A daring choice between career and love that will seal her fate forever…
Emily Dunn is the star pianist in her musical family. She is surprised when Mark Linfield, the handsome and powerful Duke of Edgerton, and his Uncle Silas invite her and her sisters to supper together.
Both Mark and his uncle are smitten with the elegant, statuesque Emily, and the Duke, a patron of the arts, suggests he would like to help launch her career as a solo pianist throughout Europe.
Silas wants to help Emily too, but only if she will agree to accept his advances toward her. And not only must she contend with Silas, but there are forces within her own family that want to prevent her from achieving her dream.
Despite these difficulties Mark and Emily, are becoming intensely attracted to each other. But Emily has a beau, and Mark's family wants him to marry a woman of his social class.
Neither one is certain how to deal with these challenges by themselves. But might they succeed together, or will they be overpowered by the forces working against them?
*A Dashing Duke for Emily is a historical Regency romance of 90,000 words (around 450 pages). No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a sweet happily ever after.
Hanna Hamilton has been fascinated with the Regency era ever since she was a young teen, first discovering historical romance novels by famous authors such as Jane Austen and Lisa Kleypas. She believes that love was just so much more magical back then, more like a fairy tale. She always daydreamed about finding love herself that way, but since that is impossible in the twenty-first century, she decided to write about it instead!
Born in Texas, Hanna Hamilton obtained a degree in Creative Writing and has worked as a literature teacher before becoming a novelist. When she isn’t writing, Hanna likes to explore the countryside with her husband and two children, gaining inspiration from the natural world around her.
So, come on a journey into love, confusion, and redemption all within the Regency era. Hanna hopes that you will enjoy immersing yourself into her novels and that you too will find a love for old-fashioned romance, just as she has.
loved this book Hanna Hamilton has written another wonderful story with some very fascinating characters. I really enjoyed this wonderful story the writing was well done and the characters were well developed. This was a book with some passion some drama and love with some ups and downs and a few twist along the way. Emily Dunn loves playing the piano and being able to preform with her sisters, Emily's mentor suggests she become a soloist but Emily wants to wait not sure she wants to move forward with out her sisters. Mark Linfield is the Duke of Edgerton is now the head of the family, when he see and hears Emily play he feels a pull towards her, but she has a beau. He feels he can help her with her career while they decide to work together you can feel the chemistry coming off the pages. Just another great story by this wonderful author I highly recommend this great book if you love great love stories this is the book for you. I voluntary reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
>Book Review – A Dashing Duke for Emily >I am an independent reviewer. This book is a standalone regency romance with an HEA. Emily and her 2 sisters are musicians, but only Emily has any real talent. She attracts the attention of a Mark, a Duke and patron of the arts, along with his Uncle Silas. There are a few sources of conflict in the story. Once source of conflict is Emily’s father and his dream to have all 3 of his girls perform. Emily’s sisters dream of marriage, not performing, though. The second source of conflict is Mark’s almost fiancée, Sophie. She acts jealous of Emily throughout the entire book, yet at the end she is fine with letting Mark go. Sophie’s actions did not match the direction her story line went, at all. >Uncle Silas is appropriately creepy, as he solicits Sophie, yet no real threat lasts for long. This story was tedious, instead of romantic. The romance is G rated, which is okay as long as there is a bit of smolder. There wasn’t any smolder in this story. Emily doesn’t even act attracted to Mark and totally accepts his almost engagement to Sophie. There needs to be more flirting and sexual tension. >This book is appropriate for a young adult (18+) audience. I am giving this book 3 stars. The story was interesting, but the plot dragged and the romance was almost non-existent.
Well written book with great storyline, subplots and plot. A sweet book that has great romance. The story is true to it's time period and the language is also. I like when an author has made research about the time period they want to write the story in. I like the references to the historical events. Sometimes it was a very heavy read but absolutely worth the time. It has a slow start to it but catches up.
The story just caught me and I felt I was there in the story. The characters are so real and likeable. The female characters is not like others. She steps out of the norm and that makes her interesting. Both Emily and Mark has yet to meet their HEA and fate wants them to fight to get it. They have to survive ups and downs. But luckily Emily is a strong woman.
