By day I design book covers for some of the biggest publishers in the UK . . . but once the sun sets I write paranormal romance and horror.

Revenge is Sweet –the sequel to Dance Until Dawn – was published as an eBook on 12 July 2016. I am very excited to bring you more of Will's and Ellie's story.

Find out what Ellie discovers in an upstairs room of Will's house. Something that makes her question the relationship with the man she loves. And who dares break Will's rules in an effort to expose his cherished and secret community to the humans?

I'm currently writing the third book in the series, which features a werewolf in love with a beautiful rock singer. How can he tell her his darkest secret?
And what could possibly go wrong?

Fact: I haven't been reading vampire novels or romances for about 6 years.
Another fact: This book might just have reminded me why I used to love such novels so much.

"Dance until dawn" starts off with Elinor (Ellie), a dancer, turned into a vampire by the vampire elder of London, Will, who has been besotted with her quite a while and refuses to let her die. So he turns her.

" I’d have given a kidney to live there. Of course I realised undead kidneys might not be too useful, when all is said and done, so there was another money-making option out of the window."

Ellie finds herself suddenly undead, thrust into a world she doesn't understand, full of intrigues and games of power. I found Berni's writing style clear, fresh, well detailed but at the same time very easy-to-read.

The characters were well characterized and everyone had her/his specific voice.
As you might have already understood, I liked Ellie and Will very much. They were good on their own but together they were even better. And oh, boy...the sass, the sass! More often than not I was laughing my arse off.

‘I understand that this is rather a lot to take in,’ he said. ‘But I would appreciate it if you would stop referring to me as either psychotic or perverted.’ ‘Well I’d appreciate not being kidnapped and shut in this filthy hole.’ ‘Touché.’

One thing I particularly liked was how each chapter included both Ellie's and Will's PoV. I really need to praise the author on how she skillfully managed to actually make the reader feel the difference of centuries between Ellie & Will, a woman of the 21st century and a man born in the 18th.
Talking about Will, I really loved how he respected Ellie and her choices in everything he did. I also appreciated how he wasn't perfect and how as powerful as he is, in the end, he still needs Ellie and her help.

Overall, I loved how Ellie's and Will's relationship was based on reciprocity and mutual respect and how Ellie doesn't immediately throw herself at Will (because he's oh-so-sexy). I always love it when a writer takes time to build a relationship*thumbs up*

"She is the only creature on this earth who is vindictive enough to instigate revenge two centuries on.’ ‘She needs to get a life.’ I muttered. ‘Or another death.’

I greatly appreciated how Berni Stevens didn't present the transformation into a vampire as easy-peasy. The fact that Ellie's actually struggles with her new situation, with the feeding etc. made the novel feel very "realistic".

"Dance until Dawn" reminded me of some of the best classic vampire; the sass just made everything better. In fact this book was lush, decadent but also ironic and funny...a perfect mix.

I throughly enjoyed reading this book and the author held my attention throughout the whole book, keeping me captivated in her plot and characters. In my opinion, this book is for a mature reader due to some sexual references and small trigger warnings, however, I felt that the writing style was more middlegrade and thus I rated the book three stars. I would pick up more books from the author as the are unique, enjoyable and i can get through them relatively quickly. I loved the plot and the speed at which the events unfolded with the book but the romance was not as well planned out or explained in my opinion. I often the feeling that the main female character was being surpressed in certain scenes which contradicted the charcter's persoanlity. I would have liked to have seen more character development within the book. To my delight the author's descriptions of the surroundings were amazing. The author was able to lift the words off the page and create a mental image in mind of what was occuring adding value to my reading experience. Also how the author entergrated new pieces of information was done smoothly and it never once felt like a piece of informative text was stuck in to clarify the movement of the plot.

I do like a paranormal read, especially one that has a romance woven into its pages, and this is exactly what you get with Berni Stevens’ Dancing Till Dawn.

Will’s the ultimate alpha vamp, from an era long forgotten by modern society, and Ellie’s an independent, feisty young woman, living her life by the rhythms of music and dance. Both are from two different worlds, until a terrible event flings Ellie into a life she neither believes nor fits in to.

