Sarah Jayne Carr is a novelist who can be found most evenings with a cup of tea in-hand and her imagination racing from plot to plot. When away from her work, part of her mind is constantly brainstorming her next story and she always has writing paraphernalia within reach.

She wrote stories as a child, but became more serious about her passion during her twenties. In her spare time, she likes to read, splash in mud puddles, smell bookstores and eat Honeycrisp apples. Yearly, she participates in NaNoWriMo and has mentored others through the program. Due to her dedication to National Novel Writing Month, she is part of an amazing writing group.

Born and raised in Washington State, Sarah still resides in the area. Her life is richly filled with her supportive, yet swashbuckling husband and their golden Nugget.

Reading order of the JackRabbit7 series:
The ones with an asterisk are the short stories I wrote. They're backstories on the supporting characters and how their lives intertwine with Amelia's and/or JackRabbit7.

That is one of my top saddest books I've read this year now!!!!
I went into this thinking it was going to be a quick easy read - I WAS SO WRONG.

Up until 50% this book was going to be rated a 3 but by god that ending KILLED me!
Madelyn, then Adam and then that ending!!!!! That number - 278 is going to haunt me!!!!

Honestly, the first half of the book was quite slow and dragged at times but once you slowly started to understand everything it became so interesting..... Then the author had to go give me whiplash with the amount of pain and twists in the story in the last 15% of the book!

As much as I'd have loved a happy ending it wouldn't have made this book a 5 star. Also, if the thing with Adam hadn't happened then I would want a happily ever after but once that incident happened I was so greatful for how the author finished the book! The relief I felt that Blue was happy and content even if it was heartbreaking was much better than living out her life without Adam.

I feel sorry for her family but honestly I'm sitting here sobbing at 1 in the morning but honestly if the author hadn't given us that ending with Blue and Adam I would be more of a mess than I already am!!!

I loved Adam so much! He was amazing and I can't keep writing this review because I can't stop crying! Dear God what did I do to deserve this type of heartbreak!!!!

Sarah Jayne Carr you are an amazing and talented author but that ending was MEAN..... Just mean 😭😭😭😭😭

Free Kindle e-book in exchange for an honest review as part of the Indie June author month.

Still can't quite put my finger as to how this book made me feel.

Blue has to return to her small town for her step-father's funeral and all kinds of ghosts from her past appear.

Most of my reading this book, I struggled with what the rating was going to be. The writing was beautiful, but something inside the book itself had me struggling to resonate with Blue and what she was going through. I still don't know how to put it into words.

Therefore, I think my rating of 5 out of 5 stars will have to speak for itself. I almost gave it 4 stars, but the ending made me reconsider.

Blue by Jayne Carr is the only story I have ever had a wonderful yet hateful love affair with. I have read mysteries and thrillers where the twist was already apparent before the reveal. I counted at least six jaw-dropping twists that caught me off guard. I kept asking myself, "how had I not known." Like a toxic relationship, this book is filled with secrets and deception.

This story is about a girl that goes home after secretly taking off a couple of years back. She left her sibling, a horrible life, and much more. I would one hundred percent recommend this book to anyone.

I have no words…i didn’t know what I was expecting getting into this book. It was beautiful and ripped
My heart out. The fact that this book was the first to make me cry my eyes out says enough and I don’t cry easily. The way this book made me feel was raw.

Blue our MC ran away from her pain, she stayed away for 2 years, leaving everything behind. But now she’s back in the small town she grew up. She’s going to have to right some wrongs, can she fix things? Or is she too late??
Let me tell you… that ending though?!?! Damn… This totally and utterly wrecked me!

Tissues required

If the term “ugly cry” was in the dictionary, it would refer you to this story. I just can’t even see a way to recover from experiencing the heartbreaking life of Blue. There really are no words. Just lots of tears. I honestly feel such a personal loss that it’s hard to give anything other than an emotional perspective. Kudos to the author even if I currently despise her. LOL

I loved this book. The main character was relatable. She left her home town 2 years ago and swore she would never go back. She returns due to her stepfather passing away. She has to confront ALL of the reasons she ran from this place. She has a neglectful bitch of a mom. I was not expecting all of the emotions this book brought out of me. Once one thing unraveled, I needed to know more.
**This book has Trigger Warnings**
I was not expecting that ending, most of my predictions were wrong throughout this book. It had twists.
I still cannot get over the ending!
This book was really good and I enjoyed it.

This book was hard to get through, but only because of the deep themes. There are some TW(attempted rape, suicide.) I loved it because it made me feel Blue’s sadness, her rawness. This is what happens when we have trauma that doesn’t get helped. This book is real life.

