She can kill with one look, but he’s the only one who can save her.
Lorelei always believed she was cursed. Not only can she see the ghosts of the world all around her, she can pull a person’s soul right out of their body—a skill that comes in handy when you’re the adopted daughter of the crime boss of Las Vegas. But Lorelei wants a new life, one where she can help people rather than kill, so she runs away and invents a new identity as a medical student at a university.
Everything is great, until the mysterious and sexy stranger Killian shows up. If it weren’t enough that she dreamt about him her whole life, watched him die a thousand times in her sleep, he also gives off a powerful otherworldly vibe that scares the heck out of her. Strange things start happening, and it becomes clear that she’s being haunted, but by what she doesn’t know.
Is Killian a ghost? A demon? Something worse? And why is she so irresistibly drawn to him?
Her journey of self-discovery in this dark and twisted romance leads her to the most amazing and terrifying truth—she is the only one who can save the world, not just for the living, but also for the dead.

What I found the most interesting about Haunt is the plot. Lorelei's abilities are strange, but she doesn't know the half of what she is meant to do. She is both drawn to and leary of Killian, but he holds the key to it all.

The story is imaginative. The writing is good. I didn't realize Haunt was book 4 in The Bound Ones series so you can definitely read this book as a standalone.

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author*

It bounces between a 3 and 4 for me, but I liked it. I liked the idea. I'm always up for anything dealing with Death and this take was something familiar but still different. Lorelei's ability to take people's souls out of their bodies was anything but boring. The beginning seriously hooked me in, but somewhere along the moments of meeting Killian, things started to slow down for me, and it was weird, because even though things were continuing on, it just felt like nothing else was happening except for the constant moments where you have to hold your breath because something is going to happen and you know, like scary-movie know, that something is going to happen. The haunts were pretty creepy, Killian was adorable but a terrible liar (lol). I only had one moment of frustration and that was when Killian didn't tell her anything until much, much later. It isn't him I was frustrated with, but more with the fact that this frightening, tough girl couldn't wring anything out of the guy. Like, what? The ending totally slayed me though, so I left the book on a bittersweet note that I live for. It was pretty good, and if you like reapers-like stories, check it out.

Meh... I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest of the series. The complications in this book were too obvious. I knew who killed Lorelei’s parents almost immediately. Her fear of Killian seemed ridiculously unwarranted. She even tried killing him which made no sense if she felt drawn to him the way she did. It should have tempered her fear of him to some degree. Basically I found the book unbelievable as in I didn’t believe it.

Haunt is a very well written book by Tricia Barr. This is not my first book by this author so I had high expectations and I am happy to report they were not disappointed. The author came up with a book very unique and different from the paranormal book that are out there, that tend to cover vampires, were-creatures and magic in whatever form, so it is a breath of fresh air when an author for one writes about something completely different and two does it well! This book had me drawn in from the very first page and I was intrigued by the story of Lorelei, especially since I had no idea "what" she was. The plot was well developed and followed a great pace. There was always something happening so I never felt like the book was dragging out, but on the other hand I also never felt like the author was trying to rush the story.

Lorelei was an interesting character. I know she was only 17 but for her age and considering that she finished high school a year early and started college therefore a year early she seemed a tad immature. I will give her a pass for that though since due to the way she was raised she was rather sheltered and kept away from real life. Her extreme 180 about Killian once she figures out who he is was a tad unrealistic, but it does fit the story.

Killian was quite the mysterious guy, but you could tell he was not one of the bad ones but you can't figure out who he really is until the author wants you to.

All in all I really enjoyed this book and can recommend it to fellow lovers of the paranormal. There is a captivating plot, romance and some action, all well mixed together!

Lorelei has the power to rip souls from people and, of course, this soul ripping causes death. She can see ghosts as well. Some are bright, and some are gray. She also has dreams of a man she's never met, but knows in her heart and soul they were in love. While on the run from some very bad men in Las Vegas and trying to start a new life, fate brings Killian, the man of her dreams, into her life. She's drawn to him in a way she can't explain but she can't fight the love she seems to have for him. This strange attraction scares her so she does everything possible to stay away from him. Everything changes one night when she witnesses Killian using the same soul-ripping power to kill a man she knows was searching for her. In the meantime, a strange black shadow ghost has begun to haunt her and figures out a way to harm her physically. To protect the few people she loves, Lorelei runs, only to have Killian follow her. Is he a good guy or a bad guy? The only way to find out is to put her trust in him.

