Taking a chance and making a change after his divorce, Trapper Del rio signs up for personal training services to get in better shape for his embedded reporting gig with the Army. TFA Fitness Center is known for their discretion, having trained the famous and infamous alike over the years. When he meets the adorable curvy woman working at the Smoothie Bar, who blushes every time their eyes meet, Trapper wants to see where the explosive chemistry may lead. After making a fool of herself the moment Trapper came up to her bar, Jessica Buckley didn’t believe the hot Latino reporter actually asked her out on a date. With a little prodding from her friends, Jessica risks dating Trapper, only to find him even more interesting off-camera. Jessica carefully navigates the intense feelings building between them, unsure she’s ready to give Trapper her heart, aware he’s going overseas in a few short months.
Jenn’s love of writing started the year she received her first diary and Nancy Drew novel. Throughout her teenage years, she kept a diary of her personal thoughts and feelings but graduated from Nancy Drew to other mystery suspense novels.
Jenn often adds a thriller and suspense element to anything she writes be it Romance, Science Fiction, or Fantasy.
As always when I pick up a book by a new author I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised with this addition to my library.
Trapper Del rio is a very popular television newscaster about to give his career a twist. Having signed up to embed in a deployment, reporting on conditions overseas he is about to do some extensive training to get in shape.
Jessica runs the juice/smoothie bar at TFA Training Center. This is not your typical gym, the trainers here cater to the elite helping each client meet a specific goal in a set amount of time. There are rules about client/employee relationships, Jessica now has a problem as the one celebrity on the planet she has a crush on begins his training.
Now Jessica doesn't get fired for fangirling and the comedy of errors as these two begin dating is fun and sexy. The challenges of dating a well known person combined with Jessica's common sense lead to an intense beginning of a relationship.
I laughed and cried and held my breath as this tale unfolds.
I also fell in love with a bunch of characters here, I hope this continues into a series.
Jessica is working at a smoothie bar at an upscale training center when she sees Trapper, a news celebrity. He has come in to work with a trainer to get fit for an embedded assignment. Jessica is a huge fan of Trapper’s but she is too shy to speak with him. Her friend, Rava, is Trapper’s trainer and she does get them together. Their relationship gets off to a slow start, taking about half the book to mature to intimacy. Once they start, though, wow! The sex is hot and explicit. They can’t get enough of each other. But the time comes when he needs to go on his assignment. Can their relationship survive the separation? Definitely worth reading – especially if you like books when the man is obsessed with pleasing his woman. I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
“That News Guy” by Jenn Nixon is a great romance novel. This is not a clean romance novel but it is a good read. Jessica Buckley works at a upscale fitness center that is known for training famous people. When Trapper Del rio shows up for training, Jessica turns into a bumbling fan girl. She continually embarrasses herself in front of him. But the attraction between the two is electric. With some coaxing from her friends, Jessica agrees to go out with Trapper even though he will be leaving soon for a mission with the Army. As they get to know each other, their feelings get stronger. Jessica wonders how she will live without Trapper while he is gone on his mission. This is a great read for anyone who enjoys a little “spice” in their romance novels.
I must start off by saying I usually don't read straight up romance but since I've read everything else by Jenn Nixon, I thought why not. I was hooked from The beginning. The story is easy to read and you soon find yourself rooting for Trapper and Jessica or wishing you were one of them. What I really liked was how relatable the characters are. Maybe it's because they are both in their 40's and I'm in my 40's and divorced so I can relate. If you are looking for something fresh, new,, and like your romances with some heat then get this book. You won't be disappointed.
A lively and spicy romance, full of wit. The pace bounces along, without lagging, and the plot manages to play with conventions, and undermine a few clichés. Highly recommended.
Jess and Trapper's story is so touching. Just 2 people falling in love, navigating some minor hurdles and finding their lobster. I will be reading more by this author.
Thought I’d love it ,but just disappointed as usual....
F I really thought Jess and Trapper ( who I still don’t know why he was called that ) ( I know why he didn’t use his real name but I must have missed the part where we’re told where “Trapper” comes from) and I did at first... But these were two of the most insecure ppl I’ve ever had the misfortune to read about ,at first it made sense but at 50-60% of the book it had gotten soo old I wanted to scream....
