Paranoid Inventor and draconian expert Sam isn't anything special... and that's all he wants anyone who may be watching to think about him. Sam is a conspiracy theorist who lives on the fringes, preferring to keep a low profile while he does what he knows best—study the ancient draconian culture that he knows isn't a fairytale. Aided by his intuitive ability to create gadgets and harness sound waves, Sam changes identities and addresses as often as he changes his clothes... all in a life-long quest to evade The Man. When he accidentally wakes a "sleeping" dragon who insists that they are mates, Sam's carefully structured world shifts sideways.
Blaze is a dragon warrior—an alpha guardian assigned to protect the Crown Prince of Novis. When he and his men at arms are sent into stasis after a battle for their lives, the last thing he expects after being awakened is to find himself thousands and thousands of years in the future. Not only is he now in a modern world where his kingdom no longer exists, but the people here believe dragons are nothing more than mythological creatures. The sound of his true mate's heartsong coming from the adorably awkward omega who freed him from stasis gives the alpha all the reason he needs to quickly acclimate to the changes the fates have thrown his way. But first, he needs to make Sam see reason and admit that not only is he an omega, but also Blaze's mate.
Is Sam truly paranoid if someone is watching them? Settle in and let our dragons sweep you off your feet… and into a world filled with adventure!
Alpha Ablaze is the second book in the Waking the Dragons series and features literally rock-hard hunks, a group of dragon hunters who shouldn't be discounted, something called a 'Corny,' and an HEA just as legendary as the dragons in it. This 52k book contains mpreg and is 18+ only… did you really expect anything less from Susi Hawke and Piper Scott?
I'm a total fan of M/PREG Paranormal Romances, first and foremost as a reader. I'm excited to share my own omegaverse(s) with you. What's not to love about adorable Omegas and the Alpha men who love them? If I'm not writing about men sporting baby bumps, I'm definitely reading about them!
I'm a native of Las Vegas, NV, so I'm pre-wired to love everything weird ~ although I don't find any kind of love to be weird. I'm a cis woman who's been happily married to the same lovable lug for 18 years. We have a 16yr old son, well, at least I think we do? Either that, or we have a ghost that eats all our food and uses up all wifi playing xbox while screaming into a headset.
As a new author, it's been amazing to find the amount of support that I've been given from readers and my fellow authors. Feel free to message me, I love to chat with fellow readers. Am I a reader? Heck yeah! In fact, I'm never certain that I can completely trust an author who isn't a fellow bibliophile.
I will try to update here when I'm doing promotional parties & chats. I usually do those on Facebook. If you haven't already signed up for my newsletter, you should totally do it! I only send out NL's to announce new releases or important announcements. I also like to note in my NL what I'm currently reading along with a cover shot and the link for anyone who is interested.
Honestly, I lost interest and I’m not finna force myself to finish reading a book when I could be reading something I enjoy. I liked the first book and this is just a repeat of the first but a lot more boring. It’s a no for me on the rest of the series 🤷🏽♀️
I LOVE this series! It's just fun, sexy, exciting, quick-paced action and conflict, and I just love these characters.
I'm so glad that the other dragons have woken up - reading about them getting used to the modern world was fun! Sam certainly is a quirky, very paranoid character, and I loved getting his story here. He and Blaze had great chemistry together, and I love this whole concept of the heart song between mates, it's just sweet. <3
Can't wait for the next one - starting it tonight!
5+ Stars for both Book and Audio (If I could give more stars I would)
This Audio book was AWESOME!!!!
Fantastic book written by two awesome authors, and they turned it into an amazing audio book by picking the best narrator for this story.
Colin Darcy absolutely 100% Nailed this narration. He totally and completely made Sam and Blaze come to life. His narration of Sam's character matched his personality so freaking well. I loved every minute of this book and Colin is now one of my new favorite narrators. I was completely blown away by how much effort he very obviously put into making sure Sams voice was spot-on the entire time from beginning to end. You could just hear all the reluctance and paranoia and awkwardness of Sam in Colin's voice. It was Awesome!! I also really enjoyed his voices for all the other characters as well, he did great with all the gruffer and deeper dragons voices, and all of their friends and family and people they met along the way. Great narration added to this fun book.
Starting with Blaze's opening lines in this book I was completely entranced with these men. I mean really, how could you not be!?!
I loved Sam from the first few glimpses we saw of him in book one. So I was super excited to see him get his own book. Sam is so much fun, and he doesn't even know or realize it. He is a little nerdy with all of his gadgets he tinkers with, and awkward with his communication and social skills, adorable with how shy he can be when he doesn't know how to express himself properly, and totally amusing when he talks about "the man" watching and coming after them. Blaze offsets his brand of crazy perfectly. The banter we get between the two is hilarious, there were a few parts I really couldn't stop myself from openly laughing out loud.
