Benjamin I keep you in a place within reach, but I don’t dare seek you out. I keep you just enough, just enough to feel you close. You’re my best friend, but I know in my heart you’ve always been more. I don’t dare look too much, hold too much, or wish too much from you. But it’s always there between us, potent and underneath the layers I keep you hidden in until it’s too much, and it sends me searching to find another someone to hold. And when I find her, I know I’m safe again. Safe from the need to make you mine. Emily I’m within reach, but he never dares to seek me out. I will keep you always, just enough, just enough to feel you close, because I don’t see you as anything more than a best friend… until that line blurs. I’m too afraid to tiptoe any closer to where you are, where we could be, but when I think I’m finally going to try reaching for more of you, another someone lands in your arms instead. And when she does, I know I’m safe again. Safe from the need to let me be yours. A friends to lovers STANDALONE
I had the pleasure of proofing this wonderful baby of Michelle's and as always, she has such a way with sharing tender moments, angsty problems, and beautiful romances.
The whole time I read the story of Benjamin and Emily, I wanted to shout at them to just realize how wonderful a relationship would be for them. For them to just GET TOGETHER!!
A beautiful story of friends to lovers that will have the reader rooting for Benjamin and Emily and smacking their heads when each would make a stupid decision that only kept them as friends and apart as lovers.
Blurb: How safe is too safe? And what happens when just enough is no longer enough?

Benjamin lives in a stable home with protective parents that give him anything he needs. He is talented, athletic and smart. He also happens to be Emily's best friend. It's been that way since her family moved in next door when the kids were in preschool. He is her safe harbor in troubled times. He has always been in love with her but too afraid to risk losing her so he chooses to stay safe and be just enough.
Emily has a dysfunctional family that includes an alcoholic father and an absent mother. She wants to be loved and goes looking for it in all the wrong places. Benjamin always catches her when she falls and she counts on him for moral support and comfort on the bad days. She finds herself growing more independent in life but increasingly needy when it comes to Benjamin. Can just enough ever be enough?
After many years and trying times they each must face the truth. They either have to risk it all or lose everything. Do they have the courage to face that leap of faith together or apart?
I had never stumbled across this author before but love the style of her writing. She gives you more than enough to fall in love with these characters. This story takes place over the course of our two main characters lives so we get a full richly layered story told from dual POV's. It takes you on the journey of self discovery for each of them over 20 years. They grow apart and together but never let each go completely.
Each family is equally represented and given texture and weight. We come to know each member and they add to rather than detract from the story. I would love to read her father's story next!
There were plenty of moments where I wanted to shake Emily's teeth out in an effort to make her see what had always been in front of her. Gah! I love those moments! He also needed a boot up the ass but his indecision came from fear and I could empathize. Between the two of them there was more than enough angst to keep me reading.
The sex and chemistry was beautifully written and felt very true to life. The way they verbally spared was eyeball porn as far as I'm concerned. It was the best part of the story.
There's a story in a story because the female main is an aspiring author. It's a bit distracting in the earlier installations but later it becomes clearer the intent. It's not the kind of story that every reader will appreciate and I think it could be skipped without ruining the story between the two mains.
Technically this was a flawless book. I didn't find word butchery or bad punctuation. The story flowed easily and kept me entertained for the better part of a day.
Can I recommend this book? Yes. It was an easy read and makes me want to read another by this author.

Happy Easter/April Fool's/Release day! IT'S LIVE! HAHA. No, this is not an April fools. ______________________________ “Now that the truth is out in the open, let’s talk about how you never even closed your eyes!” “I need them open to see.” “Exactly!” She huffed. “You saw all my goods.” “Yes, I saw your half-shaven peter-eater,” I confirmed. _______________________________
This book was more for someone younger than me and I didn't really connect with the characters. The last book I read from this author was a wonderful romance, so I intend to read through the back list.
An amazing love story starting as friends. I had many laughs and warm feelings while reading this book. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters from the beginning to end. This is a book that I could read again and again.
So I stopped reading at 8% because… “I took in his slanted eyes that were my favorite feature on him.” The male lead is biracial (Asian and Caucasian). So many other ways to describe his eyes…almond, doe eyes, etc. I’m shook. You realize everyone who read this and gave it 2 to 5 stars was like completely cool with that. The absolute ignorance. I can only imagine what other micro aggressions, implicit biases and overt racist language is in the rest of this trash. I certainly don’t care to know.