And as speaking as a woman who is both over 40 and a “plus size” I can’t express how sick to death I am of these self loathing idiots.... Jess is constantly blushing through out the book, fine if that’s just her nature, ok fine , but after dating a guy for two months who’s absolutely crazy about you for you to listen to nasty comments from ppl you don’t even know and dump w/out explanation or excuse without giving the poor astard a chance to talk to you or understand, when he’s going off to a war zone because of your over blown insecurities,is just to selfish to bare... Dear lord I just wanted to slap that stupid itch silly ,and ask her WTF?!?!?! I mean one minute your thinking there’s no good guys out there, you get not only a good one but one you’ve been panting over for years and no matter you’ve both promised honesty and he’s F you silly and treated you great, your not only not going to own who are ..... your gonna kick him to the curb w/a word... When Jess did that she lost me.... One minute in romance books the h is complaining there’s no good men around the next she’s throwing hers away... it was soo stupid and petty... Just because a woman isn’t skinny doesn’t mean she has to lack self confidence and be self hating all the time... please either right a strong woman who happens to be bigger or don’t write them at all... and the thing is usually these “bigger” ,”curvy”, “fluffy” “BBW” women never sound all that big... they never sound like their bigger than a size 12 maybe... They never sound like a walk around a block might leave them wheezing, they NEVER sound like they have to shop at Catherine’s or even Lane Bryant (are they still bigger clothes ? I don’t know) these women always sound like they can get their clothes any where from target 🎯 to Victoria’s Secret... They never sound all that big at all ... they can fit in just one seat 💺 on an airplane and wouldn’t need to ask for an extender on their seat belts but they all act like they’re hideous creatures that can only wear specially made clothes for their enormous size.... a size much much too big to be able to a) be able to get on their knees to pleasure their boyfriend in the back of a limo or b) to big to easily crawl on top of him and bounce up and down with out hurting herself or him... Now we know these women are NEVER ever anywhere near that big, and while I know it doesn’t matter how big or little you are it’s all in the eye of the beholder, you could only be as little as 5-10lbs over weight and if you think your a huge cow ,your gonna see a huge cow... it’s all about perspective... But I want a book that’s fun ( hopefully ) and lifts me up and makes me or helps me believe a better me is possible ,even if it’s tiny lil pixies 🧚♀️ or huge blue giants on a frozen planet, or vampires or demi gods we’ve long forgotten about... women in their 20s or women in their 40s ( not enough of those) young, skinny, fat ,old what ever...
But insecure women ( no matter their age etc) who spend just about the while book self obsessed and insecure never seeming to grow, while the H acts the same way, both swearing honesty yet to cowardly to give it... then sending him off to a war zone more worried about her sorry stupid rear then his own life... she’s soo dang dumb she doesn’t even open his gift or even try to be in touch with him... he drags himself home ,desperate for you, heads you lame donkey story and forgives you way way too easily and then in the next to last chapter you gonna act kinda like a Dom. and order him around... Ppffffffttttt, too little to late sister,I no longer give a beaver ...( what do they build) ( gotta be creative to pass the review) Basically in my opinion, the story starts off fun w/a good premise and refreshing characters to have both over forty and not suffering from empty nest or any of the typical tropes for ppl our their 30’s ... ppl still trying to see what they want to be when they grow up... I like that and I relate.... not all of us are blessed with kids and such... I think most of us while we may be older and hopefully wiser,we’re still the ppl we always were ,still seeking to find where we belong and just want to feel loved and safe.... And while we all have our insecurities we have to deal with, this seemed to get lost in them and sex.... Honestly I’d sum this up as to very insecure ppl who fell in love and had lots and lots of sex,and when they weren’t having sex they were letting their insecurities blind them and lead them.. And by the end I’d had way too much of both...
Jessi was a bit immature I think for the age she was supposed to be and very insecure. For the most part I didn't mind her, but at where the angst picked up, that was where her character broke down for me.
It was a good story overall though, just that bit bugged me.