From the moment Ellie opens her eyes and realises something is seriously amiss, Berni Stevens gives the story a dark gothic feel that really appealed to me. Initially tension comes in the form of Will and Ellie’s chemistry, before shifting to focus on some unwelcome visitors, and this moves the book on at a nice pace. The narrative mainly comes from Ellie but an insight to Will’s thoughts is granted through his scattered journal entries, which were an excellent touch.

It’s great read with romance and action in equal measures, and puts the subject of vampires firmly back into adult fiction.

Ellie wakes up in a creepy cellar and there is a creepy guy there, yes that is the beginning ;) Sort of.

What I liked here is that Ellie had a really hard time believing she was a vampire. I mean who would believe some crazy guy who locked you in the cellar. So that was well done and William did seem crazy. Even though I knew he really was a vampire and that he had saved her life.

But the book was a bit, I do not want to say slow going. It just takes 1/3 of the book for them to move on to other things. First she needs to believe, and not want to run away. So it's just them in that house for the most of it. But then more characters shows up and it even gets a bit suspenseful as...something happens. I will not say anything more.

English vampires are just so more civil, even when they kill someone.

A bit of a Gothic beginning turns romantic and suspenseful.

I really enjoyed this book! I was debating giving it three stars because of a few things that I felt it didn't really address towards the end but I decided I just enjoyed it too much for that.

I have to say that this is a one of a kind vampire book. Usually ya vamp books abandon traditional vampiric ideas and adopt modern views so that it seems more realistic but that was not the case here, and that's a good thing! We have the whole garlic, silver, wooden stake, daylight and holy items stuff that added a new spin to what I'm used to.

The romance in this book was very cute (if not a bit creepy occasionally) and it got a bit sexy at times which I was really not expecting! Haha. It had that whole sexy and protective bad boy thing going which is always a good thing.

Overall.... Read it! xxx

For anyone who loves a good vampire romance, this book is a must! For me, it felt like a welcome return to the genuine vampire stories, like the original black and white Dracula films. With its dark, brooding atmosphere, and excursions to Highgate Cemetery and the darker parts of north London, the feeling of menace is brilliantly done. As the characters inhabit this shadow world, the reader expects something to jump out at them at any moment and they’re not disappointed. The hero was delicious – no pun intended – and I loved his wicked sense of humour and mischievousness, despite his darker side and controlling tendencies. The heroine gives as good as she gets and the conversations between them sparkle. All in all, a great read!

This is the story of Elinor who was turned by William, the Elder of London, after a tragic accident that would have ended her life.

The story itself was quite interesting and I enjoyed watching the fledgling vampire settle into her new life. The book tackles aspects of the turning and the weeks that follow that most others gloss over, such as the feeling that pulls a fledgling to sleep during the day. While I liked the story, there was something about the book that just didn’t click for me; I think it may have been the writing style, as it seemed over-written, like the author was trying too hard. Things were over-described in places, making sections of the book boring, which caused me to skim sections of the text until I felt the story picked back up again. I’m sorry to say that I found this book difficult to get into. I didn’t really settle into it until around half way through, and even then I was still skimming paragraphs here and there. The story is told in the first person from both Elinor and William’s perspective. It also contains several of William’s journal entries. I actually preferred the journal entries, over the first person narrative, so it wasn’t the changing perspectives that made this book difficult to get lost in.

I may not rate this book up among my favourites, but the story itself is a good one. I liked the characterisation of Elinor and while I question her self-preservation instincts, you had to admire the fact that she was always willing to stick up for herself. I found William to be a bit of a wild card. There were moments when he seriously over-reacted and treated Elinor appallingly, despite the fact that he’d been obsessed with her even before her turning. I found William difficult to understand in these scenes as they seemed completely out of character.

I’m undecided as to whether or not I’ll continue with this series, but I have added book two to my wish list just in case.

Suggested Audience: Adult readers of Paranormal Romance
Profanity: Negligible
Sexual content: Infrequent but detailed
Violence: Sporadic, sometimes severe
Cautionary element(s): Contains scenes of physical abuse, torture and attempted rape. Molestation is discussed as part of the character’s background.

This book is a nice fun read for anyone that is new to the genre or wants a taste of the genre. As an reader that has read the top 75 books in the goodreads urban fantasy/paranormal romance genre, this book fell short for me. In such an overpopulated market, especially in this genre, it is incredibly difficult to write a new book without inadvertently borrowing (whether intentionally or not) from the other great books in this genre. For these reasons, I deeply respect Stevens for giving it a go.