Besides these characters and my obvious love for them, the story was really well written and had a great pace that was easy to follow along, especially if you already read and/or listened to book one. I liked that we got to see more of the characters Emery and Cory from book one and that we are learning more about all of the Dragons and their pasts as we get further into these books. And meeting someone from Sam's past was an interesting twist and turn that I was not expecting but cannot wait to see how that turns out. These authors know just how to incorporate the characters and their stories in order to lead us into the next books in the series.
I did not want this book to end at all. I really need more of Sam and Blaze and I hope *fingers crossed* that we get to see more of them in future books.
Adorably grumpily omegas and sexy devotes dragons! Buckle up for paranoia and caving-in in the best ways! This draconian family keeps growing and growing, and it just gets more and more amazing!
I think I’m in the same boat with this one as I was with Alpha Awakened. I didn’t necessarily like it but still feel this need to keep going so I can see them all get their mates.
After reading the first book I was hoping this one would improve the patchy plot and character development but, unfortunately, it just failed to capture me. I would say my biggest issues are world believability and characters consistency. I talked about this when I reviewed the first book, this is an Omegavers shifter MPREG story, boy that's a mouthful, and I was missing so many details to make the world logical. They say Omegas (men who are able to conceive from an Alpha) are rare, but they don't really explain how this fits into the rest of the het-normal population. And I could not understand how some people where really fine and seemed to think Mpreg was completely regular and other were bigoted, homophobic, cruel and violent towards them. I felt like the author relied too heavily on the genre cliche's and expected readers to just "go with the flow" because it's Mpreg-Shifter. I don't read many Mpreg books exactly because for this reason, this was very disappointing. The second issue was Sam, his character was really confusing in the first book and here he was just a jumble of cliche's and unbelivebility, I could not stand him. He is supposed to be a genius, tech wiz conspiracy theorist but it seemed like these were just facts added onto him without anything to indicate he really is one. All the technology he uses is just conveniently there, he is both doubtful and incredibly stupid at times- for a guy who is so meticulous and paranoid I would expect him to figure things out sooner or not brush them off so easily when all evidence points to the contrary. All the things that happen in this story are such a twisted mess of illogical details and factless plot lines, I was just annoyed with the story 95% of the time. Sorry to say I did not like this at all !
**The Narration** Colin Darcy seems to be a fairly decent narrator but he chose the most annoying, silly voice for Sam and a few other characters, and I could not stand his too long and awkward pauses for Sam's speaking voice even after I sped it up quite a bit!!!. Blaze was Ok-ish if a bit douchy and his did have some nicer voices for some of the other characters but 80% of the book IS about Sam and Blaze and it just grated on my nerves.
Enjoying the series so far I won this book from a competition from the authors and am giving a honest opinion. I was looking forward to this second book of the series with Blaze as the main character especially as he seemed a right character when he was introduced right at the end of the previous book. This is the story of blaze and of course Samuel an inventor that is trying to awaken the other Dragon warriors from their stasis by inventing a machine to produce there heartsong. I enjoyed their romance and of course the details of them establishing their home. The threat of hunters is still prevalent with the added worry that maybe one of there own has turned traitor. The writing of this duo is as always free flowing with a dialogue that keeps you absorbed. This book made me chuckle and I'm really enjoying these characters and their antics looking forward to the next.
Alpha Ablaze is the second book in the collab by Susi Hawke and Piper Scott.
Blaze and Sam are our Alpha and Omega couple. Sam has been through so much in his life that he feels "The Man" is out to get him and he doesn't know what to believe or do. But one thing he is slowly coming to terms with is Blaze is his mate and Alpha.
Blaze is a Dragon warrior who has the ability to see into your mind and know your innermost secrets, but Sam is a bit of a mystery. Blaze's abundance of patience will help his mate and heartsong through whatever problems they face.
This was a really good story and follow up to the first book. Oh my goodness paranoid Sam is very funny and Blaze was awesome. But this was good because you get an opportunity to get know a little bit about each of the guys. Sam started out alone and now he has a large family still paranoid but happy. Looking forward to the next book!
While I liked book 1, this one had me rolling. Blaze and Sam were great together, their banter off the wall, and acclimating ancient dragons to modern culture led to some very humorous moments.
KU, paranormal, book in a series, age gap, mpreg, mystery, dragon shifters, babies!
