Rate this book
A paranoid father. A mysterious boy. A secret that might burn them all. Evie longs for a normal life. Her father’s paranoia makes that impossible; fleeing from state to state on the smallest whim. When a mysterious boy at her most recent school takes an interest in her, she longs for some kind of human connection. Even if it needs to remain a secret. Can Evie discover her true self when everyone she cares about is hiding a deadly truth? Aspects of this book were previously published as part of Through the Fire by Michelle Irwin.

This was actually a really good start. It pulled me in and I was left wanting more when I finished. You start off thinking that Evie's father may have done something wrong and is running from people but as the story goes on you finally gets the answers and it sets you up for the next book.

This book now introduces us to Evie Jacobs in her high school years, where the blooms of love start to bloom. Fleur Smith takes us back to where the Evie & Clay story began. The eloquent writing of this author makes the story flow, meandering over highs and lows in a young girl's live.

Evie has never been able to have friends. Each time she tries, her father’s paranoia sends them fleeing to another state.

When a mysterious boy at her most recent school takes an interest in her, she longs for some kind of human connection.

Even if it needs to remain a secret.

Can Evie discover her true self when everyone she cares about is hiding a deadly truth?

A nice addition to the Daughter of Fire series! I enjoyed finding out more about how it all began with Evie and Clay, having already read the series.

Under the Magnolia was a quick and fast-paced read which I couldn't put down.

So this is the first book I have had the pleasure of reading from Fleur Smith/Michelle Irwin. Wow is all I can say, I was most definitely NOT disappointed. I really enjoyed getting to know Evie and Jacob and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Under the Magnolia is a Novella to the Daughter of Fire Series, its where Evie Meyers finds out the truth to what she really is and why her father has always been so paranoid. Evie has had to pack up her life once again to move to a new place where she meets Clay Jacobs a young boy from her new school, who start to build a relationship. But after one kiss things go horrible that has Evie questioning everything her father has told her.

The beginning

This explains a lot about where book one starts off and about how Vie met and interacted with Clay and Louise.