The story follows a young ballerina that gets into a horrible accident and is turned into a vampire (without consent) by a handsome older vampire in the city of London. The story has many of the themes present in the other books in this section and ultimately fails at bringing a fresh voice to the overcrowded market. The book is predictable. There is a scared little girl who gets turned into a vampire by a man that she doesn't know or love. She ultimately falls in love with him and proves herself both strong and unique in her abilities.

Since this is the author's fairly recent debut novel, I felt that I had to be extra honest in my review. Stevens has amazing potential to write an even better book. Her character development is good and the writing kept me interested the entire time. I know that new authors have it really tough so I hope that this review will serve as encouragement rather than a mean critique.

This was a really deep romance which makes your heart excited and you find it hard to put the book down. I read the first 50 pages and couldn't stop thinking about Will and Eleanor. The characters relationship beautifuly progressed and also started off unexpectedly. It was Heart felt and so enjoyable. I really loved the male character 'Will' who had a very different personality and way of speaking, I liked everything about him for a vampire and When books make me feel this way they deserve A 5 star. If you love vampire and romance then read this. Nothing huge had to happen for this to be great, and focuses on the characters more than plots, in which the ending has warmed up a place for book 2.

Great short read!

I thought the plot and characters were well thought out and the theme of each stayed on track. The heroine didn’t take an absurd self loathing like I’ve found in most books as these. I would have preferred a less drawn out beginning instead, maybe a longer more detailed resolution to the problem, but overall it was a fun read. Well written and like previously stated, the characters stayed true to who they were throughout the entirety of the book. If you’re looking for a short and quick read I’d definitely recommend.

This review is from my teenage daughter: I am a teenager who likes vampire books and I am just starting to get more into romance reads and so this appealed to me. I found this book really good. I liked Ellie because she was a strong character and not easily lead. The setting was good and the storyline was interesting. I'd recommend it and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Not bad bad but in using the plot device of the male and female POV, the tale became disjointed. The female sections were much better than the male. Good bones but not fleshed out enough for me. Unable to recommend to the normal crew at this time.

This was the first book I have read, and finished, in well over a year. Berni's writing is captivating, well-structured and anything but boring.
The world was interesting and introduced us back to the roots of the more traditional vampire that can't be around when daylight strikes and flinches at the touch of silver. Although I would have liked to have lycanthropes expanded on a bit more, I realise that they aren't really the centre of the story.
I loved the book very much, however I am giving it four stars instead of five. The reason for this is that there is this event in the book called 'trials' that is never actually explained. Heck, the main character was as confused about what they were as much as the reader. Other than that, I felt that there was enough closure and answered questions.
I recommend it for those looking for something quick to read, something that is witty, and something that contains slightly creepy, somewhat relatable characters.

Twitter is an amazing tool and I enjoy how it can expand authors and bloggers reach so easily. Someone I didn’t know retweeted a review I had done, clicked on the link (cos I’m nosey that way) and discovered a fascinating sounding story I hadn’t read yet by a new to me author and also a Choc Lit author (yes I adore Choc Lit) — happy camper all around. As I’ve mentioned before, paranormal romance is my first love and spin me a vampire tale with twists I haven’t run across before and I am hooked.

Elinor is dead or I should say undead. Awakening to a darkened room she is confused and not a little scared. She has no memory of how she got here (wherever here is), in fact she has little recollection of the recent past either. The door opens and a tall, handsome as sin, with an attitude to match, man walks in – William or Will, elder vampire of London and the man who made Ellie what she now is… a fledgling vampire.

Will had to make a decision. He had hoped to let Ellie get to know him, romance her, even help her along the path to falling in love with him before he ever offered up the choice to turn her into what he was – to offer her eternity as his soulmate. But you remember what is said about best laid plans… they don’t often turn out the way we’d wish. He’d had to turn her far before he was ready or lose her forever, and that was not an option for him.

Right now she was a terrified young woman who had no idea of what was happening to her. She was afraid of the dark and the dark was now her only option for life. Will and Ellie spent the first days together, alone in that cellar as Will slowly, calmly explained what had happened to her and her new life. At first Ellie fought him at every turn, yet as time passed she let down her guard and let him in – and in doing so opened up a world that she had no idea existed, no clue how to navigate it’s delicate balances… and she would come face to face with pure evil.

