Originally published in 2000 under the name Debbie Raleigh, Alexandra Ivy has re-released this with a beautiful new cover. I enjoyed this one, it's not one of my favorites I think I prefer her PNR but it was a good read. The story was well written and I liked the way it played out. I liked the characters too, even though Roma did get annoyingly stubborn at one point.
All it took was one meeting with Roma Allendyle for Lord Giles Carlton to be completely besotted and one conversation to fall head over heels. But Roma isn't looking for a husband she looking for her missing brother and only after Carlton points out that as a woman she will get no information of anyone in the Home Office does she finally give in and let Carlton help her; that by no way means she going to stop looking herself. It bugs Roma that Carlton is helping her, she can't figure out his motive and the fact that he can find out information about her brother because he's a man really bugs her. Roma also keeps getting distracted by how handsome he is and why out of all the women in London he wishes to be with her a head strong, intelligent, country girl who hates London. She can't seem to realize Carlton's helping her is also his way or courting her too.
Overall, it's an quick (unless you are constantly distracted by your kids like I was) and easy read. I loved the characters and the action was pretty intense there at the end. It's a worthwhile read. I really loved the atypical courtship between Carlton and Roma.

I liked this book and it had an amazing storyline, but I had a hard time connecting with the characters. They were good, but I found them very shallow and without depth.
The book actually became a 5 star at the 96% mark (huh).
I really enjoy Alexadra Ivy's writing, but unfortunately this was not a favorite, :-(

DNF. I managed to read three chapters before giving up. I just couldn't get over how sexist the H was. From the onset, it was established that he sees women as delicate flowers and are required to be passive and demure. He didn't even know her but he instantly judged her capability based on her gender alone. His conduct towards her was deplorable and disrespectful. As for the h, for someone who had such a supposedly strong personality, she was too distracted by his looks and masculinity to be remotely sensible. She turns instantly weak and missish whenever he was around and took his disrespect like it was OK. Whatever. One of the worst historicals I've ever read.

Recently Alexandra Ivy’s publisher has decided to re-publish all her historical romances she originally released under the name Debbie Raleigh, with a new cover as a bonus. It’s a very good thing for me as I adore the author and that allows me to read something by Alexandra while waiting for the next volumes in her other paranormal and romantic suspense series.
In Lord Carlton’s Courtship, we meet Roma Allendyle and Giles Carlton. They meet in peculiar circumstances: our heroine is looking for her missing brother and our hero, who from time to time works for The Crown, has come to get a document. Immediately the attraction between them is important but our heroine manages to run out on Giles and neither thinks they’ll see the other again. But without considering fate and the fact the heroine’s brother hasn’t reappeared, and here they meet again in London during the Season. Our hero is going to do anything to seduce Roma with which he fell madly in love, beginning by self-proclaiming himself her bodyguard.
The suspense in this story is directly linked to the heroine’s brother’s disappearance and the solution of the plot really surprised me. While I was quickly sure I knew the real culprit, in the end I was wrong lol.
I really liked this story that I recommend to historical romance lovers and to the author’s fans. We find here again her touch: very likeable heroes, action, well done story, suspense tinged with some twists.
There are not many important secondary characters and they are members of our heroes’ families or linked to the ongoing investigation. So I let the readers discover them as the reading goes along. What I can say is that I really liked Roma’s relatives and Giles’ grandmother.
I loved that the hero was determined and he’s the first to accept his feelings for our heroine. As for her she is more hesitant especially because she doesn’t feel she’s good enough for him and she doesn’t understand how he can want her amongst all.
To finish, there’re not many love scenes, the author having preferred focusing on the evolution of the story and the relationship between our heroes, but sensuality and sexual tension are very present all through the book.

Miss Roma Allendyle is a spirited young woman who is not afraid to do what she must to save her brother, William. William works for the government as a spy. When he disappears, she takes paperwork meant for him to deliver, dressed as a boy. She gets into trouble and is saved by Giles, Lord Carlton. He, also works for the Crown unofficially. Roma can shoot and ride as well as any man, but is injured when she delivers the package. Lord Giles takes care of her but does not know who she is until he sees her at a ball. He promises to help find her brother, without her help. She cannot leave it to Giles to look for William without her. They become unofficially betrothed to look for William. There is a traitor among them. Is it a friend or Lord Scowfield, her neighbor? Roma is kidnapped. Will Giles find her before she is hurt or killed? What of William? The adventure and excitement make this a great book for those who like spies and intrigue. The chemistry between Giles and Roma was obvious. I really liked this book. I received this book from Net Galley and Kensington Books for a honest review and no compensation otherwise. The opinions and thoughts are my own.