This is the second book I’ve read from this author. I did not love this one as much as I did “One Percent of You.”
I enjoyed seeing the growth of the characters in this story, especially the parents of Benjamin and Emily. I just couldn’t feel the chemistry between the two main characters. Their friendship was sweet, but it felt like a sudden transition when Emile started realizing she had feelings for Benjamin. I thought it would be something gradual, yet it seemed to happen overnight. Perhaps it was the writing and it just didn’t make me feel like it was real.
Some things that I noticed about both books were grammatical errors that seemed simple enough to be corrected but weren’t. I was able to overlook it with “One Percent of You” because I loved the story so much, but with this one it was more bothersome and I couldn’t wait to just be done with it this book. I hope this author continues to write because she does have great talent, but I hope she makes sure to get her work edited well so that the errors don’t detract from the story.
Mostly on okay read that got a little draggy. I struggled to finish. 2.5 stars
A few nits: The countdown at the beginning of most chapters is incorrect. It ends at Christmas and then restarts. At first I thought it was a count forward until it started going down again. Lots of character talked about when they or others would "get off." While in context it's obvious they are referring to ending shifts at work, the first few times the little pervert in me sniggered. Then when it kept happening, it got annoying. At least say it "get off of work" sometimes, or have some characters say it one way and others another. Overall, the book could use some editing, especially near the end. The excerpts from the heroines "absurdly comedic" book aren't especially funny. Moderately absurd, though.
This book was great! I laughed and was like come on you two get it together. Benjamin and Emily characters are something , I very much enjoyed reading this book. Their love started many many years ago , but things happened . Do you think that true love can last a lifetime? Go get this book. But wait there's Gorilla Ben now that's something. This is my second book I've read of Michelle Gross and very much enjoyed them. Can't wait to read more from her.
Having received this book as an advanced copy for review I set about reading to see what I thought. The book is a true girl next door story, it follows the friendship of Benjamin and Emily as they both deal with day to day, year to year life. Coming close to revealing real feelings time and time again but pulling back. Moving away, relationships and interfering family and friends fail to un do the friendship these two have.
It's not that the plot or writing was bad, I just simply did not enjoy this one. I felt that a lot wasn't said between the two and some things were just missing. The timeline was also confusing, and I didn't like the storyline of Emily's writing. Good thing I was able to get through it in one day otherwise when I put it down, I might not have picked it back up again.
Oh I think I might have fallen a bit for Benjamin. The story captured me. I can't say too much as I will have to tell the story but even though the ending is almost obvious it's the journey there that have me smiling and giggling and wow breathless at times..Michelle Gross you had me at hallo
I really enjoyed this book! There were many different quirks that made the story more interesting and appealing. I liked the characters, even when I wanted to smack then for being so stupid! I hadn't read this author before, but I will definitely read her again. Charming, interesting, and entertaining!
I really enjoyed their story. It's very surprising that they were best friends for so long before she realized her feelings. Benjamin's mom is hilarious. She seemed mean at first but then her shenanigans were too funny. This was my first book by Michelle Gross and I recommend you read it. I highly doubt that you will be disappointed
Benjamin and Emily are best friends and next door neighbors. Although, growing up, Benjamin has always had a crush on her. I’ve enjoyed reading about them and also, Gorilla Ben and Rosie. Some parts, like when the author goes to different dates, it gets confusing. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable book.
Michelle Gross gives a wonderful, slow burn friends to lovers romance with Just Enough. This book was a quick, easy read with engaging characters. Ben and Emily's story is beautiful and full of love, laughter, and some angst.
Started off really promising then got really boring after they got together. Stopped reading from about 88%, skimmed through and didn’t really notice anything exciting happening so leaving it there
The friends to lovers story of Benjamin and his best friend and neighbor Emily starts of slow and then ignites. There was more spice than I expected based on the first half of the story. Overall a quick, good read.
The romance and love builds so much from them being best friends. He is always there to protect her and be her night in shinny armor. 💓 it's a must read!!!!!! You don't find love like this 😍😈
