"Protest will become much more costly, and simultaneously more urgent"
A pamphlet compiled in 2011 on the Occupy movement from a veteran civil rights activist. Short, a little bit disjointed, but it is useful to look to the (even recent) past to understand our current moment.
lovely reminder that movements are sustained by communities of people willing to help meet each other's needs... i particularly like the "ten commandments" chapter :)
Might be a little dated since everything in it was written sometime after Occupy Wall Street and the very early days of President Obama’s first administration, but as a time capsule into the feelings of the time, it captures this era in politics quite well.
A short collection of essays about world events, meaningful at the time but maybe hard to appreciate after they have (unfortunately) faded from memory.
mike davis has a way with words and even though many of these essays were reprinted it was great to read them all in one place. this is a useful and cheap entrance into a lot of current debates - not simply OWS and the way forward but also the role of the democrats and obama in curent politics. i recommend reading this. it's cheap and you will absolutely enjoy it and get some ideas from it.