Pretty much everyone I know was telling me I had to read this book, and that I would need time to recover from it. So I started it yesterday and it was very light-hearted and funny. Carr had endless puns which amused me to no end as a huge fan of corny puns. But then Blue ended up having to return to her hometown after literally running away from it and not returning for two years. While some things were still light-hearted, I started to get to the heart of the story. Everyone is angry with her, and with good reason, she left them behind. We the readers aren't exactly sure why. Thus the story starts to unfold.

Told in alternating timelines from past and present, as soon as Blue gets to Steele Falls, the anger starts with her not wanting to talk to Wesley about any of it. Her sister is being standoffish, her mother is absolutely horrible to her, which she completely expects, but it doesn't make it hurt any less. There's a guy named Adam who is being a total jerk to her and somehow she's gotten caught up with his friend Zack, whom she has zero interest in. What a mess!

But then we start learning that she has a past with Adam, and their story starts to unfold, in bits and pieces. Pieces that have you scrambling to grab a tissue, because their story, the reason she had to leave town, is heartbreaking. The more the past and present are weaved together, the harder it gets to put down the tissues, and Carr does nothing in the way to offer more when your tissue box runs out.

Blue is extremely well-written, impeccably edited, and has rich, detailed characters. She had me hooked from the beginning. I'm reading all of these reviews of Blue, with people saying how the book wrecked them, and it's absolutely correct. This was a book I borrowed in KU, and I'm well over my monthly book budget, but as soon as I finished it, I returned it and then bought it, it's just that good. Well done Ms. Carr!

This was my first time reading author Sarah Jayne Carr but it will NOT be my last!! This book gives the reader all of the feels....you will laugh, cry, yell, ugly cry, curse the author and most importantly ugly snot cry. There is no emotion that you won't feel when reading this book.

I loved Blue. I couldn't figure out why she was so angry with herself...the plot has so many twists, turns, loops and curves that the reader can't possibly predict everything that is going to happen. The author weaves a tale that leaves the readers gasping for breath as they frantically turn the pages of the book to see what happens next. This is one of those books that you will zoom through and instantly need to start again to see what you missed from the first read through.

Blue and Adam have chemistry...but Adam despises Blue and it isn't readily apparent why. The author has created characters that are flawed and real and the reader wants to become friends with them in real life. The reader thinks about the story long after they have finished reading it. The reader hates the ending but at the same time realizes it is the perfect ending.

Don't hesitate to add this one to your TBR list and move it straight to the top! It is that good - an instant new favorite for me and I am sure it will be one for you as well! My newest addiction! Enjoy and be sure to have some tissues handy, because you will need them!

I more than love this book!!! And 5 stars is no way near enough what this book deserves!
I have been shell shocked and heart broken for a long time afterwards. My heart was ripped out, tore to shreds and stomped on as I drowned in a sea of tears! The story gives you all the feels (crying, laughing, passion) from beginning to the end! It's captivating, passionate, and heart breaking.. even when you finish the book you'll never be finished.. physically yes but emotionally NEVER!!!!! It's beautifully classic like Romeo and Juliet!!!
I really wanted to slap the author (i love you Sarah but... LOL) because in certain scenes you had this feeling that something was coming you just felt it in your soul but youre like no she wouldnt do tjis to her readers at such a pivotal moment when the characters were just finding themselves again... BAM... shocking and brutal plot twist!!! (I'm telling you to have tissues handy!) Then you're sobbing and EVERYTHING changes in that moment!!!
It really is the most amazing book you'll read this year!! I urge everyone to read it!!!
The author did a fantastic job writing it.. never disappointed when I pick up a book by this author! When you feel so strongly and feel the connection down into your soul that's when you know you've just read the most amazing book!!!
And it's a book that will stay in your heart forever and you will remember often and your heart will break all over again!!!

I was warned that this book would break me, but after giggling through the first chapter, I didn't believe it. Now, as tears stream down my face, I believe.

I can't even begin to describe what this book made me feel. It was raw and emotional, yet also funny and sweet. The author certainly knows how to take you on an emotional roller coaster ride, that's for damn sure!

It started off with Blue going through her days with her walls up, never letting anyone in. Then slowly, over time, those walls were broken down. Everything about this story drew me in. It wasn't like any other. The characters were so unique, often frustrating, but unique. Their tales were all interwoven in a way I never expected, and it truly kept me on the edge of my seat. I could feel the build of anxiety as it all unraveled.

Sarah Jayne Carr is a new author to me, but one I will definitely be reading more of. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good ugly cry. Don't let the start fool you, you will break down, and you'll be left sitting there with a tear stained face, wondering what to do now. You broke me, Sarah.