Dance Until Dawn is such a moving, finely woven spell of a man and a woman finding their way to love. It is not difficult at all to imagine Ellie’s terror, and also it is so easy to hear the emotions in Will’s voice and actions as he brings the woman he loves into the world he dominates. Since she is my favorite vampire author of all time, it is a compliment that the world building and intense action of this novel reminds me of the Wings in the Night series by Maggie Shayne. And I do not give that compliment to new to me authors lightly, trust me on that. I had absolutely no hesitation in falling into the world that Ms. Stevens created in Dance Until Dawn. The characters are vivid and intriguing, the world and it’s lore are believable and the villainess is such a pure evil piece of crap, I had no troubles hating her on sight.

I honestly hope that we will see more of Ellie and Will, along with other amazingly interesting characters that were met in this story again…soon.

If you love Paranormal Romance, if vampires and their ladies fill you with anticipation, if you enjoy a knockdown, all out fight between the good and the evil of the paranormal world — then this novel is for you. I highly recommend Dance Until Dawn and I’m hoping for a sequel, or better yet a series in the future… fervently hoping. (hint hint)

FOR ME, this book was a no-no.
I wanted to read something about vampires because I wanted to relive my vampire obsession (aka Twilight), but this book fell short of my expectations.

To begin with, I regret to say that the main male character was extremely toxic. The whole story was bordering on Stockholm syndrome. He was the main reason I wasn't able to finish the book. Sorry, but I can't do it.

Emotionally wrought and filled with searing vision as to stir the soul!

Do you believe in love after life?

As a Twi-hard and paranormal romance reader I was drawn to this book like a magnet; attracted to the plotline on the subject of immortal love. Having read and reviewed many books before for ‘Choc Lit’ publishers (for instance Christina Courtenay’s sensational YA novel ‘New England Rocks’ as well as other Vampire novels like ‘Falling Apart’ by Jane Lovering and ‘Vampire state of mind’) my expectations were high as I delved into this refreshingly original debut. Choc Lit really has such a delicious selection of fiction! (www.choc-lit.com) Expectations were exceeded with Berni Stevens hauntingly mesmeric, paranormal fantasy as I was sat glued to the pages throughout truly impressed! Anyone seeking a sublime supernatural story for adults that’s richly evocative, chilling and that ‘seeps underneath your skin’ - - must consider adding this to their bookshelf.

Emerging from the embers of one author’s inspired imagination…comes a profoundly poignant, melting romance containing all the qualities of a true classic. The author’s love of Vampire folklore {from Bram Stoker’s Dracula to Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla and Polidori’s The Vampyre} adds to the authenticity and substantial storyline full of realistic details. The convincing narrative contained such an exquisite blend of fact, fictitious creativity and subtle nuance so rich and beguiling as to paint an everlasting picture in your mind.

(Quote: Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight…)
“About 3 things i was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, i was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him”

Encapsulating on the page the gothic quality to this remarkable story, Berni Stevens is an accomplished author whose novel pierced a hole in my heart! Once again I am astounded by another markedly exceptional, highly-readable book published through Choc Lit and so I highly recommend their diverse range of books of various genre to ALL READERS. Ellie and Will are two star-crossed lovers whose story has touched me inwardly so as to leave a permanent mark, and proof of how {overlook the cliché) similarly to Romeo & Juliet that love lasts eternally!

*I would like to thank Berni Stevens and also Choc Lit Publishers for providing me with a physical review copy of Dance Until Dawn *

Wow I absolutely loved this! I had obviously read the synopsis, but had no idea just how much I was going to enjoy it!

I must admit I was a teeny tiny bit skeptical about this as it was back in the world of Vampires and I wasn't sure how it was going to stand out and be different. But I am more than happy to say it was a fantastic Vampire story in its own right and I liked being back in fiction world of Vampires after given it a wide birth when Vampire fiction exploded.

Berni writes brilliantly. Within the first few lines I was completely hooked and every single page was unputdownable.

I loved Ellie as a character and really felt like I stepped into her shoes whilst reading this. She was a feisty, strong and knew her own mind and I don't think Will quite realised what he was taking on when he turned her into a Vampire! Oh and speaking of Will! Sigh! Wow what a man/vampire! A new book boyfriend for me definitely!

Along with Ellie we learn that the Vampire world is a dangerous one; they aren't just a danger to humans and this made for some very gripping, heart stopping reading!