The beginning was so promising! Who doesn't like to read about a bold lady, dressed as a boy, racing off with London's most handsome rake and then their eventual reunion in the ballroom? The problem for me is one that many romance novels have - writing a strong, contrary female character that is not just stubborn and over-the-top annoying. Roma, unfortunately, crossed into annoying quite often.
At one point, when she is arguing with Lord Carlton, she claims he is treating her like a "bird-witted fool." And that, is spot on. She *is* a bird-witted fool. Because that was, of course, not the author's intent, she writes Lord Carlton's thoughts a page later when he thinks "he respected the unwavering loyalty and absolute courage Roma had displayed by following him to this isolated spot." I, however, find it more interesting when our heroine exhibits both bravery and intelligence rather than just boldness. Alas, Roma was not the heroine I wanted to read about.

4.5 stars. This review is for the release of this story in eBook and under a different pen name. I enjoyed this sweet romance that had witty dialogue, and a little mystery. The chemistry was pretty good for a clean story and you can see the connection and the character development as they learn to accept and love each other. The only reason why I gave a half star down grade is that there were a few questions that I had that bugged me, namely, what is Lord Carlton's title (is he an Earl, Viscount, etc?) and what exactly the familial connection between Roma and her Aunt and how they came to have properties so near each other. Not a big deal I just like to have all those details :) Overall, a very good clean romance. *I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Lord Carlton's Courtship was a very entertaining read. It's like a historical Rom Com with an mystery element added in.
Roma Allendyle is a 23 year old woman who was raised by her father and brother. She is high spirited, independent and has no need of a man in her life. Roma was doing just fine living at their country estate riding her horse, tending her garden and running the household until her brother goes missing. Roma finds herself thrust to London in the middle of the season where air headed debutant's are looking for a husband.
Lord Giles Carlton hates being in London being pawed after by woman who just want him for his vast estate, he longs to meet a woman who challenges him. Lord Carlton's luck changes when he meets Roma under strained circumstances. Roma is definitely a breathe of fresh air.

This is a rerelease by Alexandra Ivy and it was pretty good. Lady Roma Allendyle is on a mission. Shes not your normal lady of the ton but she will stop at nothing to find her brother. When a lead on his where abouts gets her injuried and places her in the path of lord Giles things are gonna get interesting.
Hes the man all the debutantes want. Hes managed to avoid the marriage mart for years. Now hes in a place hes never been before. His behavior and actions are so out of his normal realm that people are starting to notice. He wants to protect Roma but it's more than just looking for her brother.

I first read this novel ages ago after picking it up on some kind of clearance rack. I recently rediscovered it as I was going through some boxes of unpacked books from my last move.
I was looking for a quick, classic, romance to enjoy in the bubble bath and it was a zebra regency so I figured it was a match made in heaven. Little did I know just how right I was!
This novel really had a little of everything, a little mystery and intrigue that wasn't so obvious as to be pointless, really likeable and flawed characters, and love, true love.

Lord Carlton's Courtship (Kindle Edition) by Alexandra Ivy ... Great Historical Romance with some mystery and danger. Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this books..... Roma Allendyle (trying to find her missing brother) Lord Giles Carlton (does work for the crown and saves Roma thinking she is a lad)... The fun and adventure starts here and doesn't stop .... who is the good guy and who is the bad guy? All the twists and turns take us to a HEA. I really enjoyed this book and hope maybe some others in the book get their own stories.

Hero is Not a Hero
Heroine was great - the hero though? I would have enjoyed it so much more if he were the antagonist instead. He was a manipulative jerk the entire book, more concerned with imagined slights to his ego than in doing the right thing.
*Update - apparently whoever at Amazon checks reviews before posting them thinks that this violates their guidelines. I can't imagine how, unless they don't know the definition of the word antagonist? Either that, or somehow labeling a character a jerk is now considered hate speech.

I love Alexandra Ivy!!! I was excited to read just a good romance novel! I enjoy her paranormal books more, but this was well written and moved at a good pace.

