Cassie Greutman is a small town Ohio girl who has always loved stories in any form. You can usually find her typing away at her computer or playing out in the barn with her ponies.
Review: I’ve read a lot of YA books, a lot of fantasy books, and a lot of both combined, but I absolutely flew through this. Trisha was such a believable teenage character, in voice and personality, and while you often get one in books, you don’t always get both. I love the way she just shrugs things off, gets into ridiculous danger, and is so sarcastic about it both during and after. All the characters in REGEN are just so real, even when they’re zipping about on quests through portals.
Although fae and Faerie obviously feature heavily, the story isn’t overloaded with different creatures / backstory / strange situations that are there because they seem cool (I’m as guilty of that as anyone. Cool new ghost thing I researched that clings to people’s backs at night? You’re in). Between the goblins and a very creepy ghost that feeds off energy, there was just the right amount of weird to keep you a bit freaked out, but not thinking well, okay, this isn’t the real world.
All I’ll say about the Wade storyline is: good, and without giving anything away, I loved the ending. I often feel let down by endings, but this was very very satisfying. All I want to know now is 1: what’s the meaning of the title, 2, who are Trisha’s parents, and 3: is there a sequel?
I was given an earc through netgalley in exchange for a review. The good: It's a fast paced book full of adventure. I always enjoy a good fae/faerie book and it's interesting to see the authors take on it in this sorry. I loved Trish's foster parents in this book, I felt like they were very kind and sweet to Trish, no matter what she did. The bad: I did not like our main character here. In my opinion she sounded like a 12 year old a majority of the time. She was pretty rude to her foster parents and others, by just doing anything she wanted without a care of the consequences. I also didn't really feel that much of a connection to the characters. Not many of them got very much development. And lastly, I felt like the writing in this story was more tell than show. The author could've used more "showing" descriptions for things. Once again, thank you for letting me read your book.
Definitely 4.5 OH. MY. GOSH. this book had me hooked from page one and I literally stayed up just to finish it or because I could not put it down lol Trish’s journey keeps you on the edge and the characters are well developed that you feel a connection with them. Ready for the next!
Great YA Fantasy. Let me start off by saying I'm not a fan of YA, but this author changed my opinion. Trisha is a fae living in a human world and things are coming together for her. She has a good foster family, a boyfriend who she's crazy about and all in all things are good until said boyfriend tries to murder her one night by shooting her. Trish doesn't really want to embrace her fae inheritance. She really doesn't know that much about it because her biological mother only gave her minimal information and dumped her off at homes to be raised by foster parents. Nothing went well for her until she got lucky with foster parents Dan and Nina. She just wants to live a normal teen life, but alas it's not to be. Days after her boyfriend Wade tried to murder her, she's abducted by fae people who tell her she can either become a member of a team to capture a rogue fae named Jaden or go to Farie and take her chances. Of course she agrees to do what they want her to do, she wants to stay on earth, but much to her dismay, her would be murderer Wade is part of this team. She has a thing for him though that she struggles with because at times he is nice to her and does have a reason for his dispicable actions. The reason she doesn't die when Wade shoots her is because she has the power of regeneration. She can suffer much physically, but always regenerate albeit with an appetite to rival any teen. One adventure after another occurs in her attempt to capture this kid Jaden who is wanted by the fairie council. But you find that Trisha has a very deep conscious. She does what she does because of what she feels is right, but still motivating her is her desire to stay with her foster family--the only people who have ever treated her well. She faces so many trials and tribulations while she is trying to find her happily ever after. Will she? You will want to read this to find out. Great writing. I felt for once in a YA that the heroine was not only strong, but actually thought and talked like a teenager. She's a little more emotionally competent than a real teenager, but she is a fairie so I could buy that. All in all I enjoyed and would highly recommend for those who like YA fantasy.
When Trisha woke up in the middle of the forest not remembering a thing about the events of the past few hours (or even days, as she realizes later), her mother’s words about strange things starting to happen when she turns sixteen, suddenly start making sense. Only, as her memory returns completely and she tries to get to the bottom of her boyfriend’s betrayal, a strange creature appears and takes her to the Faerie, where she belongs according to him. Soon, she is tasked with a mission, on which her future and freedom depend… I really enjoyed following Trisha’s journey. She was a remarkable character with a lot of spunk in her, defiant yet just and loving, and I couldn’t help but feel for her and her struggle. Mystery aspect, surrounding Jaden, was also a wonderful touch and I couldn’t turn pages fast enough to see how it all plays out. A great choice for all fans of the genre. Five stars.
