Review:
Beats Apart is a love story told from two perspectives, M and F. As you can see the initials represent the gender of the perspectives narrating this story but if you expect that the two characters are boyfriend and girlfriend then you are surely mistaken. M is a man who has a girlfriend and F is his mistress.

This book is filled with the thoughts and opinions of both of the characters as they narrate how the story goes. The story starts with life after M broke up with his girlfriend and his mistress because he wanted them both, he cannot choose one of them so he decided to break it off with both of them and moved away from another city. When he moved away he thought that he would at least move on from his recent lovers, but he can't stop thinking about F—the mistress. F actually felt the same way about M, even though they are separated she can't stop thinking about him, she misses him.

One day, F received a letter saying that she got accepted to study in Brazil. Before leaving for Brazil she had to visit M one last time. When F visited M sparks flew and they had an unforgettable tryst. So unforgettable that M asked F to stay for a while. Much to his surprise, when F stayed in M's house, he found F's secret that shocked him to the core, a secret that made him question his relationship with F all this time. After finding that secret M is not so sure that F is "the one" for him.

To see each other is probably the only way to fix our heartbreak.

"To see each other is probably the only way to fix our heartbreak"

I was like, OH MY GOD INI AKU BANGET selama membaca meski konflik yang terjadi di hidupku dan hidup kedua tokoh jelas berbeda *malah curhat*

Really liked it!

"If it's true that home is where the heart is, then it means that I had just left home.
My short stay in your place is over, and now I am back to the same old room.
Back to my reality that has no routine.
Waking up at any time, dozing off in any minute.
Just me and my imagination."

"Being far from you has been quite challenging, but it has versed me plentiful things.
If being myself hurts me too much, I might have to be quite like you.
Talk less, reason more.
Think less, do more."

"What I thought I could conceive about love was that we could never love more than one person with the same level of strength at the same time."

"I love you and that is all.
All that I care about.
All that I would like to think of."

"Loving you is pain, but being with you is the remedy.
You are a drug that a patient needs to consume daily.
Or perhaps three times a day."

"You complete me, Can't I complete you?"

I was 15-16 when I first read Beats Apart on Tumblr. Now I just turned 20, I thought I might be too old to read this kind of thing I'd loved back when I was still romanticizing everything here and there.

Well, I was wrong. I still love this nonetheless.

A simple yet complicated tangle of a story. The narrations are heartfelt and meaningful, the layout nicely done and complemented with photos. I find some grammar mistakes but still enjoy the format and how the entries flow nonetheless.

Beats Apart by Alanda Kariza & Kevin Aditya

First of all, I gave standing ovation for Alanda, Kevin & Astra for bringing this kind of literary work as major-published book for Indonesian readers. As for me, this is a brave step from Indonesian pop publisher and of course, it wouldn't happen if you guys are not such cool kids magnets.

Personally I enjoyed this book, I love it as much as I always love Kevin's & Alanda's casual writings. I can relate to every piece. I understand that it used to be a blog and it didn't have any plot so each chapter just happened one after another. For those who don't know its original form might be a bit confused and lost.

I totally love the photos dividing one chapter to another. I love the layout although in some parts it just feels over-formatted.

The intimacy expressed in the story is more palpable if read through the blog than the book. But in this book, I also got another; the emotion that is perfectly illustrated through photographs that divide several parts and text arrangements that follow the flow. How M and F separately write out their thoughts defines their character. I personally can relate very well that even come to these, "Probably he would say this if this occurs to us." or "Did he think this when he was indecisive at that time?" or "Ah ya! This is what I thought when we got through this!" and such.
Good book to read, or to understand how distinct each person's point of view has.

(Anyway, I adore Kevin's rich vocabularies).

some love stories are told in a way that romanticized everything, even when its not really important. this book doesn't. it tells only one thing: feelings. the one element that undermines any love story, and this book tells it really, really good. you don't need the detail of where the characters are when they do this or that, but you certainly want to contemplate on what do they feel about each other? what do they feel when she lied to him? when he left her? it just that. feelings, in their pure form seeping to you through words written by these two. i don't know about you, but i read a love story to feel the love inside it. and this book gave me just that.

Not as sad and deep as I thought it would be. I've been a fan of Beats Apart since it was still written in a form of blog posts three years ago. So when I found out that Beats Apart was made into a book, I expected that it would wreck me emotionally. But, well.... I finished reading this book in one sitting and I didn't feel.... touched? I don't know. But it was so well written though. I even put page markers in some of my favorite parts. And the layouts! Oh the layouts are very beautiful.

I was recommended by someone (which is Kevin's friend) and been read it at the blog three years ago. I remember he said I would love this story and ta-daa! He was right! I totally love how the writers tell what do the characters feel about each other. I just need to stop questioning what will happen next and let myself get carried away. I do not feel any part of this book is superfluous (like many of love stories) and I have a sort of contemplation after finished it. Oh and I love the layouts! The layouts are beautiful.

I must point out that visually this book is stunning. However the story didnt quite meet my expectation. I had hard time connecting to both male and female characters, hence I didnt enjoy the story as much. To me the plot development seemed to be forced. But over all, it's still a nice read.

If you're looking for "an absolutely-non cheesy-beautifully written lovestory" this is the right one.

Well, unlike other people who already read some pieces of Beats Apart from blog, i could still happily enjoyed this book so much.

For some, this is very uneasy but it's worth to read.

I forgot to mention that i love all the photos here. It mixes beautifully with the story.

Recommended :)

Great opening. Boring development, I think this is because the mood is really sour and depressing for me who right now has a good mood. But this is such a good experimental project. So interesting. I love the layout design, it's pretty.

[26/70] Beats Apart - Alanda Kariza & Kevin Aditya ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 of 5)

First, Sophismata.
Puaaaass!

And now this; Beats Apart.

"It reminds me of you." - H

Tanpa tedeng aling-aling, langsung beli. Kok ya gampang banget dihasut mba? Feeling guilty karena baru aja tutup dompet buat harbolnas, eh udah buka dompet lagi. 😢

But....I must say that I love this book. Her books! Cerita cintanya kental tapi nyelekitnya pun sama. Saya suka sama endingnya :") I wish I would. Dan ada yang bilang untuk siapin tissue. Tapi saya ngga pakai tissuenya.

Intertwined. Divine. Words. Intersection. Sleuth. Shirt. Inevitabilty. Even. Desideratum. Inverse. Awe.

Fiks saya nunggu karya Alanda selanjutnya.
Sekian.

Romance story supposed to be between a protagonist couple. Between a man and a woman who already committed to be each other with no harm because they two are against the world even the storm break them apart. However, Alanda and Kevin made their own interesting plot. The lead character are a man who cheated with his published-girlfriend (M) and a woman who is loving that full-of-excuses-yet-greedy man (F). let's say, they are an antagonist couple. couple? can we call them couple? huh. I am intolerant for this kind of romance in a real life. But, I am enjoying how M and F going through their love journey. Actually F with her pure heart does not deserve M but this is how Alanda and Kevin making us forgiving their love story. Not containing lovey-dovey but more serving us a realistic love life.

This is also my very first novel in English. I am very contented with those rich yet strange vocabulary. Thanks to Alanda and Kevin. I already followed Beats Apart since they published it on the web until it came out as printed book with 2 cover type. I have both. hehe. I already read this for nth times but for the last time I read, I spent the whole book for less than 6 hours and worth to share it as my very 1st review in my Goodreads. Yehet!