I finished my copy of Blue by Sarah Jayne Carr

** please make sure you have tissues at the ready **

This was my first ugly cry novel, I loved it, it was very emotional which caused me to be a emotional wreck.

Blue was a sassy, no emotion woman who worked for a plastic surgeon after moving home two years ago. Blue has a past which she has ran from without letting anyone in.

Blue' s sister rang her to tell her about her step fathers death, reluctantly she went back to her home town she ran away from. Nobody knew what had happened two years ago or her secret loving relationship. Soon as Blue got back Into town she ran into 'Adam' things was a little heated and rocky between them, little did anyone know that they had a past.

Blue was a woman who kept secrets for two years, never getting close to anyone. Although she ran from her past she headed straight back into it, she has had her fair share of heartbreak which brings you with her and her emotional rollercoaster life.

I loved this book, I smiled and cried! This is a warning type of novel to have tissues at the ready and to not read in public.

Right from the start this story had me in its clutches. The very opening had me wondering “Why??”. Why was she doing this? Why was her life like this? Throughout the story, bits and pieces were explained but more “why’s” came up as well. I couldn’t read it fast enough to figure out all the pieces of the puzzle the author was laying down for me.

There were many surprises in this book – most of which caught me off guard. Normally I can see things coming but most of the time in this story I didn’t see them coming.

There was all kinds of emotions in this story because I completely fell in love with Blue and went through all the emotions she went through: Joy, sadness, angst, pain, guilt, laughter, love, everything! I was an emotional wreck throughout!

This book was absolutely amazing and one that will stay with me for a while. Not sure when I will be able to start another book after reading this one – I need some time to recover!

This book is great. I didn't expect it to be so good. I started reading it at 9 pm and finished it at 6 am. That means that today I only slept for one hour, before I had to drive my son to the kindergarden and go to work. But it was totaly worth it. Today I was zombie, but the book is exceptional. All the charachters are intertwined and there is nothing predictable about the book. Usualy I don't like this kind of endings, but here is different. I don't know why, but I felt content about the end. I cried a river, bit who cares, right? I just couldn't put it down.. I love Blue and Adams story. You definitely have to read this book!

What can I say about Blue? What an amazingly well written story. It destroyed me in the best and worst possible way. It gives the reader so many different emotions and I’m not ashamed to admit I ugly cried with this book. After I finished it, I wished it had ended differently. But in all honesty, I don’t think the story would’ve been as amazing as it is without the ending exactly the way it is.

Sarah’s story is so well written. The storyline flows, the characters are relatable and I thoroughly enjoyed this book even though my heart shattered into “287” million pieces.

Well done Sarah on your amazing first venture into romance!!!

My heart is breaking in many ways. Madelyns story reminds me of my dad's last months...
Blue is confused with lots of guilt carrying arround for two years. So many untold fears, secrets pulling her appart from her family, her heart -Adam. Getting back home is a new beginning or opening her wounds again. A very fine rollercoaster of feelings and the story is written in unexpected ways and turns. Just loved it.

This book was amazing. It was well written, had a nice plot, and gave me all the feels. I will admit I was a little hesitant when I first started reading it but I was hooked pretty quickly and stayed up all night reading it. The romance in here was so sweet and the whole book made my heart hurt (but I loved it). This is definitely a must read when you want something emotional. CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS!!!!!
Im speachless. It was so well written and I felt everything. It was heartbreaking through and through. I cried so much, I can relate to some of what happened to Blue. Her relationship with her family (especially her mom) felt utterly real and devastating. Started it at 8pm last night and had to put it down when I was at 93%, I just knew I wouldn't be able to handle what happened next. I could feel it.

I wanted to like this book, I really really did. But I don’t enjoy blind sides in the last 10% of the story. Feels like it was easy way out for the storyline that could’ve gone on much longer, or even into more than one book.

Unearthing dark secrets

OMG! These are one of the few books that you remember after reading it. It’s not so much the interesting storyline or plot twists. It’s dark, it’s emotional and leaving you wanting more.

I had to take a break from my kindle just to recover.

I received a copy of this book from the author with the promise to write an honest review when I finished. The opinion below is my own.

I wanted to like this book, I really did. Carr wrote some really good characters — Elaina was absolutely awful, and I liked Finn’s self-awareness — but most of the rest were either completely self-absorbed (Blue), annoying as hell (Daveigh), or unnecessary (Lisa, Zach, Beanbag, etc). Cash’s sudden personality transformation at the end stretched credulity. The pacing was too slow; I was more than halfway through before she did anything more than hint at The Big Thing That Caused Blue to Run Away. The entire story happened in the last 1/3 of the book; the rest felt like filler.

The scene with Tom needs a content warning.

