Cloverfield Collection: Werewolves Jez & Cole By L. C Miller
I usually love just about anything supernatural. Give me werewolves, witches, and romance any day, and I'll take it. However, I have to admit that I found this book a bit difficult to get through. I usually don't check other reviews, but in this case, I did and found that many readers felt as I did regarding the plot and storyline. I can usually follow a book through typos and grammatical errors. I can follow it if it gets dark, or gory, or weird at times. But this whole story, I felt like pieces were missing. Information I was looking for that I wasn't given until it was too late. I'm all for starting your story in an intriguing way, but to enjoy this, I really needed a better base. I am the kind of reader who enjoys picking up clues and puzzling the story out for myself long before getting to the end of the book. I couldn't do that in this particular case, so I didn't connect with this story. I would highly recommend if you like werewolf books and are interested in this one to read other reviews. Some people really enjoyed this book and others didn't, and make your own decision.
First off, I want to say I did enjoy this book. The storyline was good. I liked the dynamic of Jez and Cole. I also liked the idea of there being a group where anyone could come together and not be a pack necessarily, but teammates. It's something our society needs to look into.
Now to the reason for the lower rating. It was very confusing at times. It jumped quickly from one piece of the story to the next. For example, how Jez ended up at the Clover fields and what happened while she was there. Or other details of the story. Then one of my confusions was brought on by Jez's relationship with Gia. I swear I read somewhere that she had just met her when she was taken in by the Clover fields but at the end of the book, she was saying she had known Gia since she was 11?
Also there are several grammatical errors and misuses of words throughout the book. There were times I had to reread over a sentence or a passage two or three times before understanding what the author was trying to say.
Overall for an Indie author, this is a good book. A few tweaks and proofreading would make it even better but as it stands, it's an easy read. I will definitely check out more of L.C. Miller's books.
This is my first review on Goodreads so I don't if it's good or not ^_^'
Quick Overview
I enjoyed the book quite a bit. It had a great concept, the story was good and I quite liked some of the characters. I haven't read a book like this before. It was a good book despite some errors.
Reason For 3 Stars
I was debating between a 3 and 4 star. The reason I chose to go with a three star was that sometimes I was confused as to what was going on. Like the time Jez spent with the Cloverfields. Or who the traitor was - this really confused me as it was not mentioned who the actual traitor is. Other times the pace was a bit too fast in my opinion. Like a chapter would be from Jez's POV then Cole's POV but on completely other days. BUT it was nice to see the chapters have the month in it - it would be nice to have days written in them too.
Aside from some grammatical errors and some proofreading, this can become a really good book. I will recommend this to people.
Free Kindle e-book in exchange for an honest review as part of the Indie June author month.
I found the whole thing to be very befuddling and full of plot holes. I usually don't read the reviews before posting mine, but I did now and realized I am not the only one. I tend to prefer stories with Werewolves rather than Vampires. But this book just left me very bewildered.
Why wouldn't Jez tell her family that she is alive for SIX MONTHS? She could've sent word, even if the fact she's alive had to be kept secret her family would have kept it. And why were they all completely normal when she came back? And when SHE started the subject they were all surprised.
We never really get why her mother did things she did. Did she have a traumatic experience with werewolves? Why would she be so insistent they exist with no proof and why would she be trying to kill them when her kids are ones?
Why is Cole so insistent he is unworthy of Jez and her whole family? What would make him feel this way?
We finally get throughout half the book that female werewolves are rare. Even though Cloverfield treats them as completely normal so that makes one more confusing aspect of this whole book. No one seems to be hiding the fact they are werewolves but are still surprised to find out that Jez has known about them all along.
I give this book 2 out of 5 stars because of the aforementioned complaints. I think the idea and the plot were solid. I like that Cloverfield is not a regular pack but full of all kinds of supernaturals. I don't know why they were mentioned in the excerpt because demigods and gargoyles were only briefly mentioned. I believe this book needed a good editor before being released.
In the STP female werewolves are practically nonexistent. There's only one, everyone believes that women don't inherit the gene. Which is why Jez is sent away with her mother while her brother stays with his father in the pack. Jez's life becomes one of pain and anger as her mother and stepfather abuse her trying to get information on the pack and threaten to kill the rest of her family if she says anything. Jez finally escapes with the help of the Cloverfields, after turning herself when her stepfather almost kills her. Jez moves back with her father and brother, hiding her true nature from them as well as her bonded who just so happens to be her brother's best friend. We enter into forbidden love, as the giant mystery of why her mother is trying to get information and torture Jez unfolds.