I absolutely could not get enough! I adored watching Trish grow into her powers on top of learning how important family is- not to mention the concept of blood doesnt always make a family. A lot of the concepts hit home for me, being an adopted kid. If you enjoy YA Fantasy/ Action then you have just found your new favorite book series!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I LOVED “Regeneration”! I picked up book 1 from the author at a book signing and could not wait to read it! The story really pulled me in and I just could not stop reading it!! Cassie is a really good writer. I was reading a chapter and she ended it on a cliffhanger, so I had to know what happened next!!! I’ve can’t wait to read her other books in the series! Thank you Cassie!!!
Exciting Urban Fantasy. Follow the main character, Trisha, through her trials as she balances her supernatural powers with her need for an everyday life. Cassie puts humanity into fantasy.
One of the reasons I read a lot of new authors is that it’s always a joy to find a rising new talent. Cassie Greutman, definitely fits in the rising star category. For me to enjoy a story it has to have strong, likeable characters. The heroine of this book is definitely likeable with a somewhat rebellious teenager likeability. She’s got a right to being a little surly since life has been tough on her as a growing teen. After being passed around in the foster care system, she finally strikes gold with Jim and Nina as her current foster parents. They genuinely care about her and she hopes to enjoy the rest of her teen years as a happy, normal teenager.
This is not to be as she soon finds she has Fae powers, including the ability to regenerate from even the most deadly wounds or injuries. She also finds out that being Fae is not all sweetness and light. She’s forced into dangerous situations by members of the Fae Council, where she must hunt down magical creatures and other powerful Fae. I love that her foster mom gets involved in the challenges and dangers with her instead of being the stereotypical foster mom.
This is a great story with solid characters that are believable and consistent throughout the book. There is lots of action and some romance along the way. The teen dialogue is also spot on and consistent with the way teens talk, act and feel, which is something I think a lot of authors in this genre fail to accomplish. Trisha is especially strong as a lead character and easy to understand and root for as she fights her way through one challenge after another. I look forward to reading more books from Cassie and hope to see a sequel that continues Trisha’s journey.
I absolutely loved this book! I've always been a fan of stories that revolve around Faerie and the Fae and Cassie Greutman's Regen is a modern twist on some of my favorite aspects! From their inability to lie, the portals, the capriciousness and their different skills, there were enough elements reminiscent of other Faerie-type novels while creating a world of her own.
This book starts with a bang, literally. The main character, Trisha, wakes up from the dead--but she's no zombie. She's a fae, and we learn her main power is regeneration. That's not the only one, though we discover throughout the novel that Trisha is different from other Fae in many ways. She's been raised human, for one thing, and has skills the other's don't.
Those skills are what get her roped up in the main plot of this story. She's given a choice that's not really a choice and is forced into partnering up with three other Fae. The first half of the book are all about her working with her squad while avoiding her well-meaning foster parents. Then the second half of the book hits and I couldn't put it down.
Trisha is a wonderful character. She's a snarky teen on the surface, but her past has definitely shaped who she is. I want to know more about her Mom, and the whole thing with her powers/skills. Cray's got a backstory, I just know it, and I want to see her give Wade an opportunity to explain himself. This first book has a complete story to it, but Ms. Greutman leaves her readers wanting so much more from the incredibly detailed and magical world she built!
YA read. Wow. I enjoyed every page – Regen, by Cassie Greutman. I cannot wait to clutch my hands on the next book. Reading about Tisha and how she has had to keep her family and abilities secret; the poor kid being shuffled from one foster family to another, until Dan and Nina invited her into their home and lives. Just when she had thought, her life had started to become normal for a teenager, only for Trisha to wake up in the woods covered in blood from being shot. Trisha’s life is never going to be the same, especially when she remembered; it had been her boyfriend pulling the trigger. We are taken into a world of paranormal, the only question for Trisha is, whom she can really trust, when she is secretly forced to work, side by side with her ex-boyfriend. The one person she had opened up to and trusted. Trisha meets Cray and Jaden along her journey into the fae world of paranormal. Will their lives ever be the same or will they all end up in the clutches of the Council. I recommend this book, written by a talented author.
