This is a box set comprising the first three thrillers in the Joe Johnson war crimes investigation series: The Last Nazi, The Old Bridge, and Bandit Country. THE LAST NAZI: The buried contents of a Nazi train. An aging SS murderer. And the wartime secrets of a US presidential hopeful’s family, hidden for seven decades. When war crimes investigator and ex-CIA officer Joe Johnson learns of a link between the contents of a Nazi train, hidden by Hitler's Third Reich, and financing for a US presidential hopeful’s 2012 campaign, he’s intrigued. But the investigation becomes bigger and more deeply personal than Johnson expects when it leads him towards an SS killer who escaped his net years earlier, and propels him into a deadly conflict. Soon there are high level intelligence and criminal networks combining against Johnson across three continents. He finds himself inextricably caught up in a terrifying quest to win justice, to avenge his mother’s tortured past and revive his flagging career. THE OLD BRIDGE:The explosive fallout from a top CIA man’s corruption and a U.S. political leader’s racism. The ruins of a 450-year-old bridge. And a family destroyed by civil war. War crimes investigator Joe Johnson is drawn into a search for a dossier of secret documents that disappeared twenty years ago from the president’s office in Sarajevo—but which have damaging links to the White House. Johnson finds himself hunting a Bosnian army officer who vanished, along with the dossier, after a series of horrific killings. The search takes him from Dubrovnik to New York City and London. Soon, ex-CIA man Johnson and his ex-MI6 colleague Jayne Robinson find themselves literally walking a minefield as they fend off powerful intelligence leaders with vested interests. The Old Bridge is a taut thriller, set in some of Europe’s most beautiful locations, and which explores the dark consequences of sectarian hatred and arms dealing on both sides of the Atlantic. BANDIT COUNTRY: A trail of high-profile sniper victims across Northern Ireland. Rising tension over the US president’s imminent visit. And the on-going bloody conflict driven by republican terrorists. Ex-CIA war crimes investigator Joe Johnson quickly realizes there’s much more to it after he’s called to Belfast by a man who claims to be worried about the impact on his business of a long series of terrorist bombs and shootings. The sniper’s body count rises, but with his motive remaining a mystery, fears mount as the president and UK prime minister’s visit for a G8 world summit draws nearer. Eventually, Johnson and his ex-MI6 colleague Jayne Robinson come to believe that the key lies in files, documents and secrets from nearly thirty years ago that certain high-flying public figures would rather remained unread. Bandit Country dives into the murky depths of historic conflicts between British security forces and the IRA, as well as the illegal US-based fundraising and weapons smuggling operations that armed the terrorists. Meet Joe Johnson today and read how he puts himself in the firing line in his fight for justice against the very worst type of criminals.
Andrew is a former journalist who has always had a love of writing and a passion for reading good thrillers. Now he has finally put the two interests together.
His first book in the Joe Johnson thriller series, The Last Nazi, was published in August 2017, and the second, The Old Bridge, in January 2018. The third, Bandit Country, followed in February 2018. In January 2019 the fourth, Stalin's Final Sting, was published along with a prequel to the series, entitled The Afghan. Book #5 in the series, The Nazi's Son, appeared in November 2019, followed by book 6, The Black Sea, published in May 2020.
The themes behind these thrillers also pull together some of Andrew’s other interests, particularly history, world news, and travel. They explore the ways in which events and human behaviors deep into the past continue to impact on modern society, politics and business.
All of Andrew's books draw strongly on these themes. They feature Joe Johnson, an ex-CIA officer and former U.S. Nazi hunter with the Office of Special Investigations, part of the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. Johnson has a passion for justice and a drive to investigate unsolved war crimes in different parts of the world.
Andrew studied history at Loughborough University and worked for many years as a business and financial journalist before becoming a corporate and financial communications adviser with several large energy companies.
He originally came from Grantham, Lincolnshire, and lives with his family in St. Albans in Hertfordshire, U.K.
He has created an interesting character in Joe Johnson, a dreamed of ethics and morality who know how to handle a gun and every tech tool available. WW II is still my favorite fictional books in how some hero beats the inhuman Nazis. All three books are well written and provide great details of the surrounding area, cultures, and hatreds. I’m pretty sure that I will read the other Joe Johnson books.
There was so much to really like in this series - the close working relationship of Joe Johnson and his sidekick Jayne, how they played off each other, and knew how to help each other. I highly recommend this series of books. Colorado Jim’s wife Glenna
Interesting take on 3 different periods of war crimes
Shows how difficult to control terrorism and the response of those targeted. Raises the question as to whether to grant amenities as in South Africa or whether to keep pursuing perpetrators and risk prolonging the hatred.
The Joe Johnson books are one of the best spy/crime investigation series I have read. The authors research is second to none . The end result of that research is that we get a cracking story. Having this set , things can’t get much better.
Great entertainment. A bit of history along with fiction
I really appreciated Joe Johnson pursuit of justice in all 3 stories. Each storyline is quite unique and intriguing, I love the international settings that really gave me a feel for the country of origin.
Really enjoyed these books. Kind of book that once you are into it you just can’t put down. Likeable characters. Will be working my way through the rest of the aeries now having completed the first three
I read the first one and thought hey this is pretty good. By the time I was finished book 3 I knew I wasn’t going back for more. Joes mistakes are so stupid it’s a wonder he survived this far. Not counting the errors made by the author. This is no David Baldacci that’s for sure.
Out of breath. I stayed up really late to finish Bandit Country. Andrew Turin is a great writer and he includes other reading material at the end of his books if the reader wants more info.
