I think this is the best devotional I’ve seen, and the only one I’ve truly wanted to keep reading! It pushes me to deepen my relationship with God in both big and small ways—really, in every way. I have begun praying much more frequently, reading through the Bible, and attending church more. I’m more motivated to help others, too, and seek out volunteer opportunities and give of my financial resources. It was just the push I needed to get moving and deepen my relationship with Jesus. Would highly recommend!
Gorgeous! I received my copy of this devotional in the mail today and already I am through several devotions. This is one of those most serene devotionals I have ever seen. It is packed with amazing devotions that get to the heart of God. Lysa doesn't waste time in getting straight to the heart of the matter and I love that. This is a perfect gift for your friends. I already went to Amazon to buy a couple copies because I LOVED Embraced that much! The cover of this book is a hard, linen cover with a light egg watercolor blue and stained page edges. It has a beautiful ribbon marker and the interior is just gorgeous. This is truly a treasure and a gift for people those who you love. Lysa uses experiences from her own life to teach, which is something I appreciate. I enjoy that each devotional stirs my spirit and ends with a prayer. It compliments my daily quiet time with the Lord well. I really enjoy this devotional and give it 5/5 stars. A favorable review was not required for this complimentary copy.
While I didn’t really have theological problems with this book, I found it to be mostly a bunch of fluff without much substance. I was really put off by her attempts at sweetness that came across instead as saccharine overfamiliarity, such as repeatedly referring to the reader as “sweet sister.” I wouldn’t strongly discourage anyone from reading it, but I would highly recommend somebody like Elizabeth Elliot or Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth or Amy Carmichael over this author.
This was such a great devotional book to read daily at the start of my mornings! It was very well-written and full of encouragements and life lessons. I highly recommend it to any women or girls looking for a truth-filled devotional to help them in their spiritual lives!
Many of these devotions i read on a day I needed them. God’s timing. Lysa Teurkerust’s writing has a way of meeting the average person. God has truly given her a gift.
Let me preface this with a couple of disclaimers: first, that I struggle with devotionals, because I don't do trite, and in order to have short daily thoughts, that is often what authors resort to; second, that I have a very unique background and worldview that makes a lot of women's Christian living works hard to get through; and third, I really, really can't stand "Christianese" like "doing life together," "Jesus girl," "come alongside of," "check your heart," or "God thing."
The author makes some decent points with nothing in the way of glaring theological error. If you're using this very pretty book as a supplement to actually reading your Bible, and if you're the kind of white-capri-wearing, hand-raising, hallelujah-praise-Jesus, soccer-mom, vaguely Southern-Baptist woman this is aimed at, I'm confident you'll get a lot out of it.
I was just too busy grinding my teeth at being called "sweet sister" by a total stranger for the hundredth time to really get the takeaway.
I LOVED this devotional book. It felt like a love letter from a friend. Such loving and practical reminders and applications for life. Definitely going to purchase more of Lysa’s books!
It would be 5 stars, but she definitely combined stuff from books and devotionals she had already written for some of the devotions. I knew when I was reading something I had read before. It was awesome stuff and good to be reminded again, but I would have appreciated all new content.
I recommend this as a chill devotion for a easy way to get into the word. Either before you start your quiet time in the morning or before you go to bed. It wasn’t deep but biblically sound.
I chose this book because I like to choose a "word of the year" and this year I chose "Embrace" so this seemed perfect. It has many good devotionals, but if you've read her stuff before a lot of it was repetitive and not new to me. Some of her stuff was overly sweet (I really don't relate to calling myself a Jesus Girl, that's just not my style) but some of it was raw and real and made me think. I did enjoy it, and I do feel like it helped me grow, I just didn't love it like I thought I would. Probably more like 3.5-3.7 stars.
Featuring 100 devotions for women, Lysa TerKeurst's Embraced is a beautiful journey learning to walk with God, to turn to God, despite what the devil tries to do with our flaws. Even though not every day's devotion spoke to me personally, there was always something to take away from it. I made endless highlights and I really enjoyed what it added to my daily quiet time. Would recommend.
This devotional changed my life. God really used it in my life. I loved it so much that I passed a copy on to three other people. So grateful for this author and her honest vulnerability that she allows God to use to help so many countless other people.
One of the most thought-provoking devotionals I have ever read. Each one it seemed left me with a verse and thought so relatable to different situations in my life, past or current. This author's openness, gift of insight, and application was a special blessing in my heart and life in 2020!
I love the way Lysa writes it is so honest and makes me feel like I’m talking to a friend. It took me much longer than 100 days to complete this devotional but I would highly recommend it for any woman, mother etc.

My Review:
This author is one of my favorites. she feels like my very best friend. She can come down on your level and cry it through with you. I just love her to pieces! Embraced: 100 Devotions to Know God is Holding You Close was for me a long awaited devotion. The author uses things she has learned to take us on a whole other level of intimacy with God.
Just enough devotions to get you through several days or several weeks depending on how you choose to go about it. Each one better than the previous. So many things hit home with my personal life. Like trusting God with our lives. It is a very hard concept to do. I think our main worry is we wont be happy with what God chooses for us. It is daunting especially if you are trying to stay in Gods will.
This devo is a real good one and one I will keep at my bedside for awhile.
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I got this devotion book as a gift and I honestly thought it was going to be cheesy... Mostly because my mom loves Lysa TerKeurst and I judged the book by it's christian-book-cover. BUT-- this devotional book consistently moves me and I find myself reading ahead each day. Lysa is no stranger to pain, confusion, or trauma. She is raw and unafraid.
I have found myself crying/tearing up multiple times this year while reading these before work-- even though it's only 3 pages of pieces of wisdom I thought I already knew, Lysa writes with convicting honesty and leaves you with a sweet prayer. Many times, the devotional was eerily relevant to what my heart needed to hear for the day. You'll begin to feel that she is your mom, writing you letters from afar.
Now, I'm thoroughly humbled by my initial prideful assumption that I wouldn't get anything from this "classic Christian devotional." You just never know what God can use. . . I definitely recommend this for those who are looking for a quick morning devotional to add to their heavier biblically-based books!
Lysa Terkurst's devotional arrived at an oppprtune time. It was around a time when i started seeing a decline in my mental health for no external reason. I had a job i loved, my poetry book was doing well, and i began to make real friends after joining a bowling league. About 4 weeks later i would be couch bound, unable to go anywhere or do anything, and wonder what had happened to me only to find out 8 weeks later that i had become sick with mold toxicity. Yet, Terkurst's devotional reads with such realness it's better than anything written by Joyce Meyer and the devotion entries prompt a healthy curiosity within the reader to further study the Bible.
Just like Jesus himself, these devotions seek to love without fully understanding the person reading them and they help the reader feel confident in their faith to live boldly and proudly before God.
Even though, I've finished initially reading the book Terkurst's authenticity and honesty make this devotional one i will re-read for years to come.
Lysa TerKeurst gives wise, real, practical, biblical, and convicting devotions each day. Her honesty about her own struggles and faith journey is inspiring. I gained so much from reading this and will probably start it over again one day. Highly recommend!
One of my two favorite devotionals I read in 2022, this beautiful book filled with love from God and from the wisdom of the author, is a heart-warming, encouraging devotional. When you finish, there's an end section with personalized scriptures that is wonderful.