There is drama, family issues, passion, emotions and some twists. Instant attraction. I like the supporting characters. They are both very strong and also emotional. I like the story has prologue as well as epilogue. It gives the story more depth.
Nice chemistry and passion. I like the main characters and how they develop. The story flows nicely and it is very captivating from first to last chapter. The author has delivered a story that is worth the read!

ARC Received from Bookfunnel🌀 Opinions Expressed here are my own!
There is a mistaken reference to Alice In Wonderland ( Published 1865) in this book, which takes place in the Regency Era, some 40 years earlier.
I was gifted an ARC of this book. I really enjoy the writing of Hanna Hamilton so I was pleased to read it. Ms. Hamilton did not disappoint, creating a world of memorable characters and exquisite detail.
Every time I read historical romance, I'm reminded of the many ways in which women were not treated as equals in the past. I was particularly struck by the fact that a man's word would be taken over a woman's in any disagreement. Men could lie with impunity.
Emily is a mature and disciplined woman who knows what she wants and will not allow anything or anyone to interfere with her goals. Mark is a principled and compassionate Duke who wishes to help her succeed as a musician. Naturally, they fall in love. This is a clean romance with nothing more than kissing.
Though I truly did enjoy the book, I was a bit put off by the ending, which seemed a bit too much like “and they all lived happily ever after.” I couldn't help but feel that there should have been some other way to conclude the story. Despite this issue, I would still recommend this book because I think the characters are memorable and the descriptions of life in the time period are fascinating.
Legitimate advances or untoward advances in her career
Emily Dunn is a young lady and along with her two sisters, make up the Dunn Duo musical group. They are approached by Mark Linfield the Duke of Edgerton and his Uncle Silas with a proposal to help advance Emily's career as a concert pianist but hit a snag when they are told that their father didn't want them split up. Silas hits on the plan to replace Emily with another pianist and propositions her with untoward advances in order for her to receive his help with her dreams of performing in Europe. Mark is legitimately interested in advancing her career without exacting any claims on her virtue and is angry with Silas when he discovers that he has been making unwanted attention to Emily. Silas is thrown out of the house when he is discovered in Emily's bedroom and he attempts to get revenge by destroying her career before it can be launched by claiming that she made advances to him in order to receive his help with her career.
Back in the time that this novel takes place women were supposed to be wives and have children and not much else. Emily Dunn happened to have a father that believed his three daughters should form a musical trio--which they did. Only Emily was really any good and truly wanted a solo practice and to become famous. But a trio they were to remain according to her father and none would gainsay him.
Then one fateful evening when the trio was playing Mark Linfield took an interest in her and wanted to help her further her career. So did his uncle. The uncle did not really have Emily's best interests at heart as you will find when you read this novel.
It took a lot of planning and plotting to get her father to allow her to go solo---meanwhile she became fast friends with Mark's sister and made the acquaintance of all others in his ducal household.
Will they ultimately get Emily started on a European tour? Will Emily and Mark finally realize that they were made for each other?
This is a true Regency Romance novel happy ending and all and I loved it!!
Emily Dunn and Mark Linfield, Duke of Edgerton, are brought together through a common interest in music. Emily is a brilliantly talented pianist. Mark is a patron of the arts, particularly of music and wants to help Emily with her career. As they work toward their goal, they fall in love. Can they have it all? There are some obstacles in the way of their happily ever after. A jealous uncle makes an attempt to sabotage their efforts and a reluctant father wants to keep Emily in the family trio. Is it possible to overcome these circumstances?
A Dashing Duke for Emily is a sweet romance with an interesting storyline and engaging characters. One of my favorite parts is where Emily plays for Mark’s father as he dies, such a sweet and poignant scene. If you are a fan of sweet historical romance, you will enjoy this one.
I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it.
The first half of the book was a little slow and repetitious. However, things eventually became more interesting. Emily is not only a very talented musician she works very hard at her music. Her sisters are less talented and also less interested in their music and their father's ambitions for them. Their father has great hopes for the trio as the musical ambitions of his youth came to nothing - so he is living his dream vicariously through his daughters. The Duke is interested in Emily"s musical talent, wishing to ensure that she has a solo career performing in Europe - he also is interested in Emily. However, his uncle, Silas, also has designs on Emily and although she makes it clear that she is uninterested he is persistent. The book was a fun, light read (a sweet and clean romance). For a British audience the author is a little shaky with historical accuracy - but really not to much of a problem.
