On a crisp autumn day Mouse and Minka celebrate fall by jumping in a pile of leaves in this adorable Pre-Level 1 Ready-to-Read book about fall!
One cool fall day, Mouse and Minka come out to play! They are greeted by red, yellow, orange, and brown leaves of all shapes and sizes. Mouse runs and skips and kicks and swishes through all the leaves.
Young readers are sure to enjoy Lauren Thompson’s simple, energetic text and Buket Erdogan’s sweet, playful illustrations as they learn to recognize words and begin to read on their very own!
This book is bizarre. I was left with two questions: one, was there something wrong with the printer? (Because all of the illustrations were dimly-lit, even though the book is set during the daytime.) And two, was the writer of this book a native English speaker? Because the language was nonsensical and the use of bolded text is... also nonsensical. Ugh. Come on, reader-level books, we can do better!
Confusingly, the book states on its cover that it was "previously published with slightly different text." I wonder if it was any better on its first go-round? With a separate writer and illustrator, one would think better attention could be paid to the story.
First off let me rip the Band-Aid off, I have to say that the wording was weird. I wasn't sure if it's because it was made for really early readers. Or if that was just the way it was. But it was weird to read aloud. Cassie really enjoyed looking at the illustrations in this book and I used this time to talk about what color are the leaves. But other then she was pretty bored for the book and really just wanted to move on. I recommend this book for a person really learning how to read but not for a read aloud.
In the easy reader Mouse Loves Fall by Lauren Thompson, Mouse and Minka go out into the fall weather to play in the leaves. They discover colors, shapes, textures and lots of fun as they rustle around in big piles of leaves. This book is perfect for beginning readers who are just starting to read sentences. The print is large and on a white background that runs underneath the deeply colored illustrations. For ages 5 – 7.
I feel like this is almost exactly the same as Mouse Loves Spring, which reminds me of 3rd grade when I changed the names and places and submitted the same story as homework again...and again...
This emergent reader focuses on color, number, adjective, and verb words for beginning readers. The important words are in bold, so this could be a great introduction to the words themselves, or on grammar - specifically action words and adjectives. Would be great for younger ESL students.
An easy-reader picture book about two mice playing in the leaves on a cool autumn day. This would be a good book for beginning readers but unfortunately, the illustrations which are way too dark, limit its appeal.
My 2yo daughter loves these books. It did take me half a day to figure out which book she meant when she wanted to read "Out pops Minka". Very cute, easy to read, lovely illustrations.
Basically a reprint of the picture book with some bold words. They could've updated the illustrations a little... looks like they scanned it in and they became darker? Weird.
