A woman with amnesia and a former FBI agent find themselves in grave danger—and fighting an irresistible attraction!—in this sweeping romance originally published as The Interpreter in 2005!

He found her, barely conscious, on a dark Utah mountain road—a woman with an affinity for obscure languages and seemingly no memory of her identity. But ex-agent Mason Keller was not about to fall for that—and despite his attraction to her, he had the children entrusted in his care to think of....

Children that “Jane” found irresistible—after all, they, like she, were lost souls. Then her memory returned and she learned a lot of things she’d rather have forgotten. Like how much danger she, Mason and the children were really in. And how, like her past, her feelings for her rescuer were destined to be a permanent part of her life....

I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.

Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.

After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.

Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.

I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing.

I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.

Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way.

I love to hear from readers. You can reach me at my email address, raeannethayne@gmail.com

This book was okay, but did not have enough excitement to keep me from getting a bit bored. I did like the fact that Jane knew how to speak Tagalog with the Filipino children, as my hubby is half Filipino. But my main complaint is that Jane discovers a terrorist cell,is kidnapped, escapes, develops amnesia,is found by a former spy and his 2 kids, falls for them, remembers who she is and ends up rescued again, all in 3 days! And within this short a time, she will leave her native country and live on a farm in Utah. Okaaaay...

Mason, Jane and Two Kids! 3.45*****

I found out this novel was initially titled ‘’The Interpreter’’, and re-released under this new title. I really don’t like authors and publishers doing this, anyhow the plot and characters were interesting as still modern/ relevant.

We met retired, disgruntled CIA/ Counter Terrorist Agent Mason, whose Filipino coworkers were murdered, despite his warnings to his agency, and he adopted their two orphaned kids and returned them to his Utah ranch, to assuage his guilty soul. However his spy to fatherhood transition is not going as smoothly as he thought until he comes across unconscious ‘Jane’, along his mountain trail. Jane once awake has a concussion and realizes she has no clue who she is, but can speak fluent Tagalog to the kids. Their relationship goes up and down as waves pulled by the Moon’s waxing and waning forces.
In the end, he betrays her and hands her over to Vandulusia rouge diplomat and his FBI moles, but rescues her in the nick of time. The storyline is filled with bureaucratic snafus. Okay Summer read!

Not Her Best But Worthwhile. Recommend

I normally love RaeAnn Thayne’s books, but every once in a while, she writes one that isn’t up to her usual quality. This particular book had a lot of potential. The plot was great, the hero, heroine and children were extremely likeable characters and the villains were sufficiently evil. In addition, Thayne’s attention to writing mechanics was excellent, as always.

There was one main problem with the book, and that was the annoying repetition of the protagonists’ internal thoughts. Several times, the hero went over in his mind the situation with his friends’ deaths and his guardianship of their children. As well, his thoughts about the heroine vacillated between trusting her and not trusting her. His thoughts about his need to protect the children from possible harm from the heroine also were repeated more than once. In addition, the heroine spent too much time in her head, reflecting upon the circumstances surrounding her father’s death and about whether or not she was endangering the hero and his adopted children. The redundancy slowed down the story, became boring, added nothing to the story and seemed to be used as filler to increase the word count, instead of creating material that added to the story.

There were two lesser problems that were nonetheless annoying. One was a plot hole. The heroine overheard the villains while she was in a restaurant surrounded by people and the villains realized that she heard them. Then the scene cuts and she is a prisoner in the villains’ van. Why didn’t she alert someone in the restaurant, use the restaurant’s phone to call her colleagues or do anything to save herself and report terrorist activity?

The second lesser problem was the heroine’s stupid decision not to tell the hero or the authorities as soon as she regained her memory. Her failure to disclose this wasn’t given a credible explanation, it created a lot of problems and it undermined her credibility. The heroine came pretty close to TSTL (too stupid to live).

Despite the problems, I enjoyed the book, but it wasn’t as good as it could have been, which was a disappointment. However, it was a nice, light, perfectly clean book and I think that many readers would enjoy it. I recommend it, with the caveats given.

Thayne has written a riveting novel involving espionage and love

Mason,a retired Army ranger, returned to the ranch in the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. He had rescued two children in the Philippines and brought them to the ranch. An unidentified woman lies on the road as he was driving by and he stops to rescue her. The next three days at the ranch brings more questions than answers. Great read.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and loved the kids. The adventure had me reading late into the night in hopes I could find out how the story ends. I love RaeAnn's books. Her writing style is great and I always know I am in for a treat when I read her books.

Awful

This was unrealistic, overly dramatized and predictable. I put it down a couple of times ready to give up, but read on to see if it got better...it didn’t. Don’t waste your money to buy it or your time to get it in the library.

Jane is found passed out on a mountain road with amnesia. Mason rescues her but is very skeptical about her amnesia. As she stays with him and his adopted children trying to get her memory back world terror events rise…

I really liked this story. But. For a story with only one somewhat explicit scene, the words “aroused” and “erotic” were used waaay too many times. Also, there were a couple of holes in the plot line and timing that were hard to overlook.

3.5 Stars. It was a good story. There were a few too many coincidences. Suspense is not this author’s forte, but it was a good effort. It was a good escape.

A sweet, predictable romance with a bit of suspense. Not my usual genre but a quick enjoyable read between darker psychological thrillers.

A romantic suspense that is a touch different from the norm.

I love RaeAnne Thayne's writing and enjoyed the suspense in this story more than I expected. The twists and introspection of the 2 main characters kept me engrossed. Despite eye trouble and a wicked headache, I had to keep reading. Nice story with lots of twists to keep the suspense alive. Loved the ending.

Jane Doe and Mason

Mason finding a woman laying in a road in the mountains is not a good day. When she can't remember who she is or anything about herself makes his day worse.
Taking her in until the authorities can find out who she is makes Mason wish he had never found her. Especially when her British accent and sexy voice makes feelings he hadn't noticed in years come out.
An intriguing story that involves terrorism, mystery and fun characters. I love RaeAnne That he's books and this one did not disappoint.