An interesting take on a Duke taking a wife who is not quite what is expected by society. Emily is a talented young pianist who is performing in a male dominated world and she is being held back by her father who is concerned with all of his daughters not just Emily. The Duke attends a performance of Emily and her sisters and decides to help Emily become a solo performer. Now the fun begins. The story flows through Emily's family interests with an interest cast of characters, Emily's desire to perform as a solo artist and getting involved the Duke and his family with another cast of characters that make life interesting. There are several twists and turns which make the story more interesting. Also there is an Epilogue and an extended Epilogue which lets the reader know which direction the romance has happily taken. All's well that ends well is a good description of the tale of Emily and her family and the Duke and his family ( a thoroughly enjoyable cast of characters).
Customer Review 4.0 out of 5 starsEmily Charms Her Duke. Bysewsummoreon 25 February 2018 Format: Kindle Edition I received a free ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. Emily is a budding concert pianist who career is about to take off, thanks to the patronage of Mark, Duke of Edgerton. The Duke and his family have always had an interest in the musical arts and he wished to use his influence to promote new artists. He found her to be a delightful and charming young woman and as their relationship progressed he became more attracted to her. Emily while attracted to Mark kept her mind firmly on her career until he asked her to marry him. This was a entertaining story with well written dialogue and characters who were honest and believable. The storyline was well thought out and the happy ending all a reader could desire.
A sweet Regency romance, A Dashing Duke for Emily takes the reader on a gentle meander as Emily Dunn embarks on her journey to fame engineered by the Duke of Edgerton. Not all is plain sailing as Mr Dunn has aspirations for all three of his daughters and he feels strongly about promoting one over the other. However, it has become abundantly clear to all the Emily shines above the rest and holding her back is depriving the world of her talent. The romance between Mark and Emily is sweet with a few surprises along the way. This is not a book to sit down and read over a weekend, as it is fairly long but nevertheless uncomplicated and easy to read. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Another good, clean Regency romance from Hanna Hamilton. There are a lot of wonderful characters in this story—our hero, Mark Linfield, Duke of Edgerton, and heroine Emily Dunn, an outstanding pianist; Emily’s sisters Ruth and Teresa; Mark’s grandmother and sister; and many, many more. Emily and her sisters must deal with a lot of ups and downs as they try to make changes in their lives. I enjoyed both the story and the characters as they found true love, especially when that love became more important than social status. I was also glad to see Mark’s uncle change and receive forgiveness for the nasty things he had done. I would recommend this book to everyone. I received an advance review copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Couldn't really get myself to finish it... Can't even say why, really. I didn't have anything against the characters. Sure, the writing style wasn't awesome but it wasn't that bad either. The layout irritated me quite a bit (Kindle file). But those aren't really reasons not to finish a book, right? Or maybe they are... It just wasn't engaging enough. A little repetitive maybe, especially in the beginning, and the female heroine got a bit on my nerves... Also, the story kinda dragged on and on for that reason and I didn't really read about any feelings of attraction between the MCs. Sure, they both thought the other one was quite handsome and beautiful but that was it basically.
Mark Linfield, Duke of Edgerton, is young, handsome and very nice. His father is ill. Miss Emily Dunn is a pianist of great skill. She plays with the Dunn Trio. Ruth plays the cello and Teresa plays the oboe. They are playing a concert and the Duke sees them. He wants to help Emily in her career, but she is part of a trio. This gets a little twisted, But it keeps your interest and you really have difficulty putting the book down. The characters are full bodied and vivid. I enjoyed the story it was fun to see three women get a career and make a go at it. I received this ARC free and voluntarily reviewed it.
This is a captivating story of one family's foray into forward thinking. Mark is not the most exciting man ever, he's sort of like an absent minded professor. He wants to do stuff, but then let's others take over, and doesn't try to get control. He's a nice enough guy, just boring. Emily is loyal first and foremost, and she's talented, sweet, caring and determined. It's an interesting story if how Emily overcomes being a woman. There is love lost and found, and some extremely likable characters. I enjoyed reading it very much. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
A lovely and lengthy historical romance where the heroine is a woman hoping to embark on a journey that is not really heard of in that time. She's about to embark on a tour of Europe and England as a solo pianist. The Duke of Edgerton would be her sponsor. The story started out a bit slow, but I eventually did connect with the characters. There was lots of stress in Emily's life and she handled it beautifully, she really was the glue that held both families together. It's always about duty and honour, but in the end, it's really about love.