I loved Tricia Barr's new take on The Grim Reaper. Her description of The Gate, Heaven, and Hell was so imaginative and colorful. This is a sweet love story that lasted through time and beyond.

This book has so many emotions throughout it. A lot of beauty, but also sadness. It is about a girl name Lorelei who loses her parents as a child when they are murdered. She is raised in the home of Luca, whom she believes was a trusted family. Only to discover years later that he was the one who had her family killed.

Lorelei has an unusual gift of being able to pull the life out of people. When she discovers what Luca did, she takes his life. Lorelei and Luca's maid runs away to Seattle where they try to start a whole new life. She enrolls in college, and starts to make new friends. Upon first starting college she meets Killian, a boy she has dreamed about all of her life. Things get weird and she begins to think Killian is the one trying to hurt her. She becomes panic and tries to run away, but Killian follows her, and explains things to her.

She decides to go home and explain what happened to Camilla, but while she was gone Luca has paid a visit and hurt Camilla. Lorelei knows it is time to stop Luci, so she becomes a ghost, and then comes back long enough to finish Luca once and for all.

A very sad, but beautiful ending...

Haunt (The Bound Ones Book 4)

Haunt (The Bound Ones Book 4) ~ Some bonds reach beyond life itself.
Now Haunt… this one hit different. Where the first three books felt like a battle between elements, Haunt feels like a battle for the soul. Lorelei, the new protagonist, isn’t just haunted by ghosts — she is the haunting. There’s darkness in this story, but it’s the kind that whispers truths instead of screaming them.

This book took the series into a more gothic, introspective place — and I loved it. The tone is eerie, cinematic, and emotional, like The Crow meets Beautiful Creatures. You can feel the weight of death, love, and destiny woven into every scene. It’s slower and moodier than the others, but the atmosphere makes up for it.

If you’ve been following the Bound Ones journey, this book gives the series new depth and maturity. It’s about grief, redemption, and the fine line between saving others and losing yourself. The prose is hauntingly beautiful (no pun wasted), and the imagery lingers long after you close the book.

Barr took a risk here — and it paid off. Haunt doesn’t just continue the story; it transcends it.

Lorelei lives with crime boss Luca, following the murder of her parents. She uses her talents (killing others with a thought) to help him hunt down the killers, only they're no closer to the truth. Until her 17th birthday when she finds out the truth was closer than she realized.

Fleeing to college to start fresh, she runs into the man she's literally been dreaming about her whole life. Except in the dream, he dies, and now she can feel something's not quite as it seems with him. With new attacks coming at her from the spiritual realm, she'll have to decide if dream guy is friend... or the source of these new troubles.

This is part of a series, but it's written as a stand alone. I actually started with this one - it kind of smacks of Meet Joe Black, one of my favorite movies of all time. I found the story interesting, and quickly read through the book. I enjoyed it. It's an interesting take on the afterlife and gatekeepers and all that. Plus, romance. :)

I received an ARC of this. I absolutely loved reading this story! From start to finish it was great. I found the idea of being able to rip out souls to be awesome actually. I’ve never read a story like this before. I’m used to Soul Reapers who help souls go where they should go. So in this instant where the main character is able to do just that to bad guys that’s pretty cool. and I loved how there was a love story which spans over many life times. Fated love is wonderful I’m a hopeless romantic. I really loved how the main character Lorelei & Killian are meant for each other that throughout time they still love each other like that. I really was able to feel all the emotions in this story. That says a lot in my opinion. Author Tricia Barr did such a great job writing this story. I highly recommend this to read! I would love to see more of this story!