When you are shot in the chest, that it. You are dead. It is a true tragedy when the boy you love is the one who killed you. Or, at least, he thinks he killed you. But Trisha isn't dead because of her fae abilities.
But now the Faerie Council has demanded she find an escaped fugitive; the only problem is she has to work with the boy who tried to murder her. But hang on... Was it her death he really wanted?
Oh, I did enjoy this book. Regen by Cassie Greutman is a non-stop action adventure that kept me turning those pages. I adored the characterisation of Trisha. She is such a strong protagonist who despite everything that has happened to her has a deep respect for life. She is a wonderful heroine, perfect for young adults and adults alike!
A lot happens in this book, and it is a very much a guessing game as to who the good guys are. Jaden deserves his own mention. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I thought Jaden was wonderfully portrayed.
The prose is rich and engaging. Definitely, a 5 star read!
I loved this book! Trisha is a teen fae who has finally found a family, and she's forced to do extreme things to keep it. I adore her. She's a good person, and she only wants to protect her family and help people. Easier said than done, when the Fae Council are shadowy jerkfaces. The fae in this story are really cool--some of the fun familiars(inable to lie)--along with new things that added really interesting dynamics to the story. I wanted to know more about them, and I'm looking forward to that in book 2. The plot seemed to meander a bit in the first half, but the second act was nonstop. I couldn't put it down. And the ending was great! Super satisfying and full of heart, while still leaving plenty of mysteries to unravel later. All in all, a fun, heartfelt story about family. I'm definitely going to read on.
The heroine is a strong character that deserves to be looked at as a great role model. She has a fighting spirit that shows in her actions.
The story plot was filled with all these mystery gaps that enticed me to further read and as I got closer to the beginning, the questions in my head weren't really fully answered but, rather, they were fueled with more curiousity as to what was awaiting them even as the pages ended.
This book contains many of my favorite story elements: magic, mystery, action, an overlap of Faerie and Earth, lovable characters and foster kids. I am eager to read the next saga in Trish's life.
Anyone who enjoys books where the realms of fae and humans cross over and characters teeter between good and evil will love this one!
Wonderful YA urban fantasy novel. Loved the characters and the adventure. I received a free copy from the author through Voracious Readers Only and am looking forward to the next one by Cassie Greutman.
I loved reading Trisha’s story. Being human/fae hybrid does not make her life easy. Struggling to find who and what she is, she is faced with a lot of trials. It’s fast paced with a lot of action that kept me flipping the pages. I hope there is a sequel, because I would love to read more!
Action. Adventure. Found family. Magic. Wonderful characters. There is just so much to love about this book. Plenty of suspense and some very heartfelt moments as well.
There is many elements to this story, a lover shoots his girlfriend in the chest, then she as to work with him to find a fugitive. It is one rollercoster of a ride!! Great writing style, fast paced and enjoyable
That's what I thought from the very first few chapters. The way the story started and the way the interaction between the characters went made me think of the times I was watching anime. A strong, shocking I would say, beginning then lots of action packed with family relationship details. Trisha, the main character, has a badass personality and teams up with a cold-hearted girl and a very dubious ex-boyfriend in order to find a supposed criminal. So we have a temperamental girl, a cold girl, a cool yet annoying sometimes handsome Fae and then comes the quiet type of guy. What could be more fun than a team like that? Well, a very well planned plot twist I hadn't expected but surprised me in a very good way.
Romance is low, fights are plenty (Trisha actually gets many injuries thanks to her Fae inborn ability), funny moments marked by: the protagonist's sarcastic thinking, the dialogue or the sudden reactions of the characters. Take this quick face expression change: "He lifted an eyebrow and gave me that grin, the one I used to not be able to resist. Used to. The grin slipped off and he got a puppy dog look on his face, one that I'd never seen before." Also, there's sitcom sometimes because Trish doesn't know what all her Fae abilities are and has trouble learning them. Her temporary act as a middleman between Fae and mortals towards the last chapters is comical too.
