Recipe for the perfect Orlando Adventures Take a little bit of Orlando magic. Scatter a sprinkling of Disney fairy dust. Add in a bucketful of Black Country cynicism. One Grumpy Middle-Aged Dad. Combine slowly with two weeks of boiling hot weather, a pair of teenage kids, a highly-strung wife and a massive overdraft. Oh, and daily thunderstorms. Then stir. Slowly. Until Grumpy Middle-Aged Dad reaches boiling point. From Dudley to Disney – take a trip with Grumpy as he blogs his way around Orlando, trekking from one park to the other whilst spending a fortune in 100 degree heat. Grumpy Middle-Aged Dad – Adventures in Orlando captures all of the madness, frustration and chaos of a Black Country bloke and full time miserable git on his third "once in a lifetime" holiday in the Sunshine State, allegedly the World’s favourite holiday destination... pah. Michael Hadley is The Grumpy Middle-Aged Dad, and he really is grumpy. Born and brought up in the heart of The Black Country, Hadley captures all of the regions’ sarcastic, sardonic, sense of humour in a sideways swipe at the sickly sweet world of Disney and Orlando. About the author (me) Michael Hadley is the Grumpy Middle-Aged Dad. Aged 49. Hadley was born at an early age and brought up by Wolves in the heart of The Black Country. After surviving the wilds of school in downtown Coseley, failing his A levels in a-bit-posher Sedgley, and disappointing his Dad by working in the family business in Brierley Hill, he eventually settled down with gorgeous Wifey and two amazing Teenage Kids on the outskirts of Wolverhampton. With absolutely zero writing experience and even less talent, Hadley decided to have a crack at writing a funny book after finding out that you don’t really need to be funny or any good at writing to be a writer as Amazon will literally (excuse the pun) publish anything, even on Kindle (which until now I thought was a South African candle) Hadley’s first foray (isn’t that a nice word?) into writing is his first and probably only book, Grumpy Middle-Aged Dad – Adventures in Orlando. In this book, Hadley (why am I writing this like I don’t know myself? Everybody knows this is being written by me) blogs his way around the best-known sites of Orlando, including all of Mr Disney’s finest Psycho Parks and a few trips to see Mr Universal. At the end of the day, Hadley’s having a go so fair play. It’s better than not bothering (but not much) and goes to show what can be achieved with almost no talent, lots of spare time, a good laptop and an abundance of alcohol. All proceeds from the sale of this book go to two UK charities, so stop reading this and just buy it.
Bought this for my husband for Christmas, having followed the adventures on a facebook blog at the time. It seemed so appropriate ahead of our Florida trip this summer. I heard him chuckling away, so I decided to read the book myself. Describes holidays with older teenagers to a T - could be our family!! It's a fun read, and the summary at the end sums up Disney for me.
Middle aged, grumpy at the drop of a Panama hat(you need to read the book) We've all been there. Hits the nail on the head with surgical precision as to what's going thro grumpy middle aged men's head at any given moment. Not just for holidays of a lifetime but life in general. Laughed out loud reading this,so much so that my wifey almost ,almost, asked what I was reading. If it's his first go at writing then there a light been hidden under a bushel for too long! Only four stars due to length or lack thereof. Go for three or four weeks next time!!!
Loved it on the Facebook group and especially love now that they're all together in a book. Pretty sure something on every page made me laugh out loud!
