Excerpt from Various Derived Tables, One Life: American Experience Tables of Mortality
Great care has been taken in the computations and checking. The logarithms for the 393% values were derived from commutation columns, published by Mr. W. S. Smith, actuary of the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company. These columns were computed to twenty places of decimals and are much more accurate than the columns in common use. The logarithms of DX were taken to ten places and cut down to seven places.
A check was had upon the logarithms of n u x and of n a x by adding Log.