The story is mostly told from Ellie's point of view, but I really liked that we got snippets of what Will was thinking through his diary entries. I love getting all main characters points of view.

I really really really hope their is a sequel to this, as even though there is no real cliffhanger at the end, I felt like I could have continued reading. I want to go back to Ellie and Will's world.

A gripping, absorbing and unputdownable book. I cannot wait for more from Berni!

Right from the beginning I was hooked! The story of Elinor and Will was wonderful.

Will is absolutely taken by the sight of Elinor that he follows her every move. She is the one he has waited his entire existence for. But not wanting to take her until the time is right; he enjoys their encounters hoping that she will fall in love with him and want to be turned.

Elinor is a free spirited, independent young woman who acts in the theatre and generally loves life. She is happy enough with her humble life, enjoying her friends and her work. She encounters a very handsome man on occasion but just assumes it stems from her work in the theatre.

Unfortunately for Elinor she is run down by a drunk driver and luckily for Will he is there to turn her before she dies. Upon awakening, Elinor believes she has been kidnapped and thus begins the life of our characters. Elinor is demanding on knowing what Will’s intentions are and Will calmly trying to explain to her the situation. The actual event of her death is not revealed to Elinor for quite some time, as she believes Will has turned her for the fun of it.
The lack of communication between the characters goes on throughout the story and Elinor and Will begin as most couples do, a bit at a time.

Will is an Elder vampire, the strongest, and he has reign over the London area. His love for Elinor is quite patient where Elinor is not. She is not like the women he has encountered in the past so they learn from each other and soon begin to understand the way of their worlds. It is then that we meet Will’s maker, Khiara, and the troubles that ensue in the vampire world.

I found Dance until Dawn positively seductive! Ellie wakes up in a new gothic world of vampires. She is totally confused and that confusion leads to some of the most humourous one liners. There is some truly wonderful dialogue in the book and that is what carries it to a new level. Most of the early part of the book is just Ellie and Will in one room getting to know each other and those kind of claustrophobic scenes are very well written. Berni Stevens writes in such a way that there are no distractions; it is just a singularly driven piece of written art.

Will is such a delicious character. He has a very tragic past but he still maintains his humanity. He is a cross between an old-fashioned gothic hero and an empathic modern man. This book really alters the misconceptions of what you may think vampires really are.

What really struck me about Dance Until Dawn was the fact that Will and Elinor were equals. They took turns rescuing another from various spots of bother. I found that very refreshing. I can not wait to see what Berni Steven's writes next.

I found this book somewhat mesmerising. It isn't anything like Twilight, it is a whole new vampire world. The relationship between Ellie and Will made me smile, and the flirtatious banter made me laugh.

The book really does centre around their relationship and doesn't really get into the battle between Will and the the evil Khiara until quite a way into the book. To be honest, I still don't know what the Trials are and the 'battle' itself didn't really seem to grip me in the way it should have. I didn't feel nervous at the outcome and I think because it wasn't built up for long enough into a suspense for me.

However I really liked the characters and their relationship. Will is an extremely chivalrous man despite being a vampire, and I challenge you not to fall in love with him, just a little bit...!

I'm having a "vampire" craze and reading as many books as I can. Dance Until Dawn comes high up on my list of favourites as it adds a different twist to the same-old same-old types of vampire literature hitting the bookshelves.
Ms Stevens manages to create characters who are seductive without the reader having to plough through pages of erotica, thank God.
The atmosphere is gothic, Will the main Vampire runs the risk of being over-dominant but a soft and caring side to his character (not unknown in Ms. Stevens's vampire world) redeems him ten times over. Ellie, who is the fledgling vampire, is feisty yet vulnerable. I loved watching the attraction grow between these two. Sequel please Ms. Stevens!!!

This book was a delightful surprise to read - largely because before I started it, I didn't realise it was a vampire novel! Berni is well known as a graphic designer and artist with a string of stunning book covers to her name. To Artist, she can now add Author to her CV, and deservedly so.

The first 60% of the book is essentially a two-hander; the dialogue between Will and Elie crackles and sparkles. That's a difficult task, and Berni manages it with aplomb. A lively cast of villains make their entry as the story moves towards a satisfying conclusion.

It appears that this is the first of a trilogy. Well, bring on Vol. 2.
