It was small, slim, about the length of her hand; the leather cover was soft, the sewn-in binding was crisp, and the thick vellum pages were empty. 'Tom Marvolo Riddle' was printed in ancient, flaking gold leaf across the front.

He had been a Slytherin, a prefect, and head boy in 1944.

She had checked.

3.5 stars. I obsess over this author's writing: so evocative and effortlessly poetic. It has me tranfixed.

I also harbor a great deal of resentment towards her because she's adamant about writing short fics and I have no means to bully her into writing lengthy and wordy Tomione stories at my every whim. I'm very resentful of this outrageously annoying impotence of mine when it comes to influencing random internet people who also happen to be writing things that I wind up enjoying xx

He halts in front of her chair, tapping his fingers against the tabletop, tracing the whorls and lines and splinters ingrained in the depths of the wood; and she realizes, with a jolt, that he has been circling her throughout the course of their conversation, like a hawk does its prey—waiting, bloodthirsty and impatient, to swoop in for the hunt and the catch and the kill.

As a matter of fact, I rarely vibe with anyone's writing at all. Almost never when it's bad per se, and there's a fifty percent chance that I won't be able to vibe with the good one, too. I'm easily distracted, and skimming pages has become sort of a sport.

This author weaves her tales in the manner that makes me fully absorbed and reveling in every word.

Most importantly, I always feel connected to her characters: I care about what happens next to them more than I care about what happens next to me.

This fic is very dynamic, mostly plot-driven and too short for the ample idea behind it, for what it tries to tell ... yet, wondrously, the story feels longer than it is, quite fleshed-out and accomplished. Seeing how many authors are incapable of putting that much plot into full-length novels, let alone making it seem fully-fledged, it's particularly impressive. Almost a fit.

The fanfic is better suited for those who like action and plot over romance, I suppose. The latter being a significant part, it's still found somewhere on the outskirts of the story's map.

I'm on a Tomione bandwagon and I can't decide whether I like this pairing better than Dramione or not. Nevertheless, Provocative Envy can definitely write a Tomione fanfic! *whew*

This one was too short, but if you want a full length Tomione, read this author's fic: Nightmare. You won't regret it.

Happy reading, Goodreads fiends.

I am stunned and unsettled in the best way possible. I don't know what it is about Tom Riddle that makes him so fascinating and riveting as a character, but this fic just exacerbated my unhealthy obsession. The story is in Hermione’s pov and explores what would've happened if she had found Riddle’s diary first.

This fic has such a realistic, chilling representation of the Tomione dynamic. The way their relationship developed felt insidious and I loved every detail. Tom’s characterisation was spot on. He felt dangerous but charming, ruthless but polite and so inexplicably attractive. I loved how the author portrayed his manipulativeness. The mind games between Hermione and Tom left me feeling so agitated but excited at the same time. I loved how the repercussions of their relationship on Hermione's mental health and on the outcome of the war were portrayed.

The writing style was phenomenal. It was so polished, descriptive and engaging. The prose and imagery used were absolutely stunning. The author is masterful at weaving an intricate, cohesive narrative that brings in elements of the canon in a compelling manner. I loved how the author discussed themes of war and how it is set into motion, and how power is obtained through propounding prejudice.

Overall, this book was so disconcerting, it made me feel more and more unsettled as I read on. I felt unsafe, I felt scared, and I felt utterly and completely enraptured. It was chaotic and unhinged in the best way. I highly recommend it and I can't wait to read more from this author.

A Hermione Granger/Tom Riddle fanfiction

Because there was loathing, and there was love, and she wanted neither—she had neither.

Tom was always going to be something in between: a riddle, a threat, a constant.

She would not let him go.

This was a fun original (to me) fanfic. While I generally wouldn't like reading about this sort of relationship, it works well between these characters.