I’m not a fan in general of books with worst-outcome plot twists; if I want to read about real life, I have subscriptions to a half dozen newspapers. I was displeased that Blue and Adam didn’t get a happy-ever-after. (I believe my exact words to my husband at about 85% were, “I’m going to be SO pissed if he dies!”) And I have so many issues with how Blue ended up with his heart — ethical issues, legal issues, moral issues... (And let’s face it: $5mm is nowhere near enough for that scenario to actually happen, even if Elaina *did* have any way to actually access the funds Blue inherited.)

I hate giving bad reviews, especially when the author was kind enough to give me a copy of their work. But I promised honesty, and I didn’t care for this story.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. What follows is my opinion and my opinion only.

This book has so many emotions that you are either reading through the whole thing in one setting or setting it aside to gather what you've just read. I happen to have been the latter.

The beginning of Blue instantly caught me off guard. It reminded me of a similar experience and I had to bust out laughing. I got what Blue was saying and there was no doubt it was worth every giggle and guffaw.

And then came the rest of the book . . .

Talk about a spree of emotions. This is not a comedy. It is a drama. You will find yourself cheering on the characters, getting angry at the characters, and laughing at them. You will want to toss the book, pick it back up, read, and toss it again.

And the ending . . . .

Oh, that horrible and beautiful and . . . dear God, it's hard to explain without giving anything away. Just be sure to have a box of kleenex nearby.

So, who is Blue? Blue is a girl running away from her troubles. She is snarky and fucked up. She is a prickly character who is hard to love. Luckily, Carr fixes that by showing tidbits of Blue's softer nature. It's shown close in the beginning too, so, you are able to have some kind of relationship with the main character.

Would I read this book again? I think I would. I would need some time away from it though. Do I recommend the read? Definitely for the peeps who aren't afraid to cry while reading.

Wow. That is the first word that comes to mind after reading BLUE by Author Sarah Jayne Carr. This book was absolutely INCREDIBLE….but just a head’s up…it will destroy you. The characters were of all different history and backstories: some hidden, some submerged in deep darkness, some are just blinded.

This book literally had ALL THE FEELS…starting with laughing throughout the beginning, to some hard-core ugly crying in parts as well. I am seriously struggling with moving on to another book after this one. It was deeply emotional and just so damn good. I feel emotionally connected to the characters and just loved them all for the very reasons they were each in the story. The main character, Blue Brennan, goes through so much turmoil. So many ups and downs and I just wanted to reach into this book and give her a big hug. She is such a bitter soul, but you totally understand by the end of this book why it is justified.

“Obstacles don’t block the path – they are the path.”

Cash, Zach, Beanbag (Wesley), Adam…all of these men in this story all play an integral part in the storyline. Sister Daveigh, brother Finn, her “momster”, just everyone! The author did such a stellar job writing this heart breaking romance. I HIGHLY recommend having a box of tissues ready…you will undoubtedly need them. 5 stars…but this is one of those I would give more if I could!!!

A girl, Blue, goes back home after 2 yrs for a funeral. ALL her old wounds get ripped open & she has to face everything, her mom, sister, the love of her life. She skipped town on them 2 yrs before because she was scared, hurt & lost. Trying to save herself, she destroyed her. After coming home she found herself again & what she thought was gonna be her "happily ever after".

Boy, was there some twists & turns you NEVER seen or thought were coming! Again...READ THIS BOOK! ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I EVER DID WAS PUT THIS ON MY TBR & READ IT!!

P.S. I LOVED her neighbor, Ralph! Especially his alligator meat comment!

Each character in this book has their own tale to tell and I really enjoyed the fact that there were a few backstories which all linked together and that some of the characters weren't exactly whom you'd imagined them to be from the start. I also liked the fact that it wasn't a full on romance novel and there was more of a storyline which keeps the reader engaged! Overall I enjoyed it a lot and would definitely recommend it. This book has you feeling happy, sad and frustrated all in one go!

Holy what did I just read? WOW!!!! Just wow. Got pulled in and then wasn’t sure about it. The things started making tons of sense. Was happy they figured it and and then WHAM….. the ending was a shocker. I had to reread the last 2 pages a couple times just to make sure I was reading it right.

This was definitely an emotional read. I cried, and I am not normally an emotional reader. It hopped a bit between several scenes, but it wasn't jarring as some books can be. The scenes were clearly separate. If you need a good cry this is definitely the book for you! Definitely a five star read for me!

Ended to quickly!!

This book was so good I couldn't stop myself from thinking about it when I wasn't busy reading it! The author managed to keep a lot of mystery in her writing. Who were the characters and how did it play into the story line. I enjoyed this one but wasn't ready for it it to end. I cried on and off throughout the book and I really enjoyed it!! @ Dashiemom1
