When Ella Leary crashes the birthday party of publishing mogul Levi Northrup, she hopes to learn something sordid to use in her fight against him. She believes he’s stolen the magazine her father started and blames him for her father’s death. She never expects him to chase her down the street or be so vulnerable that she loses her edge and falls into bed with him. Levi is irate when he learns Ella’s true identity and gives her only a single issue of her precious magazine while he unravels his father’s final, very personal, business deal. Long-held secrets will force them to either part ways or work together in and out of the office.

After enjoying M.K. Chester’s Bryeton Books series, I was really looking forward to her contemporary work. This is a “take with a grain of salt” review. Enemies to lovers isn’t my favorite trope, I can and have enjoyed it, but generally not with the consistency of other themes. Additionally, the set-up for Ella and Levi meeting as well as the circumstances of their one-night-stand didn’t really work for me. While that’s really only the first two chapters, it’s the basis for large parts of the angst/conflict in the story.

Even though I didn’t love the story – I did read the entire book, I did like Levi and Ella separately, how they worked out their differences. The ending was sexy and sweet and I liked how Chester wrapped things up.

FWIW - I've enjoyed Chester's other books and adored book 2 in this series, 10 days.

Note: While part of a series, all the New South Romance books have no overlapping characters or events. These truly stand alone and can be read/listened to in any order.

This is book 1 in Chester's New South series. I'm not sure where this series is going to go from here because the book reads as a stand alone. I think the storyline is good but the narration was very poorly done. It came thru very robotic and stilted and made it difficult for me to keep up with the storyline and characters. Speaking of characters - our main characters are Ella and Levi. Both are broken by the past sins of their fathers and react in different ways. Both are head strong but find themselves in inta lust / love. Overall I think the book was good but the narration made it hard to appreciate.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

I loved the story but the narrator but it was hard to listen to the narrator. I love the plot and the characters. The story follows Levi and Ella. Two people who have more connections than either could have imagined. Both have recently lost their fathers. She sneaks into his birthday party to get dirt on him before an upcoming meeting with him. Things do not turn out as either anticipate that night or after that day. I don't want to give anything away but this story was very addictive with mystery, suspense, lies, tragedy, passion and love. Such a wonderful story!!!

I enjoyed this audiobook. Ella stayed strong and independent despite being left destitute by the death of her father learning he was financially ruined. Levi took over his father's company recently following his demise. Ella knew she must prove to Levi she offers her expertise to save her father's business. Levi did not know if Ella could be trusted. Brooke Gilbert brought these characters to life and narrated the book well.

She crashes his party to find out some sort on the man who stole her father business and caused his death. Soon things become more complicated when she ends up in bed with him. There are issues they need to work through but will they? See how it will all end up as

This was a good story with interesting characters. I liked her feistiness. The storyline was ok. I thought the fact that they moved very quickly into bed was a bit unbelievable. I thought his reaction to her secret was the perfect response. A good story.

After inheriting her father’s magazine after his death and finding out some not so favourable things about the sale of it just before his death, Ella takes it upon herself to crash Levi’s (who owns the publishing company that acquired her father’s magazine) bday party in order to gather information that might help her take him down. However, she did not foresee bonding with him on a deeper level and spending the night in his bed.

Obviously, after Levi finds this out, it does not go down well. This begins an enemies-to-lovers workplace romance between them.

This enemies-to-lovers story had so much sexual tension. I loved the characters, and most definitely loved their chemistry. Overall, the storyline was well developed, the pacing was solid, and the book kept me hooked all the way throughout!