Different but enjoyable

Solid 4 star rating!
This was a different twist than I expected but had thoroughly enjoyed reading. The mystery around the H/h was very good on the author's part. Once the mystery was revealed, the author moved you through the rest of the storyline pretty quickly. She definitely took her time getting there though. If I'm correct this was book one to the series but book four to the continuation of a previous series. Regardless, it was a good read and definitely worth the time spent reading it. I'm looking forward to whether there's another installment coming or wondering if it's the only one.

Lorelei is a young woman who has lost her parents and lives with a mob boss. Her ability to kill his enemies is highly prized and he pampers her. She longs for independence and the college experience. Everything changes when she learns the truth of her past and her abilities.

This is a book with a lot of unexpected surprises. You really can't predict what is going on and it has a unique ending as well. I liked being surprised and not having everything be so predictable.

This book was really good. I loved the story. The beginning felt like it was being dragged on for a little while but eventually went at a steady pace. So much action in this book and towards the end it became very sweet and romantic. I both loved and hated the ending. It was perfectly imperfect! I yearned for more for both Lorelei and Killian but it was as it should be. No cliffhanger. A book I definitely recommend for teens and young adults.

I have never read anything from the author Tricia Barr before now. With that being said I am so glad I got this book and read it. It was not what I had expected at all. I loved reading it very much I fell in love with the story and characters. Tricia Barr made me feel like I was there living the story instead of reading it.

I received a free copy for an honest review. This has got to be the most interesting take on a reaper story I've ever heard. I really enjoyed reading it. There were times when I rooted for Lorelei and times when I cried for her. If you like love stories that transcend through time, then this is a good one for you.

Not for me

Got about 50% of the book and just didn't want to continue, and to be honest I'm not sure why I disliked it? Maybe because it started off like a crime boss book, then a haunting book, then a " you're the gatekeeper ECT. I didn't even like the main characters. So yeah I just stopped reading it, hate to continue something I'm not even invested in you know.

How original!

This story was very alluring for me because I love paranormal romance but they all have the same story lines. This book takes that to a whole new level with changes from the usual and more adventure in with the romance!

Superb Story! If you want a very unique an deeply moving supernatural book, this is it. The story starts out like a Young Adult novel but quickly morphs into a great story that hooks you and gives you a glimpse into an alternative belief.

I had recently received an ARC of this book, & honestly it gave me Raven Cycle vibes!

It wasn’t a bad story but it didn’t really hold my attention or suck me into the story. I loved the premise & the characters but felt the story was a bit rushed.

I don’t think I’ll be reading the second book...

Haunt is a unique, heartbreaking spin on the Grim Reaper myth. Lorelei can kill with one look, but there's only one who with the power to save her. Lorelei has always believed that she was cursed. Not only can she see the ghosts of the world all around her, but she has the ability to pull a person's soul right out of their body. This skill can come in handy since she's the adopted daughter of the crime boss of Las Vegas. Lorelei wants a brand new life, one where she can help people instead of killing, so she runs away and invents a new identity as a medical student at a university. Everything is great until she meets a mysterious, sexy stranger, Killian. If it weren't bad enough that she's dreamed about him for her entire life, and watched him die a thousand times in her dreams, he also gives off a powerful, otherworldly vibe that terrifies her. Strange things start to happen and it quickly becomes clear that she's being haunted, but she isn't sure what she's being haunted by. Is Killian a ghost, or even something worse?

This is a part of the Bound Ones series but you can read it without having read the first three books. Lorelei has such a great backstory and everything that occurs in the story is imaginative. She and Killian were such great characters and really make such a great pair. I never saw the ending coming and it really was perfect for the story!

If you like romance, you’ll like this book.
If you like just a little bit of “thrill,” you’ll like this book.
If you don’t mind getting a little bit misty-eyed, you’ll like this book.
Tricia does an awesome job combining all these elements into one terrific story. In my opinion, it’s a love story first and foremost. But it wouldn’t be what it is without those other components as well. The main characters, Lorelei and Killian, try their best to stay away from one another. But what fun would that be? While a little of what goes on is a bit on the “spooky” side, some of it is also funny. At least in Lorelei’s head. 😉
Your heart will beat faster from fear and also for love, and be sure to have the tissues handy! Haunted is sure to win your heart.
