rest of the file being the first three chapters of MARRIAGE OF INCONVENIENCE. Am I disappointed there wasn't more? Absoluuuutely not.

She was a fucking billionaire heiress for Christ's sake. And who was I? Dan the Security Man. It would never work. Out of my league? Try out of my universe.

First of all, that was the perfect teaser introduction to this couple. Second, it perfectly whets the appetite for more. And third, this was free, because Reid is a darling, and how can you complain about free awesomeness?

Witnessing another person vomit is on the bottom of my life of pastimes, right next to hearing news about Justin Bieber, and listening to Justin Bieber music, and thinking about Justin Bieber. That guy seems like a giant bag of dicks.

Dan's voice is hilarious, Kat dropped a few yet-unheard-of (at least I'm pretty sure..) revelations, and I'm so so excited for the comedy, cussing, cuteness, and chemistry to come. #alliterationforthewin

I'm a lucky enough bish that I have an ARC of the final Knitting in the City book and I'm diving into that pronto; but I'm so happy I waited for this first. Grab this prequel now, folks!

This prequel to Marriage of Inconvenience is a nice little treat. Whether you’ve already read the novel or not, it’s fun to know how Kat and Dan met. The details of what happened between them in Las Vegas puts their relationship status at the beginning of the full-length book more in focus.

The author warns that the novella contains a lot of foul language. Believe me, it does not come anywhere close to the amount Dan curses in Marriage of Inconvenience. That degree of swearing would normally turn me off, but for some reason I find it hilarious and part of Dan’s charm.

This short story is only four chapters long, but it includes the first three chapters of Marriage of Inconvenience which should whet your appetite for the amazingly entertaining book.

Kat seemed like a non person in the earlier books but now I'm in love with her! Vulnerable, kind, struggling with the history of mental instability in her family yet still so determined to make her own way and have a good life, I was rooting so much for her!

Alas, Dan wasn't the man who deserved her, IMO. Nice enough in a general way, he was experienced with women and likes Kat but when he found out that she had a sexual history

Oh man, Kat and Dan's book is going to be so good!

This short story introduces us to Dan, and how he ends up meeting Kat when his security work with Quinn (Neanderthal meets Human) leads him to be part of the detail protecting Janie. We get chapters from both Dan and Kat's points of view, how they start out as friends attracted to each other but then things happen and life intervenes and they are kind of in limbo. Dan swears a lot, he's quite funny and I can't wait to see how their relationship will take off in Marriage of Inconvenience!

Get it while it is hot!

This short (way too short - but it is a free gift so I am not complaining) is only available for a short time, and will then go away forever. It is the perfect way to wet you appetite for Marriage of Inconvenience (Knitting in the City #7). I love these sneak peaks!

Well, I am glad to FINALLY know what happened in Vegas! (What happened in Vegas happened in book 1.5 of this series. This is book 6.5, so it's been a long time.) If I'm being completely honest, I was a little underwhelmed. It was a good story....just not the *great* one I expected.

This is a short novella that sets up the next book, Marriage of Inconvenience, which is where I'm heading next!

Penny Reid is a master of suspense and pretty much unparalleled when it comes to creating anticipation for an upcoming book. Marriage of Inconvenience is my most anticipated book of 2018, and so reading the preliminary novella to the main attraction made me just slightly nervous that it couldn't live up to my own internal hype. It did though, amazingly! I loved all things about the four scenes in the novella as well as the sneak peak of the first three chapters of the upcoming novel. Admittedly, I had read much of this already via newsletters and blog posts, but having them all together in a novella was a very nice feature. This book is free too, which is such a generous thing for an author to do for her readers. I am full of admiration for Reid's attentiveness to her fans. She is an author who works hard to stay in touch with readers and she fully deserves her loyal readership.

The hallway scenes between Kat & Dan were equal parts funny and heartbreaking. I have already felt as if I know Dan pretty well as a character over the course of the Knitting in the City series, but Kat has been a shadowy figure for specific reasons. It was therefore a very welcome surprise to have insight into her here. Her internal monologues were very touching and the conflict that drives her characterization is one that I feel especially drawn to as a woman having lived through the difficulties of negotiating sexuality in a society that puts so much pressure on women to be "good girls." I am raising a 14-year old girl too and talk to her frequently about self-esteem issues, hoping that she can grow up to be confident and clear about what she wants from relationships.

I felt a little teary during the second hallway scene when Kat and Dan struggle to communicate after the hurt and misunderstandings of the drunken Vegas debacle. Kat's decision to let Dan go and force herself to move forward in her life without him had my eyes watering. I applaud her coping mechanisms even while also understanding the harm they can cause her. We know as readers too that this second hallway scene puts in motion Kat's two year self-imposed moratorium on communicating with Dan, and having lived through Books 3-6 of long-suffering looks, unrequited feelings of love, and silence for both of them, it was fairly tragic to read their final scene together. Thankfully there is an end in sight very soon and I am thrilled beyond the telling that Kat & Dan can find a way to each other. March can't get here fast enough.

Snippets taken through various time stamps from the Knitting in the City series, focusing on Kat and Dan. Makes me want to read their story even more. Dan has been Quinn’s steady and loyal friend and employee, playing many secondary roles throughout the various books. Kat has been a neurotic introvert, sitting in the corner through most of the books; what will Reid cook up for them?

I've been putting off reading this novella for a year.
Reason: It's the beginning of the end.
This series is really close to my heart and I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters. But I am so glad that I finally got to reading it because aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh. Dan and Kat are so damn cute and the setting of their story is super exciting. Also, the flirting in chapter one was everything😂.

"She likes dogs." I sighed, saying this mostly to myself. Because of course she likes dogs.
"I love dogs." She nodded enthusiastically.
"You should meet my dog."
"I'd love to."
"He'd love you."

Can't wait to read the final book!

I loved these scenes! You will never hear me complain about getting more of Kat and Dan, or really any of her characters. I already read MOI and that last scene makes me want to reread the book all over again. That last scene had my cold dead heart hurting for Kat. I want to pet her hair and tell her everything will work out for future Kat.

Penny Reid is such a tease.

This was short, sweet and addicting.
As always when I read Penny I read it slow and taking every word and letter in.
This is a couple of scenes with Kat and Dan before we get a chance to read their book

I wish I haven't read it. Because I can't wait to read next book in the series.
I am in love with this series.

Why I torture myself?! When I know I am so impatient to read this. And till now I have avoided reading any sneak peaks.

This is for all the fans. But if someone is reading this by accident and you haven't read it just read this series already. Such a great and funny read. There are great men in there but also amazing woman. The group forms strong bond of friendship. I LOVE IT. ALL OF IT.

But still till I get my hands on the next book I am in pure agony and it is all my fault.

Fuck a duck.

Love the Knitting series

What a fun quick addition to the Knitting series. Penny Reid always creates great storylines be it a full box or a short story. This is no exception. Also included is a preview to Dan the security man story. WOW is that going to be good.