A thing that gave heaviness to the story was the mother-father-daughter relationship and also the simple friendship Trisha will learn to appreciate as she continues to stay with the humans. The way they were presented also made me understand the girl's attachment to the mortals' world.
I enjoyed reading this book and felt that the memories it brought to me of the times I was watching anime made me understand better the facial expressions of the characters. The story is complex enough to look forward to a continuation. Overall story that proves the author had a blast of inspiration!
Excellent, well written YA urban fantasy. All of the characters are relatable. The main character is likeable. Her struggle to accept herself and fit into a family is realistic. Well worth the read.
I received a free copy and am leaving my honest review
when I first started reading Regen I thought it was maybe the second in a series as the story opened with Trisha waking up in the woods! There was no initial character build up which I found a bit disconcerting, but, having said that the story gripped me.
The further into the book I got and more was revealed about each character, especially Trisha, and sometimes I found her inability to share or communicate maddening, but I suppose that's teenagers all over, let alone one who are fae and have to hide the fact she can heal herself!
The story was well written and I look forward to reading more about Trisha and her journey into understanding where she came from and the perils she will face finding out about her history and biological fae family.
Well written and very engaging. Not usually keen on reading YA fantasy genres but Cassie had me hooked within the first few minutes of reading. I will certainly be reading more YA Fantasy books! It starts off with Trish who is fae and has no idea what is going on as she 'wakes up' in the forest covered in blood. Very hard to put down once I started reading it, really hope there will be a second book as I can not get enough of this and would really look forward to how Trish progresses. This book really allows you to connect with the characters and makes you feel as though you are there! Amazing and well written would highly recommend!
Faeries and young adult pair together perfectly in this fantasy tale. The main character Trish is a Fae living in a mortal world - just when things seem to be settling in place for her, her heritage pulls her in a different direction.
This book has all the right ingredients: Faeries, magic, trolls and oreos for dunking! 5/5 stars
I need more... I need to know what happens next, and left with so many unanswered questions....
What will happen now that Jaden is free, will Starren leave them alone, and will Dan allow Nina to move their family across country? Is Trisha now the next target after defying the fairie council?
Life is finally shaping up for Trisha. For the first time, she’s with a foster family she doesn’t hate. Her new school is decent, and she even has a boyfriend. Until the night she finds herself waking up in the woods covered in blood, a bullet hole in her dress.
Without her fae abilities, she’d be dead, but now the Faerie Council has given her an ultimatum. She has to help find an escaped fugitive, or be taken to Faerie, a place her missing mother told her horror stories about.
Now, Trish has to keep her day job a secret from her foster parents, join forces with the ex-boyfriend who killed her, and hunt down a dangerous criminal before he comes into his powers. Should be a piece of cake.

Well written, excellently paced, and a thoroughly enjoyable read. Regen is a coming of age YA Fantasy that flips the concept of Fae on its head, in all the right ways. The genre, and species, are some of my favourites, but because I read so much of the two, I was actually really bored of both. I started reading Regen because it seemed like a bridge between what I was used to and other genres such as mystery or crime. While I'm not sure it would fall into either of those categories, it's exactly the novel I needed to relight my YA Paranormal fire. If you're thinking about getting Regen, do, and prepare to spend an entire evening reading.
Regen is an easy YA fantasy read. The author has a great writing style. The storyline flows well. Regen gives a unique look at Faeries compared to the usual take. I found the story to be full of action that made it very hard to put down. This book is not just a fantasy, it deals with real life feelings as well. I highly recommend this book.
Urban Fantasy has become a favorite of mine, so when I saw this book, I could not resist. About two chapters in I realized how much the main character sounded like my (now adult) daughter and I could not put it down. From the first page, you are dropped into the story and can feel the energy and emotions of the main character, Regen. Glimpses of the past, as memories for Regen, help to fill in some of the blanks but frankly because the main character does not know a lot neither does the reader. This made for a very compelling read as I was learning as Regen was!
This book has been labeled “coming of age” or “YA Fantasy” but I believe those labels do not accurately tell all. The level of story intensity, as well as the fully dimensional character development in this book, is something I rarely see in YA and hence why I usually consider it a fickle genre.
Read it and then let it sit around for your teenager or young adult in your life - let them discover this great read - because you know just handing it to them might not work!