Sam was super skittish and sketchy in book 1, to the point where I even wondered at times if he was a bad guy in hiding. I was so glad to get to know the real Sam in this book. He was nervous and paranoid, but we learn that there is much more to the story and to Sam's background. Blaze was funny and a great complement to Sam. I liked them together, and I am really enjoying the building story of the 4 dragon warriors who are no unfrozen. Super curious about their mentor. I loved meeting his brother, and the end had me excited to see what is coming next for Sana. 3.5 stars overall.

I surprisingly did like this story a lot more. I am a huge fan of the enemies to lovers trope so, when I was reading and Blaze & Sam's relationship, I was hooked! Again, the omega/Dragon verse is new to me but, it was still a good read anyway
Loved the start when the dragons adjust to the present world! Rest of the story was OK... I was expecting Sam & Blaze story to be awesome... But enjoyed the Sam's paranoia! ;)
It did not help that I didn't like the main character from the first book already, his paranoia edging on conspiracy theory nut being barely tolerable. "The Man" is not coming to get you, Sam <_<
It was good. I loved Blaze's humor and attitude. That first sentence of 'Guess whose back, bitches' really captures his overall tone. The omega Sam was a bit difficult get into. He was so high strung and wordy. But eventually he grew on me and I felt this book had more plot than the previous too. Also hot, knotty sex. Always a win.
I found that this book went quite a bit smoother than the first. It was a factor of many little things- not having to explain dragons, having more characters in play, more interesting backstory- that all added up to a more engaging story.
From the last book it turns out that the dragon expert, Sam, is actually an omega himself, and the heartsong of Blaze. Sam is not overly likeable in the first book, admonishing Emery on everything from sex to children to security. Seeing Sam's point of view to it all it begins to make a bit more sense. When it comes to an actual explanation of his paranoia, there is a big event in his past that makes everything quite clear. However he had blocked that out of his memory and the journey through the book to learn that is fascinating. Blaze is by his side through it all and does an amazing job of both supporting Sam and pushing him last his comfort zone.
The only part that didn't really play was near the beginning. Sam was vehemently denying that Blaze was his mate when it all happened and had no interest in seeing what it meant. The second they are alone together he has no problem with it all of a sudden. This one eighty seems a bit much, though again his thoughts show he was protecting Blaze more than himself. It would have been nice to see that actually come around rather than jumping straight to bed. Major improvements to the story otherwise!
*3.75 Stars This book definitely wasn't as good as the first one in the series, but it was still enjoyable! For a while, I couldn't really tell what the overall plot was supposed to be for this one since it took a bit longer for it to really develop. Once the plot and the action did pick up, it was very similar to the first book where it was resolved within a couple of pages. The romance was really cute, I didn't really like how Sam was in denial about basically everything until the end of the book, though. I can understand being in denial about Blaze being his mate in the beginning, but he was in denial about being pregnant when he was literally SIX MONTHS PREGNANT. It's kind of hard to deny that type of thing when you're that far along! Also, when Sam and Blaze had sex for the first time, Blaze had told himself he wouldn't "claim" Sam as his mate while he was in heat because he knew he technically couldn't properly consent to that, which made me really proud since that's not a common concern in these types of books. But then when Sam claimed him in that same scene, Blaze was just like well since he did it I guess I should just go for it too. I was so disappointed, like no dude, he's still in heat!! He just did it in the heat (lol) of the moment! Overall, I still really liked this book and it was a quick and easy read (once I actually had the time to sit down and read it). The ending got me super hyped again for the next one so I'll probably be starting that very soon.

This is book 2 in the series and continues the story of the "frozen" dragons waking up after thousands of years to the world of today. Sam turns out to be the heartsong, or mate, of the dragon Blaze. Blaze is a fun-loving laidback guy most of the time, so he is the perfect match for the uptight and paranoid Sam. Sam has had a difficult life, and it is great to see Blaze smooth some of Sam's rough edges and love him whether he is grouchy or not. Several parts of this book are laugh out loud funny, and other parts hurt my heart. I am frustrated with the dragons, especially Cory, for being way too trusting of the one who is missing from their group. Overall, I found this to be very engrossing and entertaining. I think the performance of the narrator is good, though I am one of those who finds Sam's voice to be annoying. With the multiple characters inhabiting this world, I never felt confused about who was speaking, so I consider that a narration win. I'm excited about book three, which seems like it might be less humorous and possibly more painful. This series is great!
This is the second book in The Waking the Dragons Series. This is for the Audiobook Version. What a wonderful book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters fascinating. The characters were developed and thought out. Sam and Blaze are the MC’s of this book and mates. There was humor, dragons, family and friends, nicknames, mates, lessons in history and language, treasure and so much more in this book.
