Scottish bandit Alistair McPherson and his brother Alban known as the Highlanders throughout the Rocky Mountain frontier kidnapped a young 10-year-old girl named Connor O'Brien for ransom from Alma, Colorado. Conner’s wealthy grandfather Finn O'Brien on her father’s side owned and operated the London and Mosquito gold mines and was more than willing to pay the $100,000 ransom. What the Highlanders did not know was that Conner’s grandfather on her mother’s side was the famous Federal Marshal Eric Robert.

Don't normally write reviews, but feel plot and characters deserve to be recognized in as much that they maintained my interest from start to finish. I was not able to put it down once I started and the climax was most fitting and rewarding.
Chance Bondurant in this saga is a young man seeking retribution for the murder of his younger brother. With the half wolf by his side his journey after the 5 outlaws spans several years. With some love interest mixed in.
Following McCall (Mac ) Patton on his journey of retribution after a group of ex Union soldiers called red legs. They were murdering ex-Confederate soldiers 10 years after the war. They attempted to kill mac and his life long friend Sandy. Unfortunately they did kill sandy and the story follows Mac and Keegan a young girl who's parents were killed by the redlegs and her pup Hugo on their journey across the Rockies to find Keegans Aunt, and complete the journey to kill the redlegs
Book 3 of the series is a wonderful addition and full of great historical fiction. Matt Lee also known as the "Ghost" is a man's man and not to be trifled with. He had a war against the entire Ute Indian nation. Then he married a Ute Princess name Walk With Ghost and everything was fine for about 30 years until his wife was assaulted by some Union Army soldiers and the "Ghost" was released again. Fantastic yarn and looking forward to more from Kurt James.
The continuing saga in the Rockies sends Marshall Eric Robert, to rescue his granddaughter Conner from outlaws. He reconnects with his daughter and vows to bring Conner home or die trying. Matt Lee the ghost joins him on this journey with the White wolf timber. You will have to read the story to find out about timber I don't want to spoil the adventure by telling too much. Enjoy
If you love the perfect western then this book is for you. If you love the mountains and Colorado then this book is for you. If you love dogs an nature then this book is for you. I love a great revenge story this this book is for you. If you love a good love story then this book is for you. Love this new Kurt James novel and waiting on pins an needles for the next one.
LOVED this novel!! I've enjoyed all of this author's westerns. I have followed in my Dad's footsteps for loving westerns novels. This 3rd book has every emotion, as always, beautifully descriptive accurate descriptions of his surroundings and a story line you will not want to put down. I give this latest novel 5 stars!!
This is probably my favorite Kurt James book so far and I have read them all and loved each one of them. This is a heart warming story of an aging gunfighter 10 years after the Civil War and he finds himself all alone when his best friend is killed, but he rescues a young girl and her dog and he has to protect her in till she is safe with family . Great story.
Another thrilling adventure of the old west from Kurt James. Enjoyed this as much as his other novels. I had heard about the Spanish Cave of Gold legend on Legends of the West and I am amazed of the tale he spun around this legend. Bravo Mr. James - Bravo
Wow, oh wow. Another soon to be classic from my new favorite western author. Hoping there will be a 4th book in this series. I loved how Kurt James spun a tale around a real Spanish legend in Colorado.
Wonderful story of true love and redemption based in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Loved each and everyone of the characters in the book. Highly recommended for those that like westerns and love everlasting stories.
I enjoyed this book. I even found some recording online with sounds of the rockies. I seen the Rockies in the seventies while passing through Denver. This book made me want to go and hear the whispering aspend.
This is by far my favorite of Kurt James novels to this date. Beneath the adventure and danger of this story beats the most romantic love story that I have ever read.
Very, very good book. I enjoyed this book a lot. Very well written and has a lot of action in it. The book flows very well and is hard to put down. I highly recommend this book.
Book 2 of Kurt James "Rocky Mountain Series" was just as good as book one. Not a sequel, but a stand alone book with some character tie-ins from the first book. The half wolf and half something else dog Mutt alone is worth the read.
Once again Kurt James wrote a brilliant story that takes place in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. I hope he continues to saga of Chance, Kellie Shawn, and Mutt the half wolf half something else dog. This book was a pleasure to read.
There is always something special about a great story and this is one of those stories. Hardship, love, survival all come together here. The author captured his message with the words he wrote very eell.
This was a very good read. It included all the things that make a good western story. It had just enough romance to make it seen real. I truly enjoyed it.
Awesome book - Loved Chance, Kellie Shawn, Rey, Sherol, Roger and of course the half wolf and half something else dog - Mutt. Great characters with a great story.
I liked the story and the history. It was great to have the explanations of the real history past the end of the book. A couple of the cliches were a bit cheesy. What I absolutely didn't like was the fact that I listened to it on Audible and it was read by AI and it was absolutely horrible!!!!!!!!
Mac and his friend, Sandy, were headed to the gold fields in Colorado when they ran into a group of red-legs, former Union soldiers so were bent on killing all living Confederate soldiers. The was over but they were on a misson. The red-legs killed Sandy and set the cabin he and Mac were staying in on fire. Mac survived the attack. All that was left of Sandy was ashes and small pieces of bone. Mac took both horses and began his chase of the red-legs. He came upon a cabin that had been burned and the residents of the cabin were dead, becoming part of the ashes. The red-legs had struck again. Mac stayed overnight so he could bury the remains of the fire. He heard a sound in the rubble and found a young girl who had survived the fire because she and her dog had been placed in a cellar. Mac took the little girl, Keegan, and her dog, Hugo, and began his search in earnest for the red-legs. Read the book to read Mac's search.
I enjoyed this book. I just could not put it down. I hope you enjoy it also.
I always wait in anticipation for Kurt James books. As a woman he treats women in his books as strong and independent and not just pretty fluff for the story. His hero's are flawed which make them believable, but they are hero's never less. To steal a line from one of his books his hero's are, "One to ride the river with." When Mac Patton in this story found the young girl Keegan I cried my eyes out. A good cry and a better story. Love this on Kurt James.
Wow, is all I can say about this book. I am originally from Kansas and now live in Colorado. The trail described in the book which Kurt James calls the Keegan Trail is one that I have traveled countless times in my life. The story is top notch and historical notes in the book bring this tale of Mac Patton and Keegan O'Rourke alive to the reader. Waiting on pins and needles for Kurt James new book.