Miss Roma Allendyle was a determined woman who was looking for her brother. She is not the usual lady found in society. Lord Giles Carlton was also determined to get his own way, he was arrogant and much sort after by the ladies. They meet in an unusual circumstance and subsequent meetings sparks Lord Carlton’s interest in Roma. Together they try to find Roma’s brother. Their interaction was entertaining as they were both stubborn. This was a good paced read but I would have liked an epilogue. I enjoyed this book and will look at more books by this author. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have never been a historical romance reader, but I have decided to give it a shot this year. I have to say of those that I have read, I am enjoying the genre. This book was fun in that the heroine was quite stubborn and self-assured. She was a fun character to read about. I loved when she realized she was in love with the H. It was like a duh moment for her.

I liked this one. At times it was a little wordy, but overall it moved along nicely and I really liked our characters Roma and Giles. Roma is pretty feisty and definitely does not take no for an answer. She also refuses to succumb to Giles’ many charms. I liked Giles, he was a good match for Roma. I do wish, at least at the end, that they had more of a declaration of their feelings. She is pretty prickly on the outside and I would have liked some of her inner softness to show a tad more. The mystery was pretty backstage, and felt like it was there just to give Gile an excuse to hang around Roma, not that I minded that much. I’ve really enjoyed the Debbie Raleigh books that I’ve read, I’m not sure if she has any more clean ones, which is too bad because they are really enjoyable stories. Anyway, I thought this was a fun read and one any regency lover would enjoy.

If you are looking for intrigue, romance, and adventure, this book has it all. It's very interesting and romantic how the hero and heroine meet. I also enjoyed the witty exchange of dialouge between them. The rest of the book deals with a nice development of the romance and the search for the heroine's missing brother. It's very sweet how Lord Carlton helps find the missing brother and falls in love in the process.
The witty dialogue and the constant maneuvering makes this an enjoyable read. The story of the missing brother takes TOO long to develop, however.

Roma is bold as brass and unapologetic about who she is. She can ride, she can shoot, she knows how to use a dagger... what can't she do!! Giles has met his match. I loved seeing Roma take him down a peg or two, making him think about things he wouldn't normally question. What a merry adventure they will lead each other on. Historical fans won't want to miss the treasure that is LORD CARLTON'S COURTSHIP.

Lord Carlton's Courtship is historical romance driven by a strong willed, unconventional heroine and the Lord who cannot help but love her. Giles, Lord Carlton is undercover for the crown and intercepting letters when he stumbles upon a young lad and a groom. After a shot wings the "lad", Giles soon discovers the lad is a "fiery sprite" with a red head of hair and a temper to match. Miss Roma Allendyle can ride and shot with the best of them after being raised by a military father and refuses to be left out of the search for her brother. Giles and Roma butt heads and sizzle with all the passion that burns between them. Roma brings the rake to heel and knocks him down a peg or two but a relationship between the most sought after bachelor and a lowly military man's daughter is unlikely. Yet a fake engagement and a little danger lead to a remarkable HEA. This book is a re-release under Alexandra Ivy's name, previously published under the Debbie Raleigh pen name. A lovely story that entertains to no end and literally, I could not put down. Lord Carlton's Courtship is historical romance driven by a strong willed, unconventional heroine and the Lord who cannot help but love her. Giles, Lord Carlton is undercover for the crown and intercepting letters when he stumbles upon a young lad and a groom. After a shot wings the "lad", Giles soon discovers the lad is a "fiery sprite" with a red head of hair and a temper to match. Miss Roma Allendyle can ride and shot with the best of them after being raised by a military father and refuses to be left out of the search for her brother. Giles and Roma butt heads and sizzle with all the passion that burns between them. Roma brings the rake to heel and knocks him down a peg or two but a relationship between the most sought after bachelor and a lowly military man's daughter is unlikely. Yet a fake engagement and a little danger lead to a remarkable HEA. It’s an entertaining read, despite it ending rather abruptly. The hero is pretty great. The heroine is a brave women who almost crosses the line into foolishness. She’s driven by love and concern for her missing brother, so her impetuousness didn’t brother me like as it would have otherwise.

This is my kind of book a romance with a mystery & intrigue but best of all the main characters are brilliant, fighting their attraction but the icing on the cake is their verbal spats which at times had me laughing out loud. This book is re released from 2000, I wish the author was still writing romances as they are still so very good.

I have never been a historical romance reader, but I have decided to give it a shot this year. I have to say of those that I have read, I am enjoying the genre. This book was fun in that the heroine was quite stubborn and self-assured. She was a fun character to read about. I loved when she realized she was in love with the H. It was like a duh moment for her.
