Dragon Mage #2

Magic Awakens

Rate this book

After surviving a dragon attack and clearing my name of murder, I hoped things would settle down. But I should have known that as soon as my dragon-blood heritage was exposed, nothing would ever be the same.

The Mage Order wants my help to find some missing mages. I want to tell them to go pound sand, but my friend has been kidnapped and I have no choice but to work with the people I’ve spent the last few years avoiding.

And as for the sexy dragon-shifter, James? Of course, he gets sucked into an ancient feud and needs my help. Right after I owe him a debt. Figures.

In order to save both James and the missing mages, I’m going to have to do things I don’t want to do and I’m going to be putting the lives of my friends at risk. But as I get deeper into the mystery of the missing mages and dragon-in-distress, I start to learn that if I don’t find them, it’s not just me and my friends at risk. It’s bigger than that. If the kidnappers win, it’s going to get apocalyptic.

This book in my opinion was worst than the first, since the motivation for the characters to do what they did wasn't good enough to move a plot.

There are some disappearances of mages/half dragons such as Morgan so The Order of the Mages or whatever asks her to help them find them. They are in no way related to her and they don't tell her how she could better at finding them than th order. They just say "maybe because you are also half Dragon you could find them" which is a little stretch.
She initially says no but then an Oracle tells her "friend" James Is also kidnapped and she must employ the fae that killed her friend Jimmy in the first book to save him. (it's is revealed he didn't kill him and it was his evil twin- which let me tell you was such a cringy twist) There are many things wrong with this since she met James for like 2days and made her reveal her secrets and memories, and only helped her escape the hunters that were chasing her and find friends of him that ended up not helping to anything in the first book. There's also The fact that she gets obsessed over the fact that she needs Tavas help and even saves him from a weird fae trial when they don't even know if he's gonna help. He does help but his motivation are really weak as well because he says he likes James a little bit.

Morgan, Tavas, Alec, Dima and another mage go and find the mines were the kidnapped are but in the way they end up fighting a giant spider, going to a place called nowhere where a weird witch is located, transport into Connecticut, save Tavas, transport to the mines and end up kidnapped.

Apparently the kidnappers want to wake up a Dragon queen, and to do it they need Dragon blood, so the use Morgan, James and others. They wake her up and she escapes. The leader of the order of mages ends up being bad and employing and old abuser of Morgan.

The adventures were fun, but in the end Morgan and James end up kissing and sacrificing to save each other lifes and like I said, there's hasn't been any romantic development for one to feel they are a couple or even ship them.

something cool that I liked was that Morgan was a badass and mostly she was saving everyone. She could've done everything by herself really. The side characters were there to have fun because they were useless.

Hey !

Spectacular story. Morgan is magnificent. MacKenzie is a breath of fresh air. Tava, what can I say, he's Fae. All-in-all the characters are fabulous. The story is tense at times. Action abounds. Romance buds. I wonder what the next story holds.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and voluntarily posted an honest review.

wow, not only a good read, but an adventure. Morgan, Dima, Tavis and Alec is racing against time to stop the rising of the dragon queen and finding James. This ragtag bunch has their hands full, having to battle their way to the truth and overcoming enemies. Its a fun read, with characters you want to cheer for and help them battle the evil that they face.

Good Series

Before you start reading this book, take a deep breath. You'll need it as you're racing thru Ms Chick's prose.
An excellent continuation to her first book in this series.
I gave it only four stars because of a couple of mistakes involving homophones [look it up ;-) ]

Story line ok but it jumps around a lot!

I will be honest and say that I did not look at the age group this series is written for, but the author jumps from one situation to another (on one road trip) which is so juvenile it made no sense! I skimmed the last half of the book just to finish it. No book three or four for me! But then I am way past 12 years old too!

Magic Awakens continues the saga of Morgan learning more about her dragon mage heritage and her search for James. I was very interested to see where this storyline would go and I was happy to see Ms. Chick delve more into the character of Morgan's mother and her family’s past with the Mage Order.

The pace of the book seemed noticeably slower than that of first book, with most of the action happening about two thirds of the way in; but then the flow was good with interesting surprises intermixed with the drama. One new character I thought was a great introduction to the story was McKenzie. Her part in the Order and how she matured as the plot unfolded was believable and relatable. I am looking forward to seeing how her new role affects the next book. I am also interested to see just how evil the Dragon Queen is or if there is more to her than meets the eye. Overall, good sequel to Magic Born.
In full disclosure, I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review

In this second book in this series, Morgan goes on a quest to save James and the dragon mages. However, she and her friends who are with her continually get side tracked. Lots of twists and turns lead them into danger but with Morgan’s ingenuity they were able to overcome the difficulties. Ultimately, they reach the place where James is held but get caught and become part of the sacrifice ritual to resurrect the dragon queen. Through it all, Morgan finds her magic becoming stronger and she is more confident about remembering the spells she learned in school. I enjoyed reading about all the sidetracks and how Morgan was able to take control leading everyone out of their difficulties. The surprise ending was very satisfying. I would highly recommend this book to all young adults and older. Very enjoyable.