This book was a super fun read. I enjoyed watching Jez and Cole's romance play out even if I wanted to kick Cole's butt 80% of the time and tell him to get it together and just be with her.
Carrie is a manipulative abusive monster, so a little bit of a trigger warning there. It's not too descriptive/bad but it could potentially be triggering.
So if you like werewolves, romance, soulmates; and mystery consider reading this one.
I really enjoyed this book - it was a little confusing at the start but that just added to the action by the end! Honestly my favourite character was the side characters Gia - I absolutely loved her. I think it's because she wasn't constantly being babied in the book. At times I felt like everyone coddled Jez - I can understand why but I still found it annoying. I also thought the love story between Jez and Cole was a little rushed at the start. It was like the author just wanted to go through the motions to get them together! Once they were together I really enjoyed the book and I definitely loved all the side characters!!! I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a fast paced, fantasy book!!!
I really enjoyed this book! I was a bit skeptical going into it because I'm not a twilight fan at all and was worried that this book was going to be a lot like it. I was very happy to find that it was it's own kind of werewolf book and I enjoyed it far more than I did twilight. It's a great book for young adult readers and only had a few swear words. There was romance but nothing that I would define as spice. The story was interesting and had me staying up too late to finish it!
Storygraph has this as "challenging" "emotional" and "dark" and I would disagree. While there are some trigger warnings of child abuse, it wasn't super detailed except for a page or two and it was pertinent to the storyline.
It was a good story with good character. I don't particularly enjoy the continuous change of perspective, but it works and at least it was only Jez and Cole. I enjoyed it and it's definitely my kind of book... but... I definitely do feel as though the story could have gone a bit deeper into the Cloverfield. I feel like the story should have been about the Cloverfield and that we should have already known those characters. I just felr like i was missing something the entire book. Maybe this book is or should be more of a side story or a prequel instead of the main story. I honestly have mixed feelings about it.
I really enjoyed the story although I am a little confused. That may be because i missed the explanation but I don't remember who the traitor was or why Jez was thought by the ine pack to be a traitor or if they didn't think her a traitor why they wanted her dead. I got the fight. I figured out that everyone is safe but I missed the who and why of the traitor part. I love the characters though and the rest of the story was good and made sense. I just missed something and I am not sure if I read it too fast or if it was a detail that wasn't presented clearly.
The idea of a community where all kinds of people and beings could come together as teammate was brilliant. It was wonderful to see strong female characters as the fierce protectors of this story. I especially loved how fiercely protective Jez was of her friends, family and bonded. The love story between Jez and Cole was heart warming, comical and cute. This book was a fast paced book and I highly recommend this if this is your type of read.
I really like this book it took a different twist about pack dynamic with in the shape shifter world. Had different plot twist that I hadn't been expecting. Full of secrets and the need for trust family and love.
I loved this book and the world in it. It was so unique, it wasn't like any other book I've read. I can't help but hope there will be more novels to come. I'm looking forward to more centered in this world and checking out more of L.C. Miller's work
Had me from the beginning all the twists and plots were great. Nice strong female characters and protective of her family and friends. I love that you get to read Jez and Cole point of views. Fast pace and short chapters. Great read, highly recommended you read
Jez and Cole are so heart warming. I love the tension between the two and how protective Jez is of her family. This was a great read and I loved how the females though rare are the fighters and protectors.
I loved this book and the world in it. It was so unique, it wasn't like any other book I've read. I can't help but hope there will be more novels to come. I'm looking forward to more centered in this world and checking out more of L.C. Miller's work.
This was crazy. The action was very good. The bond is beautiful. All the love stories were adorable but Jez and Cole were my favorite. I love how loving her Dad and brother are. The twist at the end was fantastic. I never would have thought of something like that. I really enjoyed this.
This is not your usual shifter romance book. This one is more of a warrior woman, I let you know how I feel book. Jez fights for what’s right and keeps her family safe.
I really enjoyed this book, the various plots worked well together to culminate in one story. I sincerely hope there's more stories with these characters in the future.
Loved the characters and relationships but the story was kind of had to follow sometimes. I did however really like the plot twists and turns super fun!
Got this as part of the Indie Author take over event on Tiktok and just know was able to read this amazing story. Jez's trials and her relationship to Cole was a short and sweet romance between two teenage werewolves. There was action, adventure and enough funny dialoged to make this a very enjoyable read.