I received this advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is another well written historical romance from the author. You have a young woman that is very talented and two men that take notice of more than her musical abilities. She has some tough choices to make.
It is a good storyline and I liked the characters. Emily wants to do what is right by her family. The opportunity to get the support of a Duke would help her but it comes with terms she can't agree too. She and Mark, the Duke's nephew. find themselves growing closer. I liked that the relationship was really built slowly and not rushed.
I don't claim to be an expert, but there were many unlikely expressions in the book like "cross your heart", "pinky swear", etc. along with tradition s that didn't exist yet. The book was fairly boring. I almost gave up on it. The characters weren't well developed since there was more dialog than thoughts, so the romance seemed to be very unexpected. The heroine was said to be sweet, but she seemed very proud and conniving instead and didn't often volunteer to help her relations (once or twice). All the men seemed to love her for her beauty and talent only. Minor grammar errors. I have liked other books by this author.
"A Dashing Duke for Emily" by Hanna Hamilton A very interesting historical regency romance plot. Will the title win out? Or, is the title a misleading clue. This is a clean romance story with many players and lots of love. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and honestly believe you will enjoy this read also. Everyone does achieve their HEA (happily ever after), as all good romance stories should. I was gifted a copy of this story and I am so thankful for this fun and suspenseful read. If you are in a book club, this story just might make for a lively group discussion. Happy Reading !
This story revolves around a talented and beautiful piano player and the Duke who wants to sponsor her career. She is dazzling and enchants his grandmother and sister, she also attracts attention from an unwelcome suitor. As their attraction strengthens, the Duke is pulled between duty and love. Very interesting characters and storyline. I received a complimentary copy and I am giving a review voluntarily.
Emily has her heart set on being a musician but her father wants the sisters to perform as a trio. She knows they are holding her back but feels loyal to them. When a Duke takes an interest in her career, things start to change. His sister Alice helps and befriends Emily but Mark is the drive to set her tour in motion. Can love concur over other ambitions or will music take a back seat? Family from both sides may get in the way.
I had read a few of the teaser chapters before the book in its entirety came out and was very excited about the reading the rest of Mark and Emily's story! I loved it! I always have such difficulty coming to the end of a good story because I want to go beyond the wedding, I want to see how happy they are. If you are anything like me, I recommend clicking on the link and reading the short continuation story as well.
Easy to read & fun to imagine beginning a career in music as a woman at this time in history. I enjoyed the different characters & how Emily is forgiving of the uncle who tries to besmirch her character & even comes to her room one night with evil intentions. She has every right to treat him badly, but her good example of forgiveness & grace toward him acts as a catalyst to make him turn his life around.
a wonderful sweet story with believable characters. Emily is a pianist. Mark and Emily are attracted to each other but have to contend with obstacles in their paths. Wonderful flowing story filled with history and romance. 35 chapters, an epilogue and an extended epilogue, really makes this a great read!
An interesting, well written story with engaging characters; some will steal your heart, some you'll like and some you won't. With a few characters who try to get in Mark and Emily's way to their HEA and uncertainty over what will happen next at times, makes for this to be a really good read.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an ARC.
I received a free book and voluntarily chose to review it. I had a little trouble trying to keep which man went with a particular female (as in married, engaged, free). You might not have any problems because I am a Senior and my memory is not the sharpest. I did enjoy the book and found three female musicians made an interesting story line. I did enjoy the the book.
Three suitors, but only one with the right intentions. Hamilton does it again with an interesting plot and very detailed and well-developed characters! This was another late night page tuner.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
A well written story with strong females and great supporting characters. Emily a pianist in a trio with her sister want to be a solo pianist and Mark the Duke of Edgerton who after hearing her play want to help her achieve her dream. like the way the relationship developed between the Main characters and the twist and turns along the way. Received an ARC and am voluntarily giving my opinion.