The narrator Colin Darcy did a good job narrating this book. His voice was a bit of a problem for me that is a personal preference issue. I am extremely picky with voices and they are subjective. Having said that he did a great job at having a separate voice for each character and was not monotone. These are the 2 most important things that a narrator can do, and he was good at this. I also think that he did a better narration than on the first book. Even though I had some issues with the book and the narrators voice. I did enjoy it and can’t wait for the next book to go audio. I can recommend this book as a good listen and read. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
I absolutely love this series. The dragons are awesome and the way this series is written is wonderful. The heartsong between the dragons is definitely a new way to describe a fated mate and I felt that it was well done. Blaze and Sam, oh what can you say about these two other than opposites definitely attract. Sam's quirky behavior is so cute that you just want to reach into the book and squeeze him and the way Blaze reacts to him is so very heart warming. Blaze is just, well Blaze is just himself but his love for Sam is powerful. Sometimes in a series you feel like you are reading the same story over and over but with a different set of MCs but this series didn't make me feel like that because the underlying story was carried from book to book. I hope these two authors co-write again because they do very well with their story telling.
Colin Darcy's narration is spot on, the voices are all very distinct throughout the series. In each book I knew exactly who was talking at all times because he carried the voices throughout the entire thing.
Sam is a dragon research expert and is called in by Emery's mom to help with the situation of the remaining sleeping dragons from book one. He honestly believes dragons are extinct but agrees to help. He is paranoid about the government and is a tech and security genius. He figures out how to build a gadget to mimic a heart song frequency and awakens the other three dragons. Only trouble is that one of the dragons, Blaze, really is his mate but Sam won't believe it. Blaze has a talent that allows him to read the memories of anyone he touches so he immediately knows all about the modern world and what has happened to the dragons. So begins his courting of Sam, danger from an extensive group of dragon hunters, growing family, buried memories and a lot of love and joy. We have a HFN because we still have more mates to find. A great series and I intend to read the rest.
This storyline kept me interested from start to finish. In fact, I want more! Of course, as I'm reading these as the whole series is already out, I get more after I finish this review. This tale takes on Sam, the dragon expert that was called for in the last book. What fun he is with his technology genius, germaphobia and constant reminder of 'The Man' who is watching all of them. And help meets his incredible match in this tale, the dragon with patience that never waivers, protection that is always there and a constancy that is a joy. The little family's universe expands with the revival of Cory's bodyguards and a few others who you'll discover as you proceed through the book. I believe these books should be read in order as this story depends on you knowing what happened in book 1, so now I'm on to reading book 3.
Was enjoyable but it felt weird to have Blaze's special talent be knowledge absorption so this gave the authors the ability to use modern speech and not have to explain so many new things to Blaze. Seemed like a cop out to me and I also kind of missed the antics from the first book when Cory had new clue about anything modern. They are pretty predictable and I don't know why every MM dragon shifter series follows the same formula. Couple one has a girl. Couple two has twins. Couple three is a twist because the dragon will actually be pregnant (what I'm guessing anyway). Maybe it's not always in this order but they are all very similar. I will still read the rest of this series because I do like them but I am taking a break before going onto book three and four.
The second book in the Waking the Dragons series does as the title suggests waking up the Dragons that are in stasis. Sam is featured in this book. His back story was very interesting. It really revealed why he was so paranoid. Why he harbored so many secrets.
Therefore it was ironic that the serious, suspicious, inventor extraordinaire Sam was gifted with a brash, swaggering, beefy Dragon Warrior as his Alpha. Blaze understood his reserved mate better than anyone. He helped break down Sam's defenses - well to a point anyway. He gave Sam the love, security, and family he always lacked.
This was a great addition to the series introducing new important characters and humor.
I liked this one slightly less than the first one. Sam was not a very likeable character from the start and I never really warmed up to him. Also, these Dragon boys are incredibly pushy, yet also sweet? Not sure how I feel about some of the stuff they do. All of them trying out "modern speech" was really awkward to read. The overarching threat in this series seems to be too easy so far, but time will tell. I called who the Big Bad was going to be in book one and it still hasn't been revealed yet. There were a lot of typos in here too. But Blaze was alright.
Love both books from Waking the Dragons. I hope there will be a follow-up sequel(s) to finish the story. I will eagerly wait for the rest of this story. I hope the wait won't be long. Alpha Awake and Alpha Ablaze were fun stories to read. I hope this is the beginning of at least a four or five book series. I highly recommend to all those paranormal mpeg romance readers, have enjoy.
Once I let go of the fact that supposedly these dragons are over 10,000 years old yet speak fairly modern English, were found in North America, and lived in kingdoms (though at one point it’s stated they were from the Middle Ages), I enjoyed the story. Sam is such a bundle of nerves and yet endearing. Blaze is playful and protective. They really complimented each other
